Hi Tom. Thanks for sharing your experience thus far, with honesty. I can relate. I sold my house, cars, and most everything I owned in Canada, and moved to the Philippines nearly 5 years ago now. That may sound like a long time ago, compared to your 5 months, but trust me, time will fly!! Especially because you will be so busy with 3 kids and eventually find your new home. I remember day 5 and thinking, "What have I done?!! 😂. But it's hands down, the best decision I ever made. Everything will fall into place, as they should. And yes, I do miss my family and those belly laughs with my best friends (many now living in UK) but that's life. When it gets to be too much, I get on a plane and see them, or vice versa. So try not to fret. It's all good! 😊

Oh friends and family we missed the most , i was younger that time and single, there was a language barrier ( arabic ) which made it more difficult. I just focused on work and the opportunities that opens for me ..for my future and that helped me a lot ,to be ok. All the best to you Tom

the struggle living abroad for me is the language barrier, currently living in Australia it’s hard for me to express my mind sometimes😂
I miss the noise of Filipinos but over all I love to live here in Australia🇦🇺

I moved from California to Korea and that was a CULTURE SHOCK because I hadn’t been out of the states. But we entered ourselves and met families that became life long friends. The only difficulty is missing family back home in California. Just make sure you visit or they visit every year and it becomes a new normal and so exciting!

I've recently started watching this channel (and some other channels who vlog in the Philippines). You're all doing such a great job in promoting living in the PH. My mum is from the Philippines and we haven't visited since 2001. The country and Manila seems to have changed a lot. Tom, your Filipino/Tagalog is pretty good. You've got the accent down.

Watched this vlog a couple of hours ago and found it informative about the truths you revealed.
We will be moving to the Philippines in June from Iceland.
I am originally from the UK but have been living for the last 35 years and my Filipino wife for the last 5 and now, we can´t wait to move and are counting the days.
We as older people will be moving for my retirement, but the same things apply.
Regarding your house hunt, have you ever thought about continuing to rent for a while, then find and buy a plot to build your dream house? you can save a lot of money that way plus you get to have it just the way you want.
As your wife is Filipino, this makes it a lot easier, this is what we figured was the best course of action for us.
Whatever you decide, good luck with your life there, and good luck with finding your own dream property.

Life is about not having regrets so to overcome regrets is to focus in changing our perception and, agree with Martin to integrate, network and embrace the culture. Maybe doubts are just homesickness. I did the same thing immigrating from the Philippines to Australia and after nearly 30 years then immigrating again to Canada where I reside now for 11 years to date. So, I was definitely out of my Comfort Zone several times! I just told myself this is not a situation where am removed from my comforts but a chance to learn something new and explore a lot about myself in how I can adapt to a new environment. It has been a wonderful experience since. yes I get homesick but try and weigh the positives more. Hope this helps Bro. :) You have a beautiful family and a very supportive wife so am sure you are in great hands in regards to your future. :) Consider this also a chance for your friend and family to visit you so that they can now experience a new world with you. :)

Well its up to you my friend as you know nothing is perfect, too much expectation leads to despair, and of course if you go to any country always bare in mind that things are not the same the way you used to back home things are different, the feelings you have means that you're not adoptable with situation here in the Philippines it does not suits you, its alright just follow your instinct where it leads you good luck on your way home peace

as time goes by you'll get used to the life you have now. the 1st or 2 years it's always a struggle but eventually, it will be alright. I have lived almost half of my life abroad away from family and friends. 1st in Singapore and now here in the US and I haven't seen my family and friends for a long time. Thank God for social media! trust me, it will be ok. just go out, immerse yourself in the culture, and enjoy!

It is very natural to feel homesick in a unfamiliar country. It is also natural to miss home. I think everyone goes through this stage until they establish their bearing in the new country. Filipino overseas workers go through this stage. I think it's great that you talk about it. I think it is therapeutic. Always remember you're not alone. I agree with Martin so go out there and make more friends and immerse yourself into the local culture. Invite your friends and families to the Philippines sir. You can always go back on vacation when the time comes.

Hi Tom. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can somehow empathize with you. It’s a big adjustment to live away from your place of birth. But with your happy personality you will adjust once you get the hang of it. Lots of foreign vloggers that you can meet up over there. When looking for a home, you would also need to consider the schools nearby. There’s a Brit vlogger who leaves in Leyte who shared the same loneliness of not being with his family. As for the Manila heat, I would do away with cotton and wear Technical shirts that wick away sweat. Or do what most Pinoy do in the provinces, raise their shirts up to their chest and show their bellies. Joke lang😁
    Good luck

It is very hot on the PH’s your on a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean surrounded
Nearby Asia ! You went from a very cold place to a very hot place now, lol ! It’s a good experience. Exciting places to go to once you find your forever home. You on an island of 7000 more to see, beautiful resorts 🌦️🌴aqua turquoise clear unbelievable waters 🌊beautiful nature all around 🌿🪷🎍🐒 and different languages & their culture crafts, all my gosh, you have a lot to keep you occupied. Yes, what you’ve been use to for yrs will be sentiments of memories back home. But to learn your wife’s native home is building up a whole new sets of extended families. You are fortunate that the Filipino’s are very kind, friendly, very courteous, & respectful warm natives. Not like other countries. Asia is backdoor to you, another whole cultures to see & it has pretty much developed modern in its cities like the PH’s has westernized accommodations even cheaper, from the times I’ve known it 50 yrs ago. Enjoy the new home place, just get involved with the people & learn the culture. You can always go back when the kids are grown up’s & be in your season of Spring & summer aged before you hit Winter & fall season Senior yrs age. Life is a blessing not perfect but good & learning experience. Enjoy !
