@@OnBoardHDyeah, I had a 340-600 on my way to JFK in June, and it definitely feels less under-powered during take off like the 340-300. I remember the first time I flew on the 340-300 many years back, I grew really concerned because I seriously thought there is something wrong as it didn’t seem to gain altitude in the beginning (up until this point I was used to 747-400 only on long haul)
Glad to be a member and thanks for the welcome! We flew from Frankfurt to Miami two weeks ago on the 747 and loved it. I admit we were in Business Class as it was very much a one off treat. You and I are the same, I stare out the window the entire time except over the sea, part of the joy of flying! Look forward to the next journey you take!

I finally got to the enough ammount of miles to be able to get a very good fare for a business long-haul, I will definitely take if on the Boeing 747. Yeah... but they are pretty bad in terms of fuel efficiency. Lufthansa still uses them because they don't have other options. Also, they own the planes... so they don't need to pay any leasing fees.
"Quick to ditch them"? These aircraft cost huge amounts for airlines to buy or to lend lease , and their running and maintenance costs per day are huge. If a worldwide unforeseen event (such as Corona virus) suddenly leaves some planes flying or on the ground EMPTY indefinitely, then the airline is suddenly BLEEDING MONEY on each airplane per day.. The way to save the airline is to "quickly ditch them", to stop this bleeding of the airline's overall budget.
U are right my friend. if you prefer being shoe-horned into a 787/777/a350 with narrow 30" pitch please let me know :) When airlines crow about technological marvels they are not talking about your puny bread roll of a seat in the back.

Lufthansa A340s have a special place in my heart. Back in 2014, itt was the first time flying ever, and it's such remarcable experience. I remember that by that time Lufthansa would gave hot towels before lunch/dinner in Economy Class. Can you immagine that? Nowadays they barely give you food, as we can see in the video. Anyways, I hope this plane can still work for a long time, bringing joy to the aviation enthusiasts

The use of "outdated" split-flap departure board in the main concourse of Terminal 1 is very much intentional and has been the iconic hallmark of the Frankfurt airport. People love watching the flaps flipping down row by row and hearing the soothing, mesmerising sound they make while the information is updated.
@@OnBoardHD You are mistaken: it was not to save money. You need to learn the first forty years history of the Terminal 1 to understand why the renovations were necessary. The extensive renovation in the airside was due to a several factors: rebuilding the entire corridors to install the second screening room for the US-bound flights after 9/11 and separate passport control for the Schengen and non-Schengen flights from 1992 on; removing the secured enclaves and small handbag x-ray machines from the waiting area at the gates (they were necessary in the 1970s due to the bouts of political terrorist attacks in Germany); replacing the rubber flooring tiles with smoother marble tiles (the rubber tiles had the raised dots that made pushing trolleys, prams, wheelchairs, and like strenuous); adding the underground tunnels as to connect and so forth. I know because I have used FRA many times for the US-bound and intra-European flights since 1973 and had seen so many changes over the years.
I love the A340!! I was supposed to fly on it, but had to change my flight, so I ended up on the Lufthansa's A380 to MUC. Tbh, I still kind of regret of not flying my fav A340. Nice video, Lucas btw!!

We used to fly A340 back and forth to Sydney Australia via Honolulu to Vancouver in the early 00's. They just have a feeling in the sky that put a smile on my face. It was also nice because seat pitch in economy was still 34" :) Nice video report and happy travels to you!

Though I am not a fanatic of airplanes but after watching the videos here... somehow, I get to appreciate and become an wannabe expert of the planes and the services provided by the different airline companies.. Lufthansa hs been my favorite airline for several decades. I travel to and from Europe several times a year from Boston and the A340 is one of my favorite aircraft.
Hi Onboard! I've been watching your videos since 2017 and it's amazing to see how much you've improved, both in terms of video quality and airline variety/routes. My favorite part of your channel is probably the fact that you always show the views out the window. Speaking of which, this looked like a very scenic flight! The views reminded me of your Norse 787 video, which makes sense given that both were flights between Northern Europe and LAX. As for the A340, I'd love to fly on one. Actually, I'd love to fly on any quadjet haha.

