They probably just shouldn't have called it the R7. The implication is that it would be another inline 4 supersport, and it ain't. Is it a decent cross plane twin? Yes. It's a fine bike, but calling it an R7 sort of seems dishonest in a way.
The motor belongs in the same bike it was designed to be in… the MT07 and it absolutely shines in that platform. The R7 has no place in the class it’s being marketed to fill. At the end of the day it’s got two wheels and if it makes you happy then whatever I guess.

The Yamaha R7: Your sister’s R1 That’s likely the intended demographic Yamaha was marketing this bike to. You can see this in some of the Yamaha marketing campaigns. The real hate likely stems from the fact this R7 is nothing like the original R7 (OW-02) back in ‘99/‘00. Everyone was hoping for a true successor to that track weapon.
Sorry for the rant to follow and the so vivid comment, no hate just an opinion, buuuut... It's the biggest DUD in the world, and not for the bike it self, but for what it represents. Yamaha stopped making the R6 and came up with the R7, people seem to forget to mention this little fact 🤔, which is the whole premise. Why call it R7? What relation does it have to the R (racing) series? NONE. So when Yamaha does this the of course should get all the hate it deserves along with the people that support it, and these people are usually new to the scene hence the simply don't know what it represents, hence why the never mention the R6. To understand the false in the logic listen to the comment in the video: "it looks like a crouch rocker it looks really cool" so you like the super sport but don't get a super sport LOL, no commitment, sorry I can not support this mentality. Its like me getting an R1 and taking the fairings off and putting a chopper steering on it and then saying... "It looks like a chopper its awesome". Each bike represent something, LEARN AND RESPECT. It might seem dramatic but, this could possibly represent the end of racing bikes if more companies follow this approach of "low emission crap". I think it is part of this stupid attempt to make bikes behave like cars. And rider that have no idea that stand behind this notion, makes me sad 😪
That’s quite the novel…you obviously didn’t watch the video. At 15:15 I specifically said the hate stems from this bike being the “replacement” for the R6…so I did realize and make that exact point. And yes the bike does look like a “crotch rocket”….thats not really a point you can negate…it’s not false logic, it’s just a fact. It’s not an issue of commitment, this bike simply checked a lot of boxes for me, much like it did for the tens of thousands of other people who bought R7s. Also saying it’s the end of racing is not only incorrect but also a strange point to make seeing as this bike has performed extremely well in the twins class which has been around since 2015 in Moto America…twin sport bikes isn’t anything new exactly. Did you have this same energy when Aprillia released the RS660 in 2020, or are you just part of the butt hurt crowd because they don’t make the R6 anymore? Thanks for the engagement on the video though! 😂

Most people cannot ride a R7 to its potential I know I can’t and I don’t care . I don’t ride to impress anyone I ride because I enjoy motorcycles. a lot talk a big game but I assure you they won’t put their money where their mouth is.
Egos equal pain at some point.
Just enjoy whatever you like and stay safe ✌🏻
you're excited for the r9 but have you seen what they did to the poor r99
Damn I didn’t even think about that 😞
They probably just shouldn't have called it the R7. The implication is that it would be another inline 4 supersport, and it ain't. Is it a decent cross plane twin? Yes. It's a fine bike, but calling it an R7 sort of seems dishonest in a way.
Sounds like it’s time for the XSR review 👀🏍️
I think you’re right 👀
The motor belongs in the same bike it was designed to be in… the MT07 and it absolutely shines in that platform. The R7 has no place in the class it’s being marketed to fill. At the end of the day it’s got two wheels and if it makes you happy then whatever I guess.
I think if Yamaha still made the R6 and this wasn’t poised as its “replacement”, nobody would make this argument. The market for middle weight, twin cylinder, full fairing bikes has only grown….Ninja 650, CFmoto 450ss, RS660, GSX-8R etc….makes complete sense that Yamaha would want to make something to compete in this class IMO
Y'all don't realize Yamaha took the championship away from Aprilia rs660 in Moto America twins cup class in 22 and 23! Very successful bike though the lil R7 !🎉🎉
On a tight twisty road , nothing will out run this bike , on strait hwy , thats a different story.👍
No doubt! I have no problem in the mountains with other bikes, she's just not a highway monster
Alot can outrun this bike on any road lol.
