I have seen heaps of people review the 191(which I was considering getting) and now the 221 came out. I will wait for the review to decide if it's worth getting. 😃
I just got one, and sent it back. I am not sure if it was just the particular one I had gotten, but the express keys would often double, or triple click when I would press it once. So if you could, while you are testing it, keep an eye out for express keys that don't like to work as they should, that would be awesome. I would l love to know if it was just my tablet or not.
Were you ever able to contact that guy from WACOM, Brian, who was interested in talking to you about their PR & "How to Save Wacom"? I'm really curious what was the outcome of that discussion or summary of it .
Nice to know there's options out there. I still think Wacom is the best and worth the price if you work professionally since you'll see a return on your investment.
Yeah if I could afford one I totally would get one but I'm glad they have competition as well as alternatives for those who can't afford something like the cintiqs
Thank You for doing this drawing monitor comparison video, Brad! Sums up well which models drawing monitors I really should be looking at and considering. Another super job by you!
As a testament to how long a tablet can last. My father had a Wacom Sapphire for years. They are no longer made. He gave it me back in 2009 and it was my first drawing tablet. It still works today very well, I just decided to upgrade about a year ago to a tablet with a monitor.
Very nice review, I know it's older but as someone browsing for a pen display but having only used Wacom in the past I find this super helpful. OMG! That tangent at 2:39 where the tree lines up with the backpack strap makes me want to rip my eyeballs out. To be fair tangents in general set my nerves a fire.
got the xp pen 16 and its freaking awesome! the oooonly downside i can think of is that the pen button cannot be customised to be set on ''pan'' but i talked to the devs and they are working on it, other than that it has zero flaws
By "pan" you mean the Display Toggle function? If so, it's great to hear they are working on it. I really miss that feature on my XP-PEN 16 - I'm used to placing panels on a secondary monitor to free up space for drawing on the tablet, then jump back and forth between the two screens. That little function makes my workflow faster.
By pan they mean being able to hold down a button and drag the pen to move the canvas around. If I remember correctly, you can only set the side buttons to clicks. No keyboard shortcuts.
Awesome picks & review!!! You still haven't update us on the other Wacom alternative you was going to surprise on an August TH-cam video post, you said alternating.Have a great day!
Just wanted to let anyone know, Xp-Pen came out with a Artist 22e Pro version. It’s the tablet that I’m currently using and have been for a few months. So far, I have absolutely no knocks against it!
Thanks for the honest, concise comparisons. Being a freelancer, I need to invest in a new art tablet/monitor. Have you found if you can rotate the XP-Pen 16 180 degrees, so the hot keys are on the right, and still use the stand? ? I'm left-handed, so having the hot keys on the left does me no good. Cheers!
the gt 191 was a tablet I was really interested in but immediately ruled out when i found that the cords fed through the bottom... BUT another artist on TH-cam showed how they used a command hook to tidy the cords a bit to one side and i think that would be a really good idea! that plus a monitor arm makes it the biggest one I'm considering right now.
I have a question for you guys, how do you keep your tablets in good conditions?like if your not using it ,where would you store it?how do you clean it if it ever gets stains on the screen and other things.