Dear traveler, beautiful camera/a real eye for the right perspective, duration etc. No talking - even better. Free Spanish class reading parallel. It doesn't get better. And now the negatives: The same flight on Iberia. How would you have felt differently? LH offers you something that is priceless to global travelers = 100% confidence in equipment status and pilot training. And let's stop complaining about eco flood. Remember the last boutique sandwich kiosk before boarding. There is no limitation on whatever food you bring on board to make it better than business in your eco seat. I mean I don't complain to my mom when the fridge is empty pretending I was starving. Keep up the good work :-)

The A340 is possibly the only Airbus I actually like! I got into aviation as a youngster in the late 1990s, and there was so much variety back then! Since then, (just like we see happening with cars) newer models are trending towards all looking the same-- unspecialized. Man, I miss sitting by an airport and constantly seeing DC-9s, 727s, DC-10s, L1011s, older-model 737s, 757s, 747s, etc.... all filling unique niches. Now it's just an endless parade of A320s and zombie 737s that are so far removed from the original design that they couldn't even glide without a bunch of computer band-aids. Soon enough, we won't ever see anything but generic twin-jets. I miss the tri-jets so much... my first flight ever was on a Northwest DC-10. Just a few MD-11 freighters left flying now. So sad that the 747s and A340s are fading away too... Oh well-- I'm ranting now, haha. Aviation is still fascinating no matter what, I'm just nostalgic for the much wider variety of design concepts 20+ years ago, and all the analog engineering. Gotta keep moving forward...
Yellowstone National Park is actually the oldest National park, globally. I used to go through the YNP annually cause my family went to the Grand Teton National Park.
As far as I know, it will be for those "premium" airlines like etihad, qatar, emirates, which offer a lot of flights from frankfurt, be it to far east connecting through their hubs or for tourism on arab peninsular. They want to increase pressure on lufthansa, not just by routes and capacity but also big and modern lounges, so they are the ones that requested the new terminal and will be the ones moving in.
@@OnBoardHD Yeah as a travel agent, I really feel this. Im based in frankfurt (and so CGN and FRA are my mainly used airport for myself and customers, DUS close after). If I go somewhere, I usually chose the national carrier over Lufthansa. In Europe, that mostly is LOT. I dont even mind picking Ryanair, my coworker even uses Wizz. And for longer flights, we usually also try to avoid lufthansa. On some routes its sadly not possible, Condor was usually our choice when there were alternatives (however with marabu that was a major f-up..).. I mean Lufthansa is kind of stuck in terminal 1. Its not bad, but I dont like FRA anyways. Just too much distance to cover from terminal to gates, crowded security.. We sell a lot of the arab carriers. Most for our cruise customers (we usually plan our own group booking with msc/costa/etc. as travel agency, one of us usually accompanies the groups on ship) but also tourists or connecting flights to thailand etc. It wouldnt be too easy to get to T3 from T1/train stations. But usually customers of that airlines wont care at all, because they dont arrive via public transport and AFAIK T3 will have parking buildings and own autobahn access, so it should be fine standalone. And if they can use it for modern lounges and push lufthansa to raise quality again.. Id love that! Just today I had a customer going to african country, needing to buy multiple checked luggage pieces and Lufthansa was unable to help me. They didnt do it right, then they couldnt send me an invoice, then one guy told me I had to call a number which turned out isnt in service anymore while the last woman i talked to told me "you work in the same business, you shouldnt be mad, its not your problem" (What??!?! Its our job to help our customers to have a good journey!!! Be it as travel agent or airline staff working hotline!). I was so frustrated that, as a german located near FRA, I decided to call the english lufthansa hotline. And there finally some nice lady was able to simply do what I asked her to. That is such a shame! I avoid Lufthansa at all costs.

