Are you able to swap shifts with people in order to string a bunch of days off to travel? Just getting 2 days off per week isn't enough to go anywhere. Out one day, and back the next.
Good info. Best to try and work as an airline employee not contract. We get better everything benefits, pay, etc. There is right now a lot of manpower shortage (which is pretty normal) but in places like NYC, Jersey, South Florida where travel has pickup a lot faster and airlines have made a lot of slot changes.
Yep. Atlanta is probably the largest hub hiring. Ive heard from senior management that they've gone through at least 7k+ interviews. Some don't pass due to the drug test. Its hard to fuck it up as they're in a "hire anyone" stage, but I get it as many people left during the height of the 2020 outbreak.

All I can say is props to all the ramp agents who strictly work on narrow body. I absolutely hate narrow body. Wide body are the best planes to work on.
After inbound and outbound Jetbridge will pull out when boarding is done Now is time to push the plain.. wait for the captain signal for push. Make sure everything is clear like no plane ,cart and tugs or people .do FOD WALK Captain- clear to push Ramp agent - Copy that captain Ramp agent - clear start Engine 1 Captain - copy that Ramp agent -push complete ,lower the cradle ,unattached the strap and show it to the captain , give him a salute.. And leave... job is done. Normally you will have 3 to 4 times of flights a day and thats all Very simple.. i love this JOB to be honest Always remember protect yourself at all times .
I've been thinking about applying for Amazon Air's ramp position. I had applied for UPS's ramp, got hired, was trained specifically how to identify aircraft and unload them safely. All that good jazz and then the second week I go in, they threw me into a place I wasn't trained for and it really bummed me out! But seeing that Amazon is offering ramp makes me tempted! The hours are a lot longer than UPS's but hey- its good pay! ✈
My position is super chill and there is huge gaps in between flights where you can recoup and watch a show i get above min wage and we just laugh together and have a good day.
I work at Unifi, were contracted with United, Delta, Frontier, Volaris and we deice for UPS in the winter. Its low-key whack asf cause they'll have 3 to 4 rampers working the mid days on Mondays when we have frontier departing at 1302, delta departing at 1320, and united departing at 1338 with two more untied expresses on the ground up at 1350 and 1405. then the night shift will have 12 rampers working on one Volaris flight. anyways honestly I love the job, its fast paced, its outside, its little to no customer service (which after working at Starbucks in the airport for 3 years is amazing) hands down ngl love the job.
Just joined as a ramp agent, I’m a newbie…just joined two weeks ago! Worked my first main line today, two of them…wow! This job is heavy for me but I welcome a challenge always! I’m just a little scared that I won’t last but I don’t want to go and give up.
@@LorenzoMarch I went ahead and got mine for various reasons, so I'm good to go there. I'm just looking into how they do their scheduling. I'd be happy as a gate agent, ramp agent, flight attendant. I'm not picky. I probably need to ramp up my fitness a little (had a couple surgies this year, so I haven't been able to lift lately) but otherwise, it looks like something I can do. Plus I live within an hour to hour and a half drive of 3 airports (that's not far to rural folks 😂). I'm only 2.5 from MCO as well. I don't know if that helps me any at all 🤷♀️. I currently work for mainline United in Denver. Southwest is for sure up in the pay scale but American just supposedly renewed their salary cap to $38 p/h , we are hoping to jump to 39-40 p/h from our current $33. Its a common practice for unionized airlines to compete for industry leading pay.
I recently accepted a job offer for Envoy Air, I’m currently taking my O&P tests for my A&P license, I’m hoping to be able to transfer to American Airlines regional afterwards.
I work at sea tac. It’s terrible. Getting into work is a hassle. I live 15 miles from the airport but it takes 1 1/2 hours to get into work everyday. You have to park at a offsite lot 10 mins from the airport and take a shuttle. Then you have to walk to the end of the airport for employee screening then walk another 15-25 mins to your break room. I work 10 hour shifts but 14 hours of my day is taken up by working. During winter we get mandatory overtime. You will be forced to work 16 hours. Then you only get 8 hours to go home shower eat sleep and drive back to work. It’s hell.

