The Philippine eagle is one of the world's largest and rarest birds of prey. Fewer than 900 adults remain on just four Philippine islands. It took four weeks of searching, seven filming platforms, and five months, to capture this rare, intimate look at a Philippine eagle nest. Philippine eagle pairs mate for life and produce just one egg every two years. See how eagle parents feed and care for an eaglet, and watch the eaglet learn to fly, in this close-up look at a nest.
Learn about the Philippine Eagle Foundation's efforts to save the critically endangered species, and see more footage from the feature film Bird of Prey, for which the footage was filmed.

Help us avoid extinction of this beautiful eagle please!
beautiful success story; with greater breeding success, the forest will increase from 25%?
@101ers77 where did you get that
@101ers77 it's quite shameful to admit but some of my countrymen are still hunting for them for making them pets, selling, and worst, eating them. But it is also comforting that in the recent years people are doing their best efforts to help preserve, protect and increase their population 😊

They are so loyal that whenver their forest dies, they die with it😭
Yes, just want to inform everyone that it's not just us who do illegal logging here in our country. 🙂

mehjeannie i know right. This animal.. is just so hard to control. And people who hunt them need to stop. Probably just hunt some animals that are not endangered..

Yep, they're from PH alright 😂

My mom and dad had me and my 3 sisters every 2 years (gap). I cannot
I never thought eagles could be that attentive and gentle with their young. It’s the little things like the parents picking the meat into smaller pieces and handing it to their baby. It’s adorable and majestic. I hope that their numbers rise.
@@ready_get_set_go no it has nothin to do with being a filipino.
@@ready_get_set_go not really
their numbers will rise when there is no threat to their population. >>> What are the primary threats to its population?
Deforestation is the biggest threat to the species’ continued existence. A pair usually chooses to nest in large dipterocarp trees, and needs roughly 4,000 to 11,000 hectares of forest land (with an abundance of prey) to survive. In fact, the sight of this raptor often suggests a healthy, balanced forest ecosystem. As expected, illegal logging, resource depletion, global heating, and other contributors to the ongoing climate crisis are making things worse for the species. Aside from those, other major threats to the Philippine eagle are shooting and trapping; it is said that at least one eagle is killed per year because of shooting. And for a critically endangered species, that’s one too many.
They're the most good looking eagle in the world. They also have on-point family planning
We'll be calling it "Pheagle"
here in the philippines, it is called "haribon" in our language
@@_kookiedoe yeah right haribon derives from "hari ng mga ibon" which means "king of the birds" then later abbreviated to that. Just sharing so that others would know

I was just 6 years old when I first saw how majestic this eagle was. We used to live in the middle of a coconut and rice fields surrounded by exotic fruit trees. Unfortunately, the rice fields got infested by marsh rice rats (not sewer rats! eww). This incredible bird would just sit on top of a tree like a sniper patiently waiting for its next target and after every successful hunt, he would just stare at me with those beautiful eyes like he's saying something like, "Hey, I took care of the infestation for ya. Don't mind me, I'm just enjoying my meal.".
I wish I could go back in time and experience that again.

Fun fact: one of the reasons for the Philippine Eagles extinctions is due to its loyalty with it's partner, they say if said partner dies, the other partner will not even try to find and replace the partner it lost, it will prefers to die alone in old age than find another...
Sounds poetic and loyal, but due to this behavior it's hard to regrow the population of these species... I'm from the Phils and yeah I've been to the places where they preserve the eagles, you don't get to see a lot of them.... I've seen one at very old age being very solitary, they said it's partner died 8 years ago, and it changed his attitude drastically.

This reminded me of a sad story about a Philippine eagle name "Pamana" 3 years ago. She was shot back in 2012 and she was rescued, nursed... In April 2015 she was finally released back into wild. 2 months after that she was found dead with a gunshot on the chest. The whole country was infuriated and mourned her death. All the efforts and hardwork of the people in the sanctuary, gone just after 2 months. I hope people will learn from it, I'm just not sure if those poachers responsible were caught. 😢 "Pamana" btw means heritage, a legacy something like a gift your parents would give you in hopes that you will take good care of it. But it became just like that, killing Pamana was like losing a prized Jewel handed to you by your ancestors. You can check her story out here in TH-cam. 😖
