    At 7:45 you said it so well when you said that driving in the UK is very challenging. Personally, I find it shocking that the UK government allows anyone who has a foreign licence to drive on the roads on day one when they arrive without any form of vetting. At a minimum they should require everyone to study and pass the Theory Test before they can drive. At least they would know the driving rules and how to keep everyone safe on the roads. Also, it could lower the cost of insurance if people have actually taken the Theory Test to gain the knowledge.
    For me safety is paramount and I worry a great deal when people are driving and yet they don't even know how to use a roundabout. Some people have never ever seen a zebra crossing which puts pedestrians in grave danger. Someone mentioned that in Canada you have to take their own test before you can drive there and I think they've got it right! I understand that some people's jobs depend on them being able to drive, but still, safety should come first.

      @@irenekhumalo8864 Thanks for that comment. To put it into perspective, I trained to drive in London and passed my driving test in London about 20 years ago. But even today as a veteran I still find it challenging to drive in England. The only good thing I have on my side is knowing the rules of the Highway Code.

      The requirement to pass the theory test at least should be a must. It is really quick and easy to do (preparation and completion), and it is the language of the road.

All they are interested in is retaining power but they can’t rule and driving posh cars at the expense of the taxpayers. Please keep up the good work. Misleading title and misleading narrative. For the record, Zimbabwe and South Africa are the only 2 African countries that can convert their licences in the UK. There is no ban on Zim licences in the UK. What has happened is simply more scrutiny of these licences because of a proliferation of fake licences being submitted as well as unqualified drivers who bribed VID inspectors to obtain licences without mastering driving. The third aspect as you rightly pointed out, is the practice of obtaining Class 2 driving licences as a way of avoiding the more demanding Class 4 liecence. These are the people who have been involved in serious traffic offences in the UK as they lack the requisite skill to drive on busy motorways and even on ordinary roads. They cant even parallel park.
    DVLA is doing what any responsible authority would do under the circumstances. The blame lies squarely with errant Zimbabweans engaging in fraudulent activities and thus tarnishing the image of Zimbabweans. Its not a government problem.
    To try to spin this as some political issue is simply disingenuous. Inspite of the political differences, Zimbabwe still remains one of the only 2 countries from the whole of Africa to be able to convert their licences in the UK.

    • @TafadzwaSimonSays
      @TafadzwaSimonSays  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Okay! Let’s go into your write up!
      1st Is the class 2 allowed for the use of small vehicles ? If you say Yes I will take you through the process of obtaining an equivalent license in the UK! You have to undergo the tests, which in essence is just like obtaining a whole new license, so basically, whether you have a class 2 or not, the cost can reach £3000 to get a truck driving job! Besides that most people going to the UK are not seeking truck driving jobs but basic licenses, making this a total ban!
      Secondly I implore you to give a call to DVLA and ask them why they’re no longer giving UK licenses back and you will be told 2 things
      1. Your government is not giving us any information about the ZW licenses, we cannot do anything about it except to only grant you a year of driving in the UK! If you’re found with the bad quality license, they have to verify with the authorities that they have termed uncooperative in the first place! What does this translate to?
      If you’re using semantics, then it’s a matter of semantics, they’ll not tell you that they have banned but in fact they have ! On the ground!
      On the political side, indeed if our country had sober political leaders, we wouldn’t be the only African country suffering from this problem! Do you know how many people rely on these licenses ? Then you say it’s disingenuous to point it to the leaders ?

The driving of some of the people who are coming now from Zimbabwe is appalling. Rhodesia time was good and strict with driving. Even in the 80s and 90s drivers licenses were much better than now. I am curious, Zimbabweans have been coming to the UK and peaceably converting their licences or getting licences in the UK for decades and going along nicely much like anyone else. Why the sudden issue? Is it because of the UK's desperation for workers and putting the unreasonable demand that people have drivers licences in order to get jobs/ visas, that they have unwittingly encouraged the push towards deviant, hurried methods, such as the buying of licences? In past years I knew people who took public transport to do care work until they saved up the money to take lessons and pass driver's tests. They usually went for the easiest licence to get, the automatic. Why is this new batch of Zimbabweans unable to do what so many before them managed to do? I am curious. There has to be a reason. I've even seen people complain about having to use public transport to take their children to school. What did you think life would be as an immigrant. Just automatically cushy the same as it was at home. If you expected that you should have immigrated as IT specialists or high earning finance professionals, not as careworkers. A careworker is a bottom of the barrel job anywhere you go in the world, so you should understand that making it in a country on that salary is going to be challenging, probably in all respects. I don't say this to be unkind, I say it to be realistic. It isn't everyone who can hussle and survive in all environments. If taking public transport in the cold, or having to pay to take a new licence, are serious problems for you, stay at home. Seriously, stay at home.

    Hi Taffy, the issue of Driver’s Licenses is very sad. I take it in two folds , One the DVLA is truly justified by requesting authenticity of the Zim Drivers License coz truly l have witnessed many people with Class 2 Driver’s Licenses who can’t drive a manual Class 4 vehicle and you wonder how such people got their licenses. Two like you said a whole country like Zimbabwe can not have a Government email with a gmail domain. Even individual companies in the UK have company domains so for the UK Govt it becomes doubtful that CVR email addresses are legit
