There's a serious difference between impact drivers and impact wrenches. As powerful as the drivers are, a dedicated wrench is on another level.

@@not-a-raccoon I watched it and forgot about it until I read his comment but it inspired me to buy a m12 fuel stubby 3/8 and buy an adapter for 1/4 hex chuck to use my 5/16 steel self tappers for the different impact rate with relatively same rpm. It drills and impacts maybe 5% faster than my 20v dewalt dcf885 that outperforms any other impact driver in my field of work. The m12 gets about 80-90% battery life of the 20v amp for amp 2v2 and 4v4 so when I'm roofing for a long time I stick with the 20v but for size/power the m12 blows it out of the water for ground or basket work

I have used Dewalt battery powered tools since the late 90s... I still have those same tools to this day. I used them for my job (say at least 2 to 3 hours of use each day for 10 years)... Just replaced or rebuilt the battery packs and brushes as they wore out. Of course I have "upgraded" to the newer brushless tools, but the original ones I bought in the 90s are still in working order.

I totally understand your line of reasoning. Even on semi trucks i rarely need full send that a high torque 1/2 puts out but my bit driver just does not cut it sometimes. The 3/8 guns are a nice middle ground. I went with the “full size” 3/8th but many times i wish i had the stubby.

Dewalt just came out with the DCF891, which outperforms evey mid-torque on the market right now.
It looks similar to the 894, but puts out heaps more power for a similar price and size
Of course, this will do a lot of what you need it to. But that 891 brings a ton of power for the midsize category. I think its comparable to the big 1/2 Dewalt you have, in a smaller form factor.

This is the one I'm getting for my son for his birthday, I got the Hilti myself because I need the service and there is NO other company that provides that kind of service. I once had a receptionist drive out into a field in the middle of dark winter (this is Sweden) the day before Christmas (because she was the only one there at that time, you know, office parties) to hand me my replacement tool. You just can't find another company that would provide that kind of service.
It also means the tool will damn near never break because when it does... It'll cost them and not me.

As a steel building guy who uses a dewalt dcf885 on a daily basis for 5/16 drive self tappers I found the m12 fuel stubby filled the gap perfectly where I can use my 3/4-7/8 deepwells to crank the subframe down and not snap all the adapters going into my hex chuck impact. Then I bought a 3/8 square to 1/4 hex chuck so I texted the m12 with the same 5/16 self tappers and it is just as good of a screw gun as the 20v dewalt with 80% of the battery life of the 20v amp for amp 2v2 and 4v4. Just not a fan of dewalt "compact" impacts. My m12 with a 2ah will fit in my big screwdriver slots

I had makita b4 but my carpal tunnel kicked in and I needed a battery grease gun and makita at the time did not make them. All my other tools I have found at pawn shops most still in the box and I bought 2 1/4 impact drivers as I am lazy so 1 has a 1/4 bit in it and the other has the bit driver in it. Got both brushless 1/2" impacts along with reciprocating saw, vacuum, and leaf blower. The leaf blower is so much nicer than using my air compressor to blow out the lifts.

Theres definatly room in this market for an impact wrench to have a torque potential coil, meaning, on initial start up a real heavy break turn, before getting into the regular 450Nm cyclic. I find that lacking the initial hard push, (like we do with our strongarms) the nut fights for longer than it needs to.

I still have the 1/2" brushless (very compact, stout as fk. 10/10) but a lot of the time it's just not needed. That being said, by the time you add the socket adapter bit you've got a loong boy. That's where the dedicated impact wrench really shines. Throw in some wobble extensions and the world is yours.
Unless you are working on BIG toys, the compacts like you got are the bees knees. I still haven't found a tractor bolt that my 1/2 inch makita wont remove or shear :-D

    • @QuasiRandomViewer
      @QuasiRandomViewer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@FunkFPV Its manual says pretty much the same thing, just with more words: "Timber Screw(TM) mode optimizes tool performance to help increase the speed of wood driving applications such as with lag bolts, lag screws and structural wood screws." Sure would be nice if they told you what it actually did!

DON'T YOU DIS my DCF809. I LOVE IT and use it every day! (It's great for taking apart dryers, furnaces, and other appliances, which I do daily. Too much torque to put them back together though, got to use a nut driver for that.)

Funny that I'm seeing this video just now. I'm a millwright and I run Milwaukee tools, I use my quarter inch driver and half inch impact religiously but lately I've been wondering if it would be worth picking up a 3/8 drive, might be nice to have something in between. I have a bit of an addiction with buying tools lol so I'm trying to get out of the habit of buying just to buy.

The 3/8th stubby is a miracle it's that good
There is no downside to getting one as it pays for itself within a couple weeks

I think with all the info between Torque Test, Project Farm, and AvE, you found your time saving and back saving, tool of wonders.

Does Bauer make one? I’m asking for a friend that uses 2x6’s for track skid steers. Cuz he doesn’t fit under them like he did 30lbs ago.

I buy dewalt because it is American owned and at least some of their products are not made in China.
    We need all american alternatives

How you getting on witn the stubby? I don't need one, I have the bigger one which suits all my needs, but eventually it'll wear out as everything does - you finding it comparable to the big one?
I feel like the stub has to have some short comings, you're either sacrificing motor size... Or little anvils or some shit...
Edit: ill make it clear, I'm a dewalt fan boy, all of my shit is dewalt... I just look at the stubby and think... Hmm... Maybe?