@@acx4548 go with delta for sure. Better benefits and flight allowances. Most McGee employees transfer to delta. McGee has slighty higher pay though. But the work culture is toxic at McGee. She hear lots of good things about delta and they have more destinations you can use your flight benefits for. Also McGee just moved break rooms over to N gates so it takes even longer to clock in after security than any other company at the airport. Where as delta has their break room close to employees security checkpoint. But just for clarity. I haven’t worked for delta so I only have one side to the whole story of both companies. Even then you can transfer to any company at the airport easily. Almost every airline is desperate for people. A lots of employees here have worked for multiple companies at the airport.
@@YoDzOnHalo thank you for the response. My current job I’ll be giving up a lot of downtime at work. It’s overnight security at a warehouse that’s empty. Usually watching Netflix all night. I like the idea of working at airport because of the benefits for travel. Is there a lot of down time between flights? I hear some people only load two flights their whole shit
@@acx4548 on PM shifts some days you might only have 3-6 flights. Other days you will do back to back flights all day sometimes without a lunch break. AM shifts are the busiest and you will work the most flights. If your shift starts at 3-5pm you will likely only have a couple flights. Most flights stop going out at 11-12am We have 10 hour shifts so if you start at 3pm you are off at 130am. Weekdays like Wednesday your last flight will be around 10pm. On weekends its usually around 1130-12. So you have some downtime for sure. Holiday seasons are crazy tho so it’s constant work with mandatory OT so some days you might work 16 hours. Transfers department has the most downtime. You go to different flights and drop off bags. If you work on the ramp as a crew you will have less downtime. Also IAF has a lot of downtime. There you only handle bags from from international flights which Alaska doesn’t have a lot of. You can bid on any department in the company. We have bids every 4 months so you can always switch around and find what you like the most.

Most important be aware of your surrounding. A little ignorance may cause big problem. I love aviation industry. worked around 15 years at various position.

I am thinking of this being my first job . I have all way love planes and have dream of becoming a pilot . Till I release how much money that be but still looking forward to working hopefully on the ramp this summer, plus I hope on break to get some cool planes spotting pictures if that ever allows
Not a bad start If you want to become a pilot... You'll know everything from the ground up and have a full 360 view of the aviation industry... Always ask questions and gain as much knowledge as you can

I’m planning on quitting my $21.80 maintenance technician job that I’ve been working for almost 5 years hopefully July or August( 5 year anniversary)to work as a ramp agent. I know ramp agents don’t make much but it more of a passion for me really, I love airplanes, I understand the engineering behind it but it amazes me how something so huge can fly.......in fact I even wanna become a private pilot. Anyways I just have one question, How’s the work schedule like? Because I wanna also attend pilot school while working at the airport.
It just depends on your station Ive worked a 4-12:30 , 10-6 they have a 4pm - till 12 so basically a early morning,mid day and night. But if you tell them what hours you're looking for they may be able to work something out for you.
Dude! Become a pilot. They are in incredibly short supply. Military is the way to go because they'll pay for everything, but then there's a commitment. If you go the private route, it's expensive but you can become a CFI after getting your private pilot license (PPL) and start making money. That's the route I'm going right now.
I work at major hub/airline 6 years idk we've had alot of hires last 12 months. anyway deal with weather be safe get bags on time work weekends holidays ....easy job..
If you get on with Mainline Delta it's great, but besides that any third party cargo carry its a really bad experience and under paid position. DGS, Swissport, AGIS etc under paid. I currently work for Delta Mainline and love my job great pay and benefits
I did a little bit of time with Deltas metal, (DGS). Its a good brand (Delta) but United is the place for me.. Delta does have a hefty profit sharing .. but UA is cutting employees $25,000 moving bonus checks. From a work stand point these are two incredible airlines.
Not really I’m working with delta as a rump agent and they keep asking pull bag at the last min I hate pull bag when I stuck the bags lol but I love my job
@@geritssacabrera8744 it is hard on your body, the stacking of the bags. You can get over a hundred bags and lifting while bending/on your knees is not easy.
Been out of work for a month. Laid off from my programming job. Its hard to find others. I had an interview for ramp agent at Delta. Waiting to see what happens next. Honestly if i take this, it will be weird going back to manual labor work when i was nearly in my room on my computer for nearly 2 years
Yo my friend a Customer Service Manager for AA said that exact same thing about not telling people about your buddy passes cause people show out then it's on you.

Going thru the pre employment background check and all filled out w4 forms and all employment papers I have my employee profile and all already .I have no felonies and all .just worried might get disqualified for the license . Job is for ramp agent McGee air services in Los Angeles airport (lax). Hope I make it thru always wanted to work for these jobs man .
To be honest must people just stay at that level. Probably the best start is to become a lead the supervisor to work your way into management. But once you get into the business you will find a direction you will like to go in.

