I like how in the beginning of the episode Asami mentions how it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission and then at the end of the episode when she finds out her father is an equalist, he asks Asami to forgive him.
Fun fact: Asami was originally supposed to be an Equalist spy that would use Mako to get close to Korra. Bryke later changed it because she became a compelling character to them. I for one loved it, because I grew to like Asami before this episode and it wasn't until this episode where she won me over with her character overall. Turning against her dad, her last living family, for a group of people she didn't know all that well yet took courage. Let's be real, she could've easily sided with her dad but she didn't. Despite a firebender killing her mom, Asami was not blinded by hate and vengeance. She still knew right from wrong and what her dad was doing was wrong.
Yep! As they were writing Asami, they liked the way she interacted with Korra and the others, so they realized how much better she would work as one of the good guys. Also, I agree wholeheartedly, this episode mademe love Asami so freaking much!
I dont know.. i found asami as too perfect (the only thing missing is yo give her bending). Her personality is really mellow compared with bolin and korra, like when shes stubborn it doesnt felt really stubborn, when shes being kind it came across just as polite. Idk even mako seems more compelling than her. But they (mako and asami) did seems developed on book 4 but sadly the writer dont have any idea what to do with bolin.

THIS EPISODE RIGHT HERE.... This is where Asami officially became my favorite character in the entire series, with Korra herself, being a close second! She lost her mom at a young age, and her father was the only family she had left. However, despite this, she still turned her back on him and selflessly sacrificed her entire way of life, just because she couldn't accept what he had secretly been doing! Also, she's one hell of a driver and she can kick some serious ass. Asami even triggered MORE character development for Korra, by showing that she wasn't just some spoiled rich girl. Also, Korra realized that Asami needed Mako more that she did, so she has given up on pursuing him (or so it seems...)

I like how you noticed Tenzin’s bending is a bit more refined than Korra’s. Korra is a fantastic bender, but Tenzin utilizes the kind of bending seen in Avatar which is why there’s much more stances and pauses. So they do still HEAVILY utilize real martial arts in all the bending styles, but they’re just a little different now with a bit of boxing styles thrown in.

Somethings been on my mind lately. Would people see Avatar: The Last Air bender in a different light if they rewatched it after The Legend of Korra? I did this and, as a result, I better noticed the times that Aang was childish, stubborn, or wrong about something. I also see concepts like love triangles and emotional outbursts having about the same level of quality for either show. Maybe A: TLA had an advantage with it's episodic series acting as a mild reset button to certain traits and actions while LoK and its continuous series meant those moments would stick around for more then a single episode.
The Avatar I just find it both odd and a little annoying when a hater complains about an element that was in both shows to make one look worse then the other. Like they forgot it was in ATLA or their standards spiked specifically for the follow-up series to the point that the Last Airbender couldn't even hold up, if also applied. This isn't to say anyone that hates the show is irrational, but many do have flawed or unfair criticisms.
Looking back, season 1 was brilliant and I think some episodes of season 2 were my favourite of the series! But, season 3 and 4 just highlight how good this show could have been if Nickelodeon gave it the creators the resources and opportunity to plan out the series properly.

This was actually one of the better episodes of Book 1, because of how the Korra and Asami dynamic is written. Putting aside the fact that we don't know at this point if Asami is good or evil, up until this point Korra has been totally jealous of Asami and has not actually had a nice interaction with her. That all changes with the racetrack encounter. Yet immediately afterwards, Korra hears evidence of Hiroshi being involved with the Equalists, a situation that should result in her and Asami being enemies. But notably, Korra does not treat Asami like she's in league with the Equalists, nor does she treat her as an enemy. She tries to simply state the facts, but this is when Asami starts to act antagonistic and defends her father. This would normally be evidence that she is working with the equalists (because if she is loyal enough to defend him from accusations we know by the third act to be true, surely she must be in league with him somehow), but it brilliantly shows that she's a pure-hearted person because she believes that her father is a good man. That's why the ending is so good, because of how surprising yet perfect it is. Then we have the ending of Korra fully putting aside her jealousy and encouraging Mako to be there for Asami after her father is defeated, which also foreshadows the ending of Book 4, where she herself is there for Asami after her father dies.
It was this Korra watching sessioni was tired. I think we all literally just got in that night. But the next vidoe you see a clothes change im up and at it.
I like the fact that Rami Malek is in here because in Twilight he played a character, who literally could bend the four elements. He is the Avatar in the Twilight universe😂
Iirc, it was because the creators of the show ended up liking her so much. Considering the timeline for most projects of this size, all storyboards and episodes were likely completed upon the first episode released, let alone in time for changes to the entire show being made due to fan response.
The ending of the season was pretty rushed though, especially by a deus ex machina comes by to fix Korras problems in the end and the fact by season 2 all of the equalists stuff was just easily brushed off as if things are suddenly all hunky dory now with the non-benders when it's never that easy in real life.
Glad that they finally caught Rami Malek being Tahno before getting big with Mr.Robot. He's not the only person with a side role that becomes bigger after the show ended (Aubrey Plaza and JK Simmons) Next episode is pretty hype though.