@@Arrow12212with the right rider you’re correct. My buddy can’t out run me in the twisties with his ZX10 but he also can’t push the bike as hard as I can on the R7, so it’s definitely dependent on the rider/bike combo
Nah most hated is def a gixxer all of them or bmws lol. For some reason they get all the hate, part of it might come to the owners but ye r7 isnt like but them gixxers and bmws
@@Arrow12212 the poor gixxer boys definitely get flamed a lot 😂
Honestly it gets hate cause they basically killed the r6 for more of a ninja 650 competor. Instead of a zx6r competer. If you like the bike you like the bike enjoy.
That’s definitely a large part of it. If they still made the R6 and the R7 was just a competitor for the RS660, Daytona 660, Ninja 650, etc then I would bet there wouldn’t be near as much hate for the R7
nobody killed the R6 except the customers! NOBODY Was buying the r6 this is the whole reason the R7 came into idea! they had to find a way to get sales UP! everyone was complaining & crying about the price of the R6 so it just sat on the showroom! now that its gone everyone is crying its gone! you cant have it both ways!
Love Yamaha, like your video, but the riding with one hand on your first bike on a public road? I know, it's tempting, and it looks cool and it's a bad example for other new riders. You may have the good reaction time to compensate if needed, but others may not. You may have influence on others that pick up on more than your words.
Its falacy to say you gonna get bored of a small cc bike. Ninja 400 will challenge even experienced riders, especially with some suspension and brake upgrades. The only thing that gets in the way of enjoying a small bike is one's ego... You can learn so much from it. At this comment is where I stop watching.
@@101BadBreath That’s certainly true in certain scenarios…especially on track. I’ll be the first to admit I can’t maximize this bikes potential on say, a track. But 99% of my riding is on the street. Most people can’t maximize the bike they own. Call it ego if you want, this bike gives more room to grow than say a Ninja 400. That’s part of why I stated I was trying to find a happy medium when looking. 18 year old me would want a liter bike, but I knew better than to start on one. 🤷🏼♂️
@@snake_bitten I have been riding since I was 12, I am 49 now. I have ridden almost every bike under the sun short of a MOTOGP bike...on and off the track Including bikes built for drag racing and enduro racing that ran on Avgas. I have ridden bikes clean across continents. If I was asked to have one bike that would meet my needs and that I could still learn something on for the street, I would choose a Ninja 400. If someone tells you that you or they will/have outgrown a ninja 400, unless they weigh 250lbs and are 6ft 6... They are lying.
@@101BadBreathSounds like you’re arguing that nobody NEEDS anything more than Ninja 400….I’ve driven hundreds of cars on the street and on the track. All the way from go-carts to cars with 1000hp. Nobody I know NEEDS more than a Prius…I think we will just have to agree to disagree. At no point in the video did I say “I NEEDED more than this bike” nor was that really the point of video at all. No skin off my back if someone on the internet wants to call it ego and not watch. You’re going to have a field day when you find thousands of TikTok 18 year olds on H2s/liter bikes 😂
@@snake_bitten @snake_bitten This has not got anything to do with needs, or cars, or tik tok content creators. The more you double down the more it becomes about your arrogance. Good Luck, you are going to need it with that shit attitude and chip on your shoulder.... You had a chance to redeem yourself and you failed because of your own pride and ego. GG.
No I am saying it's a fallacy that you will get bored with a low cc bike 😂 please keep up kid
The Yamaha R7: Your sister’s R1
That’s likely the intended demographic Yamaha was marketing this bike to. You can see this in some of the Yamaha marketing campaigns.
The real hate likely stems from the fact this R7 is nothing like the original R7 (OW-02) back in ‘99/‘00. Everyone was hoping for a true successor to that track weapon.
“Your sisters R1” got me 😂 also a fair point about this not being a great tribute to the OG R7.
