We have one in premium trim same color as your tester model. It’s been a wonderful family and road trip car. Turbo engine has great power, easy to drive and comfortable on the highway.
Not even in the top 10 brands in reliability according to others like JD Power, I've read that it is reliable but some ratings say you need to expect to do more maintenance on Subaru than other brands.
Works for me. Had a Honda Element, Ridgeline, CRV, and Nissan Frontier. All had issues. The Ridgeline had major issues. Bought a used 2016 Crosstrek, and it has been fine.
It looks very good in this color. The front reminds me of a Kenworth or a Mack truck. I love the simplicity of the interior, the screen layout and the dashboard and I especially love the fact that it doesn't have any fake sounds pumped in.
Desperately needs a redesign to stay competitive and needs a hybrid too as not many 3 row SUVs are offered with a hybrid option and would increase its sales as its worst seller in its segment right now
I directly compared the Ascent with the Pilot. The Pilot was more expensive and had worse outward visibility, (the placement of their touchscreen on top of the dash was just awful.) The Ascent was much more comfortable, especially with the Onyx star tech interior upholstery.
My family has a 2022 ascent and I drive it sometimes, my friends love when I drive it because it’s very spacious and comfortable on the inside and it rides smooth. It’s a fantastic road trip car because of that very reason and also because the radar cruise and steering assist systems are great and significantly better than the radar system in my 21 Mazda 3. Also the speakers can get very loud and bassey and it’s surprisingly quick for what it it’s. Only complaint I have with driving is the brakes and steering are unnaturally light and sometimes it’s hard to drive it smoothly without jerking the wheel too hard or slamming the brakes accidentally as very little input will SLAM the brakes, but it’s all stuff you can get used to, it’s just jarring coming from my Mazda or my old crosstrek I had before that. Overall the ascent is a great car for big families or if you drive a lot of people very frequently, especially for the value it is we got ours brand new under 40k in 2022 in the middle of the shortage so it’s a great value for a 3 row
We have had our 2024 Ascent since January, and we have been enjoying it. Very nice to drive, and very reliable. I prefer the look of the new Pilot, but the Subaru was much more affordable and we are happy with it.
An option like wireless charging is just one of those things that happen to be in an Ascent if the dealer chooses to order some with it. Some come with extra floor mats, body side molding, splash guards, etc. Just a luck of the draw. It can be added as a dealer installed option by the customer when they buy it as well.
This Subaru has been around for around 7 years and engine specs haven't changed. An update in the engine bay should receive an update in the near future.
Pilot only offers automatic crash notification and response on Touring and Elite trims, Ascent has this standard on all models. Ascent third row is 1" wider than Pilot, while Pilot has 1" more depth behind third row. Ascent second row has more legroom, when you slide it forward to match Pilot's second row the third row legroom is the same. Pilot has more third row headroom, so that's an advantage if you have tall adults back there. Even without considering cost, we chose the Ascent; saving $15K over the Pilot (36K vs 51K) to get all the equipment we wanted made it even sweeter. 42K miles later our lifetime average is 25.3mpg, comparable to our last Odyssey and definitely better than the Pilot. We do hope Subaru adds a hybrid in the future.
I love this Subaru ascent and I mean it looks so killer when you have it in red and I love the fake fence. Without them you would just see too much red and that would not be so nice
Hmmm, let's have an Ascent Wilderness Edition with 10" of ground clearance, with a 300hp/300lbs/ft of torque on a supped up 2.4l turbo mated to a... 8-speed auto-gear box with electronic rear locking diff. I would trade my OBW in a blink of an eye!
They did, but the third row was virtually impossible even for children. And the gas tank was tiny, 16 gallons which with a 6 cylinder would burn through real quick
Put a turbo six in that bad boy, jettison the CVT in favor of a 6-speed manual. Oh and the Subaru logo automatically conjures up bad memories of Boulder, CO. No can do.
I have owned two Ascents but eventually went to a hybrid SUV (Highlander Hybrid). Now have a Rav4 Prime and am averaging 63 mpgs over a year of mixed driving with a ton of highway miles in there. Gas mileage is rough with these Ascents, especially if you are driving in hills a lot or on short trips around town. Plan on 15-16 mpgs in cold weather. What is the advantage of a turbo 4 cylinder over a 6 cylinder if there is no appreciable difference in average gas mileage? I really wish more car reviewers would look at these cars in cold weather- that is where a lot of the negative qualities of a car become apparent. The CVT shifting of these Subarus for example is much more jerky and awkward at cold temps IMO. And if you are engaging the turbo a lot on this car, it just blows through your gas tank, I swear you can see the needle move downward if you are greasing it up a hill or passing someone on the interstate.
When there are other nicer looking midsize to choose from don’t think I’d buy a Subaru if I had the money to spend. Having said that they def have some nice safety features though. But if I could only buy the Honda or this I’d buy this
The Forester bumps some Onyx while riding in the Onyx edition. Slam, da duh duh, da duh duh Let the boys be boys Slam, da duh duh, da duh duh Make noise b-boys
I got a tattoo of a butt on my butt - that is the joke of the day, thank you - thank you very much, remember to tip your waitress & bar staff. now here's the man of the hour, please give a big hand for Joe Raiti
It's not a fair comparison because 1. The price is a lot different 2. They are two different segments 3. Tesla currently doesn't have a proper 3 row suv.
Seems nicer on the inside than the outside (almost like two vehicles) as the outside is very plain and bland and covered in black plastic. Negative on the interior is the light headliner and having a CVT is also (cringe worthy).
Subaru needs to get on the HYBRID bandwagon! MPG MAN! I might buy an Ascent over a Toyota Grand Highlander... IF Subaru can get me 35 MPG on an Ascent! As far as incandescent lighting... VLEDs can hook you up with LED upgrades and the flasher upgrade to fix hyperflash for turn signals. I've had VLEDs LED tail/brake lights and turn signals on my 2015 Forester since 2015 and they are still working. Adds a premium look to any vehicle. GET RID OF INCENDESCENT lighting already!
You tell me this is mid-size ? now i´m missing the early 2000 when cars used to be the right size and more cooler... these cars today gotta too oversized, digital, touchier and boring... bring some cool old stuff to the channel Joe, what about some used car market content ?
Do not care for the engine on these , not very powerful and mpg not very good. Also really do not like Subarus vertical vents they always do on their vehicles.
No deal..... I really needed a 20th cup holder ...
I added a consul in the back between the bucket seats. Yep.. 2 more cup holders!!

