I had never seen those Japanese commercials man those were legendary and funny as hell! I appreciate you taking the time to provide a timeline, development information and details about the Fatal Fury games. Here in the US it just doesn't get enough love and gets often drowned out by the Street Fighter series so this is a real treat being a fan of the series and younger gamers should understand and learn the importance of Fatal Fury as well. 😎

Fatal Fury The Motion Picture is one of my favorites movies 😊 It was my introduction to Masami Obari and his works (even the H stuff) 😊 Not kidding, him and Go Nagai made me a fan of ecchi comedy and art. NSFW IS ART. People should stop saying that it isn't.
I was completely fine with the motion picture that we ended up getting but I would have loved to have seen what they scrapped where Mr Big was the main antagonist and we were going to have King and Eiji in there with a Ryo teaming up with Terry.
definitely one of my favorite fighters out of the earlier years of the NEO*GEO stuff! certainly felt like their version of SF2 turbo with the new characters and moves. also I do remember the anime movie. been many years but maybe I need to look it up again.
In snes i remember you can hold "a" button for 5 second to execute a special move. All character have 1 special moves that attach to the 5 second "a" button. And I like to use jubei for that. Coz his moves will be grappling moves. And he will grap even from far away like guile throw cheating moves. Lol So my jubei just jump up side and down sides while hold "a" button then release the button and opponent will eat my grappling special moves
Back in the days, we could rent games for extended period of time. I remember, 1 year, for my fathers summer, he rented FFSpecial for the whole week. I was REALLY good at video games. Like in all of my friends i was the best at fighting games. My dad sucked. But he asked me not to give him any chances. He wanted to learn and legit beat me. And so for 1 week, i taught him how to play. Bu the end of the week, he was able to beat me. Well, it wasnt for sure, but ue coyld really give me a run for my money. The only time i had quality time with my dad. I remember it to this day.
FFS was where I stepped in, I was at like a sports/physical rehab resort with my granma for a week or two one summer, I took a tennis course as I recall, but much better I remember that at the side of the lobby was a singular cabinet that I probably sunk more coins into than any other SNK machine at least 'till I found a Samurai Shodown 2 machine in an arcade I could take a bus to. lol
Small trivia. DATA EAST's *Fighter's History* is the first fighting game that has a guest character NOT Fatal Fury Special. The Final Boss of the game, Karnov, appeared before in an arcade game called KARNOV and after that he was doing cameos in other DATA EAST games. Fighter's History and Fatal Fury Special released the same year (1993). FH released months earlier than FFS Edit: A bit of justice for Fighter's History please. Thanks to that obscure game, the fighting game genre was saved. Thanks for everything DATA EAST 😢

I really don't want games to look pretty anymore. This game is exceptional because I understand snk tried to keep the original art style fatal fury one. I like the dirty gritty stamp looking bloodface portraits. Heck, can we get a post stamp made for these? Terry board is an American red white and blue? Lol

I saw a clip of Nagayo Chigusa from the time of this game's release.where she came to the ring in Gear similar to Krauser's with a small SNK flag on the back, was Nagayo part of the advertising campaign as well?
From what I remember there were always 2 arcades at the store. It was SFII and Wrestlefest at the start. After street fighter II they brought fatal fury but it wasn't popular enough so they brought street fighter II champion edition next to Wrestlefest. they brought MK in place of champion edition. Mk had a crowd at first and it died down. Then they brought World Heroes in the place of Wrestlefest and it had a big crowd. They then brought World Heroes 2 Jet and it was just as popular. Mk arcade was taken out and they brought Samurai Shodown. World Heroes 2 jet was replaced by MKII. Samurai shodown was replaced with KOF94. MKII was replaced by MK3 and Kof94 by Samurai shodown III. MK3 was replaced with ultimate mk3. After Samurai shodown III was replaced with X-Men: cota. Honestly World Heroes was more popular than fatal fury. I can't really say they brought another fatal fury after ff1. When ever they brought sequels it was bcuz the titles left money. Obviously mk brought the most money since they brought 4 arcades of it. Last arcades I remember were marvel superheroes and kof97.

Fatal Fury Special is my favorite in the Fatal Fury series (Real Bout Fatal Fury Special is a close second). But on the handhelds (Game Gear & Gameboy), it's the opposite for me. Real Bout Fatal Fury Special on the Gameboy is #1 with Fatal Fury Special on the Game Gear at #2. The spread on the handhelds isn't close though. I feel Real Bout Fatal Fury Special on the Gameboy is much better than Fatal Fury Special on the Game Gear. Both games are incredibly impressive 8-bit handheld conversions of the Neo-Geo originals.
I like Street Fighter II more than SNK fighters but I do love Terry and Geese and I admit I do love Fatal Fury 2 , Fatal Fury Special and last but not least Fatal Fury 3

I bought a complete SNES copy last year for the collection. Great fighter and people still play it through Fightcade.

Interesting, Data East also created the Double Dragon games or at least the creator worked there.
Still, Karnov was unplayable so he only partially counts.
Now I wish they had gone with the Mr Big story for the movie then the original villains

The lines really spoilt tge game as a snk fan i have to admit but the first time i saw FFS in the arcade my mind was blown,been a snk fan ever since.
Joe actually looks like Joe in the live movie, Andy looks like a porn actor and Terry looks like a homeless, sorry but he doesn’t look like Terry 😅
