Nice grab on that Jack Wilson. The other one to look out for of his that’s a bit under the radar is Ramblin on the Vault label.

You did great with Blossom Dearie Comden and Green. I love my copy of that, mine is a very good VG+. I have only seen it once at a local record store in Brooklyn. Never seen it again. MONO copy.

As for the first Coltrane LP you showed: if you play the record a lot, 2 copies makes sense. You caught me off guard with the Julie Andrews LPs; we (I) forget that she could sing more than show tunes. I have "Art Pepper + Eleven" myself.

Nice to see some Blossom Dearie here. I only stumbled into her music via a blind buy in a charity shop last year. Sui generis, as they say. Also, a big influence on Bill Evans. I never knew Jack Wilson played the organ(?) I have a couple of his recordings. 'Katanga' is particularly outstanding. I picked up a Jazz Crusaders LP on my recent trip to Japan. Better players than material to my ears.

I met Blossom, have all her stuff. She signed most of mine. She was a character.

That’s amazing! Did you get to see her live many times? Also music only can tell us so much about a person I would’ve loved to see her live just to get a more in depth look into her personality, she seemed like a super likable person in interviews.

It was just the once in the early 2000's about a month after Hairspray opened on Broadway. We saw the Hairspray matinee that day and Blossom's gig at Danny's Skylight Room that evening. (quite a day!) I think it was a three piece accompanying her. (you could google it though maybe was a two piece getting old here) Put on a great show. At once point a guy up front put his foot on the stage and she stopped and insisted he remove it lol. She wasn't mean about it but she was firm I think she saw it as disrespect. (I have heard tales of similar things happening at her shows) During the break I met her coming out of the restroom and I fanboyed and we chatted a bit. After the show she sat at a table near the front door and greeted anyone who wished to say hello and signed anything you had, and I had a very large stack! She asked where we were from and when we said Virginia she said "Ohhh I have a song about Winchester Virginia!' (which of course I knew already....Winchester In Apple Blossom Time) A very nice lady and I night I will always remember. @@amanandhismusic

Ryan I don't think anyone would give you flack about having multiple copies of any records, because they are in the hands of someone who genuinely appreciates the genius that is John Coltrane.
And, I forgot how good the Comden and Green album was. I'm now rediscovering it.

Thornel Schwartz played a lot with Jimmy Smith in the 50s. He's really good on the live recordings from the club baby grand that Jimmy Smith put out on Blue Note.

I am so happy I was able to send you some great titles! Records come and go but the friendships we make are the most important part of the hobby!
Also, that Art Pepper + Eleven was apart of a collection my local store got! I have about 10 records from the same original owner and they tend to tape a bunch of Downbeat reviews to the inner sleeve. It is super interesting to see how collectors back then used different sources to inform them on their purchases! So glad you’re enjoying the records! Can’t wait for the next package 😁
