Great video. I was forced into starting my own business back in 2011. I.was a full-time designer with multiple agencies and did my own design work on the side for other.clients for extra income. After I lost my job, I went all in on my business. It was terrifying but also the most rewarding thing ever. It's now been 11 years and most new business I get is from networking and past clients and referrals. My portfolio helps immensely. People probably spend 5 to 10 minutes on my website and make an instant decision that my style is the perfect fit. Corporate clients like clean, modern, and unique. I like the brand ambassador moniker. I've had two over the years and they literally brought me tens of thousands of dollars. They did marketing and their clients needed a designer. Business has been incredibly slow for me this year and I'm reworking my website so I'm hoping to find something to keep things going. One thing I've been big on.is securing retainers for my work and I think photographers and videographers should do the same. I'm also trying to expand my photography / videography business. Not sure where to begin. I've only had one paying gig so far but I loved it and the client was really happy with my work. Thanks again for the video. it got me thinking about my own business.
Good for you for making it all work back in 2011 and doing it for over a decade. That means something! I hope this year and next pick up for you. You’ve already proven you can do it and do it over a long period of time. Keep trying to pivot where you can and be indispensable. You got this 💪🏼 thanks for being here
Keep it up! That customer experience will serve you so well. Honestly that’s been the biggest growth factor for my business. Choose be helpful and reliable for people. Thanks for the sub 🙏🏼
Great advice! Saw this recommended to me in my yt feed. Ive been definitely looking at how to refine myself as a business as the reality is often times the camera is just the tool and the product is mainly for what the client asks for
That's right! Glad you're digging in and refining the business side. There's never a bad time to take an honest look at how your business is working. Thanks for the watch and comment Peter!
Awesome 👏🏻 I really appreciate that. The goal here is to be very practical and realistic. I’m in the trenches everyday working on my business and working with clients. Hope to teach more from that perspective.
Nice video. Where you nervous at all on your first client jobs? I'm a heavy introvert by nature, but I decided to face my social anxiety and contacted local business offering free video work (in order to built a portfolio). So far they like my work, and I really enjoy the creative process. But honestly i find the client interaction stressfull. Hope I learn to enjoy it.
Oh very nervous. Scared of forgetting to hit record. Audio peaking. Telling someone I need to re-film a segment or few shots. Interacting with talent. Client interaction is stressful in the beginning as you learn. It can take a year or two to get really comfortable with clients and build that confidence. But remember it takes extroverts and introverts time to get comfortable on set. All of us. Keep going. You’re already conquering fear 💪🏼
I had to shop around because not every insurance group could quote my business. I got insurance with the Hartford through a local group here in my city. It covers my liability, gear, even drone liability, and it’s about $90 per month.