If your dad has a freakin golf course screw that he'll have it 4yrs from now get your 💰 experience grow and fly free lbvs.. I am on time unlike the average FedEx worker man. A new person who joined less than a month ago on sort shouldn't be a ramp agent right? I have been on sort 3 years. Yes I guess I need to start with ramp.
My only question is about getting the badge and background check. I was told we needed to get fingerprinted and they would reach out to me for that, but I haven't heard back from them, is fingerprinting done before or after the background check? I took my drug test already and I know for a fact I passed it and now its been about a week since I've heard back.
It can't hurt to check, but I would expect it to take a few weeks. It took me about four weeks to clear it and I had to provide the background checking company with most of my information due to them being unable to contact previous employers and schools. That was seven years ago, before the current situation came about. With the way things are right now, they're probably running a bit behind.
I completely forgot I made this comment, but I'll give an update. I got cleared and got my SIDA badge and have been working on the ramp for six weeks now. The best part of the job for me is making connections in the aviation industry, I've talked to some pilots from Amazon and Spirit and they gave me some good advice on how to get my commercial pilots license and some companies that will help pay for the schooling. Also one last thing A-320 bin>737 bin, hate those damn things... too short.
10 years to top out. There are many jobs that pay higher once you get in. Ot can be hard but not non stop. The people on the ramp are amazing. Real tight group lile family only get along better. The shifts vary everyone finds what they like usually.
Cargo handles mail , packages, freight , animals and other items companies or people ship on planes. Ramp agent you will be dealing with passenger luggage sorting loading and unloading bags. Maybe even cleaning planes. Cargo is usually on the other side from the terminal ramp you will actually be around the planes more.

I recently applied to southwest. Would you think that they would be flexible with me due to my sick dad being in another state not in very well condition. We always visit once a month for about 2-3 days. I read it had to do with seniority but I am nervous cause I need at least a weekend off a month. 😭
4:00 I can't understand much of what you say, like 'called up for cabin service, if you have issues with cleaning' and then I don't understand after that. Do you clean crap out of toilets, and puke off of seats? I had to fly in a seat someone puked on, even if it was supposedly cleaned.
Honestly depends on day and situation. A day that everything goes smoothly not so much. A (IROP) irregular operation day you will definitely use he radio alot more
What about applying for a city out of your state? Do some employees fly home everyday after work & come back the next day? Do they fly home for just the weekend?
No they don't fly back in forward everyday but alot do fly back home on off days. I take that back some do fly back daily but they make sure the flights aren't booked or they will have to drive

Just curious? Is the job woman friendly? I understand there is a lot of lifting, but would you consider it doable? I was military 6 years and do have some experience with regular heavy lifting/ruck marching with 40-60lbs.
I'll be working as a fleet clerk for AA soon. Been reading a lot of things about the position, tho. I don't know what to expect. Been told flight benefits is good but some have problems finding time for it, overworked, campany don't care, etc. Dont know what to do now
American flight benefits is first come first serve. First to bid online is the first to get on the flight. If you're at a hub you'll definitely be busy. Hope you're not anywhere up north because it's going to be real cold when you're working.

Apply online then they hit you with an email in a few weeks the phone interview then in person . They really just looking for someone willing to work and not quit right away. Ain't nothing to be afraid of

If you're in a big city hub station, dsfinitely apply directly at a major airline. The contractor jobs are straight ass and they don't even try to do better for their agents.

You can make 6 figures working the ramp for southwest but it's gonna take a lot longer than a couple years. Only the career rampers make that kind of dough
Shoot I don't know about that one. Southwest ramp agents top out at 35 an hour but that takes a long time to get to.. maybe a station manger or osm but in a couple of years I don't think so. Starting out they get paid 15-17 I think

@@LorenzoMarch yea, rr is what every agent starts at. It’s like being part time but with lots of restrictions. And we dont get medical, dental, or vacation. Now they gonna have seasonal and Fulltime but we will be able to bid “part time” schedules if we wanna work less days and hours. There’s also gonna be no more ACS, everyone will be CSA. They are changing a lot in the company it’s really good. I hope you become mainline.
@@LorenzoMarch ACS only consisted of above and below wing. CSA was used for Fulltime and ready reserves was the rest. Now all below and above wing will be under one division, CSA. You’ll either be Fulltime of seasonal, there’s no more RR and there’s no PT. It’s better this way without PT because we can change back and forth between FT and PT without having to be permanently assigned to either group. American for example has FT and PT, but you can’t go back and forth. You have to be PT or be upgraded to FT when a spot opens.
2 things to remember be on time and be were you are supposed to be and you will be around for a long time. 20 year agent here.👍

at least you guys had 12 on volaris. I was with a contract with frontier and volaris. only 3 of us worked volaris 😩

What does $38 p/h mean? $38 per hour? That would usually be abbreviated $38/hr without the p.
I recently accepted a job offer for Envoy Air, I’m currently taking my O&P tests for my A&P license, I’m hoping to be able to transfer to American Airlines regional afterwards.