275lbs/ft at 2000 rpm. It’s fast it has really grown on me, much better than the Palisade I had before. And when snow comes… AMAZING
Interesting that Consumer Reports names Subaru as #1 in reliability.

@Bowhunters6go8xz6x
Basic fluid changes and your golden... not sure why people blow that out of proportion
Not this model this is the least reliable model in Subaru line up
Works for me. Had a Honda Element, Ridgeline, CRV, and Nissan Frontier. All had issues. The Ridgeline had major issues. Bought a used 2016 Crosstrek, and it has been fine.

Bro even pilot doesn't have a hybrid.
Well, Joe, i need a new suv. The one i have... blew up. It literally just blew up 😂😂😂😂
I like the color.

Hello mama
Why? It's reliable what else u want? Engine is good enough no upgrade needed except maybe a hybrid varient.
It has absolutely not been around for seven years. Why claim something that can so easily be disproven? Very strange.
I have a 22 ascent. I don’t feel like I am driving a big vehicle. It handles like a car.. in my opinion it handles better than a car.

They should have named it the "Bacdafucup!" edition.
😂😂😂 or "Throw your gunz in the air"
I love this Subaru ascent and I mean it looks so killer when you have it in red and I love the fake fence. Without them you would just see too much red and that would not be so nice
Honda Pilot 285 hp max. I just picked up a new 2025 Pilot Trailsport as always your video info helped me make that final decision, thanks👍
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍

Love the color with black wheels!
Great review and I am really like this vehicle.
Why not use Sport mode, then talk about I & S modes? Did they remove them???
are the Subaru CVT reliable ???
Yes, the fluid should be changed every 30k miles but Subaru manufacturers their own CVT, it's a great transmission.
@@josuegonzalez3660 they should let you, but if you change the fluid before 100k miles it voids the warranty...
10:38 is for my nail clipper. In case I break a nail driving.
You ready, I'm ready. On throttle!
Odd, my parents have a 2022 Ascent and it has wireless charging. Its an option you can install. Its even on the website.
If they put all-terrain tires on the Ascent, they could call it a Wilderness.
Rumour is they are. But LP Adventure has been doing a suspension lift for Subarus for years and has one available for the Ascent
Love the car
I love my ‘21 STI.
They have totally reinvented the Subaru ascent but joe didn’t Subaru had an suv call the B9 Tribeca
They did, but the third row was virtually impossible even for children. And the gas tank was tiny, 16 gallons which with a 6 cylinder would burn through real quick

You can buy the wireless charger for around 220. Easy to install.
Joe, like to see you do a video on the Lucid Air Sapphire! Think you can do that?
Real functional exhaust tips, nice. Mazda CX90 engineers should copy it!!

nice looking suv ...
We need a 7 seat Subaru in Australia although this is pretty dated now
Joe, does the Accent come available with the Wilderness package?
At 4:41.....I wish all Subaru XT (Turbo) models had exposed dual exhaust
If only Subaru would abandon their infotainment system I would be back driving a Subaru today.
Not bad!
It needs an emergency modernized refresh outside and inside😢
❤this
Thanks for reviewing that Bentley for me

I don't see many of these auto manufacturers surviving with SUVs starting at about $50,000.
I bought my 2024 ascent onyx back in march for 42K. Cheaper than most in its class.
Subaru needs to get on the HYBRID bandwagon! MPG MAN! I might buy an Ascent over a Toyota Grand Highlander... IF Subaru can get me 35 MPG on an Ascent!

You have to pay extra for the LED option on these if I remember right when I did a build on their site
I thought it said Subaru Accent especially since this looks like an old Hyundai.
I'm so that Subaru doesn't sell Ascent in Japan.
Hybrid version of this or the Outback and I’m back in for 2026
damn another severe case of CVT...stay safe out there folks
I would love one of these with a manual!
If I saw this on the road and told me it was a 2012 model I'd believe you. Looks stuck in time
It's Subugly, But tow's 5k Pounds w/ 4Banger, Tint the window's, Don't Brag😂

Still no redesign for 2025?! That's a big Zonk! LOL!
I'll definitely go with the new Mazda CX-90.
CVT is no for me.
I’ll take Honda Pilot 😊
Do not care for the engine on these , not very powerful and mpg not very good. Also really do not like Subarus vertical vents they always do on their vehicles.
why dont all cars have wireless charging now? If you can get them from amazon about 20 bucks there's no reason for them not to be standard
🤎
*How does Subaru manage to consistently put out the absolute UGLIEST vehicles on the road?*
Because there are more ugly people on the road than good looking people like you.😜😜
Hmm... still outdated
i hate those ugly headlights
Subaru's largest vehicles so you get more ugly, bland, uninspiring driving but you do get to join the pompous club.
Hell no with that weird cvt. I drove a turbo Subaru with that cvt and the car acted weird.
No thank you!
Lambo looking wheels nice ride traffic is crazy everybody's driving especially those that can't
honda pilot all the way man.
