Triangle loom How to work bias weave with notch at neckline

  • This video tutorial shows 2 techniques that I have figured out for weaving on the triangle loom.
    The first technique is a way of weaving bias on the tri loom, based on how I weave on potholder looms. I really like this technique because of all the creative potential it offers. I'll be posting more videos about it, showing more of the things that can be done with it.
    The second technique shows how to weave a shaped neckline on the triangle loom. Weaving a notched opening at the neck makes the shawl fit much better, and gives a lovely turned collar.
    I am covering this shawl with appliqued motifs that I have woven on my Thumbelina loom to create an homage to Gardens. I will post a video of the Garden Shawl when it's done.
    NOTE: Sorry about the sound going all muffled at times.... I was wrestling with the camera while weaving, so please just forgive me and don't bother posting complaints about the bad sound unless you are sending money to buy better equipment.
    And, happy, happy weaving!
    By the way, I have the loom set up to the 7 foot configuration for this shawl.
    The loom and stand are from: www.dewberryridge.com/collect...
    It's a joy to weave with!

    Very interesting technique! Have never thought of fully warping the tri-loom before doing any weft threads. And the idea of the notch is a real stroke of genius.
    Now may I please suggest a minor change in your video technique. Buy and use a tripod, it would allow you to have the camera in place and allow you to use two hands for weaving.

      curmudgeon66 , yes, yes, yes on the tripod. Or a GoPro, maybe. The constant pauses while she struggles with how to do it one handed makes it hard to follow.

      do you do more rows to make it fuller?

    • @NoreenCroneFindlay
      @NoreenCroneFindlay  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mandi- If you are using thin yarn and the spacing feels too wide to you, you can use 2 strands of yarn held together or add strands of other yarn or thread to make it 'designer' yarn. And, yes, you can also add more rows, if needed.

    Love this! I'm going to try to wrap my head around this and give it a go. I have a 6 foot tri so I guess I would adjust the nail count for the neckline.

    very interesting...I haven't gotten a large triangle loom...yet...but this technique would be fabulous for those that make ponchos from their triangles...it's a great neckline! thanks for all this work!

    I am wondering if this can be done on a square loom. Off to think about that for awhile!

    Love this but I am very confused about what to do when you weave the smaller top half. I have two loops on the nails. Is that correct?

    Hi, Noreen. I love your woven shawl with the notch for the neck line. What yarn did you use in this video.

    • @NoreenCroneFindlay
      @NoreenCroneFindlay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, Andrea, I don't remember what the name of the yarn was... it was in my stash. It's a worsted weight and is mostly wool. I don't remember what the other fibers were. And, the embellishments that I wove for the shawl are a whole lot of stash yarns, with absolutely no idea what they were... most of them were wool, too, but there's a bit of everything in this shawl! People stop me when I walk down the street wearing it, because they want to look closely at all the little woven creatures. If you check my videos about the Thumbelina loom, there are complete instructions for weaving all of the embellishments.

    Wondering how many yards of yarn are needed for a 6’ loom.

    What size crochet hook are you using?

    • @NoreenCroneFindlay
      @NoreenCroneFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      4.5 mm or 5 mm.... I have a range of crochet hooks that I use, depending on the yarn I'm weaving

    Does the rod need to be brass?

    • @NoreenCroneFindlay
      @NoreenCroneFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the brass rod for another purpose, but ended up keeping it for working on my triangle loom instead. 1/4 inch wooden dowels are a touch bendy for the purpose, but a steel rod would work fine.

  • @adrianhamblinkc3ibu33

    What are the dimensions (diameter and length) of the brass rod?
