When I got back home, I met a lot of workers from Qatar who told me some funny stuffs about mistreatment. Maybe I misheard. Maybe Al Jazeera should investigate those claims with the same amount of journalistic integrity as this one. I am sure it would be most interesting.

if you see a picture of the island you will see it's in two parts northern and southern. The base is being built on the northern island and people will move to the southern part of the island which can easily host 250 people.
Do you really think India is going to push locals out of that island? Specially considering the biasedness of western media to magnify India's problems? The maximum that would happen is that the military base area would be fenced and the locals will be moved to the other parts of the island.

So, the locals aren't exactly keeping their island as they had it and they do feel like the current relocations may well lead to them being totally displaced. I don't think India is incapable of such a move, and after all they must have learnt something from 90 years of British occupation.

Not some heavily armed military fortress as what is seen in the US controlled Diego Garcia with B52 bombers, with even nuclear weapons are believed stored. The people living in Agalega are not forced to leave nor prevented from returning. About the improvement of economic conditions of the locals, there is a positive trend, as well as ensuring the natural environment is preserved and sustained. The proof is in the end result.

These military constructions were not approved by the Mauritian population. Worst of all it was sanctioned by a prime minister who wasn't even elected by the population. His father gave him the title of prime minister

But, I agree, the locals should be allowed to keep and remain on their island.
if you see a picture of the island you will see it's in two parts northern and southern. The base is being built on the northern island and people will move to the southern part of the island which can easily host 250 people.
Do you really think India is going to push locals out of that island? Specially considering the biasedness of western media to magnify India's problems? The maximum that would happen is that the military base area would be fenced and the locals will be moved to the other parts of the island.

So, the locals aren't exactly keeping their island as they had it and they do feel like the current relocations may well lead to them being totally displaced.
I don't think India is incapable of such a move, and after all they must have learnt something from 90 years of British occupation.

But, showing a few hundred people, we can't stop this multi million dollar project that will inturn ensure free trade in the Indian ocean and also, the millions of dollars that India will pay to Mauritius as rent every month, that will be used for the development of the country. Anyways, all basic facilities on the island like hospital, school old age homes- all will be built and maintained by Indians. With Indians on that island, the standard of living of the locals will only improve. And no, we did not learn anything from Brits. They are not role models to imitate. They were blood sucking drakulas who sucked out nearly 40 Trillion dollars out of India. And we will learn from them? Never.
