Gotta love how the guy immediately admit he's wrong the second Morty shows up not doubling down like a typical villain.
Yeah I fucking love that. There is something so refreshing of seeing someone just go "shit I was so wrong!" the second they are proven worng rather than the typical "No! It can't be true! You are a fake! Bla bla bla" bullshit. It is way more funny as well ofcourse.

I love how that dimension served as a wine cellar for rick, instead of creating his own hi-tech wine aging equipment.
Maybe artificially aged wine is no substitute if you're a discerning connoisseur.

I feel like the period between when they think they killed him and when he came back with high tech stuff is based on the time period between the first and second narnia movies where the protagonsits have become legends in Narnia and find their old castle in ruins

I see why Rick has so many enemies. Like Morty, he made a lot of mistakes (brining Hoovy out of his time, killing Jaythen and leaving the glove) when he first started exploring the cosmos. These mistakes were small out of context, but they had immense consequences due to the nature of his adventures. Morty has a whole society seeking revenge on him, big deal, Rick has entire Universes that want him dead.

It reminded me of Invincible's Flaxans, where time is similar to this pocket dimension that Rick and Morty have access to. But it's interesting to see how only seconds can go by and possibly decades or even centuries of history goes by in this rather than just a few days time jump in our heroes perspective.

Morty isn't necessarily becoming evil, as much as he's hardening to the true, gutwrenching horrors of the universe and mortality
The show is getting darker and darker with each episode. First, Morty was juxtaposition of Rick, but he's becoming like him more and more. I guess that's the toll for seeing all the multiverse has to offer.

Once Morty showed up he reignited their belief of an immortal demon child that randomly walks through a magic doorway to cause harm to them, in turn him keeping his legend alive

One of my favourite episodes so far. It has great scifi story and shows Morty's evolution.
This is why I don't understand Morty breaking up with planetina. He leveled an entire empire over a bottle of wine twice lol. Sent them back to the stone age.

I honestly feel sorry for Morty, you can see his adventures with Rick affect him badly and he gets more and more aggressive with each season
True! And I think that it might be one of Rick's goals (or that he just does not care about Morty's mental health). Case in point: at the end of the purging episode, Rick tells Morty that his blood thirst that he displayed in the episode was caused by a candy he ate, which allegedly contained "pergeanol", which basically drives you nuts. But that was a lie, cause we saw that the "pergeanol free" declaration on the candys packaging.

I think he was Rick's original Morty and the same thing happened to him but on a faster scale since he was under Rick's influence since birth and this Morty is only for a few years but you can see the transformation so I think Rick is going to realise what is happening and leaves for another version of his family.
Maybe all Morty's that achieve a certain number of XP points morphs into an Evil Morty?

I must say, that after watching 5x01, Im most in agreement with op, that it might make more sense if evil Morty is our Morty, but from the future when he has become so desensitized to all of the crap happening to him that he has become as cynical as Rick, but without feeling any of the emotional pain Rick does, as he has learned to stop caring. If that were true, in a way him traveling back in time to mess with Rick from now might make sense, since maybe "messing with time travel" is his way of trumping Rick, in that we know Sanchez has a box labeled "Time Travel Stuff", but he isnt willing to "mess with it". Couple that with the fact Morty might think he has lost Jessica forever, and the thought of that might Also drive him insane, so... idk - just my two scents...

This is my favorite episode, it's literally Morty's story wrapped up from season 1 til this point in his life, he could've died tomorrow and you would've understood the essential essence of Morty

I don't think that's it tho, I think he's just turning more apathetic. Evil would be wanting to cause harm but it's more rick-like to stop caring. He's seen so much death and genocide that at one point he just realised there isn't exactly much consequence or meaning to killing, so he literally doesn't give a shit.

That's actually what's really clever about this clip. Morty is not the moustache twirling, 'lies are my power, listen to my tragic backstory' Psuedo-Satanic sorcerer that we also see in this scene. He's just powerful, petty, and doesn't believe those people hold any value, so he's willing to kill them all for a couple of bottles of wine. Bottles that were only put there so that the other powerful, and petty person on the show could save a few bucks by aging some cheap swill.

To be honest I'm impressed they were able to create a solid foundation for a more technologically advanced society based on a single gauntlet even with centuries worth of time, granted the magic they had access to likely helped but it's still pretty neat.
Imagine if someone right now phased onto our earth and dropped a high tech secret centuries, maybe even a millenia ahead of our time. Maybe something like the secret to terraforming, imagine how advanced we could become in a hundred or two hundred years. Mars could be colonised in a decade if something like that happened, so I wouldn't really call it far-fetched for the society to advance so far.

I mean morty tried peace and they tried to kill him. No idea what people expect of him exactly.
The most clever tiny detail I found is the snouts of the civilization slowly shrank as time went on, showing their evolution. You can see their depictions of Morty on their banners change to fit the times but their biology did too which is a really cool attention to detail.