I’m still impressed that Lufthansa is even operating the a340 in an era dominated by stupendously high fuel prices. It has almost the same capacity as an a330-300 just greater range and the -300 model is called the hair dryer for a reason because of how absolutely underpowered its engines are, which is why it needed four of them in the first place because they were built to originally power the a320 family.
They are using the A340-300, A340-600 and the 747-400 because the 777 and 787 are delayed and these are the only airplanes for long haul they have. Another reason is that they have first class. The original plan was that these airplanes going to be retired after the Covid but due the reason I've already said they are using these older planes.
LH’s Service honestly reflects the current state of Germany in many regards. Sadly, this is where we are going, everything is getting worse compared to how it once was. Honestly sad to see. Let’s just hope it is getting better in the future. Sadly, I do not think so.
You have high expectations about the food. The snack is looking fine to me. Don’t expect a full lunch meal instead of a snack especially after having two full lunches. I am always amazed by the quantity of food you can est
You can be amazed by whatever you want. The fact is that 1 warm meal is not enough ona 11h+ flight (I had 2 because I polite asked if they had any remaining once the service was finished). Then a 15g crackers in 9h is amazing. To put the cherry on the top, 1 sandwich. If you think this is a good service for this lenght, congrats. Enjoy it.
@@OnBoardHD I don’t know many airlines that serve two full hot meals on a flight to L.A if we don’t consider a hot sandwich being a hot meal. The food I had in may with United was way worse that this LH catering
Videologs of the flight process from beginning to end is interesting.I enjoy it.Aircraft is quiet and notes are 👌.V clips of 3 seconds and changing is too short too fast and too much Before I connect comes next 3 second clip.Use camera lens and time for longer spells outside the window .it gives more flight feel+ experience I admit videologs like this let viewers fly different airlines,different planes and different destinations from and to different airports all over the world....thanks to these videologs using excellent camerawork and editing.Many thanks and hope you will adopt these suggestions made in good faith and taste.
The new Terminal 3 in Frankfurt is due to open around easter 2026. Terminal 2 will then be closed for major refurbishment works. I guess that all non Star Alliance Airlines from Terminal 2 will then divert to the new Terminal during that time. I also heard that the new Terminal will have an area dedicated to low cost airlines such as Ryanair.
Yes that´s what I heard too. Once T3 is open, all non Star Alliance carriers will move from T2 to T3. At that point T2 will be closed and completely refurbished and, once reopened, will be better integrated with T1 and both Terminals (1 and 2) will be dedicated to LH Group and Star Alliance. Not sure what Condor will do. They are not part of LH Group or Star but they are currently located at T1.

I also dreamed to fly on A343 as it still exist nowadays;) BTW yes the service is downgraded sadly:( In July I've flown with LOT from Warsaw to LAX in eco, and first meal was more developed and during the second service there was a second hot meal again so the sandwich in LH is really surprising;) Cheers!

Very nice video! We flew the Lufthansa A 340 in September MUC to LAX. It was the first time flying the A340 and I must say it was a very positive experience. I prefer this 2-4-2 configuration instead of the 3-3-3 config in the A350. For how long time do you think Lufthansa will continue to fly with the A340? If I have understood correctly, the fuel consumption is not so good compared to newer aircrafts.
They are going to fly the A340 until there are enough 787 and 777. I think Lufthansa will fly the A340 probably 3-5 more years. The A340-600 a bit longer because of the First Class and they need First Class airplanes in Munich.
I once took my then-young children on Lufthansa to a holiday in the Middle East, with a stop in Frankfurt. Of the four flights, three were on the 747, and one was on the 340-300. Since I enjoy aviation, I looked out of the window on the takeoff. I wondered if the A340 was actually going to get off the ground. It finally did, after using up much of the long runway, and then seemed to barely climb. I have a good friend who's a captain on the A330, but not the 340; he said that the A340 is a good cruiser, but not a performance plane when it comes to takeoff and climb.
Yeah, that's what I heard as well: the A340 is one of the slowest airplanes to climb to cruise level, particularly on the first stages of climb hehe But it's an amazing plane to fly! Specially the A340-600!
@@OnBoardHD Since you travel so much, I have an upcoming trip from Amsterdam thru Frankfurt to Newark. I haven’t connected through Frankfurt in many years, although the last time was a nightmare. Perhaps it has improved. Do you know if it’s difficult to transfer from Schengen to non-Schengen at Frankfurt? I flew through Milan recently, and there was extra security for all flights to the U.S. and Israel, for obvious reasons. I have 1hr 40 min for the connection.

