    Hello, my dad's had this camera for several years, and so I finally got my hands on it. There's another lens installed on it, it can zoom from 18 to 105mm, which is great for me as I've been making videos for a while, would come in handy I mean.
    Anyway thank you for the video, it certainly is gonna help me with figuring out the optimal settings for me. I also found out that a6000 is way better than I thought😅

    Under the second page of the last tab in settings there is an option called 'PAL/NTSC Selector'
    If you are in PAL mode you can only record video in 25 fps.
    If you want to be able to choose between 24, 30 or 60 fps, you should change the mode to NTSC!
    *If you do this, make sure that you have your photos/videos transferred on pc, because the system will format the card (you will be asked to do that)

      @LukeGoldstone  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      100% correct! I forgot to mention this so thank you.
      It is also dependent on what region you are in because it is based on the light system in different areas so that you don’t have the lights flickering in videos.

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lights flickering isn’t that big an issue though so it comes down to pretence and whether or not people want those extra frames 😄

      I actually do have other questions 😆. Is there a way connect a laptop to the camera as a monitor? I have a mirror attached to it because the screen is in the back, but it’s clunky & taking up a lot of space. And do you know how to hook up a remote to start & stop recording? Any tips are welcomed. Thank you so much for your help! ☺️🙏🏾

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never tried connecting a laptop but it should work as far as I’m aware if you have the correct cables 🤔
      With regards to the remote start, there is a Sony app “imaging edge” that lets you connect your phone to your camera and you should be able to do that there and also to transfer your photos and videos directly to your phone😌

    • @NotsoplainJane
      @NotsoplainJane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LukeGoldstone thank you once again! For a while the Sony app didn’t support the 6000, I guess because it’s older, but maybe an update fixed that. Will try! 👍🏾😊

  • @DigThat32
    @DigThat32 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    might be helpful to mention that you can only access the resolution settings while recording MP4. Doesn't appear when AVCHD or XAVC S is selected.

    • @dustinyamchuk7400

      does that mean its Null while in XAVC? Or just cant change settings in that mode?

    • @LukeGoldstone

      It would be a difference in settings thankfully, it wouldn’t make your footage null.

    hi. making a documentary about maui. using the sony for filming. what’s your best advice for good lighting at any time of day + keeping the camera still while filming off the ground/off a tripod? i plan to use the tripod more for interviews

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, some tips would be to always shoot with your shutter speed at double your frame rate (1080 24fps would be 1/48 - 1/50 and 4k 60 would be 1/120) to keep good motion and natural motion blur.
      For steadiness, it takes some practice to get good at being really stable with your hands when not using a tripod or gimbal but you really do get used to it and can always stabilise when editing. A bit of natural sway or movement doesn’t run a shot, it can actually add to it (as long as the subject is still in focus and in shot of course).
      With time of day, just make sure that you spend a lot of time getting your setting right for each shot as you don’t want to have some clips he over exposed during very bright hours. Put the zebra grid lines on so that you can see what is over exposed in each shot before filming.
      Also make sure that you don’t have people facing the wrong way, use the suns position to your advantage but always be very aware that the lighting can ruin a shot if you aren’t being aware of it so always keep it in mind, especially during the middle of the day.
      If you don’t have a light source yourself, I’d suggest maybe getting a lens filter as they can darken your image for you allowing you to keep your aperture lower than you would have been able to due to over exposure.
      I hope this helps and good luck on your documentary, please let me know when it is done as I’d love to see it.

  • @seabird2977
    @seabird2977 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video, you mention shooting slow motion at one point. I have an a6000 and can’t seem to get any kind of slow motion. Is the camera just not able?

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately due to the camera having a max frame rate of 50/60 FPS, the slow motion won’t be that great as it can’t go to 120/240 but it can still be used to slow down the clips slightly for some cinematic shots. This is done in whatever software, program or app you use to edit your videos.
      Hope this helps.

    Hey Luke, Just picked one from the second hand market myself, looking forward to exploring.
    There's a 25/50 option but thanks to @viktortaseski comment, it works flawlessly, only issue is the stabilization which i believe can be reduced to some extent in post. Other than that im loving the camera.
    Also, Happy New Year 2024.

    I have always had a question about using my a6000 doing a vlog and can’t get an answer. 🤞🏾 I use my iPad and or my iPhone to edit my videos. In order for me to export from my a6000 to my phone or iPad I can only do it when I shoot the video on “MP4”… the file format S&D won’t let me use?? Do you know why? Is MP4 ok? Looks the same

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmmm, i'm honestly not to sure why this happens and although you might possibly lose quality, it could still be fine as when i have edited my videos, i export them in mp4 anyways. i can't say for sure whether or not you'll lose quality or how much you will lose but depending on your use for the videos, it should be fine. hope the helps, sorry for not having a concrete answer.

    Can mp4 files be good to slow videos down? What are the best settings as I can’t seem to export any XAVC files

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  ปีที่แล้ว

      XAVC uses more data and a higher bitrate so quality is higher when filming but I always export my videos in mp4 once edited and ready to go.
      Hope this helps Craig!

      Hi Brianna, I’m sorry to hear that you are having that issue, I have personally not encountered it before so I’m not sure how to help you unfortunately. I personally have 2 SanDisk extreme pro U3 170mb/s memory cards. What are you currently using ?

    • @Tony_Calvert
      @Tony_Calvert 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Had the same problem. Found this on Sandisk website. Looks like your SD card has to be 64gb or greater.
      Beginning in 2015, several new Sony DSLR and Camcorders were released with XAVC S video recording modes. These cameras require using a 64GB or higher SDXC card for recording in XAVC S modes.

    • @LukeGoldstone
      @LukeGoldstone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the lens has OSS, make sure steadyshot is turned on in the settings of the camera. If not, you’ll have to get a mount under your camera which helps a lot or to stabilise it when editing it. Hope this helps!

      Adobe Premiere Pro has an effect called stabilization that you can use to edit shaky videos. It gives it a wobbly effect though if it's very shaky though.
