  • I continue my series of "New Forest Walk" videos , accompanied by my Whippet (Logan), with a walk from Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard.
I start off discovering a WW2 Pillbox at Beaulieu before heading off down Solent Way towards Bucklers Hard. During my walk I come across the old Estate Brickworks, Baileys Hard (where HMS Salisbury was built in 1698), the site of the boatyard where HMS Agamemon was built (in 1781), The Duke's Bathhouse & finally Bucklers Hard - where I visit the St Mary's Chapel, the SS Persia Memorial & the iconic "Bucklers Hard Street".
I also have a look inside the "Bird Watch" Hide along the route

Thank you. It was very cold that day!

Thanks Dave. Either of the two vehicles you showed at the end would be befitting modes of transport for a TH-cam star such as yourself!

Ive done this walk many time and you can park in the Motor Museum!

Thanks - yes, the public car park in Beaulieu itself is certainly very small (and there is a charge) so it is great that, as you say, you can park at the Motor Museum - (which I believe is free) as their car park is huge and rarely completely full - just means a small walk to get to the village centre.

Thanks Marq. (I had some challenges with filming in the low sun that day!).

@@DaveFord That's where grading the video in the edit comes into play.

Done the walk with my family this year for the first time sadly the coast path was closed but a great walk all the same.

Yes … I believe that the "Riverside Walk" loop has been temporarily closed due to the muddy conditions, to allow the path to recover, so basically (at the moment) it is an "out & back" walk on the main track.

Having watched your videos Dave I’d love to do one on a local now closed landfill site in Holbury that has connections with the Second World War etc but I’ve no clue on editing and background music

@@Stickman2112 Sounds interesting. It looks like there was a significant Anti Aircraft Battery at Holbury in WW2 - indeed indications are that there was a farm called Gunsite Farm that was located at the end of Lime Kiln Lane. It appears that there are no traces left of either the Battery or the Farm - such a shame that something that was so important for the Country all those years ago seems to have been "lost in time".

Dave Ford I’ve memories of the old caravan site that was where Mill Pond estate is now I can remember the old buildings the gun emplacement and underground bunkers but I always thought there’s a cottage up the side track by the landfill site that still has a concrete base for a gun nearby there is a pamphlet that I found in the library in Blackfield called The Hardley Guns that details some info but I’d love to do video on the top as well as my late dad worked there in the 70’s many happy childhood memories there lol
