I'm so happy weve finally started to enter the age where OoT hacks are becoming commonplace and even getting some really cool ones..like SM64 has been enjoying for many years
I've had literal dreams of OOT/MM ROM hacks for a long while. It's about time that Zelda modding has come into full fruition! Plus a lot of Beta OOT files and maps have been discovered, so I'm hoping that fan-made Ura Zelda project can be restored.

@Kyle Katarn I mean, there's a decompilation project for OOT going on, which eventually lead to that leaked PC build of SM64 while that game was being worked on. It's gonna happen, but when, we have no idea.

That hourglass item is legit the coolest thing I've ever seen in a romhack.
Kaze had done incredible things for sm64 hacking as well, I'm not sure on his background but all of his hacks implement things way beyond anyone else imo raises the bar for sure.

Simply playing the standard oot tracks through different instruments goes a long way to give this hack some original identity
Playing N64 Midis with different tracks is a whole untapped musical genre.
I have peanut brain and i kept imagining the sm64 speedrunner playing a bunch of different instruments

Honestly the only thing that keeps this from being my headcanon is Saria. She never showed any mystical ability outside of her awakening as a Sage, which wouldn't have happened yet in this timeline.
It feels like the way she was handled was basically just as a device to start the plot and get Link his sword, which is something that might have made more sense had they replaced her with a Great Fairy or the Queen Fairy.

Short...but actually one of the better Zelda hacks I've ever seen. This is the first one to look almost like an actual short Zelda game. Also they actually made a boss, which is awesome.
I am extremly curious to see how they textured and programed it.

Even though it's not technically canon, can you imagine how powerful the demon in this romhack must have been, before transforming, to actually _kill_ one of the Seven Sages?
Saria doesn't awaken as a sage until after Ganondorf takes over. So here she's probably more or less just a normal Kokiri as far as power goes

The malleability of the grass prevents them from being cut. Ironically, the rigidity of the trees is their downfall
The maps in the dungeon are a nice touch.
I like how this rom sort of tries to explain why Link was in that forest to lead up to MM great rom to whoever made it
The boss battle theme had little bits of so many zelda themes, sarias song, rutos theme, the red butt ape battle from TP, oot title theme, likes omg its a masterpiece

Master of Time is another ROM hack that was released this week with approximately 20h of gameplay! Not as polished as this one but looking forward to try it

@@MozTS Nah dude MOT is sick. Great lore & atmosphere, awesome music, interesting level design, tons of secrets and side missions. Only valid criticisms imo are that it has no boss fights & some ugly textures.

This romhack was amazing! Seeing the dead giant tree in the deku area was pretty unsettling... then when you get into that dungeon the music just makes you feel anxious. This hack hit me in the feels and I did NOT see it coming. And the music really sold it too, good job! Makes you wonder if the great deku tree in OOT would have turned out that way had link not intervened.
The most unusual and unique part was ZFG trying to play at full health and gathering hearts instead of ignoring them and burning through fairy bottles like there was no tomorrow.
Lol I'm cracking up over here seeing everyone in the chat scold zfg for cheating as he just keeps doing it.
Then someone posts this: "You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference"

When I played it I cheated unintentionally in a room of the dungeon.
Placing a bombchu to reach the crystal and then go into the upper floors.
I didn't realize there was a room to do that exact thing but with parkour lol

Edit: I'm only 11 minutes in and HOLY FRICK this is awesome. I loved ROM hacks before, like Dawn & Dusk and Nimpize...but this...this takes it to a whole other level. I adore how creators can shuffle some existing assets around and make an entirely new game. New atmospheres, environments, puzzles, enemies, game mechanics, and the list goes on. You ROM creators deserve some freaking medals for the absolute creative honey you've created for us...FOR FREE. Not only that, you guys make your own music! Talk about going the extra mile! It's as if I'm reliving my first time playing OOT/MM again. Other than that, I'm left completely speechless, and, not joking whatsoever, my jaw is wide open. Thank you guys so much for making these masterpieces and works of art which belong in a (gaming) museum, no joke. If there's anyway I can support these guys with their work, can someone please let me know? We all salute you. ( 0_o )7

1:30:00 - I have to 100% agree with ZFG on that. That room was poorly laid out to have the area where you need to go next be BEHIND you as you enter the room. No, that’s not his fault, chat.
EDIT: Oh, even worse, the guards just vanish once he does do it in the right order, so there’s even less directionality in that room...
The history about a demon torturing poor spider-things is well written. The demon observed their pain and wrote down everything, wanting to acquire the power of faeries and failed, then enslaved them all by not letting them to escape as the fearies did. When someone makes you feel sad for a spider, he's a good narrator.

This is my first video that Ive seen of yours. Ive attempted watching a lot of zelda rom hacks but either theres no commentary or the people commentating I dont vibe with. I must say I genuinly enjoyed every bit of this and i think I just found someone new to start watching.
This channel is super chill. Also since oot is such an old game, ironically his content is timeless and you can watch years old stuff just fine.

