I fondly remember your Dad. He was an amazing musician. Last saw him at the Czech Heritage Center in La Grange. Remember when him & Kaye got married. We came & stayed with y'all in Lawton for a couple of weeks. Your Dad was so so kind. I remember you, your brothers, & sister being so little & you banging those drums in the back off Ave N in Rosenberg. Very happy for your success. Jimmy & I are huge fans of Flamming Lips.
Steven rules!! I am lucky enough to call him a friend, he comes into my store and actually takes time to chit chat with me while he is shopping!! he is an amazing friendly and talented person, I'm his biggest fan!
Ask him about his days as a "stump the piano player" guy with his specialty being '70s rock. Tell him the guy he set on fire in the Texas Tavern sent you & the "happy clown" is watching...
@@evanisovich Don't worry, that #@!!$%! Drozd deserves it for the time he "flicked his Bic" at me from the Lollapalooza stage as a reminder of the time he set me on fire...
I love Steven. Genuinely. His innocence and honesty are the very unique and remarkable qualities that only few people truly possess. Qualities of a RARE form of humanity. Really. And that is not some guru, space mumbo-jumbo garbage, that is concentrated TRUTH. Take a gander folks, this is what it looks like. Steven exemplifies whats TRUE of a genius one might say. I make that statement, both loosely as well as tightly. However it might suit you. Either or- win/win Thank you for this post.
My Grandmother's maiden name was Drozd. I am glad that I found this video. I just wanted to confirm that he is Polish. Yes, clarinets, accordions Opa!!! Go PolKa
Wow, I used to play in the "Gil Baca Band", Vernon Drozd was the sax player; later went to the Monument Hill Rehab Center to visit him; play a few songs for the memories. Vernon used to talk about Steven.
We were best friends in 6th and 7th grade. I used to watch him play drums in his garage and he was awesome then. We listened to his brothers Thin Lizzy and Rush albums on repeat.
Was that where he was in Monster Zero? Apparently that band moved around and they changed members a lot. The only member I've found online didn't even know who he was. (I have a cassette Steven gave me around '91...)
Steve's Dad, Vernon is residing in LaGrange, Tx. I take the opportunity to talk to him (or let him talk to me) about his Saxaphone playing days. Wish I could have heard him play when he was still able to. Vernon also likes to tell us about his son, the great bass palyer.
I absolutely love this although if there is a full lenth video of the lecture that would be awesome!!! Also I love how i missed Wayne and Kliph at 0:14 .... and Its probably because Wayne looks like a College Professor and Kliph looks like a student!!!
I think you are right. They haven't exactly shied away from the fact that Steven went thru a heroin relapse at some point in the last few years. To my eyes, he looks like he might be high here.
Agree. He’s got circles under his eyes and he is beyond chatty. Don’t know him but seems like a socially awkward dude who needs the medication to face the crowd. Don’t get me wrong I love him but calling a spade a spade
His drug use was chronicled well in The Fearless Freaks documentary. He detoxed during the recording of Yoshimi. If you compare how he looks now to then, its pretty obvious he's doing better. He's always had those dark bags but he's gained some weight and seems to be a lot better, aesthetically. To your point, I've never seen or heard of an heroin addict that can recover and go back to having a glass of bourbon every night or whatever.
Def not heroin...his pupils arent pinned, his cheekbones arent sticking out, and there is colour in his skin. Remember that scene in fearless freaks, how it was in black and white?...theres a reason for that, its to hide the fact that he looked like a ghost!!! Coming from a fellow heroin addict(in recovery. 1 year sober) i know what to look for. Also his pupils arent saucers, so it aint stms either. My guess is just under sleep, or hungover... In closing, if i had to wager a guess, id say hes proly on suboxone, and has been for years...

I love how Stephen's influence has grown since joining the band to the point that now I can't imagine the band without him.
Janis 18 set a pretty low bar, I imagine.

His honesty and innocence is his appeal to me. He is my friend- and I'm thankful to have known him since 92'
Awesome that you guys go way back. Super humble and majestic musician. I didn’t realize he started playing for a crowd at 11.
Wayne is the face of the Flaming Lips; Steven is their Muse.
What a beautiful soul. I'm such a big fan of Steven's for so many reasons.
Steven is a great musician! Love his drumming style.

We need waaaay more of Steven in this world.
So cool to see a musical genius willing to share and just be so relatable. Thanks Steven and don't ever stop the journey.
I think it helps that he doesn't think of himself as a genius. I think he just sees himself as someone who is doing something that he loves.

Probably because the interviewer is Scott Booker (sounds like him anyway)
That part about the three levels of live performance is great hahahah
Yeah that was hilarious and he connected with every musician listening with that…
