Many singers have a hard time singing from the diaphragm and getting out of their throat.
Unfortunately, singing from the throat can make you strain and sound very nasal.
Today, I'll show you a quick test to see if you're singing from your throat and how to fix it.

Really good test from singing from diaphragm.
In practice, expand your belly when you take in air, place the tip of your thumb on you stomach and push in gently as you sing at the same time pulling in your stomach as you sing the air out.
You sorta have to forget how you’ve learned to breathe when you sing.
Breathing normally your chest will expand and your stomach with suck in, try to breathe into your stomach on the inhale so your chest sinks but stomach rises, and then the opposite on the exhale.

It's because the terminology itself isn't actually that helpful. Literally everyone "sings from the throat," because that's where the vocal folds are located. Everyone "sings from the diaphragm" in the sense that it's always involved in singing, because it's an involuntary muscle responsible for inhalation.
If teachers would just say what they really mean--raise your soft palate, try to keep the larynx stable in its normal position, don't let it elevate so high--I think a lot of unnecessary confusion would be avoided.

This isn’t a super in depth tutorial, so it combines a couple concepts that makes it come across the wrong way. larynx position isn’t directly related to tone, that’s all to do with mouth shape and vowels. Having a relaxed larynx will make you more comfortable, and then you can adjust your vowel to get the tone you want

This is the best vocal channel on youtube. It is all the info from classical vocal training explained impeccably in easily digestible bits. It is your explanations that really make the channel special. Keep it up. You've made a huge difference in my life. When I hit it big, I'll be telling people to check you out. To all the future singers, keep at it, keep practicing. For me it literally happened nearly overnight after thousands of hours of practice and sounding awful.

When I was in middle school, my clarinet private lesson teacher told me to yawn before playing. By opening up and relaxing the space in your throat, literally more air can pass through it. It helps with voice AND playing wind instruments. Interestingly, when my throat was tight, my harder (higher) notes on the clarinet were harder to get out and sound good. By relaxing, those notes were easier. Considering beginning singer tend to not push enough air through, I think that's another reason this helps for singing.

Yawning can cause your tongue to depress back into your throat and push down on your larynx. This kind of lowered larynx is incorrect and limits range and causes tension.
Larynx can be lowered subconsciously by breathing deep into your back and opening your throat on inhalation

    • @OneBoundMusic
      @OneBoundMusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

Singing "from your throat" (with a raised larynx) is not dangerous and you will not cause injury by doing this. You most likely caused the injury by using too much air through the restricted vocal tract.

A tldr version of this I think would be to have an “uh” placement into your throat before singing/as you inhale and sing into that open posture. That way you start off with the larynx neutral/low and a good base to spring board off of.
(Just be sure you’re not holding your breath with your throat when you do this or the breath pressure will make that larynx shoot up and you’ll loose hella air and sound even worse.”

No bro, this completely applies. With this method youll open up your throat more for air to slip through when using your diaphragm. Air should pass through easily, not forced. I literally just watched this video and his video on diaphragm breathing and unlocked my false cord scream. If you don’t believe me, i even thanked him up above in the comments.
Watch “extreme vocalist institutes” youtube short about his theater method, plus this video and his video on diaphragm breathing. Combine those and you should get something. I promise, about 3 hours ago, I made a sound close to CJ mccreery
