  • I need a little autumn upgrade for my wardrobe so I'm weaving a shawl with my handspun yarn and sewing three t-shirts from different autumn print fabrics. This is the first time I have had the big tri-loom out for a project in several years so it might be rusty. Actually...I might be rusty! Let's get weaving and find out!

    Thank you. You’ve made me want to get my triloom out again!
    Have you tried weaving a square on this? I’ve not but read about it. Leave the first shawl on the loom and then weave another, and hook the thread through the top loops as you go. Pop both off together and they should be connected on the diagonal. Your loom has nice long nails which should make it possible

    Wow absolutely gorgeous shawl! I lucked into finding a small tri-loom at a weaver's yard sale earlier this year. I tried it out using your videos and was so delighted by it that I bought a custom adjustable tri-loom on Etsy. The new one is modular and will break down into pieces so I make anything from a 3' to a 7' wingspan and keep it in a closet when it's not in use. It was expensive but it will be worth it. I can't wait to make giant woven triangle shawls using my handspun. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and the beautiful things you make!

    Beautiful! You were right- I am inspired to sew with adorable fall fabric. Triangle looms are fun but, as you say, it can really bog down as you get closer to the center! My favorite tool is a flat steel, um, thing, that holds file folders. The deeper I get into this sentence the more I realize how old I am! File folders with steel hangers??? Anyway, flat, steel, hook at end- works much better than dowels or slippery long crochet hooks.. I have some Shetland and Jacob spun with alternating shades of white, grey, and black waiting to be turned into a plaidish shawl on my triangle loom. Will have to wear a turtleneck under it!

    • @rowangreen2373

I asked how it looked? He replied " Well .. Mom ? Is it supposed to be the size of a dinner napkin ? " literally . From a 7 ft wide loom to about 18 " across and about 1 " thick 😳

    This is my first of your video's. You are adorable! Your so cute! I don't mean to sound shallow but if you watch a lot of video's when the person in the video is attractive it is so much easier to watch. You made everything look so easy. I am looking forward to watching all of your video's. I am 68 and have done dozens and dozens types of crafts. As far as fiber goes, so far I have been limited to sewing, crocheting, knitting and weaving wall tapestries. I am looking forward to learning how to spin and weave everything. I am very excited because I finally have the funds to buy what I need. No more "making do." I also have lots of time now that I am retired. My husband has been dead for several years so I don't even have to worry about cooking dinner or cleaning if I don't want to, I have found a local shop that sells spinning supplies and weaving supplies. So I will start with their classes. I like to support small, local businesses. I am in Aloha, Oregon right outside Portland, Oregon. Where are you? Bye for now.

I bought a sweater quantity of teal fingering wool to knit myself a sweater about ten years ago (after only having knit a garter stitch hotpad!). These trilogy shawls do get tight at the end. I find that letting the first hypotenuse threads drape a bit, about an inch below the horizontal at its droopiest (lowest point). This is the equivalent to weaving on a RH or floor loom and arching your thread so it doesn’t pull in at the sides. It gets taken up in all the under and overs. Just keep those long drooping threads parallel as you go, parallel swags.
    IMHO this set needs a thicker yarn, or did you full the shawl later? But, you can weave 2 threads per nail, and use thinner yarn that way!

      Bertha is currently on vacation in the basement. I will get her together one day, but at the moment we have too many house projects and would have to work around her. I also have a smaller, LeClerc Fanny to get refurbished so Bertha will have to make a little room for her new sister. 😊💜🧶

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I change colors, I switch yarn on the edge of the weaving so the tails dangle down the side. When I'm done, I weave in the tails and everything looks even and smooth. Also, if you add fringe, you can tie a knot and just let the tails become the fringe.

    Hi there Jillian Eve, This video is so delicious and reminds me of something I used to do in my twenties with a Carol Leigh triangle loom. You’ve inspired me to maybe try my hand at it again. You know they have something called a shed stick that acts as kind of a heddle and shuttle at the same time. Also do you full your shawls when your done. Have you ever heard ow waulking the wool😊

    Evie, beautiful shawl. I am planning on make a triangle loom. What advice do you have, so the wood won’t split, what kind of wood to use, and any other advice you may have for me, before I get started? Thank you very much for your videos. I love them all. You are an inspiration.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used oak for the strength, but the loom stand is pine. Mark made a jig for keeping the nails lined up. We also suggest piloting the holes with a drill first so the wood is less likely to split. Hope that helps! 🧶💖🍄🦊🌻

    Lovely work and colors. I enjoy your videos and have learned so much from you!
    I am curious, how do you change colors on your tri-loom? I have one of those huge 7' looms as well. So far I have made only one shawl. I ended up weaving in a second color after the first was completely finished, difficult but do-able.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I want a new color, I just pull a new color through. I let the tails of the color change hang down on the side of the triangle and weave in the tails when I'm finished. 🍂😊🧶

    I keep watching your videos and want to make my own tri-loom. How far apart are the nails please? I love watching your videos, I just dug out my drop spindle to have a go on (bought a year ago, and never got to trying it out properly. The safest description of my first attempt is art yarn, but that'll be okay for weaving with!

  • @truthwithbaba777
    @truthwithbaba777 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for demonstrating the tri-loom. I have been wondering how to weave. Is the knit fabric you bought wool, or cotton, or a blend.
