Where are the artists today? Why aren't there major singers today using their music to bring attention to the atrocities going on in the world today? All today's stars care about is how much money they can make. They do not care about making a difference in the world. This man cared then, he cares now. He made a difference. He proved it can be done. WAKE UP ALL YOU SO CALLED STARS TODAY!!! Use your voice, use your music, use them to make a difference in the world beyond making TicketMaster rich.
Absolutely
Gaza 🙏🙏
You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher
And the eyes of the world
Are watching now
Watching now
Biko! Navalny!
I am so taken by Peter Gabriel's tribute to this great man. Thank you for telling the world, through this song, of Steven Biko's great bravery.
and now NAVALNY
AND NOW n
I agree completely.
Stephan Biko is a personal role model for me. Stand and fight. You have to match the Biko movie, tears for sure. What a human he wS and is. Stephan Biko was beaten to death in September 7th, 1977, police unit 619.
#BikoLivesInAllOfUs
This was filmed exactly on my 13th birthday. And I got to see him perform it live right after my 50th birthday. I never forgot. ❤️
The most underrated musician of the last 50 years.
That “word” again…say it ain’t so 😛
Nope
@ YES
He was Never underrated
Yes & rite there with him is
Joe Walsh,,,,,,
I was there.
This performance at this concert changed my life.
I still get chills.
"...the rest is up to you."
LUCKY you!!!
Single most powerful song EVER, EVER, EVER
I get straight up chills every time I listen Especially live, and especially at Giant's Stadium...
I envy you with much more feeling than that word imparts.
Sublimity makes chills.
So much for the nonsense rock n roll isn't grave as graves of the Kulturkampf.
Awesome! God bless everyone!
Hi there, I was just going through a post on a page then your profile caught my attention and you seem worth talking to so I could not pass by without saying hi and ask how you doing. Do you mind us talking and getting to know each other better, I will love to be in your circle of friends. But I don't want to send you a Friend request without your permission, hope you don't mind sending me a friend request?
Only PETER GABRIEL can do this,,,!
This song changed the apartheid in SA from a newspaper article into a gut wrenching emotional experience. Probably one of the most effective (and affective) political songs in history. Kudos to Gabriel, and what a voice.
Makes me cry every time. I’ve always followed him from Genesis through his solo music. This song has the most meaning for me.
Mad respect to Peter!! When we were a country worth a damn
And look at South Africa now…a failed state. From high living standards to a complete mess. WHY is that?
IF THIS/AND PETER HVN'T changed SOME THOUGHTS OF...WHO ELSE? JOHN LENNON.! Differently. Many others-P.G. has Forza..Blood of Eden..Now JOHN. L./J.Barry-TOP.
@@BoomBustProfits, good things take time.
Just saw him do this live last night and it’s still as powerful today as it was when I was a 22 year old Marine in 1986. ✊🏼❤️
I was there when he closed his Denver show on Monday with this song and I'd agree it was as strong a song as when it was released.
cool
Yes, it is; my stomach is churning as I listen to this song.
If one man can make an entire stadium sing in unison for change , imagine what all of us could do !
You tell it ! :) x
@@SuperAnimelover100 Thankyou Sandy Sandy 👍😎👽
I'm no Peter Gabriel.
@@davidzeto2446 Yet:)
If we stop the 1% divide and conquer
And the eyes of the world are watching now_____never a truer more powerful line was ever written
Well said!
AMEN TO THAT BROTHER. 💯❤️💯❤️💯❤️. . rest in peace Steven beko. . Gone. . But never forgotten. . 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
My god, if you ever have a song like this written about you, your life was not in vain, incredible.
Nicely said !
Wow.
I think so
It is an amazing song. When they killed Stephen Biko, it was the beginning of the end for apartheid. As Gabriel sings, 'the eyes of the world are watching now".
I was very young when I read the book I'm 60 now
One of the most powerful music videos I have ever seen on the tube.