Lots of interesting things to see on this trip report. Great shot of entering the plane, as well as leaving. Taxiing at Frankfurt is nice with all the planes. Take-off seems to have taken longer than normal, before the plane was airborne. Crazy request to shut the windows.

Lol the A340 sucks though. It’s not efficient and it’s uncomfortable.

I'm saying that the land-side looks very nice. The airside (after security control) is compeltely outdated without any purpose, just save money...

I love the A340!! I was supposed to fly on it, but had to change my flight, so I ended up on the Lufthansa's A380 to MUC. Tbh, I still kind of regret of not flying my fav A340. Nice video, Lucas btw!!

We used to fly A340 back and forth to Sydney Australia via Honolulu to Vancouver in the early 00's. They just have a feeling in the sky that put a smile on my face. It was also nice because seat pitch in economy was still 34" :) Nice video report and happy travels to you!

Lufthansa hs been my favorite airline for several decades. I travel to and from Europe several times a year from Boston and the A340 is one of my favorite aircraft.

Hi Onboard! I've been watching your videos since 2017 and it's amazing to see how much you've improved, both in terms of video quality and airline variety/routes.
My favorite part of your channel is probably the fact that you always show the views out the window. Speaking of which, this looked like a very scenic flight! The views reminded me of your Norse 787 video, which makes sense given that both were flights between Northern Europe and LAX.
As for the A340, I'd love to fly on one. Actually, I'd love to fly on any quadjet haha.

Yeah, the route was quite similar... but the whole point of this video was to fly on the LH A340-300 before they retire them.
Now the priority is to fly o the A340-600 and A380. Really looking forward to it. Not for the service onboard, but for the planes :)

You're the best at what you do on TH-cam, you produce top content week after week and the information with regards to each aircraft showing destination/distance is superb and I can't imagine the work that goes into it. I also love the fact you record the announcements by the flight deck, cabin crew and the safety brief because it's such a big part of the journey. The same flight on Iberia. How would you have felt differently? LH offers you something that is priceless to global travelers = 100% confidence in equipment status and pilot training.
And let's stop complaining about eco flood. Remember the last boutique sandwich kiosk before boarding. There is no limitation on whatever food you bring on board to make it better than business in your eco seat.
I mean I don't complain to my mom when the fridge is empty pretending I was starving. Keep up the good work :-)

The A340 is possibly the only Airbus I actually like! I got into aviation as a youngster in the late 1990s, and there was so much variety back then! Since then, (just like we see happening with cars) newer models are trending towards all looking the same-- unspecialized. Man, I miss sitting by an airport and constantly seeing DC-9s, 727s, DC-10s, L1011s, older-model 737s, 757s, 747s, etc.... all filling unique niches. Now it's just an endless parade of A320s and zombie 737s that are so far removed from the original design that they couldn't even glide without a bunch of computer band-aids. Soon enough, we won't ever see anything but generic twin-jets. I miss the tri-jets so much... my first flight ever was on a Northwest DC-10. Just a few MD-11 freighters left flying now. So sad that the 747s and A340s are fading away too... Oh well-- I'm ranting now, haha. Aviation is still fascinating no matter what, I'm just nostalgic for the much wider variety of design concepts 20+ years ago, and all the analog engineering. Gotta keep moving forward...

