Interesting theory, but I'm pretty sure the writers are just ignoring continuity and going for a route that'll sell more toys. Being that we've had so few episodes about the dragons to begin with, there really is no reason to completely rewrite them. I think they only gave Sparky wings because making this hideous thing into a toy would look more like a dinosaur and we can't have that if we want it to sell! So gotta slap some wings on it to ensure people know its a dragon
I might have to agree with you on that. Going back to Friendship is Magic and when we first saw Spike, he didn't have wings till the Season 8 episode Molt Down.

The dragon egg hatching seemed to be triggered by HITCH’S magic, since earth ponies now have their own; and it seemed to react to that Also the egg came from the sea.. so maybe a sea dragon, rather than G4’s lava dragons? If that’s the case, this opens up some doors to new / different storytelling
The egg hatching randomly makes me think that it's the writers rushing out for Hitch's dad arc to begin. I always assumed that we would have spent some more time with just the egg as Hitch prepares for its hatching. Guess that didn't happen 🤔 I wonder if they can come up with an explanation about this moving forward.

Well we don't know how long that egg has been at the seafront so it could've been on it's way to hatching in the dragon lands and then a wave swept it up and away and it landed on the seafront and hitch putting the heat from the lamp onto it could've been the last amount of heat it needed to hatch
Dragons could still be around, after all the Dragon lands aren’t IN Equestria. They’re beyond Equestria, just like Griffin Stone and others. I always considered Equestria just the area inhabited by ponies, not everywhere. Which is also why I don’t think it should even be called Equestria anymore even. Like if any country were to break into three nations why and not be ruled by a single government why would it still be known as “x” whatever that country’s name was before it split? We don’t call North and South Korea just Korea anymore because it’s been split up and has different governments just saying and we do know from the hearts warming eve tale that Equestria is a land like any other country that was founded and there were other such places like Unicopia or whatever before before there was an Equestria. The two sisters don’t rule over everything anymore, why do they still act like Equestria is one big country?

The baby dragon could be defected from being stuck in the egg for who knows how long and ended up going into molt in the egg and when magic was restored it finally got the bare minim to finally hatch.
Here is another possible theory; what if Sparky isn't a dragon at all? There are various creatures in mythology that are very similar to dragons, so there is a possibility that the world in which Equestria exists most likely has such creatures, too. Such examples would include creatures like wyverns, as well as 'dragon hybrids' such as kirins. Of course, Sparky obviously is not a kirin, but it could be possible that he/she might be a wyvern and that Sunny simply confused the baby for a dragon. There are both feathered and scaled versions in myth. Also, let's not forget that Equestria versions of mythological creatures aren't always accurate (ex: changelings and bugbears). On top of this, there have been varying versions of Equestian creatures, such as the variations of kelpies that are found in the comics (there were both finned and land-based ones). Even though wyverns' wings and front limbs are usually portrayed in myth as the same limbs, similar to most natural flying creatures, that doesn't mean that the Equestrian version of them would have such limbs separate, the same as dragons. Heck, for all we know, Sparky might be an all-newly discovered creature, altogether. How would you react if Sparky suddenly developed a body part similar in function to a unicorn horn at some point in their life, or some crazy ability that is not found in dragons?
(Ignoring the wings 'controversy' as there could be some as yet unknown explanation for this), perhaps this new baby dragon is related to G4's Spike in some way, a direct descendent or actually an offspring of Spike, (if so, the new baby dragon could, later on, be the key to what happened and their whereabouts of Spike & maybe Twilight as well, etc, or perhaps the baby dragon is related to G2's unnamed 'dragon friend', though that would be too obscure me thinks..?) Alternatively, although this will sound a bit far fetched, what if this 'baby dragon' isn't really a dragon at all but maybe something or someone from long ago that's been turned into one and trapped inside the egg for generations, another pony perhaps or perhaps it's sort of a bit of both..?