In the words of Neil Young, "long may you run!"
Peter was hot, talent oozing from ever pore (no ear pieces, no auto tune, wrote his own songs), humble with a conscience
earpieces are just monitors that don't feed back. They make everyones job easier. Sinatra didn't write his own tunes.. wanna slam him..?? that is just stupid commentary on your part. Auto tune... no, but distortion, compression, tape speed echos and a million other production things that people whined about... it isn't the tech, it is who is using it for what. Something Peter got and you don't.
Learn to like something, without slamming something or someone else's art. It is a sad persons cliche.
@morbidmanmusic
In the spirit of community which this song aspires to.......unnecessarily snarky.
The really great MEN monsieur Peter Gabriel respect éternel 🙏🙏🙏🙏
For those of you who are only familiar with Peter Gabriel's album SO, you need to look at the rest of his work. Peter Gabriel is so amazing on so many of his albums.
Not the biggest fan of “melt” but this songs ace
That's right. That's what I say always to some people.
I love songs like humdrum and moribund the Bergermeister by Peter, a lot of his strangest songs I like best. Same goes for the Genesis stuff he did like Harold the barrel, Can-utility and the coastliners, the lamia. ❤fantastic.
Absolutely! Albums 'Peter Gabriel' 1,3 & 4 are his best work, imo.
A TRUE GENIUS IN SO MANY WAYS. AN ICON OF LOVE, PEACE, AND JUSTICE. TALK ABOUT THINKING OUT OF THE BOX 🌠🦋🧚🏿♀️⭐️🏞💗☮️🎶❣️🌟💯😊💫
the tears come every time
Every single time!
I was at this show, about 50 yards from the stage. An amazing day.
I felt like I was there.
I wish i had the chance to see this live
Must have been epic! Now racism in America is worse than South Africa.
I was there as well. This video does a great job evoking the emotion of the song but experiencing it live with those drums, bag pipes and Peter’s mournful cries was very stirring.
My memory was that this occurred in daylight but maybe it started as the sun went down (which would have only added to the experience). One hell of a hot and long day though.
I felt like I was there as well it gave me chills , RIP Biko.
Remember what it was like, knowing we were on the wrong side of the scoreboard but would end up on the right side of history? Thank you Mr Gabriel and the millions of others who risked something in order to help.
1000% agreed!!
A écouter et encore, encore.
Merci à lui pour sa lutte contre l'apartheid et les droits des hommes.
The keyboard and pounding of the drum. This wasn’t a performance; it was a call to action.
Peter Gabriel is an amazing human being! 🩷🤘✌️
CHILLS, FEELS, TEARS Thank you Peter Gabriel!
Its funny....i love the way Peter thinks, and the older i get, the love just grows
I marched about Biko in my teens, helped by this. Never ever think that you can't face up fascism and apartheid. We helped beeak the Broederbond. He's singing this in support of Palestine. X
This touches my heart and soul. Biko a man of courage fighting for the rights of his people!!! Awesome Peter. This song will live on forever 💔
La voglio dedicare a mio padre morto suicida proprio nel 1986. Come dice Peter vorrei dirgli:" beacuse father?". Grazie Peter.
Notable Canción!!!!
Obra Maestra!!!!eterna,inmortal!!!!
Nunca pasa de Moda!!!!
Maravillosa!!!!
Inspiración para todo el Mundo.
Stephen Biko. R.I.P. God bless your soul.
One of my fave tracks of his. So powerful so emotional with a message that needs heard
Such a moving, heartfelt performance! I love this song, and Peter's voice is just stupendous. RIP Biko.
Ich liebe diesen song.