Really nice video. So, me, I will wait till they release an Artisul 22 , or whoever in the alternatives market produces a non-wobble, non jitter tablet-screen.... 16 to me is still small... 19 - 22 is great for solid full day illustration...And detailed work for large printed canvases. From what you say, unless is a very basic matter of just bigger size leaves more room for hand tremble, or multiplies/amplifies it somehow, it might most surely be a matter of the screen technology, the grid resolution or sth. Not the pen, which you already mentioned. A very interesting test would be trying it with the right settings with Clip Paint Studio. Is the tool I use professionally for inking (in my intuos 4 XL) literally anything (and Krita and others for painting), just because gives a better control over the lines (through stabilization and other settings, plus a very natural feel from default), and allows to filter out most wobbling in your tablet, be it screen based or regular ones (like my intuos). Indeed, is very good friend of cheapo tablets, thank to this. I could only imagine what joy must be inking with CPS using a Cintiq 27 QHD. :D I was very skeptic with the application. Mostly as I am not a Manga illustrator, and thought it'd be to limited to an specific world, the manga comic makers (which is fully professional but very different to what I do). No way, this thing works for everything. funnily, someone convinced me in a youtube video, can't remember the author's name (and indeed, video was beyond exceptional, it was a comparison with PS doing serious heavy work, but got finally convinced by a YT comment there, but was only months later that I purchased, is cheap, the Pro was all I needed, and really needed a jump in control, so , in speed, in the inking process), but it was a collection of tips and techniques VERY in the professional vein, stuff u would only know if worked very professionally with Adobe PS at companies with extreme crunch times, and crazy quality requirements, etc. I was very unhappy with the bazillion other applications used or tested, mostly tho almost every one out there allowed me to do the task, it was very time consuming, and that's my worse enemy. If you perform (the demo is fully functional I believe only can't save) a test (using the stabilization setting at Clip Paint Studio (Japanese version I believe is called yet Manga Studio), I set it with the Brush tool, specifically "India ink", using it with settings to my best fit, and "smooth" profile. Very importantly, with stabilization setting set at 19. This is very personal, and even indeed i vary this number from one style of illustration to another. I pencil as well in CPS, but with pencil, no stabilization, as I want fast lines sketching - inking is fast in 19, but sketching I want it at speed of light - ) using this software and specially the XP Pen 22 E, that would be key for a lot of people that - like me, hehe - have seen the big lot of advantages that one has. Anyway, is bad if a hardware comes flawed, as, if it's already correct by default , the stabilization will be possible to be set at lower value, giving you much more of a natural control and... MORE speed, which to me is crucial. But not forgetting the other benefit : more pleasure while drawing, and way less distraction for a technical issue, of course. So you focus more on actual drawing like you'd do in paper, and enjoy much more. One way or the other: I could not allow my self ever wobbly lines in my work... so, it's gotta be perfect lines by using software line stabilizers or brushes with the stabilization feature (I've tested all what is available for stabilization in commercial and free worlds, only CPS does convince me in a 90% (only inking in paper gets the 100% for me, for now), to a point is ready to production work, and a real effective solution, in my experience. And to me is not a hobby, neither a serious side activity, so is gotta be just like that, I don't have another option... )
Do you have other alternatives for those who can't order these tablets because 1. there is no shipping to their country? Im thinking about an iPad but im not an apple guy ...
Indeed true it is that pen displays are pretty expensive, but if there are people willing to spend over 500/600 euros for a phone i wonder where is the problem in buying a pen display for 500 euros. Ok you shouldnt be buying a pen display unless you want to get really serious about your artwork or getting into professional digital art, but try to get my point, I'm referring to the people who say they are too expensive and keep on complaining.
Haha, I like you. That's my philosophy too. If you want something good it's worth the investment if you're going to be drawing on one of these tablets every day.
I started doing digital art in February and I'm using a Wacom intuos. I have plans to save up for a display tablet but I want a cheap and good one. Should I get the XP Pen Art 16 or is there another one i should get?
PTXCeline Wacom is a hell lot more reliable, well built, and tuned with software. Lots of the other tablets that claim to be just as good usually sacrifice some parts that tablets good. The new Wacom Cintiq 16 is only 650 and I highly recommend it.
@@sydknee604 dude I'm a poor ass student from a middle income family. Am I supposed to pull that money out of my ass? If a cheap one works just as well then I might as well but it. That why videos like this talking about alternative exist
Hi Brad. Can you find out what the deal is with Artisul? If I should believe the reviews the D13 was the best Cintiq 13 HD alternative on the market for quite some time. There have been rumors about the Artisul D16, D22 for what feels like ages now. Maybe you can get some more info on what has been going on with those models. I am really looking forward to see how they compare to all the latest Cintiq alternatives.
Well, I'm not Brad but I settled on the Artisul D10 nine months ago, and for a while it worked okay, but will minor problems, and then I changed my desktop from mac to Windows and was faced with a multitude of problems with Windows support, and apparently windows support is a pretty big problem with the artisul Tablets in general. I'm actually considering Wacom now because I'm so fed up with my Artisul.