By everything we've seen of Sparky... there's no show of him being purely animalistic. He's just a hatchling, a baby. This reminds me of the fic "The Bug in the Basement", where an EqG human found a baby changeling and had no reason to believe it was sentient until it actually started talking. I can see Hitch would be in for a bit of an awkward surprise when he realizes his little dragon buddy is actually a thinking, feeling creature... and that, by proxy, he's his dad now :3 And as for why Sparky has wings... I think that, in the before times, there's been quite a fair bit of alteration to the world. Everything from basic magic usage to individual animal species to even entire ecosystems. I would say that it is possible certain species were magically altered thanks to a greater understanding and access to magic. Case in point... I think that the three crystals aren't just a source of magic, but actually a way to access much more magic than was previously accessible - hence why we recently had a much clearer show of earth pony magic. And, perhaps, at one point, with ponies gaining a greater access to magical ability thanks to the three crystals, the dragons wanted the same. As standard of life increased, they weren't satisfied with waiting an odd number of years for their young to gain wings. They wanted them instantly. Magical biological alteration, possibly similar to what we had with flying dogs and raccorns (I think that 'unicoon' sounds better, tbh). And that could easily be an underlining theme here - overreliance on magic and possibly the hubris of its overuse. With how much they came to depend on the three crystals as a source of potent magic, when they got separated, the ponies then found themselves completely unable to use it. And as for how... it just makes me think of how much the shadowy alicorn is responsible for it. Currently, one theory that's going through my mind is that, at one point, she was on a rampage across the world and it got so bad that someone actually had to use the memory stone (as referenced by that one snip-bit of the ANG movie) to turn the individual pony tribes on one another by making them forget they were friends. Could also explain the lack of data and how hostility ensued against one another... but, if you could find things on the g4 ponies, then there should have been at least some written proof or pictures of the more recent times. Perhaps those were erased as well somehow? I said it before and I'll say it again - the more one actually prods the fact that g4 and g5 are connected, the darker this world gets. ...though, yeah, I've got nothing concrete for Sparky's egg just hatching like that. Perhaps it's part of Hitch's magic and it had an effect on it? Granted, there was a reasonable outburst of magical energy prior to that. A lot of guessing on our part and not much showing on theirs, sadly.

What if the dragons are ment to hatch naturally with wings but a lot of heat/magic quickens the hatching process but not the growing process. So like they are hatched way to early, where as if it’s left to nature with no help the dragon dosnt hatch until its grown wings so it can defend itself properly?
Personally, the obvious answer for the changelings is they just went back into hiding among the public, just seems like the obvious thing to do. Would not be surprised if that turns out to be the case, weather they fully revert to Emotional parasites is anyone's guess.

I like your theory. Here are a few of mine. 1. "Sparky" as a name or even temporary nickname could imply either fire or electricity. The fact that the G5 baby dragon is born with wings and horns could reflect a similar, but not quite the same breed or species of dragon. 2. There is the possibility that the wings and horns were an artistic choice similar to cutie marks on being on one side with the new 3D style (not crazy about this one, but it is still a possibility). 3. The species not portrayed as "animals" (like ponies and dragons as opposed to birds) in the G4 series had a babbling phase, so this will hopefully change with a little time and effort. 4. The dragons from G4 may have left out of necessity. If they had to leave for a natural disaster or other unavoidable struggle, they may have left without saying goodbye or it was noted in history but was not considered as important compared to other issues ponies and the others were struggling with during or since the event. Kind of like the wendigos being brushed aside unless mentioned in lore or when actually seen. 5. Other species may or may not have retained friendship with each other but chose to leave any area where ponies resided after seeing them fall so far or wanting to avoid being injured from the pony's fight. The three tribes may have had some sense of the others existing, yet were still willing to stay away from each other for the majority of the first G5 film and even believed misinformation about each other based on word of mouth despite having technology like smartphones, so using the same approach with other species doesn't seem that farfetched.
Nice theory, but I seriously doubt that the dragons in Equestria now have the intelligence of a wild animal. If you ask me, Sparky the baby dragon, has the intelligence of a baby, because he is a baby. That means as he grows up he becomes more mature and learns to talk, like Spike did. Hitch isn’t Sparky’s owner because Sparky is not his pet. Hitch is Sparky’s dad because Sparky is his son. So let’s just think about that. And by the way, let’s not forget about Griffins, yaks, changelings, hippogriffs, Discord and other creatures of Equestria that could/will come back.🐴💛🛡🐲💚👶
If dragons has a slowest lifespan then Spike might be alive and even bigger...tougher and his personality might be...different since Equestria changed, Twilight Sparkle and her friends...gone.
You could say that once the ponies started fighting each other the non pony races bailed. Or the ponies drove them out before turning on each other (this sound more likely). Either way the dragons left and haven't returned. That's if they aren't just throwing continuity to wind to sell creepy baby dragon toys
7:28 about that part, not only did photographs exist but the Mane 6 themselves are preserved history wise in stained glass windows. Not to mention the claim that "their interpersonal relationships and personalities are preserved down to every last detail" seems kind of strange, given that the mares were purposefully created with broad and common character tropes (most associated with girls in some way), so the group showed those basic tropes in their play. And all we saw from what Sunny's history says is that the 6 were best friends which, of course that detail would stick in history? It's one of the group's signature traits.