The thumbnail, those eyes, good grief ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I’ve been lucky to see both Peter Gabriel with Genesisa and to see him solo about a dozen times this song is just wonderful
I remenver this Clip as a little Girl. Goosepumps all over my skin 🥺❤️
Peter Gabriel was the co-founder of the Genesis band in 1967 in Surrey. He realised six albums with the original Genesis. Then Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975 for some important reasons. In 1977, he recorded his first solo album in Canada with some American musicians. Then, he realised three experimental albums until his best album "So" with songs for all the people and also for his ex-fans of psychedelic music. Now, we are all looking forward to his new album, because Peter Gabriel is seriously a kind of musical genius.
Thanks for sharing this. He's one of a kind and very nice others see
It also seems that he uses the creative team of the Lepage brothers who are Quebecqois. Robert Lepage is an award winner in many creative aspects of multi arts. Theater, film music videos etc. The list goes on you should look him up. He directed something at the Stratford Festival not too many years ago. Can't remember which on tho as I see so many there.
A man of heart & conscience.
REASON: he was 24 was married and his newborn daughter had a heart condition ! he didn't want to tour and be part of this massive rock machine . See Solsbury Hill - his explanation for why he left
Humdrum on the first album is also about his daughter
Peter Gabriel is a musical genius.
He was the Brains of Genesis
I just left that same comment on another performance here! Who can argue with us?
I love that Keyboard bagpipe sound.amazing song.
Bonn Scott actually played a bagpipe.
The bagpipe gives my soul chills. I listen and sing along to this song and it NEVER grows old. It's a lesson to all and will live on forever.
This broadcast was my introduction to the both the song and life of Steven Biko and I was mesmerized.
Masterpiece!

One of Peter Gabriel's best songs ❤
As a composer, artist and person, Peter Gabriel has not only had a significant influence on the development of popular music - he has redefined the very concept. Peter Gabriel does more than just intertwine music, voice and images - his music is at once a megaphone for the global society and its most unflinching critic. 0:03 [Polar Music Prize]
The song “Biko,” a tribute to the murdered South African human rights activist Stephen Biko, marked a turning point in Gabriel’s career. For the first time, he directly addressed political and social issues - in this instance, the struggle against the apartheid system of racial segregation in South Africa. Gabriel had long admired the work of African and Middle Eastern musicians, and his own music increasingly reflected their influence. 1:11 [Academy Of Achievement]
"Racism is such a terrible scourge of our world. We see it here in the U.K. now with European football, with these horrible racist remarks, about some of the football players." 5:53
Peter Gabriel in a recent interview.
Ich liebe dieses Lied und den Sänger ...
This is his best song ever. Period. End of story. 30+ years later and it still brings a tear to my eye.
ME TOO !
Everytime !
C'est super émouvant de chanter "Biko" j'ai toujours mon vieux disque en 33 tours de Peter Gabriel c'est désormais ma collection privée et le seul disque que je l'ai depuis sa sortie officielle ! Bravo Peter. Amitiés

What an Amazing Artist & song writer!!!!
An eternal song, great lyrics, incredible artist and overwhelming sound.
Where are all the artists today, standing against apartheid in Israel/Palestine?
We all know.
What has it done previous,,
🤷
And Russia and Ukraine
SAY HIS NAME! BIKO FOREVER!
I will !
This brought tears to my eyes.
Me too, back then and every time I have listened to it since
Unbelievably moving to the core of my soul
Everyyime for me
Watch this song on Playing for Change and see Yo-Yo Ma become both passionately angry over Biko's demise and then when the word Biko comes he soars. And watch the rooftop black drum corps with their Elegant way providing the drum beat- pretty magical
They Came In Their Masses And Listened To The Recognition Of Steven Biko With His Story Being Delivered To Them Through Music And The Arts.... Yearning For The Time Of Change.
Beautiful eternal song Peter Gabriel
An all time classic song. Oh Biko oh Biko. September 77. Because Biko.
I cried like whipped the first time in Africa with the giant african chorus. And. Peace and love -it stll gets me after all these years
Le petit côté celtique ❤
Happy Birthday Peter ! Longue Vie à toi...
