10:30 in my headcanon, this is the last we see of the “careless Thomas”. Because before this you’d think Thomas would have learned after Seasons 1-4. But this is what causes him to change his ways when he realizes he’s gone too far. This takes place after Tramway Engines as air travel was ramping up in the 1960s.
It reminds me of Paul Vid’s Roly short that parodied The Incredible Hulk tv Show from the late 70’s-early 80’s and now I can hear Diesel saying “Diesel Smash!”
Props to this man for not only creating his own vision of the film but making it into reality. Many say how they would made it better if they could themselves, but only few actually go through with that.
Yeah, and the music makes things better. Especially at James apology to Diesel 10, and the steamies working with the Diesels, and the plane landing at the end. Well done, mate.
Honestly, Emily’s rant against Thomas here is what he needed in SLOTLT. Maybe from Duck to Thomas following the dynamite incident? I dunno, it just feels like Brenner intentionally backpedaled Thomas’s development so he could give him his biggest missteps ever. Topham’s honestly perfect in SLOTLT, though.

Man, if only Gullane or whoever ran Thomas in the early 2000’s made this as the finale of the classic era of Thomas, or even the finale of the TV series, this would’ve been the best finale of the model series. The end of Thomas and James’ arc, the end of the steam vs diesel arc, and above all things, the movie or special that had a grand end. You did a fantastic job on all the shorts that made a fantastic scene by scene mini film, and I could imagine if there was an entire script or added scenes in the special to make one big film. But anyways, this was fantastic, absolutely fantastic!
Fun bit of trivia That song was originally meant to be playing in the background of the original short as if on the station radio Wanted a song to distinguish this special was taking place in 2005
Its hilarious how everyone in the Hitt era forgot that the branchline sheds, where Thomas Toby and Percy usually reside, is right next to the roundhouse, not to mention the large carriage shed. Also what king of signalman would line a mainline train (well a train expected to only go 15 mph, diesel's top speed) into the sheds! Thankfully, due to the way you made the video, it can be interpreted that diesel came into the Tidmouth block far sooner than expected, which caught the signalman off guard, being lined into a siding, running through some old buffers or something, into the back of the roundhouse, with the long, heavy train piling up and also downing the 2 other sheds, which would fix most of the integral issues. Great job anyways Luke.
My favourite part was Diesel's little rant on steamies going up the hill, and the runaway afterwards. The Wallace & Gromit train chase music from The Wrong Trousers was the icing on the cake for me!
God I absolutely LOVE how the characters are written here. You absolutely NAIL the banter between engines, and the references don't feel shoved in like they very well could have. A GREAT job my good man!
That was great! I will say I had a good laugh when I heard Toxic by Britney Spears playing in the background at Knapford Station. I love how you got the tracks in the Re-Shorts. Since we are close to the 80th Anniversary of Thomas, I could see Trampy adapting all of your shorts and make a full-on movie based on your shorts.
Why couldn't the actual show make stories like that anymore?! That is what Calling All Engines should have been like! I really love how you've combined that film with James and the Diesel Engines in the Railway Series, giving both Thomas and James character development as well as making Emily more likeable.
I'm so sorry I missed this! I was working away on the next video, but I must say bravo! I really love the Thomas / James have a brother like dynamic, intresting seeing James take a larger role in the movie since HE was the one with the diesel issues in the railway series, MUCH better than the final movie IMO
The use of the Wallace & Gromit Train Chase Theme when the trucks push Diesel was a perfect choice of a runaway theme! Now I feel like adapting 2 of these shorts now; that and Very Cross-ed Lines! In all seriousness though Luke, very well done to you 😊❤
I think “Make a Man Outta You” from Mulan would have worked for the “teamwork and fixing the runway montage” Trust me I’d be singing along in a heartbeat.
Nice to see all re-shorts combined into one compilation! I love that extended part at the beginning where we actually get a full glimpse into Diesel crash into Tidmouth Sheds - I laughed so hard when the trucks said 'Smash Goes the Diesel!'
