    I'm sorry, I don't really get art and mixing colors, but when you connected the top it blew my mind. I literally saw it go from browns and yellow to gold. The vision or know how, don't know what it is, to do that must be an extraordinary gift. Thank you for this, im going to go paint some brown and yellow eggs in an attempt to make gold

    Enjoy your videos. I have painted brass and other metals. Never thought of putting the highlights in first. This demo gives a great illustration of why placing the highlights first helps with getting the "halo", making it much easier to transition from light to dark. Thank You.

    I've been trying to find a good consistent brass color, where I was obviously making it more complex than it is. Your combination of burnt umber and yellow couldn't be any easier, nor any better. Watching your video was time well spent - thank you very much for posting it .

    Our very equine oriented town has two beautiful horse statues at the entrance of our town.I wanted to paint them standing in the field of flowers in which they reside. Mountains, trees, flowers....easy peasy. It was not until I watched your video that I attempted to recreate these bronze statues. Thank you so much. Your video and advice was just what I needed to get the painting completed. Thank you.

      Yes you can! In fact that Lemon Yellow may work even better for brass as it tends to have a slightly greenish color. For gold you can add a touch of red or Burnt Sienna to the mix to warm it up. Thanks for watching! :)

      The shinyness of metals is indicated by the values reflected in it so aside from the color be sure to pay close attention to that. Don't be afraid to go dark if you see it in the subject. Thanks for watching! :)

    Thank you yet again, I’m in the habit now of watching at least one of your videos first thing in the morning. Do you have a demo of glass and water? I never went to art school, in fact when I was a child (many years ago) we didn’t have art lessons so it was when I retired I started fumbling my way through, producing work that was embarrassing! I attended-evening classes a couple of times and over time turned out some half decent paintings, taking months to finish whereas other friends took a few weeks to complete their work! I am very inspired by your videos, I read other people’s comments and they all have the same high regard for you and your work, so once again, thank you.

    it reflects colors around it like this IF you have a polished gold surface, this will deviate if you have a matte unpolished and textured golden object

    Can I use acrylics to follow your method here for brass etc? I think you got the highlights very well because you could blend with the oils.
    Great video.

    • @walcottfineart5088
      @walcottfineart5088  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct that using this method with acrylics would be more difficult. It helps to have oil's blending qualities. You could probably do it though with some practice. You may need to work quickly. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for your demos. They are very instructive, indeed. Unlike other demos, yours are worth while
    watching for any beginner. To speak for my self, I learn.
    I have a question. Can i mix oil colors of different brands?

    • @walcottfineart5088

    Please tell what exact colors of Oil and Acrylic colors with shading and light color mixes to paint pure gold with shines and darks as seen on gold ornaments.

    • @walcottfineart5088
      @walcottfineart5088  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! I list the colors used to paint the gold/brass at the end of the video. It comes at time index 12:39. I think I also mentioned them as I painted. You would use the same for both oil or acrylics. :)

    Brass type colours have been such a mystery to me. Looks like you have used a bright yellow with lighter and darker shades of burnt umber. Thanks for a great demo.

    • @walcottfineart5088
      @walcottfineart5088  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is the basic color mixture for brass/gold! Metal is depicted by the pattern of lights and darks it reflects. Thanks for watching!

    Is the cadmium yellow light the same as medium yellow?

    • @walcottfineart5088
      @walcottfineart5088  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I find the Cadmium Yellows vary a lot from maker to maker. In general though, no, Cadmium Yellow Medium will more orangey than the Light. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching! Chromatic Black tends to lean towards cool, but not quite as much as Ivory Black. Hope that helps! Sorry, I just now saw this comment.

      Thanks for watching! Do mean the color in the toning? That is just raw umber. I love that your handle is "lorem ipsum". I'm a typeface designer so I know that well! :)
