    That is actually quite remarquable

    Peter Finn, your videos have been essential for me to do maint. on my 1998 Corolla. You have a great way of describing what you're doing while your doing it and keep the videos short as possible and to the point. I am very thankful for your videos and hope your corolla is still going strong! Thank you.

    My son and I have been working on a 2000 Chevrolet Prizm LSi with a emergency brake that is very similar to that shown in this video which also requires the use of 10 mm open end and/or box end wrenches to turn the adjusting nut and locking nut used to adjust tension on the brake cable. But on Monday January 20, 2020, we could not adjust the cable tightly enough to get the car to stop well when testing the brake for emergency use. Also, we could easily get nine or more clicks when pulling the emergency brake lever. My 1989 Toyota Corolla stops better even though this Corolla still has old brake cables and has not had the tension on the cables adjusted. We checked carefully all that we did and believe all cables were installed correctly from the rear wheels all the way to the lever for the emergency brake. We had the same problem before January 12, 2020 but that cable stopped the car not as well as the one with tension set on January 20. On January 12, we tried tightening the tension further than the threads on the cable allowed by using three larger nuts as spacers put below the tensioning nut but around the threaded metal that attaches to the cable. We succeeded very well in increasing the tension because we broke the cable. When I looked under the car I saw that the portion of brake cable that leads from the lever back to the equalizer was non-existent.
    On January 20 we decide against using a large nuts as spacers for fear of breaking another cable.
    Have any of you had a similar problem with new brake cables not adjusting to enough tension to stop the car effectively? What I mean by "effectively" is that when parking the car on the driveway with what I am guessing is about a ten percent slope, seven or more clicks are needed to keep the car from rolling down hill when the gear is disengaged.
    If you or anybody watching this video had such a problem and were able to correct this problem, how did you correct this?

    Thx for posting your video, I have a tercel but the set up is similar and your video helped me diagnos my e-brake problem. Took everything apart found the cable with the two bolts, pulled on it a little and the cable came out, it was broken, lol, time for a new cable, that's job is too big for me, at least I can tell the mechanic exactly want to fix and not get ripped off, because you know how mechanics are with girls when we come in with problems and don't have a clue about what's wrong. Thx for you video it was very helpful.

    Hello Peter!
    I have a small question:
    I dropped a coin into the handbrake area (it fell between the rubber that is attached to the handbrake handle). I am curious if you think this could be dangerous for my vehicle or the handbrake mechanism? I will try to remove the plastic cover like you did in this video to find it, but I am curious if you think this might be something concerning or not.

    Peter, I installed new brake shoes on the rear drum and the liver is now very loose. Do I need to make adjustments on the drum itself or as shown in this video? I was expecting the liver to tight after installing new shoes because the new shoes are thicker than the old ones. I am not sure why it became loser than what it was before after installing new shoes.

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I this the liver like the rear break handle / grip.
      So you need to first adjust your break shoes on the drum area. There is special bolt. Second, then you need to adjust the break cable bolt in cabin area.

    My question was if i tighten up the handbrake adjuster so that i have 5 clicks will that make the back brakes more strong and will it stop the car from moving better?. and if the car still moves will that mean that it must be the brake shoes?