Luke, this is absolutely incredible! I absolutely love how you’ve taken the movie’s story and wrapped it around James and his underutilized arc with understanding diesels! Even with that aside, this overall is such a fantastic take on Calling All Engines! I love Thomas and Emily’s conversation too, I hate how Emily’s growth was retconned in the film so having her compensate with Thomas was beautiful to see. I also love the little bits of Edward saying goodbye to the sheds and Gordon losing his dome. Needless to say, this came out wonderfully and you did such an amazing job!
Bit of fun trivia for ya Was meant to have this song play in the background of the original 2nd short To tell the audience we're in the early 2000s as Calling All Engines takes place in 2005
The voice acting is fantastic, reminds me a lot of the style of dialogue in TUGS. Also that editing between 'pieces of' and 'shunting' was perfect - now that's how you do subtle adult humour in kid's media.
This is probably the best "fan film" someone in the community has ever made. Even without the visuals or a narrator, I could vividly imagine this story playing out and feel the weight of the scenes very much. You did an outstanding job with the dialogue, character voices, sound effects and music in the background to set the tone, suspense, or action of the scenes. Calling All Engines should've been this 100%, hope this gets more views!
Oh, I just got my creative juices pumping. Here's my partial rewrite of what the trucks would have sung while pushing Diesel if had they went with a full song sequence callback: The Airport waiting to be done, while working on it with ease'll, 'We'll show the world what we can do,' gaily boasts the Diesel. In and out he creeps about, like a big black weasel. But once the trucks start pushing back, 'Smash!' goes the Diesel.
When Sir Topham Hatt is scolding Thomas for causing trouble for Arry and Bert, the music somewhat sounds like a variant of Sir Topham Hatt’s theme mixed with “Funeral March of a Marionette”.
I absolutely loved this! It's fantastic! You're a great storyteller that understands how Thomas and Friends works. I do hope that one of these days you go ahead and finish the rest of this story and release it as your own complete fan-made movie. I'd say you've already tackled the hard parts, the most important scenes, including the whole end of the movie. Just these scenes, put together, make a run time of 39 minutes and 45 seconds. All thats really missing are your take on three opening scenes: an introduction of the Island of Sodor with Thomas and his friends, Sir Topham Hatt announcing the new airport being built with all the engines being excited, and Thomas and James' first trick on Arry and Bert. Those three scenes aliyng with a few small tie in scenes such as the steam engines all find other places to sleep and James having a nightmare about him and his friends all being scrapped and thats it. The movie would be complete with a run time of an hour and maybe a few extra minutes.
Hey, that's fitting, the soundtrack when James goes to the smelter's to find Diesel 10 is the theme from 9 when the Fabrication Machine is making the Winged Beast.
Very good! I adore James, and think that his arc here was so heartfelt and well done TT^TT Also I love that you used Phillip or Filmore's horns for Diesel 10 >u>

I just want to see someone film this whole movie in Trainz or something and give us a full movie of this write you made. If I’m being personally honest, I want to see someone do this with Magic Railroad.
Calling all engines would've been 100x better if the story was told like this, the characters are actually in character and these re-writes are actually more interesting than the actual movie, the movie was REALLY boring. Thank you for making all of these shorts
A great video! Love the extra exclusive shorts!! Very clever use of both editing and writing to turn a rather mediocre movie into something really good!
Nice compilation!! It feels like a Movie when you combine all the compilations. It’s accurate to the Trampy movies anyways.I’d like this better than the original movie LMAO.
I kinda wish there were some hartshorne music pieces I may have missed a small one but it’s okay cause after all this is just a video and not an actual production and if it were than you would know to but otherwise great job and while I do want it to feel close to the hit era I don’t mind the smart dialogue cause they feel like human conversations which is what I always wanted from Thomas but my one big complaint is how mr wind doesn’t play important part in the story he could’ve really helped give the engines advice I wish he had more episodes to himself but who knows if you rewrite misty island rescue or day of the diesels than maybe he could be in one of them
I love this adaption Great references and great seeing James get the lead Everyone was in character There is only 1 thing I don't like which is I wish you had kept the beefing sequence in