You've probably already played it but Nimpize Adventure is a full length ROM hack and it's incredible! It has brand new assets, reuses old assets in very creative ways and every dungeon is basically custom with all new puzzles. I will admit there's grammar mistakes and traversing the world is odd but I actually like that. All in all, an amazing game and I'd highly recommend anyone and everyone play it. The story is cool, not too in depth but cool. Definitely worth playing!
Yes it's really cool, though i lack a good world map telling me how the areas are connected. Also some puzzles are extremely hard.
And the ending is too short.
The sword beam mechanic is soooo cool! I wish that would have officially made it in oot

Nice video. I confess I might have been lost around as much as you while you were searching for that forest entrance, depending on how I'd have explore it the first time inside. They should have made the "entrance puzzle" a bit more complex to avoid "accidental sequence break" like you did, cause well, it was easy to crack without much effort.
On a side note, from what I could gather after watching you play Master of Time as well: yes, backflipping, sword jump and jumping off ledges toward a diagonal direction are considered sequence break xD. But doing some link to the past rando myself, I can totally understand how you could get so accustomed to doing those on reflex you sometime don't realise you're not supposed to do that in a "normal casual playthough", especially when they're not really glitches or anything in the first place.

For those who keeps wondering why mechanics or even custom bosses are so rares in hacks:
Making a rom hack can need "little" (relatively of course, it's still not that esasy) / less programming skills, if "all you're doing" is making / important 3D models like maps or custom texture for items / terrain (wich is already something big, I mean, I wouldn't be able to design whole 3D maps myself, even less making them interesting to play xD).
But if you need to make completly new items, you need to be able to program how it works from scratch, wich of course take more time but way more knowledges than just replacing things.
Same applies for bosses, but also with extra stuff: you also need to know how to do animations! Since it's a new boss, you need to create completly new animations for it.
If you look at this from a "pro" point of view, programming new item and creating working new animations are already two more "jobs" to add to the hack.
I'm with you all when you say romhacks should have those stuff more often, but please understand that it's sometimes just out of their league, but they still want to propose some content on their own ^^.

I loved everything about this. The level design, the new mechanics, the music, the aesthetic, the deku-nut addicted pants guy. I especially like how it neatly ties OoT and MM together. It always bothered me how OoT ended with Navi pissing off and then MM starting with Link in some random forest.
One thing that confused me though was Saria being like a dead ghost thing. Isn't she a Mage in OoT? How did she die? Or is it like an artifact of her becoming a Mage now and no longer being in the same plane of existence?
Sage*, and she doesn’t have to be a sage in this timeline.
It's implicit that all the sages are dead. Or turn into sages after dying.
Darunia after he went to fight Volvagia, the Gerudo girl, Ruto at some point in the water temple, Impa after she goes into the Shadow Temple and the random Light sage is presented as long dead.
To me that leaves kind of a notion that Saria dies after you meet her at the temple entrance or was dead already
@@Baddaby They die in adult link’s timeline. Remember, OOT ends with Link going back in time again, which is where MM branches off. They would all be alive here, you even see some of them alive in the ending cutscene of OOT IIRC.
Saria must've had more magic up her sleeve. I bet she was probably hanging in the Forest Temple.

: Oog. I have had these recurring dreams for many many years where I wind up in a new area of Ocarina of Time, often North of adult-era Hyrule Castle. Everything is dark and distorted and fucked up, very nightmarish stuff. Rom hacks make it seem like those dreams will become very real very quick.

I was about to go insane watching him think he needed to fuck around up there. CLEARLY nothing was up there and the bell doesn’t mean a thing, SO STOP MESSING AROUND UP THERE. If you were supposed to be up there, it wouldn’t glitch half Link’s body into the roof. I mean daaaaaamn.

@@Koalaheikki It's a difference of fluid intelligence vs ZFG's Iron-clad crystallized intelligence. I wouldn't say his fluid intelligence is "hopeless", and I wouldn't say the puzzles are "simple". There's just a wide divide between his fluid and crystallized intelligence.
I would love to see a fully fledged, polished, open world oot rom hack someday

Legally they can't use the source code. Same reason why emulators aren't even allowed to look at it as if they do, Nintendo can sue and remove those emulators completely
@@justincorbett3792 "legally" Cmon man, nintendo has shutdown romhacks before without any sourcecodes. All people need to do is not shout out to the rest of the world that they are making a mod, and then just drop it on the net without their names attached. The reason why this won't happen is that msot people would rather get the attention "this man is making a zelda hack that does x" rather than just do it for their own enjoyment and then anonymously publish it and walk away. Everyone these days wants credit for something.
@@Maverick180c yeah but using the source code is different. Because it's one thing to make a ROM hack and take it down but using the source code could involve legal action as well is what I mainly wanted to point out. That's why I don't think it'll ever be used

As far as I've heard there's not really any source code in the leaks, just header files and assets.

After watching so many romhacks played by ZFG,
I still think the Missing Link is truly in the god tier of OOT/MM romhacks
Quality over quantity, short but gold.
The Cojiro part really tripped me up in this hack. I kept trying to take him to Grog who is sleeping, but I couldn't find a way up the Deku Woods wall. Turns out I was supposed to take him to the end of Deku Grove!
Lmao he really said "Oh really?" when the deku scrub said he couldn't get across the bridge
That is the most creepy custom boss I've ever seen! If Eiji Aonuma saw this, I'm not sure if he would be very impressed or flip his lid. 🤯
It's funny how much habits ingrained from speedrunning cripples him in the boss fight. Between not trying all the tools in his kit and stubbornly spamming crouch stabs against a boss that naturally and likely intentionally raises it's weak point after you start striking, he really makes it harder than it ever should be.
I've just noticed Ostrealava, the guy who made Nimpize was in Missing Link's cutscenes team! Nice!! =D

The boss theme is the same as the theme of Kalle Demos from Wind Waker except it's OoT-ified!
Uhh, other way around, I think. Kalle Demos’s theme takes influences from OoT.
Also probably the best romhack for OoT out rn.
