    Your enthusiasm for jazz comes through loud and clear and will serve you well your whole life. What a great hobby this is! It’ll only get better. You’re a rarity for your generation. Maybe you were born too late. You would have enjoyed the Village Vanguard in the 1960s!

    That Benny Golson album is incredible! Super happy you got that Fuchsia Swing Song, too. That album is absolutely phenomenal.
    Thank you for the video and sharing.

    Great stuff Ryan! Came across your channel watching some other 2024 jazz vinyl tags. The self titled Blossom Dearie is a great score: no home should be without it. Your passion for jazz is infectious, and had me dust off some Hank Mobley vinyl for the turntable. Well done!

    great job with the OG Blossom Dearie- this is on my list (have Japan and VMP) Gotta love Annie Ross!! Was recently at record store upstate NY and came across a OG stereo Annie Ross- a gasser! Paid about 20 for it VG++. I had a MONO pure pleasure, but always love finding clean VG+ or better orig or older pressing. Glad to see you have the Helen Merrill- self titled. I have the 1st mono repress in great great condition, blue back in VG++ both cover and vinyl. I paid 200 for it and thought this was the closest i'd get- sounds killer. take care

    Good to see you back Ryan! I often think I was born in the wrong country...and the wrong century! Some lovely jazz records ! (Sam Rivers on order!) I agree about Third Man! Filthiest records I've ever seen!) Cheers from the UK

      Thanks Mark! Sometimes I think the same things myself, I would’ve loved to have been in Europe during the 50s when artists like Tubby Hayes and Barney Wilen were roaming about. Also glad I’m not the only one with that opinion of Third Man, I liked the general idea at first but nothing they do surprises me or impresses me anymore. I think the general idea to take on legendary records like that is definitely neat but it’s all about the execution. I could name a plethora of better pressing plants or companies that could do what they’re doing way better. It’s a shame some of the records that never received a reissue until now are actually being done by them, I think it’s a disservice personally but maybe I’m being too harsh.

    It's channels like this one that prevent me from losing interest in vinyl. I'm reminded of what I have on my shelves and can appreciate it even if I haven't played anything in some time. Congrats on putting that project you mention. That takes real dedication to the music. Speaking of Nashville, the country's largest record pressing plant is there; they added something like 48 new presses recently.

      @amanandhismusic 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the kind words Charles! I’m hoping it can be beneficial for everyone out there who love Trane! Has Nashville always led the US with the most pressing plants? I took a roadtrip to Texas back in late 2022 and stopped there to visit a few shops and seen a lot of local pressings which kinda surprised me because I had no idea😂

      Right there with you! His music definitely reminds me of Ravel and a few other classical composers, I think his inspiration definitely came from composers like that as well as great jazz pianists of his time like Art Tatum or Fats Waller. I’ve always though he takes all their ideas and works with them all at once.

    The Local Legends challenge is a cool idea and there are many ways to include an artist. For example, Count Basie was born in New Jersey, got his first gigs in Kansas City, then took up residency in Chicago before going to New York, and then he died in Florida. That's five locations for Basie alone. Many ways to bend the rules ;)

    • @amanandhismusic

      I love seeing people bend the rules! Even if it’s the genre! Yesterday someone posted a country record with their uncles appearing on it. Super cool to see the stories and the origins of different artists whether they’re familiar or not!

    Hey man, awesome scores! The whole Coltrane project is super ambitious, but I know your love of him, and you might be one of the only people that can pull it off haha. I’m stoked to see that. Funnily enough I pulled a copy of Blossom Dearie Sings Rootin’ Songs out of a $1 bin last year. Think it was around VG, and ended up sending it to Ilya. Still the only album of hers I’ve found in the wild. Take it easy, dude, and looking forward to the podcast as well!

    Young fella, well done and good on you! May I ask the question that a lot of your viewers would like to know...Where do you get the funds to buy such a collection and keep on buying? I am 65 yoa and collected all my life but I couldn't afford to buy these- how do you do it?

    • @amanandhismusic
      @amanandhismusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I was still in high school I was selling on eBay pretty regularly not just records but other things too so that held me for a while at least for my first year of college but now I have a job that allows full time hours while I’m off of school so that’s been a benefit. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have my parents paying for my food and not charging me rent. As for other things I don’t owe much money in bills so because of that I can both save and put money towards records which is really my only hobby. I also think that over time with yard sales, antique stores, eBay, you tend to gain a knack for finding things for cheaper than they should be. I’ll admit that in terms of the majority of my collection I tend to buy things when they’re being sold below the market price for their grade. All the meanwhile I sell to make things maybe the least bit profitable or so I can get space on my shelves😂

    It doesn't help that some of those cd compilations of live dates on Coltrane are rather nebulous in their dates and even personnel. When cds first came out, labels tried to pass off the recordinngs they had for studio recordings. Today's live releases like those on Cellar document as much as they can and are truthful about what they are. There are so many Ellington and Parker records on 33 album that are nebulous and of mediocre sound quality.
    Grant Green also did a similar themed album around this time as the Don Wilkerson western records and it was called, "Goin' West.
    I always wanted to go into Amoeba Hollywood and ask where is their local section. It would be the whole store!
    You have as much knowledge as Ken Micallef, Jazz Shepherd, Mike Esposito(The In Groove), or Chris (Tunes from the Mancave).

    • @amanandhismusic
      @amanandhismusic ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! Appreciate the kind words and support! I’m super happy to say that the majority of the Coltrane bootlegs are actually better quality recordings than the Parker live recordings. I’ve had Goin’ West on my wantlist for a while but I guess it was one of those records I wanted to hear for the first time on vinyl, now that you reminded me I’ll definitely be on the hunt for that one! Hopefully I can have it by the next video!
