    Long time enduro/woods racer here. Don't look too long at objects in your line. It's kinda a weird phenomenon, but the longer you look at the object, the more you will be drawn to it. Take a quick glance at it and adjust accordingly. Stare at it too long and you WILL hit it.

      Ditto. Had a 70s Yamaha 100 Enduro when I was around 10-11. Dad bought it for me one weekend morning when we were out garage-sale'ing. Am 45 now and dad is gone. This video kicked up so many great memories. Love the narration.

      Same here: I learned to ride on my Uncle Jim's Trail 90 and then save up to get my own Honda SL125 when I was 12 (I’m 62 now). What great memories the video brings back.

    Words of advice for when you do the TAT, do not set a goal for the day. Just wait and find a place when you get tired. If you set a fixed agenda, you will be rushing through and will miss the ride. When I plan a trip, I pick the direction I’m going to go and see how far I make it before needing to head back home. If it’s an out and back I start heading back a day earlier than half way! For example on a 30 day trip I would turn around on day 14.

    Thank you so very much for putting this TH-cam post together. Love the ride, choice of motorbike and music. I really needed that serene feeling you added with the music. I also enjoyed the Ed March reference because after all he's been a big part of why this style of riding has become so popular. No BMW's in my future, I will be looking into getting one of those sweet Honda 125's.
    You guys are legends for sharing this as they say down under...thanks again !!!

    I sure wish they’d put the low range transmission back on these.
    That aside, riding a small bike into the rough sure seems more fun than a big heavy one!

      You need to change out your sprocket sizes. “”Ride with Warro” videos…. Had same issue/changed out sprockets…. Now has the power to get through all terrain! And he shows and talks about it in his video. You need to look at all videos of his tan color 150 and you will be glad you watched them.
      He is a good fella AND smart.

    @23:55 that's called target fixation, and it's no joke. You need to learn to identify a threat, and then fixate on the safe way around it. If you stare at the threat, 9 times out of 10 you'll hit it.

    Excellent video. Found this from watching Itchy boots. I have no idea what this smokey mountians 500 is about. You should have all your battery equipment being charged off of the bike so it never goes dead. I started on this on first. Now I will have to watch number one. I would love to do this at my old age. I miss this type of riding. thanks.😁🤪

    I have watched Long Way Round, Down, Up, Over and what ever else they put out and have to say I enjoyed your video more. You are riding bikes that almost anyone can afford and are having far more fun with much less drama. The bad part is now I want to follow in your tracks and give this run a try. The only problem is I don't have a bike at the moment but that is fixable.

    I just watched your first video in this series earlier tonight, and now I'm watching this one. I've made up my mind. I'm buying a CT125 and I'm going to ride the Smoky Mountain 500. I live all the way in California, so it'll be a hell of a ride just to get out there, but this is absolutely something that I need to do at some point in my life.

    • @SomeGuyRides
      @SomeGuyRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SomeGuyRides That's not a bad idea. I'll need to get some practice riding dirt trails before I go, but maybe I could attempt it next summer. I'm really hoping someone has a good manual clutch conversion kit for the CT125 before then though, I'd like to have a little more control than the semi auto transmission offers.

    To get over fallen trees, approach standing up, push down on the forks and accelerate on the rebound, and the bike will jump over it, only weighs 89kg.

    Thank you very much for that fun ride. The CT125 is a great bike. I think you guys pushed the upper limits of those bikes on those rocky off road sections. I know they are well built bikes but would not want to see you crack a frame tube or pop a fork seal or something like that. Especially out in the middle of nowhere. I would have taken the same basic ride but stuck to the county blacktop. Very well done. Thanks again.

I moved down here six years ago from Northwest Indiana so most of the ground you’re covering i have road I don’t have GPS or a phone signal and ride alone most of the time so I’ve got lost on a lot of these mountain roads but now I’m getting pretty familiar with them, I’ll check out the video later thanks for posting👍🏻

I'm thinking very seriously about doing the Smokey Mountain 500, maybe in a month, but before the cool rainy fall weather settles in. I'm in central Kentucky, so I have a day of back roads on the way down and again on the way back, so it's a five day trip for me. It lools ideal for an old man adventure on my G310GS.

    Hey, really enjoying your videos. I've been intrigued by the 125 and TAT for abount a month now. I'm courios as to why you say the bike is not so good on the pavement. Is it lack of power. Would it be perfect as a 145, which I've seen another youtuber do to their bike?

      @SomeGuyRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not that it isn't good, it's just fine on the pavement. The problem is when you're on a 55mph or above road. It's just slow as hell... The only time the lack of power got us was in the passes (see the TAT videos...)

    gear is all good?? what about the bike?? lol just kidding. those look like fun.good luck on your adventure. better to take it slow and enjoy it at a comfortable pace, then to rush it the whole way and miss the sights along the way.

    So the SM500 Telico Plains to Suches takes you past Ai, Flat Branch (me) and around Ellijay before spitting you East to Dial and Suches? That's interesting.... i should get a map. I know the TAT in my area but never considered the SM500.
    Paved route, down Tn68 to Copperhill/McCayesville to Ga60 to Suches is about 120 miles and quite scenic. The wild ride sounds fun though.

      No you're not. I grew up in a family of 4 and all 4 of us used to commute on my dad's 110cc yamaha Jupiter Z before he was able to buy his own car. I've seen up to 7 people riding these things.

    Look where you want to go not at what you want to avoid. The bike tends to go where you are looking. May explain why you are hitting the only rock sticking up in the road.

    Did you customize your sprockets and a few engine parts? Also totally replace tires that are best for off road but good with paved?

      Check out my friend. Best to view “”all”” videos as he rides 125 then makes upgrades. At the end, he had it awesome. Also new engine, he and I always put rare earth magnets on oil plug. Change every 500 miles. It takes out metal filings from engine manufacturing. Retired he bought other bikes, sold 125 and missed it so much… he bought a 2nd 125. He kept all upgrade parts from other bike. He just has to put upgrades to his new 125.
      Here is main video giving all upgrades: th-cam.com/video/gV3WJSXv_pc/w-d-xo.html.
      Still pick out the tan 125 all videos to learn what each upgrade adds performance after test riding in different terrains. Warro is awesome!
      Oh there is an Aussie - friend of Warros to. I think he swapped out larger piston and head on his…. I will look for his name/videos.
      It’s fun to see what people do differently to their 125.

      There is a South Korean who totally changes new bike to a SUPER CUSTOM. THAT CUSTOM IS SO BEAUTIFUL! Cannot identify what original bike was!
      You need to see that voided if you like 150s. I’ll get it. If not…. Remind me here. Alton

      You can get them as gpx files on ADV Rider - just go there and search Smokey Mountain 500. The link is probably in the description too. Google is probably not the best app for this sort of ride - look into Gaia - I think there's a free version... Thx for checking the vids out!
