There are a lot of people asking how they can find watch meetups to attend. There’s no simple answer. Some of that is for security, some is because the watch community is digitally dispersed.
My suggestion is to join social media sites where conversations are happening, places like forums, Instagram, Reddit, and some private Facebook groups. You’ll need to show people in those groups that you’re trustworthy and weird but not too weird. This might take time, but in my experience finding a good community is worth the effort.
Sorry I don’t have an easy answer. When you’re finally attending those meetups you’ll be glad that finding them wasn’t simple.

Dude! That last comment you made encouraging people to attend these types of meetups even if they didn't have anything extravagant to share, was just heartwarming and delightful. Thank you for saying that!

I came across your channel by means of the Casio GW6900 and what a compelling video! I'm a proud owner of that watch and other affordable Seikos and Casios. Thank you for stating that it's not about the prestigious watches, but being at a watch meet is all that matters. Love your videos!

I'd have watched an hour of that! Really cool seeing the comps, especially the BB Pro and the 1675 ( ref #? I can't remember these) Also the two OG Explorers. Highlight of the show is the magnifier on that Cartier. That piece looks amazing. I need to get over my own reticence about "other people" and go to the local Red Bar. Thanks for the nudge Evan!

    • @Portland_Living_Life

1675 is the GMT Master, 1655 for the original Explorer II. The thickness difference between the BB Pro and Exp II was certainly striking!

What a cool watch video! So nice to see these watches so close up with good light. Definitely a lot of cool watches in there.
EDIT: The carbon offshore diver has been on my list and god is it beautiful. There is something about black on black luxury watches that combine carbon fiber, ceramic and titanium. What an absolute beast.

5:00 The 1016 appears larger due to the flatter beveled service crystal and dial layout / negative space. This style of crystal makes it appear larger , even next to another 1016 with a domed crystal.

Not to be whiny, but why is it whiny to point out that the BB Pro is too thick? Like, what makes that specific objection whiny? Is it because it's too common? You yourself said it's true, how can a true comment that's (presumably) not going to affect anyone's feeling be characterized in such a "moralistic" way? BTW I think it's too thick.

    • @YoureTerrific
      @YoureTerrific  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@YoureTerrific I'm not trying to be cynical, I enjoy inconsequential things as much as the next guy, but I would say that in the grand scheme of things any watch-related observation is gonna be inconsequential. If you mean it's inconsequential within the watch universe then I don't agree, unless I'm not getting your meaning. Do you think thickness is inconsequential in general? For this specific watch? Either way I don't agree, especially for a watch with such a thick side profile. It'd be a different thing if it was a thinner case flank with maybe a thicker glass or caseback, but as it is I find it quite awkward.

The newer Explorer II's look so boring next to their older equivalents. As a collection I think he Explorer II has just gotten worse and worse over the years IMO.
Funny though, I think the opposite of the Explorer I line...the modern variant has stayed much closer to the original and I think is just a much more refined offering that it's predecessors.
I own both and the Explorer II (Polar 2022) is on the chopping block in 2023, as are many of my Rolex. The only Rolex I might keep is the Explorer I. I think once you really start to get into watches you naturally start to move away from Rolex and other "high-street luxury" brands in general.

I am very fortunate to have a father with great taste. He bought that 1969 Explorer in this video in 1972 new (they weren't flying off the shelves back then). He wore it daily for 30 years and then gifted it to me 20 years ago. It's certainly the prize of my collection and will go to my son some day!

How'd you even find a watch meet up? Facebook?

Rolex: White dial is okay. Too many cluttery indices on the black.
    Sharp Halios.
    Sweet Aqua Terra.
The crown on the Cartier is a silly deal breaker. Not to mention they are a mere jewelry company. Prefer de Santos, if required.
    Killer Direnzo.
    Grand Seiko: 'nuff said.
AP: Hideous and a study in garish overcompensation.
    Explorer: Yawn.

Really enjoyed seeing this! For anyone that thinks it looks fun, do a search for "RedBar," and you city name and see if you get a hit. These get-togethers are one of my favorite things to do. Give it a shot.

And if you don't find a RedBar in your city, then start one!!!