@@nightshroud9671 Well i've heard that a lot fans are speculating that Sparky might be Spike's descendant, and it definitely would be something if that turned out to be true.
They did give spike a backstory in the cartoons- somewhat. While the origins of his egg are still a mystery we know his origin story as an egg used in twilight's magic test where- in order to be accepted into the princess' magic school twilight had to hatch a random egg they presented. Twilight hatched the egg and- in much later episodes- was shown that spike grew up with twilight as the forgettable brother/pet of the family in the flashbacks of that sibling rivalry episode. I don't know if the comics flushed out his backstory or anything since I haven't read them (you'll have to ask elsewhere). My theory regarding the possible extinction of dragon kind in equestria had to do with the vanishing of magic as dragons are a heavily magical species. With magic vanishing dragons would likely lose much of their unique abilities- true flight, fire breathing, and even elemental resistances. Most would probably perish due to this sudden change and those that did survive had to adapt to a world they no longer fit in. Thus dragons mutated several distinct characteristics to aid in their survival- eggs hatching more naturally with hatchlings having horns and wings to better aid in their survival. Post magipocalypse dragons likely were rendered as more draconic flying lizards (the lizards that famously adapted to glide like flying squirrels) though only the Dev's know if this is true or not.

Hitch had the dragon egg by a heating lamp for who knows how long about almost a whole duration of the special leading to believe that because it was in The heating lamp for so long it probably most of absorbed like the heat by like the lava or by magic just a slower rate
I think it was from both the heating lamp and magic because like you said, the egg being under the lamp for a long time helped it hatch, but it could have also been from the power of the crystal right after the crisis at the Maretime Bay festival was averted and the power from the crystal could have also given the dragon its wings without the need for The Molt as a bonus!

something i want to say, as a theory on how g4 transitioned to g5, is that at the end of season 9 in fim, all the earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi are divided because of cozy glow and the others, yes they are brought back together, but if some villains came up, after twilight and he friends were gone, its very well possible that they were divided again like that. i do not have the exact episode, but i remember that the pegasi and unicorns had gone their seperate ways and werent letting earth ponies into safety. in the final battle, all species show up to help. if another battle happened with new villains, and they didnt have the guide of twilight and her friends, they may not have been able to fight them off and instead fought each other trying to figure out how to protect themselves and out of fear i believe they seperated and didnt allow anyone else around. as for the dragons, i think after they left the others, something happened and they didt have the help from the ponies anymore, or maybe a poor leader. i think it caused dragons to then split up again and without the help from all the others they eventually died off to just a few. please correct me if any of my theory is wrong! i havent watched g4 in a while lol
From the movie, it seem like the different ponies have gone so long without seeing any other that they may think those ponies dont exist. I think there MIGHT have been some sparks but it was mostly a "we live in our own spots." Also the Wingoes would of froze all of Equestria with that infighting given how little disunity caused the crystals to glitch out, so it would show a mostly fighting free seperation.
Turns out that the dragon's name is Sparky. If you look at the credits for the special, they show the actors five main ponies, and "Sparky." Every other character is just a supporting role.
I have this theory that once the ponies separated, so did all the other creatures, cause the ponies were their inspiration. But it begs the question? Are the other creatures still friends with each other?
So 2 things, firstly the dragon is called Sparky Sparkeroni according to the toys. Also, my theory is that the evil Alicorn is named Misty, since a voice actor was credited in Make your Mark with that name beside them

