  • How gorgeous is this handwoven piece of wearable artwork? This is beautiful shawl that has been woven on a triangle loom with a continuous weaving method. With Continuous weaving - you use one length of thread to weave both the warp and weft at the same time - the piece comes together as you make it!
This particular shawl is a beautiful blend of different yarns - the Casa Blend from Bernat. With this type of weave, it creates its own plaid design. It is oh so soft!

Do you have instructions on how to build the loom? Is it adjustable

Hello! This loom is adjustable and can also be put on a portable stand. My mom purchased it from Carol Leigh with Hill Creek Fiber Studio at a weaving convention we went to about 10 years ago. From looking at their website, it looks like they are still making them - and also appear to be cheaper in price than what my mom had paid. I don't use the stand because it takes up too much space in my house, but it would be neat to use if someone had a large studio or dedicated weaving space with lots of room. I actually like having it on the wall because if I'm working on a piece that takes longer, it is almost like having a piece of artwork on the wall! That being said, the stand has several notches so you can move the loom up and down depending on what part you are working on - there are definitely times when I'm standing on my tip toes or crouching way down.

    How many yards of yarn?

Hello! It depends on how thick the yarn is and how many strands. For this particular shawl, I used every other peg. I use between 360-400 yards per "strand" of yarn. For this particular one, I used the bulky Casa Blend plus a complimentary color of thinner yarn. I try to weave this a bit tighter, so the varying yardage depends on how much it stretches. So this one had about 800 yards. If you do every peg with a thinner yarn, I'd say at least 800 yards per type of yarn. I hope that makes sense!

You stated you used a bulky and a thinner yarn on every other nail. Did you ply them? I only see one skein. Thank you.

I didn't show the 2nd one at the very beginning, but you can see that second strand as I'm weaving. The 2nd strand is gray acrylic. I don't remember the exact type/brand, but one of the baby soft ones.

      Lovely and thank you!
It looked like you just tied the yarn anywhere when you ran out of one skein. Is that what you did and why? I thought we have to tie to a nail. And did you slip stitch the final strand to finish the weave?