I work at sea tac. It’s terrible. Getting into work is a hassle. I live 15 miles from the airport but it takes 1 1/2 hours to get into work everyday. You have to park at a offsite lot 10 mins from the airport and take a shuttle. Then you have to walk to the end of the airport for employee screening then walk another 15-25 mins to your break room. I work 10 hour shifts but 14 hours of my day is taken up by working. During winter we get mandatory overtime. You will be forced to work 16 hours. Then you only get 8 hours to go home shower eat sleep and drive back to work. It’s hell.
An hour and a half geez that crazy. That’s ruff I’ve been to Sea Tac one time. Hope things get better for you

@@acx4548 go with delta for sure. Better benefits and flight allowances. Most McGee employees transfer to delta. McGee has slighty higher pay though. But the work culture is toxic at McGee. She hear lots of good things about delta and they have more destinations you can use your flight benefits for. Also McGee just moved break rooms over to N gates so it takes even longer to clock in after security than any other company at the airport. Where as delta has their break room close to employees security checkpoint. But just for clarity. I haven’t worked for delta so I only have one side to the whole story of both companies. Even then you can transfer to any company at the airport easily. Almost every airline is desperate for people. A lots of employees here have worked for multiple companies at the airport.
@@YoDzOnHalo thank you for the response. My current job I’ll be giving up a lot of downtime at work. It’s overnight security at a warehouse that’s empty. Usually watching Netflix all night. I like the idea of working at airport because of the benefits for travel. Is there a lot of down time between flights? I hear some people only load two flights their whole shit
@@acx4548 on PM shifts some days you might only have 3-6 flights. Other days you will do back to back flights all day sometimes without a lunch break. AM shifts are the busiest and you will work the most flights. If your shift starts at 3-5pm you will likely only have a couple flights. Most flights stop going out at 11-12am We have 10 hour shifts so if you start at 3pm you are off at 130am. Weekdays like Wednesday your last flight will be around 10pm. On weekends its usually around 1130-12. So you have some downtime for sure. Holiday seasons are crazy tho so it’s constant work with mandatory OT so some days you might work 16 hours. Transfers department has the most downtime. You go to different flights and drop off bags. If you work on the ramp as a crew you will have less downtime. Also IAF has a lot of downtime. There you only handle bags from from international flights which Alaska doesn’t have a lot of. You can bid on any department in the company. We have bids every 4 months so you can always switch around and find what you like the most.

I am thinking of this being my first job . I have all way love planes and have dream of becoming a pilot . Till I release how much money that be but still looking forward to working hopefully on the ramp this summer, plus I hope on break to get some cool planes spotting pictures if that ever allows
Not a bad start If you want to become a pilot... You'll know everything from the ground up and have a full 360 view of the aviation industry... Always ask questions and gain as much knowledge as you can

I’m planning on quitting my $21.80 maintenance technician job that I’ve been working for almost 5 years hopefully July or August( 5 year anniversary)to work as a ramp agent. I know ramp agents don’t make much but it more of a passion for me really, I love airplanes, I understand the engineering behind it but it amazes me how something so huge can fly.......in fact I even wanna become a private pilot. Anyways I just have one question, How’s the work schedule like? Because I wanna also attend pilot school while working at the airport.
It just depends on your station Ive worked a 4-12:30 , 10-6 they have a 4pm - till 12 so basically a early morning,mid day and night. But if you tell them what hours you're looking for they may be able to work something out for you.

Dude! Become a pilot. They are in incredibly short supply. Military is the way to go because they'll pay for everything, but then there's a commitment. If you go the private route, it's expensive but you can become a CFI after getting your private pilot license (PPL) and start making money. That's the route I'm going right now.
You have to bid your schefule. It's a nightmare until you get used to it.

If you get on with Mainline Delta it's great, but besides that any third party cargo carry its a really bad experience and under paid position. DGS, Swissport, AGIS etc under paid. I currently work for Delta Mainline and love my job great pay and benefits
I did a little bit of time with Deltas metal, (DGS). Its a good brand (Delta) but United is the place for me.. Delta does have a hefty profit sharing .. but UA is cutting employees $25,000 moving bonus checks. From a work stand point these are two incredible airlines.