My theory is that dragons can still talk but just later in life. Because of Hitch's line "I can understand animals, but I can't seem to understand this little guy." If they did devolve to animal intelligence, Hitch would understand him. Idk though.
Maybe evolution? Dragons evolved to just having their wings the moment they are born, like how Pegasus have gained multicolored wings and how all ponies can use hooves like hands. Evolution seems like the best answer when magic is gone nature did its work
could also be that dragon eggs need magic to hatch but apart from that the heat is to help them mature. So if that is true then this baby dragon could have wings due to them being stuck in their egg for so long that they tecnincly went through the molt without knowing it. I mean baby humans have to be born before we are fully ready for the mothers benafit so its not out of the question that applying heat could have been a thing that was brought to dragon culture after they begain to get together as they might not want to wait extremly long for their egg to hatch. Well dragons mat have already existed in equestria, they just never came to maritime bay. Something bad happened to Sparks’s parents, they lost his egg, and it washed up on Maretime bay and was found by the main 5. As for the alicorn, she may have been corrupted by so much power to the point where one of the previous princesses had to separate the gems and kill magic to prevent her from becalming too dangerous. She is an alicorn in race and lifespan, but doesn’t have magic

6:00 it would make sense for there to have had to have been a big freeze because dragon eggs that require less heat to hatch would be more likely to survive a freeze.
Here's my theory Dragons are of two societal types: Those which live in a village like community and those in isolation. If you've read mlp friends forever issue 14 you'll learn that not all dragons live like garble and Amber, but there's a more sophisticated community in fillydelphia (we also get to meet spikes crush a fangirl named mina). Everyone knows that even though dragons and ponies live in harmony they aren't exactly loyal to each other. I believe when Equestria started to fall dragons may have lent a helping claw at first, but later giving up, they could have also cut all ties with them. And we know these g5 ponies have been more engrossed in hating each other than finding out about their past, coz do you think, changelings, dragons, yacks etc would have just disappeared without a trace?! Now let's talk about that egg. I have no clue how it got all the way to maretime bay without being damaged, but, I think I can explain the hatching. Did you notice how the egg sparkled when it hatched? Regular dragon eggs simply hatch. The magic that gave unicorns power may have also affected that egg, plus it could have mutated it giving it wings. I'm just guessing but it's still a possibility.
And what if the big calamity that broke the pony’s apart was the wendigo coming back as pony’s turned on each other, it’s been shown they’ve done something like it before. I wouldn’t be surprised if history repeated itself
Tadpoles, when faced with little food, absorb their trails faster. It could be that environmental stress pushed the developing dragon past the first molt stage. Given it washed up on shore, its development would likely have been uneven in some way, shape, or form. That could cause the effect of a hatchling that has an advanced body-type as it may be an advantage to be able to leave a colder environment sooner. Consider the cycle of locust wings as well.
8:55 I think she might have been a corruption or villain which had to be stopped in order to save equestria and this might explain why Discord wanted to stop magic in the upcoming comics.
My theory on how the dragon died It is shown on Multiple occasions, that dragons eat gems, and most gems are magical, which probably feeds the dragons, so when the magic disappeared, they would all die out from starvation

