- The secret penance armor in #fearandhunger.
The armor is a powerful defensive relic, but once put on, it can't be taken off due to the spikes on the inside that bite into the wearer's flesh. The armor is based on the Berserker Armor from Kentaro Miura's #berserk series that Guts wears.

Fun fact: you are now immune to the Harvestman's one and only attack even if you fail the coin flip. Instead of the gameover cutscene you just get text that says “The Harvestman is confused by your impenetrable armor” and the battle continues

Its not that great, you can still lose your eyes and you cant use better items like the Yggaegetsu's amulet, the White Angel stone or the Black Witch stone, which are all pretty darn great.
you can still use other accesories tho, its just that you take 3 damage per turn (wich compared defensive bonuses that bad boy brings, its very worth it)
@@idkwhattonameopentosugge-ng6cm 3 damages is everything in this game considering the coin flips, the attack rolls on both the player characters and critters.
That little damage litterally can end a perfect S run, I know I had that with Ragnvaldr.
If I ever have to take the Penance Armor, it's definitly with Enki since he cant wear plate armor. It helps a lot against Sylvian. Or if you found yourself cought by the T-Rex from the Green Goo.
And even then, you can still use Necromancy and use your skellies as bait against Sylvian. You just need spells, and items buffs to trivialize the fight. The Penance Armor is an added insurance against her.

@theberserker6000 The coin flips kill you instantly anyway, so 3 damage is literally irrelevant, but you can use the salmonsnake soul regardless. If you wanted, you can also put the yggaegetsu amulet on a teammate like the Outlander & give him the purified eastern sword and the Gaunt armor. You can only have one of each so it'd be best if your teammates had good accessories and then you yourself had a synergistic one along with a weapon that wouldn't require a better accessory
And you know what this completely sealed off no nonsense helmet *doesn't* protect you from? The darn crows pecking your eyeballs
The real Fear and Hunger was the Fear from the bird Hunger we found along the way

Gaunt armor is better because you can still use all the talisman/rings
You can also give beckman to the tourcher, the girl being taken by the lord of flies, and some other of bekmans crew by getting it. The tourcher then gives you the key

The armor is actually based on the Cenobites from Hellraiser and Berserk's Berserker Armor.
What about Penance from Marvel?

Its not an ironmaiden made into an armor, just a hero who gets stronger through pain.
Fear and Hunger shares more similarity and inspiration from Hellraiser and Berserk, Marvel comics isnt even a primary source of inspiration to Orange to be quite frank.

@@zerrodefex Its still not an Iron Maiden Armor. Just because it has spikes. Iron Maiden Boxes specifically force the man or woman inside to not move or never be confortable and that includes places like the anus or genitalia.

Penance, formerly Speedball, has spikes inside his armor constantly stabbing him as penance for the incident with the New Warriors and Nitro causing a school to explode. He only “needs” the pain to activate his powers due to a mental block, it isnt the key to his powers. It is, in no other terms, a self imposed torture device lined with spikes. You’re playing semantics to avoid admitting this as a reference for some reason

You can also sell off the Prince, the guy hiding in the small room with the bed to Trotur using Talk! That actually makes him non hostile, but does block you off from the side quest of gathering the Prince's party.

If I remember it also prevents "violation" since it can't be removed in any way, and blindness from things like crow scratches because that can't get to your eyes.

Guts armor doesn't automatically hurt it just makes you fight longer regardless of broken bones. Fight until you die or finish your enemy off.

You forgot that the Penance Armor in the game is a reference to true to life Penance Armor and Iron Maidens. Both very real very spiky things.
Wasn't the iron maiden a made up thing tho, the outer shell was real but the guys who found it just added spikes to make it more hardcore... I think anyway

I believe that it's also a reference to Marvel's Penance superhero for the formerly known as speedball. Aside from the same name Pentence superpower is reliant on the feeling of pain which he inflicts upon himself using an armor littered with spikes which stab into his flesh.
I highly doubt that's the case. Sure, they may function in similar ways, but it just straight-up looks like it's a reference to an iron maiden which makes sense since it is in a torture chamber

You can also see in the video that they're only able to fight due to one very specific part numbing their crippling pain: the helmet has spikes too, stabbing a minimum of 16 spots in their brain.
It's a question of if they can remove the armour, or if they're merely too lobotomized to think to do so.
This feels way more like a reference to Penance the Marvel character. The armor even kinda resembles his suit

Fella... First of all, this armor merges with your body and you can't remove it, so I doubt anyone would wear such armor.

Seriously, I doubt anyone would survive with such armor for a long Time, and besides that we are yet to create armor that is capable of completely merging with any humans' body.

Not even that, because iron maiden never existed. It was a tourist attraction made by some museum staff to attract visitors. The nails were added long, long after the coffin was made.

No, Penance in marvel was supposed to visually evoke an iron maiden, this is completely unrelated to Penance from marvel and just also happens to use the Iron Maiden as visual inspiration

@@anguishedcarpetit's small 600 ish spikes in penance's suit for the 600 people that died in a explosion, he then went back to being speedball after killing the villan that caused the explosion. It's a fusion of gut's armor and speedball's suit but in guts case the armor forces any broken bones to not be broken by shoving in sharp shards while fighting, after that you have to not only deal with broken bones and bleeding, the suit might take over and make you fight everything in sight.

I like the idea that it doesn't really prevent limb loss, but that if you lose your limb in it, that limb won't really drop off. It'll just stay there, maybe even rot away while you're wearing it.
If someone pierces the armor to cut your arm off the armor probably falls off aswell

there's a book in the game wich talks about this, if i remember correctly it was designed for a special class of knights, when they had a risky mission where they would surely lose their lives they used those armours
For better survivability. Become abominable marriage, first form for higher health and damage before stepping in Penance Armor. Second form will not allow you to step inside so stick to first form. Thank me later ❤

I can't believe they referenced the character "Penance" from Marvel Comics. He gains power from experiencing pain, so he wears a costume that stabs him to make him stronger. What's even funnier is this character is the gritty edgy redesign of the character "Speedball" who's probably one of the most E tiers of E tier characters in all of human history.
