You are building a great collection. I always appreciate your passion for jazz.
Great pick-ups. The Lee Morgan 1557 is gorgeous.
I heavily recommend ‘That’s Just The Way I Want To Be’ by Blossom Dearie, if you don’t already know it! Nice background story to her song ‘Hey John’ too! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I’ve been loving that CD boxset, tons of goodies including that one on there! Hopefully they reissue it on vinyl that would be awesome!
Yes, the original isn’t easy to find, but worth it! As for reissues, well...yes!
im also lucky enough to found a early Mark Murphy record on capitol records, he is a underrated jazz singer!!
Ooo haven’t heard of him! Gonna go check him out right now! If he’s on Capitol I’m sure it’s good! Thanks for the recommendation Dave!
Really nice pickups, Ryan. I agree, I was a surprised the Sonny Clark Trio Tone Poet had such a lukewarm reception - I love it. Looking forward to the next podcast! - Mike
Excited to watch your Coltrane video! Can't wait!
Fantastic pickups, Ryan. Thanks so much for the shout out - I'm stoked you are enjoying vol3. That's gotta be in my top 10 jazz albums as well. But holy crap! You got that Wilbur Harden! It's amazing you found one!
Quite a stack there, my friend. I'm noticing you are getting more into vocal jazz lately? I have not been a huge vocal jazz guy myself but there are some albums I cannot live without, such as Helen Merrill.
Love the video.
Can't wait for the Coltrane one.
Thanks Ilya! Vol.3 has been on my table so much lately, recently I’ve just felt like playing my favorite albums over and over again so I’ve been cycling between the same 20 records. As much as I like instrumental jazz I started with vocal jazz before I made the jump, back in middle school I was listening to a lot of the crooners like Frank and Nat but come freshman year of high school I found Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, I think sophomore or junior year I found Miles which thus led me to Coltrane and started the craze😂 This year I’ve been revisiting artists who I’ve heard before but never really delved too much into such as Blossom Dearie, Chris Connor, and Helen Merrill. What are some of the vocal albums you can’t live without??
I’m glad you enjoyed the records, brother! You’re always hooking me up and sending me straight heat. The new chair looks good and to be honest, I think that might be the best pickup of the year LOL! The Hampton Hawes Vol. 3 is easily one of my favorite albums I own. The fidelity is great and I am glad I got to put a copy in your hands! I can’t wait for that copy of Go! And if you decide to sell that copy of Far Cry and Page One, let me know!
Superb Ryan, great finds...i love your passion, i wish i had your knowledge and also jazz records stores here in the UK
Thanks for the support Mark! Coincidentally most of my online purchases as of lately have been coming from the UK! I find a lot of rare jazz 45s on discogs from there, decent prices too!
Wow what an amazing set of pick ups, definitely some new things for me to explore. When you showed the McCoy I turned green....it’s been on my want list for ever and it’s so hard to find in the Uk. Great video 🙏
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! Hope you can pick up some of the titles I showed! Shockingly I’m actually listening to Nights of Ballads and Blues right now😂
Killer scores, man! Ilya really is the best. So happy you finally have a copy of Vol. 3! Happy to help out and get you some good albums. Tons of killer stuff here. Kept blowing my mind! I appreciate the tags too! Cheers, dude
Thanks Trent! Glad I could cross a ton off my wantlist with the help of you and Ilya!
You ought to look into the group Pink Martini
Thanks for the recommendation! I looked them up a little bit ago and they certainly sound pretty cool! I love the arrangements and the bands, definitely makes me feel like I’m listening to an old capitol jazz record from the 50s!
'Onya young fella. I reckon you must be an old Soul as your tastes are exquisite for your years. I think maybe you should be on with the Jazz Bums and give them a kick.... along. Love your work. Dig Jazz!
Thank you so much! I’d love to eventually but I don’t know if I can keep up with all them, they’re way ahead of me in terms of knowledge and collecting!
@@amanandhismusic Don’t fret on that - experience, time and age will serve you well. You are off to a fine start!
you are correct ryan, MGM took over verve records,id say about 1961 or 1962!
Mitzi Gaynor, cool, ive seen a few of her movies, she has a good voice!
I need to check out more! I know she did South Pacific which was wonderful!
The music on When Farmer Met Gryce was originally released on two ten-inches by Prestige in '54 and '55
Interesting I’ll have to add those to my wantlist! Thanks for the tip Richard!
i have a re-issue of the lucy ann polk record on interlude records!!
I should’ve definitely checked that out prior to grabbing my copy! Does it have a different cover? Maybe I was confusing it with a different release, luckily I paid way below what the going price was so I can’t be too disappointed in myself😂
@@amanandhismusic yeah, from what i read your mode album is the original, my copy has a different picture of Lucy, but its better than nothing,,,, i never find any of those Mode records out in the wild!
I have that Dexter Gordon (my only LP of his)! Haven't played it in a while, but thought it was good. I have both the Mitzi Gaynor recordings on CD, at. 24/96 resolution; nice and clean-sounding. On another note, I see you have the records outside the jackets; what would be the reason for that? Thanks.
Thanks Charles! I keep the records outside the jacket for a few reasons, the ease of pulling the records out without taking them out of the sleeves is stellar, it also keeps the jackets flush and clean which I personally love doing for the early records in my collection since they’re a bit more delicate and costly if I damage. I also heard from someone that it reduces ringwear but I’m unsure on that claim
Why would you sale GO?
I didn’t play it as much as I would’ve liked too, I think favor other Dexter sessions a tad more.
I love that sonny rollins. I wouldn't get rid of that og page one, and far cry would be a keeper as well.
