Motivation, time, consistent work I think 12 months may be enough to learn the basics, but not to learn everything. I am very motivated and have spent several years learning French . I am nowhere near fluent but resources online do help a lot nowadays.

Mélangez-le avec un professeur qui est entièrement dévoué à ses élèves, qui emploie une méthode rigoureuse et efficace. Cette femme parle bien avec un bon accent. Ce n'est pas mal pour quelqu'un qui n'a suivi qu'un an de cours!
Have you looked at the Planète française website with Elsa ? I think it may be along similar lines. There is an independent structured learning option and then various classes but obviously that costs more because they have to hire teachers. Maybe wait for Chris to send you more details on his course?