Going thru the pre employment background check and all filled out w4 forms and all employment papers I have my employee profile and all already .I have no felonies and all .just worried might get disqualified for the license . What career paths do you see or where do you go from? When it comes to starting at ground operations.
To be honest must people just stay at that level. Probably the best start is to become a lead the supervisor to work your way into management. But once you get into the business you will find a direction you will like to go in.

My only question is about getting the badge and background check. I was told we needed to get fingerprinted and they would reach out to me for that, but I haven't heard back from them, is fingerprinting done before or after the background check? I took my drug test already and I know for a fact I passed it and now its been about a week since I've heard back.
I think background is before fingerprint but I'm not 100% sure. You might want to reach out to management and check on progress
It can't hurt to check, but I would expect it to take a few weeks. It took me about four weeks to clear it and I had to provide the background checking company with most of my information due to them being unable to contact previous employers and schools. That was seven years ago, before the current situation came about. With the way things are right now, they're probably running a bit behind.
I completely forgot I made this comment, but I'll give an update. I got cleared and got my SIDA badge and have been working on the ramp for six weeks now. The best part of the job for me is making connections in the aviation industry, I've talked to some pilots from Amazon and Spirit and they gave me some good advice on how to get my commercial pilots license and some companies that will help pay for the schooling. Also one last thing A-320 bin>737 bin, hate those damn things... too short.

No... I think 30-35 but that takes a long time to get there. At least 10-15 years.
10 years to top out. There are many jobs that pay higher once you get in. Ot can be hard but not non stop. The people on the ramp are amazing. Real tight group lile family only get along better. The shifts vary everyone finds what they like usually.
I got offered ramp agent and cargo agent. If you had an option to choose again, which one would you go out with and why?
Cargo handles mail , packages, freight , animals and other items companies or people ship on planes. Ramp agent you will be dealing with passenger luggage sorting loading and unloading bags. Maybe even cleaning planes. Cargo is usually on the other side from the terminal ramp you will actually be around the planes more.
Sorry for being uneducated, but is there a difference from ramp agent vs baggage handler.? I googled but would like a better insight from experienced people.

I recently applied to southwest. Would you think that they would be flexible with me due to my sick dad being in another state not in very well condition. We always visit once a month for about 2-3 days. I read it had to do with seniority but I am nervous cause I need at least a weekend off a month. 😭

Do you clean crap out of toilets, and puke off of seats? I had to fly in a seat someone puked on, even if it was supposedly cleaned.
You empty the toilets from the outside with the lav truck. I never cleaned puke but someone on the crew has to i just walked the other way lol

Honestly depends on day and situation. A day that everything goes smoothly not so much. A (IROP) irregular operation day you will definitely use he radio alot more
What about applying for a city out of your state? Do some employees fly home everyday after work & come back the next day? Do they fly home for just the weekend?
No they don't fly back in forward everyday but alot do fly back home on off days. I take that back some do fly back daily but they make sure the flights aren't booked or they will have to drive

I'll be working as a fleet clerk for AA soon. Been reading a lot of things about the position, tho. I don't know what to expect. Been told flight benefits is good but some have problems finding time for it, overworked, campany don't care, etc. Dont know what to do now
American flight benefits is first come first serve. First to bid online is the first to get on the flight. If you're at a hub you'll definitely be busy. Hope you're not anywhere up north because it's going to be real cold when you're working.

You can make 6 figures working the ramp for southwest but it's gonna take a lot longer than a couple years. Only the career rampers make that kind of dough
Shoot I don't know about that one. Southwest ramp agents top out at 35 an hour but that takes a long time to get to.. maybe a station manger or osm but in a couple of years I don't think so. Starting out they get paid 15-17 I think

@@LorenzoMarch yea, rr is what every agent starts at. It’s like being part time but with lots of restrictions. And we dont get medical, dental, or vacation. Now they gonna have seasonal and Fulltime but we will be able to bid “part time” schedules if we wanna work less days and hours. There’s also gonna be no more ACS, everyone will be CSA. They are changing a lot in the company it’s really good. I hope you become mainline.

@@LorenzoMarch ACS only consisted of above and below wing. CSA was used for Fulltime and ready reserves was the rest. Now all below and above wing will be under one division, CSA. You’ll either be Fulltime of seasonal, there’s no more RR and there’s no PT. It’s better this way without PT because we can change back and forth between FT and PT without having to be permanently assigned to either group. American for example has FT and PT, but you can’t go back and forth. You have to be PT or be upgraded to FT when a spot opens.
