Panasonic S1H Menu Settings Walkthrough

  • This is a Panasonic S1H menu walkthrough. It's a long video, but Ilook through all of the Panasonic S1H settings. If you're looking for specific tips for your Lumix S1H setup I don't go into that much detail here just because I want to give an overview of the entire Lumix S1H menu, but I'll make another video that offers my custom Panasonic S1H setup and give more specifics and details there.
    One of my big questions is if this camera is suitable for wedding filmmaking. Wedding film coach is focused on helping beginners get started with wedding videography and I definitely don't think the S1H is suitable for beginners. Even I was overwhelmed by the more exhaustive and sophisticated settings this camera offers.
    I hope this walkthrough is helpful to answer a few questions, and at least give you a headstart on setting up your own Lumix S1H if you want to get out and shooting with it asap. Thanks for watching. Have a great day!
    If you're thinking about picking up this camera, it would support the channel if you used my affiliate link. Thanks so much!

    Dude! You completely overlooked the timelapse menu at the end. It would be great to know what kind of intervalometre settings it has and if it shoots 6k timelapse which would be huge for recomposing in post.

    6:22 happens with DSLRs too. Canon's recent DSLRs from the 5Ds have an anti flicker mode. It's the simplest I have seen, just turn it on. It's not to stop the monitor from flickering, it's to avoid recording the flicker.

    Thank you for the video, but don't forget that this is a 6K capable camera. In fact that's it's main selling point. I think the 6K options become available in MOV mode. Perhaps you could create another video when you become familiar with that shooting mode. Cheers.

    • @WeddingFilmCoach
      @WeddingFilmCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you're exactly right. Selecting MOV really opens up all of the codec options. That was certainly a big blunder in this video. I ended up returning the camera. I've been too busy since I released these videos to upload a final thoughts video, but ultimately it boiled down to the autofocus for me. I think for most people that wouldn't be a huge issue, but my specific run and gun workflow with weddings really depends on dependable and fast autofocus. I think for anyone doing studio or scheduled shoots this camera would be an amazing asset. Cheers!

    I shoot MOV. and under record quality, I notice the 4K/60p/420/10-L, it shows as 200Mbps as supposed to 100Mbps in MP4 (at 17:09 in your video). What is your take on this difference in bit rate? Does it have effect of quality or video size ? Thanks.

      Hey Mark, thanks for stopping by the channel. I apologize, this was a miss on my part. I believe I had the video format set to MP4 as opposed to MOV, and that severely limited the recording options. Again, this was just an error on my part. I can't confirm any other settings right now because I don't have the camera any more, but you can probably trust some of the other videos out there. Best of luck to you.

    Do you recommend this camera over Sony A7 III or A7 R IV for video work only?

    • @WeddingFilmCoach
      @WeddingFilmCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gurmeet, thanks for stopping by the channel. I think the S1H has the potential to be a big step up for a lot of people. If you were thinking about transitioning from a dslr or mirrorless to cinema camera, this might be a good compromise to get excellent quality while saving some money. If you rely on autofocus and are typically in a fast paced run and gun situation, such as wedding filmmaking, I recommend the Sony a7iii above all else. But if you're doing more studio and scheduled shoots for commercials, then the S1H is going to give you a huge boost in quality (if it's in your budget). Hope that helps. Cheers!

    The S1H is a definitely a game changer for professional video production. The camera is really a full-blown 6K cinema camera in a mirrorless body that exceeds the capabilities of anything else in it’s class. For video, television, and film production I can confidently say it offers more bang for the buck of any video camera ever made. Here’s a link to my review of the camera and a trailer for a the 4-hour S1H master class I have produced that can help new owners get the best results with their camera. th-cam.com/video/GhZP14WVCn0/w-d-xo.html

    I am not sure I understand from your description what pixel-by-pixel means

    • @WeddingFilmCoach
      @WeddingFilmCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bogdan, thanks for stopping by the channel. Yes, I agree it was confusing. I read the description from the manual and I am still not exactly sure what it means. However, this option effectively gives you more of a crop. So it goes from full frame, to super 35, to pixel/pixel. Again, I'm not real sure exactly what it means, but it will give you more of a cropped image. I'll try to do some more research to get a better technical understanding of it.

    • @BogdanSorlea
      @BogdanSorlea 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WeddingFilmCoach I was assuming pixel-by-pixel is the opposite of pixel binning. Pixel binning is when you have a sensor of larger resolution than the end resolution, so then you combine the values of adjacent sensor pixels to form the value of the end pixel. For example, if you had a 4K sensor FF and shot in 2K (1080p), then with pixel binning every 2 pixels horizontally and 2 pixels vertically would be used to compute the value of each resulting pixel, hence obtaining a 2K image from the entire sensor surface. In contrast, pixel-by-pixel would then mean capturing only the pixels equaling the end resolution, starting from the sensor's center, resulting (in this case) to a 2x crop. But since I don't know what the manual says (I can't seem to find it online), my interpretation could be off

    • @WeddingFilmCoach
