I wonder how many sales Lexus is expecting from this? Should do 5-7k a month, if the RX does 8k Back in the day, Lexus thought about doing something like this, with the HPX Concept, based off the Lexus GS, back in 2003, twenty years ago. It would've had the market before the Mercedes GLS. Somebody in the back office killed it, and lost their job, on that market miscalculation.
I know all manufacturers do it, but I hate it when you have to go to an upper trim level to get ventilated seats. Especially on a $56K vehicle. Acura does it as well making you get the MDX with technology to get them.
I am looking to buy one, but the turbo charge doesn’t convince me. The main issue here is the powertrain. In a few years we will see all these cars that went to the 4 cylinder turbo charged with problems. It is proven to be a better option. Future will tell. I don’t like the MDX because it is too small for me. You can barely fit 3 people in the second row on a longer trip. Maybe for the spacing, one would go with the Honda Pilot.
A suv this size deserves a V6. A turbo 4 banger doesn’t make sense. Less power but more torque is the only pro with this engine. I’ll pick an MDX over this. You get a bulletproof NA V6 plus you get acuras signature AWD system
There is only two drawbacks with the MDX is the slightly less space, and no touchscreen. But if these are deal breakers then the MDX could be a great option
that NA V6 is just as slow and boring to drive than the 4 cylinder turbo. The MDX type S is more fun but the TX500h destroys it, not only in size of the vehicle but being as fast or faster with way better gas mileage. Oh and that MDX would depreciate and be worthless off the lot.
The four-cylinder turbo is a big negative. The static horsepower may be there, but on the road the naturally aspirated, six cylinder would last longer and feel better.
My dream, and I'm probably alone in this, is that Lexus or Acura releases a minivan. I'd put money down on that in a heartbeat. Something with the packaging of an Odyssey and a high grade interior with a top flight stereo with lots of tech would be my dream product.
