    I'm about to buy a W163 in a pristine state. I'm kind of expecting poor mileage, rough idle and all other sorts of cool stuff! Thanks for all the videos on these engines! Gonna be helpful in so many ways...

    for those attempting this, be careful with those PCV hoses. They are known to brittle up and break easily. It's probably a good idea to just plan to change the PCV hoses if you are going to remove your EGR valve.

    Thank you so much, this engine is difficult to access in MB Viano, simply no space. I've been having issues with it for 3 weeks. It just won't raise, and stalls.

    Thank you for posting this video. Much appreciated. I have a related question I was able to clean my EGR valve as you do here. However it was worn to the point where when I put carburetor cleaner in one side it would leak through to the other so there was no full sealing off of each chamber, even though the pintle and diaphragm move properly.
    Do you think this failure to seal fully in the EGR valve could cause excessive exhaust smoke which I primarily see when restarting the engine hot?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The EGR will never really have a complete seal. Leaking cleaning fluid through from one side to the other shouldn't be an issue . what colour is the exhaust smoke ?

    Here is a brief list of the OEM parts you can use on your SLK320 R170 to achieve additional power.
    M112 Upgrades
    C240/C320 Airbox: PN: A1120901501; this increases overall filter area by approximately 50%, Airbox volume by 35%, and increases intake tubes to 3", a 20% increase from stock
    M113 MAF: PN: A1130940048; The V8 MAF is a full 3" design that allows for increased flow. NOTE: You must swap out sensors and use only the housing of the V8.
    M113 Throttle Body: PN: A1131410125; The larger V8 TB is opened up to 74 mm and matches the inlet of the intake manifold perfectly.
    430/500 M113 Fuel Injectors: PN: A1130780249; These injectors are rated at 19 lbs/hr and are a great upgrade for a bolt on car.
    What do you think about doing that?

      fupabox That's good to know. My Ml from time to time ha felt as if holds back, not all the time. I haven't gotten to the spark plugs yet might need the center support bearing. I have heard that the center support bearing can make it feel at times like the vehicle is holding back when bad. also a faint howling noise.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The support bearing will be felt more under load , like uphill or while accelerating .. a rumbling that you can feel in the shift knob.

    Hi.
    Thanx for your video, it really helped me do my EGR valve today. Im also stuck with the cap thingy question you had at 12.46. Mine looks exactly the same and I started freaking out. So maybe it should be like that?

  • @yusuihang
    @yusuihang 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like the exhaust gas being recirculated is only from the passenger side exhaust bank? Or is EGR valve recirculating gas from a common exhaust manifold that feeds the exhaust gas into the two tailpipes?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EGR is only used to regulate the temperature in the combustion chamber so it doesn't need to come from both sides of the exhaust manifold..it does recirculate exhaust gasses , but not to completely reburn them.. that is the job of the catalytic converter . The EGR just mixes some exhaust gasses with the incoming fuel to reduce the temperature inside the combustion chamber when the ignition occurs.

    • @yusuihang
      @yusuihang 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it's only using the bank 1 exhaust? I ask because on my M112, I find that the bank 1 LTFT (long term fuel trim) is always 1.6% to 3.1% lower on bank 1 (passenger side) than for bank 2. (example: LTFT is 4.7% on bank 1, but 7.8% on bank 2). I'm wondering if I might have some exhaust back pressure that the EGR path on bank 1 may help alleviate, resulting in lower fuel trim adjustment for that bank. Not sure if my thoughts make sense. If it does, please let me know if you have any insights on this. Thanks.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is possible, although the O2 sensors should make up for it, but if an O2 sensor is getting weak it may not compensate completely..Cleaning the EGR can't hurt, and only takes about an hour.. Let me know if it makes a difference , I's a great question

    • @yusuihang
      @yusuihang 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I may be getting some backpressure from bad rear cats on both sides. Did temp gun test on them, and I hear rattling. Car still running fine, though. Had changed bank 2 pre-cat O2 sensor because of voltage range issue with sensor--had pending error code--that I could see with scanner. Now, both pre-cat O2 sensors look OK when I check waveforms on scanner. Will think about cleaning EGR--and throttle body--but probably take care of cats first. I'm not looking forward to working in space where EGR valve and throttle body are. And I'm worried about things breaking back there. Thanks for your videos!

    This is a unrelated question but here goes.. Okay guys today I was at the wrecking yard and came across a w220 s55 amg with its full quad exhaust still intact. They want FORTY BUCKS for the full system! I'm picking it up tomorrow to either sale or......put it on my 2002 W203 c320? Lol My question is, is it possible to put it on the c320? Obviously I'll need to modify the spare tire well, I don't use it because it didn't have a spare when I bought it and also use some exhaust adapters to meet the front section with the back section...but is it possible to basically "plug and play" ? The have a similar body style except for the front end. Also can I mount the side skirts as well as the rear bumper? Thank you so much for your advice in advance!!

      PS: on SOME MB models like w210 etc.
      w163 (MLs) dont have hood up button, you must transfer hood strut to secondary hood up knobs.
      Takes 2 people but mandatory if working near rear of engine.
      I say that cause he's fixing this on w163 - ML320

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey there man hope its getting warm up theya in Canada! Anyway the Berkshire potholes snapped my lower right front control arm at the ball joint. While doing 45. Jammed the tire up and in but new fender new arm new ball joint and....new control arm bolts. Is there a magic camber adjusting bolt I should worry about getting at this point 200k? Or ebay or grade 8 that fit? I am going to cut the old CA out those nuts arent coming off. I'm sure that there is a video somewhere though...LOL. I put in an led to remind me my lights are on in the daytime,,the funny thing was when I touched live 12v putting it in the buzzer would go off. Oh well you that I need the camber bolts? I am thinking about body side moulding kit too the back of the wheel inner got crunched in and will require about a gallon of bondo ! Rock on !