As far as I know, it will be for those "premium" airlines like etihad, qatar, emirates, which offer a lot of flights from frankfurt, be it to far east connecting through their hubs or for tourism on arab peninsular. They want to increase pressure on lufthansa, not just by routes and capacity but also big and modern lounges, so they are the ones that requested the new terminal and will be the ones moving in.

I really hope that, at some point, the European airlines will react and improve their service compared to those...
@@OnBoardHD Yeah as a travel agent, I really feel this. Im based in frankfurt (and so CGN and FRA are my mainly used airport for myself and customers, DUS close after). If I go somewhere, I usually chose the national carrier over Lufthansa. In Europe, that mostly is LOT. I dont even mind picking Ryanair, my coworker even uses Wizz. And for longer flights, we usually also try to avoid lufthansa. On some routes its sadly not possible, Condor was usually our choice when there were alternatives (however with marabu that was a major f-up..).. I mean Lufthansa is kind of stuck in terminal 1. Its not bad, but I dont like FRA anyways. Just too much distance to cover from terminal to gates, crowded security.. We sell a lot of the arab carriers. Most for our cruise customers (we usually plan our own group booking with msc/costa/etc. as travel agency, one of us usually accompanies the groups on ship) but also tourists or connecting flights to thailand etc. It wouldnt be too easy to get to T3 from T1/train stations. But usually customers of that airlines wont care at all, because they dont arrive via public transport and AFAIK T3 will have parking buildings and own autobahn access, so it should be fine standalone. And if they can use it for modern lounges and push lufthansa to raise quality again.. Id love that!
Just today I had a customer going to african country, needing to buy multiple checked luggage pieces and Lufthansa was unable to help me. They didnt do it right, then they couldnt send me an invoice, then one guy told me I had to call a number which turned out isnt in service anymore while the last woman i talked to told me "you work in the same business, you shouldnt be mad, its not your problem" (What??!?! Its our job to help our customers to have a good journey!!! Be it as travel agent or airline staff working hotline!). I was so frustrated that, as a german located near FRA, I decided to call the english lufthansa hotline. And there finally some nice lady was able to simply do what I asked her to. That is such a shame! I avoid Lufthansa at all costs.

As I said many times, the only reason I fly LH so much is because they have the most amazing fleet worldwide (fleet, not cabin).
Etihad no premium they are rubbish
I’m still impressed that Lufthansa is even operating the a340 in an era dominated by stupendously high fuel prices. It has almost the same capacity as an a330-300 just greater range and the -300 model is called the hair dryer for a reason because of how absolutely underpowered its engines are, which is why it needed four of them in the first place because they were built to originally power the a320 family.
They are using the A340-300, A340-600 and the 747-400 because the 777 and 787 are delayed and these are the only airplanes for long haul they have. Another reason is that they have first class. The original plan was that these airplanes going to be retired after the Covid but due the reason I've already said they are using these older planes.
LH’s Service honestly reflects the current state of Germany in many regards. Sadly, this is where we are going, everything is getting worse compared to how it once was. Honestly sad to see. Let’s just hope it is getting better in the future. Sadly, I do not think so.
Apparently, they just recovered the second hot meal from Septemeber (a few days after my flight).

You have high expectations about the food. The snack is looking fine to me. Don’t expect a full lunch meal instead of a snack especially after having two full lunches. I am always amazed by the quantity of food you can est
You can be amazed by whatever you want.
The fact is that 1 warm meal is not enough ona 11h+ flight (I had 2 because I polite asked if they had any remaining once the service was finished). Then a 15g crackers in 9h is amazing. To put the cherry on the top, 1 sandwich. If you think this is a good service for this lenght, congrats. Enjoy it.

