Hello, you're channel got me through a 99' Disco 1 wheel bearing replacement in the dead of winter. I am here today because after doing said wheel bearing job I heard some clunkening on the driver side front hub. Took the wheel off and the caliper was rubbing on the top of the rotor. It cracked two big holes in the top rim of my rotor. The rotors are sitting in a box waiting to go on however, the stub axle is all mangled up on the inside. I found myself at this stub axle overhaul video. Thanks for making the video. Keep doing what you're doing.
Glad it was of help. i have another channel open which i am going to cover more stuff that can be applied to Land Rover repairs. The channel is called Vehicle Maintenance Prepper if you care to take a look. It's fresh so stuff will turn up on there in the coming months.
I have to replace a CV Joint (Discovery I) and I have been hesitating about doing it myselfe. then I came across your Swivel Pin Housing Overhaul videos and started right away with the job. Now I am waiting for the spare parts to arrive to Tenerife... (bad weather in the north... ship delayed... ). With the Stup Axle in my hands I was wondering how to get that bearing and seal out of the Axle, and more important how to get the new parts in, without damaging everything. (Without any special tools...) And here you post the answer... incredible! Thanks a lot!
Brilliant videos! I have been replaced the drivers side CV joint on a 1999 Discovery 1, and I am doing the D90 brake upgrade as well. I see the stub axle bearing had a catastrophic failure on the D1, as the rollers look like confetti now! I have ordered the replacement parts (bearing and seal) and was wondering what size the socket you were using to coax the bearing in was? Thank you for these videos and your time!
Based on your excellent videos I am getting ready to change the swivel housing on my Defender 90 2002 TD5, I mentioned in another post that its badly pitted. So I am just a bit confused, is there a needle roller in all defender half shafts, front and back? As I have made a few expensive mistake ordering wrong parts (I live in Sweden so post is expensive) I purchased the parts manual. But I just cant see the needle roller. Whats the correct part number please buddy. Cheers Michael
Hi there :) can I ask what's could be the consequences if you put the stub axel inner seal the other way round because this is what I did and im not sure what's that going to cause me in a long term? Kind regards Best wishes :)
My new stub wont go over the old CV joint because the seal I fitted is smaller than the one that is in the stub Axle that came off. On the other side the new one went on fine so it seems that I have 2 different CV Joints in my axle. Question: Can you tell me which CV Joint is the correct one to Order? The seal I have used is the same as the one you are using now and the Stub Axle I ordered was ordered via my 1997 Defender VIN number.
9 years since the upload and still a fantastic reference series of Defender videos..... Thanks TF👍🏻😎
Great video. Managed to reproduce your bent chisel tool and it worked first time.
Thank You!!

Glad it was of help. The rest of the series including wheel bearing will be up next month.
Please put some bracing on your work bench! Great video.
The bench was only temporary. See other videos....
@@trailerfitter2 yeah, okay... But that bench gave me an eye twitch.
Brilliant videos!

Really some great tips in there... I admit to having botched a couple of needle bearings in my time... I do like your cranked tool by the way :D
Can't remember where that one came from but it is really handy.

Amazing.. I was expecting at least some inyourendo over the cranked tool ... Looks like something I spied on a mac van once... I want one!
Matt Allen a pry bar should work the same I would have thought.

It does work but I think that extra wiggle in the end makes it even better for the task... It's just man tool envy at the end of the day... :D
Very good 👍

on what series of vehicles do the needle roller bearings appear on? I just took my RRC stub off and there ain't one there.
These are the discovery 1 and later Defender axles.
Has your drive flange got the shaft on it with a separate joint or is the CV joint and shaft like the one in the video?
well I have the joint on the bench ready for me to strip tonight, so will find out soon enough...
***** CV joint is separate from drive flange and half shaft.
Okay I know what you have. Appeared on the Discovery 1 200tdi version for a while. Quite a rare axle.
