Don’t feel guilty. We know how difficult that is. It takes the effort of the whole world to put these guys to book.
All you could have done as ordinary citizens was protest and maybe chased him out of the country.
The whole government is usually owing the individuals in question. Look at the Guptas, now it’s Pattni.

@brandonmlotswe we Africans need to hold each other accountable. We should demand transparency and accountability from our leaders. Zimbabwean leaders are the ones that are squandering their resources for their own benefit. The Westerners or Chinese cannot run game in Africa without African leaders participating by being corrupt. We need to stop acting like victims and fight for what should be benefiting all of us.

Leftism/socialism destroyed our city for decades.

Our city had the most millionaires, most business world HQs,
highest worker wages, highest private home ownership.
We lived the American Dream but leftist policies looted the city wealth and innovation.

Not a sqweak from the SA gov. Why not if we sit with half the Zim population to feed, give medical care, SA schools are grossly over populated, non existent border control, the economy in the doldrums + the ruling party just ignores it. Why? Because there's too much to loose if they critisize the mess in Zim. SA Intel services probably know precisely how this all fits together.
The phala millions - just a few questions: where did the dollars come from? Why stash it in cushions + not in a safe or at least a more secure place? Who decided on the cushions; was it the owners personal money or not?

As ever, well said Professor Mandaza!
    Well, this is Deja vu.
The whole saga is pretty much reminiscent of the infamous Willowgate Scandal, but this time around, on a stack of steroids. And that's were similarities end. So of lessons learnt then, I bet this this lot must have scoffed at that lecture, probably scornfully laughed at the demise of Maurice Nyagumbo. So I'd say it's unreasonable, under this "unlimited tenureship", to build up some unlikely anticipation of anything close to the Sandura Commission.
The thing is shame is long cancelled from their lexicon.

We need to start asking why Africa has so many poor people, without blaming only white people- our leaders are corrupt and would sooner fill their own pockets than to let everyone thrive. We should take this as an opportunity to make our countries as great as the new Rwandan presidnet is doing for his country and citizens.

That said the silver lining for South Africa though at least for now is that there is still a relatively free press even the public broadcaster covers the opposition and stories that are not flattering for the ruining party are also covered. The opposition political parties are allowed to be robust & hold the government accountable without sleeping with the fishes or incarcerated. Chapter 9 institutions are relatively independent and so is the judiciary. The weakness of the African state given the history of colonialism and under investment in education and inequality is universal suffrage, there should be a qualified franchise for people to vote not just age. Giving everyone over a certain age a vote creates these pseudo democracies where the most disenfranchised are bribed with a t-shirt and packet of sugar & bags of promises of freebies every election cycle.

Hmmn! In 1985 when I visited the region, Zimbabwe was way ahead of Zambia, but I have been watching the decline of Zimbabwe to the point that cholera and hunger was ravishing the people. I was one of those who watched as the late Robert Nesta Marley, sang at the independence of Zimbabwe, he personally payed for the concert because the Zimbabweans did not have money to pay for his services. Today or rather since the independence of Zimbabwe they have shown scant regard for the Jamaican people or other African descendants who are languishing around the world. Then the final insult is African leaders are looting the commonwealth of Africa and sending our resources to Dubai among others. Is it okay for them to bleed the continent whilst calling the continent poor and the people needy, how is it this is still continuing even today? It is incredible, absolutely incredible.

When criminals gets to be bullish about looting and smuggling its symptomatic of a broken system lacking on institutional capacity and without distinct governing structures. In other countries, criminals will lose their loot, get incarcerated and heads roll but Alas this is Zimbabwe. The public has no power to force an action- we are passive. The only way out is through international lobbying otherwise there is no plan on taking real action. Yet you hear some right wing supporters pursuing the SANCTIONS mantra
