I would love to hear this work transformed into a concerto for flute, oboe and strings! Amazing transcription and beautiful playing!

I'm wondering in the opposite direction. Here we have a very able performance of the trio sonata for two featured instruments plus the usual cello and harpsichord which make an agreeable tinkly accompaniment. But these are originally organ trio sonatas where the pedal part, a single line like the upper parts, has its own role in the music -- something that is completely lost here. I have never heard a version of any of these sonatas for three players where there is a clear, distinct bottom line that can be heard on equal terms with the two upper lines. Could this be done with a baroque flute and oboe, quieter than modern instruments, and a cello? Or a bassoon? I'm not sure that either would have the power to make themselves heard here.

Really nice instrtumentation! And really inspiring playing! I am playing the piece with viola und harpsichord, but this as a trio sonata played on 4 instruments makes a lot of sense! You can really hear all the voices very well. Thank you a lot for uploading it. :)

Great discovery. Thanks. Also more interesting than the viola da gamba version. It sounds more Bachian. One is reminded of the Brandenburg concertos

Absolutely wonderful! Any idea where can this arrangement of this sonata be purchased? I don't find any possibility for this instrumentation, neither for two flutes...

I've been looking for the trio sonata version of this and cannot find it anywhere. Did you have to transpose this to play it or did you purchase it? If you did purchase the music, can you share the publisher so I can purchase it too?

This flutist's style of play is not suitable for baroque music.

Would you elaborate? I like his winkelpickers but I'm not sure they're entirely approriate either. Am I right in thinking this is the only trio sonata Bach actually wrote for two instruments and continuo?

@@Lilaliba88 Really? Thanks for teling me. Most of Bach's trio sonatas were written for solo organ and have been transcribed for various combinations of instrument.

@KlarissimaFlute Yes. You're quite right and I find I've actually got a version of this played on piano and cello by Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky. I was confused because I've got another version by Heinz Holliger and others on another CD, which contains two more works attributed to JS Bach but probably composed by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel. Thank you very much. Sorry to be so long winded.