Very good reviews but is any places I can take my daughter to test out the products that you mentioned above. We are in Los Angeles. BTW my girl is 13, she been drawing for 4 years and just starting to get into digital art. Thanks.
hello Brad. I really like your reviews. For me color fidelity is the most important thing. In your opinion between xp-pen artist 16 pro, XP-Pen Artist 22E and Huion KAMVAS GT-221 Pro, which reproduces colors more faithfully? I would be oriented towards 16 Pro but I fear the screen could be too small. Thanks
I think artisul should come out with a 22 inch model, I feel like they'd be top of the line if they did. Huion came out with another tablet the gt 221 and it addresses the cord issue, by the time that came out though i already started financing a wacom cintiq bc I wasn't interested in fiddling with the color.
why didn’t you cover the gaomon which is (I think) the top reviewed tablet on your site? It seems you like it more than the rest yet it’s not in this video?
When using one of the 'cheaper/starter' pen displays that don't have extra features like the side buttons (or touch); what is a good solution for navigating around the drawing area? Zoom, pan, rotate, etc. I've seen some talk about those gaming keypad things from - I think Razer has one where you can program any button and it has a thumb stick. Is that the way to go or is there something else that may be better or cheaper? I'm currently just reaching wayyyyy to the side to use my keyboard, or to the other side to use the mouse and it's far from ideal. Thanks!
What about Surface pro as Cintiq alternative? I know you did a video on that and there are a lot of videos like that, but I want to buy Surface pro to be able to draw while I'm on my couch or work when I'm traveling, but primarily it should be my main professional art tool for kinda realistic drawing if that matters. So I wonder if a stationary 16-19 inch pen display is a better drawing experience than Surface.
Vlad Kostin i wouldn't get these alternatives unless you have some sort of desk to rest on. I have the XP-Pen Artist 16 and it's really good. It takes a while to start up, but I have had a surface pro beforehand which is very good. It was my primary device for a while. It's easy and portable. So i would recommend that if you want something small and compact go to the surface pro...if u want something large and nice to draw on get the alternatives on this list.
I am now hesitating between the XP-Pen Artist 16 and the Huion GT-191. The A16 has express keys but the GT-191 has better contrast (3000:1 against 1000:1) and, more important, more pressure levels (8192 against 2048). And they're the same price! Or shoul I take the 16 Pro ? Help.
i hope you read this and can help me out here: I am drawing as a hobby since many years now and hopefully for all the years to come! I also need a device for the starting of my study (not art related though - science and stuff) So i need to take notes and safe them fast, while also having the abilty to draw and use drawing programs... Do you have a tip on what device i should get?
Accuracy and the ability to use a stylus. Plus you get pressure sensitivity so if you want your lines to be thicker or apply more paint with a brush you can press harder on the stylus. Some laptops like Microsoft's Surface line comes with a stylus that works really well but most laptop touch screens aren't built for pen input.
Thank you. Another one: My dad bought a touchscreen laptop with pen last month. Would the laptop or PC works better without these extra functions with one of these tablets or would such a laptop be better?
And how about Linux drivers? Since I'm using Ubuntu the Wacom tablets are the less painful to use. Yes, they're also don't support Linux officially but there's a Open Source drivers that works pretty well and only missing some few functions.
It's a couple years old, I hope the release an update soon. I had a bad experience with the last 19" Ugee I used unfortunately, the viewing angles weren't good.
On a Cintiq 13HD or Huion GT Kamvas 191 needs to be connected to a Mac or can it be also connected to a Windows? What about the other alternatives, can it go on Windows, too? And does it need you to sign in a new account, or does it use the account on the mac that's used? AND... how long can it last, for like +10 years?
Hi guys I am a 3d artist I have been 3d modeling for 2 years and started sculpting for couple of months ago ... I am not doing anything professionally ( but I want too some time letter ) but I am not satisfied with my work the mouse lines are very jagged and I am not able to make smooth line ( especially circular ones ) with different levels of pressure ... I am thinking of buying a display tablet. So my question is should I buy one ? If I should then which one ? ( Note I can draw quite well on paper )
Another huge thing that always gets glazed over is (when they work correctly *cough*) Wacoms software/drivers ABSOLUTELY DEMOLISH all these other brands. Pretty much anything screen related to workflow, Wacom has covered even without hockey's on some of the Cintiq Pro line. Some of these companies have driver sets that still struggle with DUAL monitor setups! They ARE the dual monitor lol. But thanks for the rundown on the current swatch of secondary offerings to Wacom. Always curious to see what the comp is doing.
