I keep making up this scenario and asking people who defend David if it’s sexual assault. It’s that a woman works at a job and gets sexually assaulted twice by her boss but she doesn’t report it or say anything because she really needs the job for money and the benefits and opportunities she gets while working there. One day she really needs money to pay rent or she’ll be homeless so she tries to have sex with the boss to get a raise. Does that mean she wasn’t sexually assaulted the first and second time?? Because this story is basically what happened to Seth but for some reason probably because he’s a male it’s not taken serious

What Hila is saying is absolutely right, nothing that he did afterwards negates the fact that a crime took place the first time. The most common thing for assault victims to do is act natural after their experience, even if they don't feel okay, it's sometimes easier to pretend that nothing happened until you have the time to process something. For example if you're running from a man eating monster and you fall and injure yourself you won't sit and assess the damage until you're far away from the monster. People need to feel safe before they can process trauma. The fact that David and Jason didn't stop to think this might impact him, and that they in fact took advantage and tried to get him to re-visit it again demonstrates a flagrant disrespect towards Seth and emotional immaturity. All of this could have been negated with consent, and empathy. Kissing is sexual contact. Any unwanted sexual content without concent IS assault. It's not for them to decide how he should react to this.

I like what you said about needing to feel safe before you can process trauma. It's so true. I kept seeing a guy after he raped me. I kept trying to convince myself that it wasn't rape and that he didn't mean to. Of course I look back from a logical place and it hurts me that I didn't protect myself better. But when trauma happens it is purely emotional. You aren't thinking straight. And who wants to admit to even themselves that they have been raped? No one. It didnt even hit me til a few months after and then it hit hard.
@@TB0002 with all due respect, as a victim of rape myself the simplified answer to a very complex question is sometimes, yes. Sometimes reliving the experience but having control over it can feel empowering. Sometimes choosing to be with the same person but on your terms can feel like taking back some of that power. This is a very complicated issue, far more so than it is being represented, there are a whole host of emotions he could be feeling, the fact of the matter is that Jason and David lured him into an overtly sexual act against his will. That is assault. It doesn't matter how he behaved afterwards, it doesn't take away the fact that he experienced an assault. It's not your job to judge people on how they process trauma.
When the MeToo movement first started, the actor Terry Crews spoke up about how he was SA in the industry. He was basically blacklisted from acting as well as not being taken seriously about his allegations against the people who abused him. It's shameful that in a time when there's so much information out there, like in Seth's case, yet the victim's still being blamed. He DID NOT CONSENT! Bottom line, that's ALL that matters! Hypothetically he could have possibly consented to one but that doesn't mean it's consensual always (Yes I know he did Not consent, ever!). The "bit" that Seth consented to was kissing a specific female, even if they switched the female it is still NOT consensual! It's not that difficult to understand, especially when you change the person from female to male to target the person who you know will get major backlash in their personal life and cause them major trauma....which it did!

I talked to my parents today about being sexually assaulted when i was much younger and i never told anyone out of shame. Seth coming forward with his story gave me courage to share mine. Ethan and Hila, thank you for giving the victims a voice in this. You are doing important work.

For as much as I enjoy David’s vlog, nothing would be better than for Seth to bury David in court. Seeing David stick his head in the sand by not responding publicly or privately speaks volumes to the power he thinks he has. He thinks that people will fold in the face of the behemoth that has become of his internet empire. He thinks that he can separate himself from his own actions with a mountain of corporatised content. Seth should take some of that power back and show David that the real world stills applies to him. David doesn’t magically become a selfless messiah because he called Ian from seatgeek and hooked his roadies up with a new car. Actions should have consequences. I'm pretty certain the reason David has not said anything publicly or privately is based on legal counsel. Not trying to defend him, If Seth feels he was victimized, then David should atone for that in a way that is satisfactory to Seth, but once Seth came out and classified it as those two words we can't use, it became a lot more serious than just a prank. David has a lot to lose, and is probably acting on legal counsel, until they figure out If Seth is going to pursue the matter legally. That's David's right, like it or not.

But there are precautions against that, such as warning signs and laws against smoking in the area. But what if you aren’t smoking, you are following the rules, and the gas station still explodes? Are you going to then try to find some other type of reason why it’s somehow the victims fault? My friend was sleeping in her bed. He r*ped her while she was asleep. The last thing anyone should have told her was why she didn’t push him off, why didn’t she tell her parents, why didn’t she immediately go to the police? She blamed herself, she said it was all her fault. Nothing ever, ever happened to the guy. Instead of getting mad that people are creating “buzz words” why aren’t you angry at what happened to my friend, or Seth? Why are we targeting victims for being imperfect human beings while the actual person at fault walks away fine?
The audacity to say someone consented to something without showing proof and just throwing yourself into a situation you don’t belong. The third time Seth might have just been desperate for money or maybe in his mind if he’s a part of planning it a third time maybe he can take his power back and have more control? Who knows? My dads a lawyer, grew up with judge and cop friends. I knew I’d most likely be believed and yet. When my dad asked me to my face if I wanted to do something I said no. I wanted to be done. I didn’t ever want to see his face again. I didn’t realize until therapy months later. Like classic SA blaming like STOP. We don’t speak up for a LOT of reasons and none of the reasons are anyone’s business unless we want them to.

Real friends call each other out on things they have done. I have had a group of old classmates say nothing after sexually assaulting someone I know. They then laughed about it after he was called out. This is constant issue where friends enable toxic behaviour. This isnt a joke and whether or not you didnt experience it doesnt matter. People defending David because of Scotty’s videos doesn’t understand that this isn’t just a problem about sexual assault but instead rather a power indifference. Seth knew how powerful David was and because of that power he was willing to continue to subject himself to trauma and danger after formerly being sexually assaulted. It’s like when an abuse victim stays with their Significant Other because they’re afraid to live out on their own because the SO might pay the bills, or maybe own the house. We should NEVER blame victims for staying with their abusers, because its only human behavior. This is all just so disgusting.
