    With your laying hens. Adding corn which is about 7%protein and scratch which is about 10%...lowers the overall protein of their daily intake. I've found over 30 plus years of chicken raising that the higher the protein...16% plus...is much better at getting chickens to lay. Also, if you can, don't let them out until mid afternoon, that way they lay in the coop and not out somewhere where its difficult to find their nest. I also have goats, but have nigerian dwarfs, thankfully I haven't had any self nursers....but I've heard others that have and have used the goat bra t-shirt method to stop it. I don't know if the next freshening they go back to doing it or not. Hope you solve the issue.

    • @maplewoodhomestead2017
      @maplewoodhomestead2017 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the ideas!!! With the chickens, we have had them on in 18% protein feed. Isn't that weird? We will have to try locking them in now that the weather is cooler and we won't get fried chicken! Someone else alsov made that recommendation about the t shirt. I think I'll try that. SOmething else came up with that same goat as I tried to figure out why she started after 7 months in milk. That's the next video.

    How big are your breeding does? I'm new to rabbits and was told to feed 1 cup a day. I feed half a cup in the morning and half in the evening. They are always hungry. One of my does even hops out of her cage to stick her face in the feed container. Recently, I've been hearing 1 cup may be too much, but I've also heard if they're hungry.. feed them. My big does are probably 10-12lbs, they are NZ. I got them bred, so I haven't weighed them yet.

      Sorry I missed answering this sooner! When does are in milk or pregnant, I really don't limit their intake. In the video, we give an approximate of how much they typically eat - it's sufficient. Baby rabbits are unlimited in their intake, but eat approximately what was shown in the video. If they get too fat though, they will have problems reproducing.

    I know this feeling! We’re not on a homestead, but leaving our sailboat (which is home to husband, myself and our three kids) takes days of preparation! I will be gone with husband staying behind to do projects, and the list seemed daunting, especially with the rain we get in Guatemala and all the leaks he will need to fix with us gone. Do you use lists, or post its to keep organized? I tend to ADHD prep! lol all over the place, but know what needs doing and get it done!