DEADOCTOPI Its the part about when it works correctly that actually helped my decision to get a Huion, I started with an $80 Huion tablet to try out the drivers, and while they are nore simple options wise, never having driver failures or having to reinstalll the drivers that seemingly uninstall themselves was worth it to me. Since then Ive upgraded to a Huion 191 To see if Id prefer a pen display and its been a quite pleasing experience.
Great video, congratulations, I was wondering if you've had the chance to try the new Xp-Pen 13.3 with passive pen? Hope you can enlighten your audience with some feedback on this new product, thak you very much.
The new Huion Pro 22" 8000+ levels of pressure, express keys and touch bar on both sides of the monitor and I believe texture screen... Looks like the best alternative right now at least for me...
MexicanBurrito 1080p on 22" screen in 2017? Really? Specially for drawing and art work you need the best resolution you can get. But that's just my opinion 😏
Yo do you like any by Riverview one of them like someone to someone and see how it works that’s all I’m saying you do it or do you got to buy one because my son loves to draw I was there we gave you want to do one on TH-cam
i want to make interactive classes videos , not for drawing ......... so which graphic tablet is suitable for this ??? and which tablet has the best pen response time on tablet ???? (that is zero lag between pen and screen when writing )
I have the XP-Pen Artist 16. It is portable enough and performs amazingly well!
I have the 15.6 pro version it's really reliable and I've had it for 2 years

Huion came out with another tablet the gt 221 and it addresses the cord issue, by the time that came out though i already started financing a wacom cintiq bc I wasn't interested in fiddling with the color.
Brad- You forgot to look at the new Huion GT-221 PRO 8192. Just came out a few weeks ago. This will be the big boss yo!
Just got one this week, review coming the first week of September :)
the number of people demandinf a huion 221 review make it look like they work for huion
can you please do a review on Huion pen display tablets? thanks
For example: Huion GT 221 pro? thanks
Just got the Huion 221, review should be up the first week of September :)
Hey . I am new to your channel and I love watching your videos ☺
Thanks!
Hey Brad! What in your mind would be the best Wacom alternative if I needed touchscreen capabilities as well as the active pen?
Will you do a review on the dell canvas?
I'm working on trying to get one. Right now I would put my chances at 75%
why didn’t you cover the gaomon which is (I think) the top reviewed tablet on your site?
It seems you like it more than the rest yet it’s not in this video?
It came out after I made this video :)
Wow! Brad great moves keep it up proud of you
What about the Huion GT-191 V2? Did they fix the cords position for example?
Wow I really appreciate this Brad XD
Thanks for ur great recommendations.
Do any of these use tilt? Such as might be used in Corel Painter? Great vid!
That's one thing almost none of these do. In fact, i don't think a single tablet on this list has tilt.
Brad Colbow okay, thank you
When using one of the 'cheaper/starter' pen displays that don't have extra features like the side buttons (or touch); what is a good solution for navigating around the drawing area? Zoom, pan, rotate, etc. I've seen some talk about those gaming keypad things from - I think Razer has one where you can program any button and it has a thumb stick. Is that the way to go or is there something else that may be better or cheaper?
I'm currently just reaching wayyyyy to the side to use my keyboard, or to the other side to use the mouse and it's far from ideal.
Thanks!
Hey brad, could you please review fresh paint on Microsoft surface 4
I assume XP pen artist 15.6 pro is at number 1 because of artist 15.6 pro basically being the new and improved version
artisul d13 is the best. i have it

Help.
i hope you read this and can help me out here:
I am drawing as a hobby since many years now and hopefully for all the years to come!
I also need a device for the starting of my study (not art related though - science and stuff)
So i need to take notes and safe them fast, while also having the abilty to draw and use drawing programs...
Do you have a tip on what device i should get?
new howl surface pro or iPad Pro for portability
With apple pencil
Can you use the xp-pen 22E on the xp-pen 15.6???
Why no Bosto Kingtee reviews?
i have an artisul d13, it's basically a cintiq 13 tbh
by the way, is huion kamvas not good enough as cintiq alternative? i just wonder since its new series of huion display tablet.
Yep, the Kamvas 19 was on this list.
Brad Colbow oh so gt191 is kamvas?, I think its the old 19 inches before.
Great voice. Nice cadence. Love the beard. Keep on doing these reviews that I care about!!!