I just wish they'd made it a little more clear that Amon stuck by his words despite his backstory, but they clarified in Book 4 that he did genuinely believe in equality for non-benders.
Tristan Neal Yes, absolutely. Conveniently solving everything at the last moment is definitely a cop out. Those being tied together into the backstory of Amon undermined anything compelling about his character and the movement. And no, telling the audience later on that he actually believed in equality instead of showing it in the season he is doesn't cut it. I recommend you watch "The Legend of Korra is Garbage and Here's Why"
I thought it was pretty clear. Tarrlok said that Amon truly believed in what he was saying, and it's easy to see where those ideas came from when you learn his backstory. I don't think further clarification was necessary. I didn't think his backstory undermined him being compelling as a character, for this reason. Also, consider the alternative. He really did get his ability from the spirits. That doesn't make any sense. Why would the spirits give some random guy this ability? I thought his backstory was great. As for the end, I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't out of nowhere, at least if you've watched ATLA, since we know Aang would be able to do that, even as a spirit. I have no issue whatsoever with the ending.
I was BEGGING for RANA to have faith in herself and search it up. I searched it and was like “Oh shit, it was Rami Malek. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF RANA!” And she did. She did. Despite all the naysayers and their mockery. There’s a life lesson in there.

I think the equalists took inspiration from Ty lee's ( Azula's old minion) technique for their Chi blocking . remember how she was even able to block Azula's Chi right before she hit Mai . I think Ty lee wasn't a bender now that i think of it

Personally I loved season one, season two was okay, they originally were only going to do the first season but Nickelodeon wanted more so season two got a rough start but it picked up a little at the second half of it. Seasons three and four are just freaking awesome! I love that Korra does develop well as a character, she can be a bit bratty but I think that's only because she was basically raised in a sports camp and didn't interact with many people beyond those who trained her and White Lotus members. Part of Aang's journey was accepting his destiny as the Avatar, while Korra's journey is learning to understand people.
You guys also talked over asami when she told Korra about her self defense classes which is why you were all surprised when she could fight. Talk less over dialogue please. Listen more
The whole being made out of pure platinum thing doesn't make any sense because Platinum is extremely rare. It would have made more sense to be made of aluminum which became mass produced in the early 20th century.

I feel that some of these comments below over exaggerate how good it really is saying that other seasons in particular will blow you away. They are great but I don’t want you guys to have the highest expectations like these people are making the show to meet or be as great. I try and keep an open mind but there are a lot of flaws and some I’m wiling to get past. Enjoy the show.

Well I rewatched ATLA again after Korra and I gotta say it just made me see more flaws in the Legend of Korra.

Yet immediately afterwards, Korra hears evidence of Hiroshi being involved with the Equalists, a situation that should result in her and Asami being enemies. But notably, Korra does not treat Asami like she's in league with the Equalists, nor does she treat her as an enemy. She tries to simply state the facts, but this is when Asami starts to act antagonistic and defends her father. This would normally be evidence that she is working with the equalists (because if she is loyal enough to defend him from accusations we know by the third act to be true, surely she must be in league with him somehow), but it brilliantly shows that she's a pure-hearted person because she believes that her father is a good man. That's why the ending is so good, because of how surprising yet perfect it is. Then we have the ending of Korra fully putting aside her jealousy and encouraging Mako to be there for Asami after her father is defeated, which also foreshadows the ending of Book 4, where she herself is there for Asami after her father dies.

Iirc, it was because the creators of the show ended up liking her so much. Considering the timeline for most projects of this size, all storyboards and episodes were likely completed upon the first episode released, let alone in time for changes to the entire show being made due to fan response.

The ending of the season was pretty rushed though, especially by a deus ex machina comes by to fix Korras problems in the end and the fact by season 2 all of the equalists stuff was just easily brushed off as if things are suddenly all hunky dory now with the non-benders when it's never that easy in real life.

I just wish they'd made it a little more clear that Amon stuck by his words despite his backstory, but they clarified in Book 4 that he did genuinely believe in equality for non-benders.
Tristan Neal Yes, absolutely. Conveniently solving everything at the last moment is definitely a cop out. Those being tied together into the backstory of Amon undermined anything compelling about his character and the movement. And no, telling the audience later on that he actually believed in equality instead of showing it in the season he is doesn't cut it. I recommend you watch "The Legend of Korra is Garbage and Here's Why"
I thought it was pretty clear. Tarrlok said that Amon truly believed in what he was saying, and it's easy to see where those ideas came from when you learn his backstory. I don't think further clarification was necessary.
I didn't think his backstory undermined him being compelling as a character, for this reason. Also, consider the alternative. He really did get his ability from the spirits. That doesn't make any sense. Why would the spirits give some random guy this ability? I thought his backstory was great.
As for the end, I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't out of nowhere, at least if you've watched ATLA, since we know Aang would be able to do that, even as a spirit.
I have no issue whatsoever with the ending.
Loved that we got to see Tenzin in action this time! Good reaction all around, looking forward to the next one.

Personally I loved season one, season two was okay, they originally were only going to do the first season but Nickelodeon wanted more so season two got a rough start but it picked up a little at the second half of it. Seasons three and four are just freaking awesome!
I love that Korra does develop well as a character, she can be a bit bratty but I think that's only because she was basically raised in a sports camp and didn't interact with many people beyond those who trained her and White Lotus members.
Part of Aang's journey was accepting his destiny as the Avatar, while Korra's journey is learning to understand people.

I feel that some of these comments below over exaggerate how good it really is saying that other seasons in particular will blow you away. They are great but I don’t want you guys to have the highest expectations like these people are making the show to meet or be as great. I try and keep an open mind but there are a lot of flaws and some I’m wiling to get past. Enjoy the show.