Videologs of the flight process from beginning to end is interesting.I enjoy it.Aircraft is quiet and notes are 👌.V clips of 3 seconds and changing is too short too fast and too much Before I connect comes next 3 second clip.Use camera lens and time for longer spells outside the window .it gives more flight feel+ experience I admit videologs like this let viewers fly different airlines,different planes and different destinations from and to different airports all over the world....thanks to these videologs using excellent camerawork and editing.Many thanks and hope you will adopt these suggestions made in good faith and taste.

The new Terminal 3 in Frankfurt is due to open around easter 2026. Terminal 2 will then be closed for major refurbishment works. I guess that all non Star Alliance Airlines from Terminal 2 will then divert to the new Terminal during that time. I also heard that the new Terminal will have an area dedicated to low cost airlines such as Ryanair.

Yes that´s what I heard too. Once T3 is open, all non Star Alliance carriers will move from T2 to T3. At that point T2 will be closed and completely refurbished and, once reopened, will be better integrated with T1 and both Terminals (1 and 2) will be dedicated to LH Group and Star Alliance. Not sure what Condor will do. They are not part of LH Group or Star but they are currently located at T1.
The first time I flew into Frankfurt was on New Year's Eve, 1982 on a Pan Am 747 from JFK. Wow, has the Flughaven changed over the years!

It was very nice to watch as always! I also dreamed to fly on A343 as it still exist nowadays;) BTW yes the service is downgraded sadly:( In July I've flown with LOT from Warsaw to LAX in eco, and first meal was more developed and during the second service there was a second hot meal again so the sandwich in LH is really surprising;) Cheers!

LOT still offers 2 hot meals? I will consider them for future flights in that case. The thing is that they oeprate the Boeing 787... which I always try to avoid because of the crews always blocking the windows in the dimm position... Did they dimm the windows remotely and block them on your flight?

Very nice video! We flew the Lufthansa A 340 in September MUC to LAX. It was the first time flying the A340 and I must say it was a very positive experience. I prefer this 2-4-2 configuration instead of the 3-3-3 config in the A350. For how long time do you think Lufthansa will continue to fly with the A340? If I have understood correctly, the fuel consumption is not so good compared to newer aircrafts.
I also prefer the 2-4-2 than the 3-3-3, but those seated in the middle seats on the A340 probably wouldn't say the same heheh
They are going to fly the A340 until there are enough 787 and 777. I think Lufthansa will fly the A340 probably 3-5 more years. The A340-600 a bit longer because of the First Class and they need First Class airplanes in Munich.

I once took my then-young children on Lufthansa to a holiday in the Middle East, with a stop in Frankfurt. Of the four flights, three were on the 747, and one was on the 340-300. Since I enjoy aviation, I looked out of the window on the takeoff. I wondered if the A340 was actually going to get off the ground. It finally did, after using up much of the long runway, and then seemed to barely climb. I have a good friend who's a captain on the A330, but not the 340; he said that the A340 is a good cruiser, but not a performance plane when it comes to takeoff and climb.
Yeah, that's what I heard as well: the A340 is one of the slowest airplanes to climb to cruise level, particularly on the first stages of climb hehe
But it's an amazing plane to fly! Specially the A340-600!
@@OnBoardHD Since you travel so much, I have an upcoming trip from Amsterdam thru Frankfurt to Newark. I haven’t connected through Frankfurt in many years, although the last time was a nightmare. Perhaps it has improved. Do you know if it’s difficult to transfer from Schengen to non-Schengen at Frankfurt? I flew through Milan recently, and there was extra security for all flights to the U.S. and Israel, for obvious reasons. I have 1hr 40 min for the connection.

Mi primer vuelo fue en un A340-300 de AirFrance de CCS-CDG. Asi que le tengo un cariño especial a este modelo de avión, lastima que varias aerolineas lo han retirado de la flota. Espero tener el chance de volver a volar en ellos.