O
Can I use a samsung galaxy as a monitor for my computer?
I have a question: What separate these tablets from a touchscreen monitor or laptop screen?
Accuracy and the ability to use a stylus. Plus you get pressure sensitivity so if you want your lines to be thicker or apply more paint with a brush you can press harder on the stylus. Some laptops like Microsoft's Surface line comes with a stylus that works really well but most laptop touch screens aren't built for pen input.
Thank you. Another one: My dad bought a touchscreen laptop with pen last month. Would the laptop or PC works better without these extra functions with one of these tablets or would such a laptop be better?
Are you making Alternative August 2018 episode?
XP PEN Artist 16 Pro... or.. Artisul D16?
And how about Linux drivers? Since I'm using Ubuntu the Wacom tablets are the less painful to use. Yes, they're also don't support Linux officially but there's a Open Source drivers that works pretty well and only missing some few functions.
hey brad, would you like to put up a membrane on the new surface pro?
Like a screen protector? I don't find that I need one, but I'm pretty careful with my Surface Pro.
Did drawing make some scratch on your surface pro 3? I wanna one membrane to protect my screen but worry about the drawing experience.
Hi could you please review the Parblo Coast13, Huion KAMVAS GT-156HD, and the Ugee HK1560 and compare it with the XP-Pen Artist16
Why is the Monoprice tablet not here?
xp-pen artist 16 pro or wacom cintiq 13hd? Please answer or make a test
Hey Brad what do you think of the Ugee 2150?
It's a couple years old, I hope the release an update soon. I had a bad experience with the last 19" Ugee I used unfortunately, the viewing angles weren't good.
I would love to hear an update.
really want it but unfortunately when it come to my country, their price become doubled than what it should to be. 😢
They can be connected to either windows or mac, they're basically a second monitor where you can draw.
Do they all have pen wobble? Until they can sort that out I think I'm stuck with Wacom.
wacon 16 inch has way more wobble than the xp pen, i dont even notice any wobble at all on the xp pen 16
( Note I can draw quite well on paper )
other bands definitely catching up to Wacom technology and for a fraction of the price ^^
Especially XP-Pen and Huion
Your numbers in the description are a little mixed up
Will you do this for 2018?
Also congrats on 60k =)
hey BRAD, time to make a new video on the list for 2018?
Great video, congratulations, I was wondering if you've had the chance to try the new Xp-Pen 13.3 with passive pen? Hope you can enlighten your audience with some feedback on this new product, thak you very much.
+Santiago Umaña just got it in the mail yesterday :)
what about the Artisul D16-15.6 or the xp pen 16 pro
They came out a few months after I made this video, I have them ranked on my website bradcolbow.com/reviews/wacom-cintiq-alternatives.html
thanks alot
This is completely unrelated to the video, but does he have like a white ring around his pupils? Looks pretty cool, but i might just be seeing things.
That's just the reflection from the lighting I'm using.
Are there any screen graphics tablets with built in software and are rechargable?
Yes, Here is a list of some of the ones I've tried bradcolbow.com/reviews/all-in-ones.html
Brad Colbow thank you for your reply sir im about to read it 😁
moral of the story: xp pen artist is a better alternative to wacom
The new Huion Pro 22" 8000+ levels of pressure, express keys and touch bar on both sides of the monitor and I believe texture screen... Looks like the best alternative right now at least for me...
That looks really good until you see the resolution. Ugh 😕
What's wrong with 1080p?
Seath Wolf I believe all the alternatives to Wacom are 1080p...
MexicanBurrito 1080p on 22" screen in 2017? Really? Specially for drawing and art work you need the best resolution you can get. But that's just my opinion 😏
Emmanuel Pedrosa unfortunately I believe you are right.
Artisul-D16 just got released. Has 94% adobe rgb. Can you review it? No one has reviewed it yet😐😐😐
+Nick Scarfino yep, should have one soon.
I wanna order it, you still haven't received one Brad ?
Yo do you like any by Riverview one of them like someone to someone and see how it works that’s all I’m saying you do it or do you got to buy one because my son loves to draw I was there we gave you want to do one on TH-cam
i want to make interactive classes videos , not for drawing ......... so which graphic tablet is suitable for this ??? and which tablet has the best pen response time on tablet ???? (that is zero lag between pen and screen when writing )