He's got beautiful eyes 👀
He has always did, from a 19 year old in Genesis until 2023. He still has. Swoooooon
He’s got Beautiful Everything 🥵!
Stunning vocal performance on very emotional song
Peter Gabriel is wonderful! His music carries strong messages tat you cannot resist. God bless this man!
I saw the movie about Steve Biko, "Cry Freedom". The white South Africans I knew were very defensive about this movie. They told me I "didn't know what it was like to live in S.A." Thanks to modern media, and Peter Gabriel, and the news channels, I know enough.
White people can never be African.
White South Africans used to think they were a superior breed of people who could make lesser mortals walk on the opposite side of the street to them and have white only bars and restaurants. I’m not sure if it’s improved much recently but it used to be an awful place to live for people of colour.
Timeless truth.
Purely beautiful.
A song of joy.
A song of sorrow.
Jesus was a Man of Sorrows.
That doesn't preach so well in our present dying World.
Stephen Biko.
A true hero.
Tears.

I always shead tears

Brilliant and inspiring music artist 😊❤️☀️🌈Awesome human
Stop with that gay shit
I was lucky enough to be in attendance and not very for from the stage.
Goosebumps, goosebumps…. all those fists together! Powerful, I’m touched by this song over and over again when he performs this live on every other concert. ❤
Une partie de mon adolescence, 30 ans après je suis toujours fan ❤
After watching and hearing this performance, the song never left my head...I hum it all the time..
I simply think that Peter Gabriel is one of the most talented, good looking, courageous, and all about awesome individuals God placed on this Earth! I would follow him anywhere. I was at the concert. And thus song, - all i need to hear are the first few chords and in tears because Stephen Biko was a simple but courageous man that an entire country feared. And Peter Gabriel brought him and his cause to light with this song for those who were unaware or uninformed. Hr is a man who is nor afraid to bring the ugly out in a positive way
, tank jour Peter .
So concise and powerful. How to send a message simply. PG doesn't fuck about. The last verse is absolutely perfect, *exactly* the right amount of right words. Totally astonishing 🙇♂️
💯agree.couldnt put it better
Great tribute to the journalist Steven Biko. Nelson Mandela continued the fight . The fight continues around the world in 24. Free Palestine
On the day we return, blood will be shed!
Come spirit. Come spirit.
What have we done? What have we done?
No words. Just watch. Listen. Learn. 💔❤️🩹💖🖤✊
בלי נשים בעולם לא היו יוצרים מוזיקה מעולה!! אין כמו אימא בעולם!!!!!!!
He is awesome this man
Before Nelson was famous there was Biko. Check out the film , Cry Freedom
Can we just go back 30 years, things were better.
Just look in his eyes and you know what this Song means to him!
And always will!!!!!!
Ha dei occhi dal altro mondo
just the eye liner.
This and U2 at Live Aid are my favorite live performances from the 80's.
As well as 500 thousand others.
J'ai toujours bien aimé Peter Gabriel dans l'ensemble mais cette chanson en particulier, cet enregistrement en particulier, me fait pleurer à chaque fois que je l'entends et bizarrement, ça me fait du bien.
Merci Peter, merci Manu, merci Amnesty.
This performance by Peter Gabriel of Biko would have been so very appropriate for the "Live Aid" concert held all over the world in 1985. After all "Live Aid" was all about the People in Africa.
I’ve heard several different performances of this song. Every time I discover a live recording that I’ve never heard before …I have it on F’n repeat for days.
So glad to hear you say that. Me too!
I-CO-NIC song. Proof that the pen, even if it takes time, is mightier than the sword. No Biko and many many others no Mandela, who is surely one of the finest human beings of all history.
Electronic bagpipes . . .Love it.
Thank you very much 👍
I was able to attend a show on this Amnesty International "Conspiracy of Hope" tour in Denver, CO (1986). Peter Gabriel, U2, Sting, Bryan Adams, Lou Reed. It affected my 🌍 paradigm. ☮
