@@Offgridlee444 welcome! Glad you are here!! Well done! 20 birds is no easy feat!! And that stock will be great for the winter! Kudos to you for taking control of your health!
@maplewoodhomestead2017 I used it as a deterrent for dogs that were licking or chewing spots on their bodies. Like a hot spot or allergic reactions. I think there's other brands. You may need to try more than one to deter her. You could possibly make your own with something safe to ingest but unpleasant for the goats' taste buds.
With your laying hens. Adding corn which is about 7%protein and scratch which is about 10%...lowers the overall protein of their daily intake. I've found over 30 plus years of chicken raising that the higher the protein...16% plus...is much better at getting chickens to lay. Also, if you can, don't let them out until mid afternoon, that way they lay in the coop and not out somewhere where its difficult to find their nest. I also have goats, but have nigerian dwarfs, thankfully I haven't had any self nursers....but I've heard others that have and have used the goat bra t-shirt method to stop it. I don't know if the next freshening they go back to doing it or not. Hope you solve the issue.
Thank you for the ideas!!! With the chickens, we have had them on in 18% protein feed. Isn't that weird? We will have to try locking them in now that the weather is cooler and we won't get fried chicken! Someone else alsov made that recommendation about the t shirt. I think I'll try that. SOmething else came up with that same goat as I tried to figure out why she started after 7 months in milk. That's the next video.
I have heard of making your doe wear a t-shirt backwards (back legs through the arm holes and tail out the neck hole). I'm sure you would need to switch out shirts and wash regularly, but it could be worth a try. Sorry you are dealing with a problem goat! That's part of their fun though! 🤣
That's a great idea!!! Regarding the kids of raising goats, we have another issue even since this video that's related. Always something! Keeps me humble. Always learning!
Keep 3-4 nubians & buck. Like you all livestock has a job. Have culled, freezred or sold those which failed to do so. Everything from udder issues, doe rabbit mothering fails to hens that eat eggs.
It is sad it has to be that way. Isn't it? Just a fact. However, I think I've solved a mystery as to my doe's "why" since this video. We will be posting another soon to explain.
Wonderful message! Take care of the body that was so graciously given you. Being a homesteader means you need to make hard decisions.

I've used Bitter Apple on dogs. It's worked well. They do learn what the bottle is and try to avoid being sprayed.
Do dogs also do that??? Did they ever go back to doing it?