Early rumors related to Gen 5 scripts included references to Spike now being the king of the Dragon/ Griffon nation. How a dragon could successfully breed with a Griffon is beyond me, but Spike was "good friends" with Gabby the Griffon in season 9. This could be a new hybrid dragon/Griffon?
What would happen if Sparky was from a different Dragon Land across the oceans and not the same one from the G4 timeline? If it's the same Dragon Land, Do you think we will see what happened to Dragon Lord Ember and the other Dragons along with why they drifted away from the ponies?
Some of my theories is that dragons went into hiding after the whole magic fiasco, since the three pony tribes didn’t really travel outside of main Equestria out of fear of being attacked by the other tribes. Sparky either was already close to hatching and it was simply plot convenience or the recent surge of magic that happened in the special caused him to hatch. Perhaps dragons evolved to be born with wings and horns in order to save energy and time so more of them can fly away or defend themselves. The reason Hitch can’t understand Sparky isn’t because he’s an animal but because he’s a baby who can’t communicate in any verbal way yet.
Is Sparky the Dragon going to be treated better in the G5 universe unlike how Spike was treated in the G4 timeline since that Dragon just recently hatched and is just an infant child?

if your guessing it was over 800 years. where do you think Twilight is then? I mean theory is Celestia and Luna were over 1000 years old and yet still very young, So it was seen that they age differently.
Ya know what would be a great explanation and would make up for the whole G5 so far? If in one ep the main five go to canterlought discover a statue of twilight but it was after test like the tree of friendship gave the other creatures then near the middle or end of the ep the find themselves at twilights statue do a friendship hug or something then the statue begins to Crack then release twilight from her statue then she tells the explanation that someone froze her and possibly spike (or maybe the other princesses or main 6) then they'd have to explore all equestria and maybe beyond to find the other statues. The crystals coudve been a last resort for twilight. . This is a theory aswell.
What irks my chain is that the Equestria girls are in our current timeframe and connect to the G4 world. Would that mean that humans have advanced in our evolutionary Ascension? Or are we still the idiots who think a mystical being can solve our problems with praise. Or are we now in the timeline of Star Trek? Explain that.

The REAL QUESTION is, "do we even want this thing to talk?" I mean there's A LOT of questions, so narrowing it to one seems hard, but I mean, look at it, it looks like a little round nosed goblin with it's freaky little ears, dude, I mean it was a bigger deal when flurry was born with wings (the other MLP baby abomination) but I mean, we knew what we had with her, she was just a cute baby pony meant for some extra plot devices and probably some figurine sales, but this creature, this "dragon" (not yet convinced) just thinking what kind of goofy ass silly voice are you going to put behind that face, that is going to make him feel more like an authentic dragon, it's just not gonna happen I don't think, I mean maybe, but I think that will lead g.5 in the direction of cringe, it, I'm not calling it sparky, doesn't look like it even belongs in the show, I mean they have "the eyes" which in retrospective were made to large leading them to believe giving him a giant ass head with tiny little ears and a pair of little wings was going to look cute, I know A LOT of dragons are "disproportionate" I've seen g.4 but they are in a unique beastly kind of way, that you would still look at them and say, "dragon", I LITERALLY see ppl in the comments speculating if it's some kind of mutant half breed, and honestly, it is the first impression you get from it...
Fact is...I don't know if this unicorn at the end is really bad. She hasn't done anything yet which makes me think that she's evil. All she does is says that she needs to get something they've got back. This could be the dragon hatchling. It also strikes me as unique that she's lived for so long. Since all the other unicorns, pegasus and earth ponies seem to age. But this one unicorn has survived for who knows how many generations and without unicorn magic. So she must've made some sort of deal with I'm guessing must be the dragons because their magic wasn't effected. The dragons keep her alive somehow while she does an important service for them. She might be a dragon caretaker, who knows. Or she keeps their location secret so that the dragons can live safely and without worry from whatever happens on the outside. If she is a caretaker and knew an egg had become lost, she probably would've wanted to find it. And in her process of searching for the missing egg she found the earth ponies and kind of learned about what was going on their. Of course her main concern is probably bringing that dragon hatchling back to the rest of it's kind and she's really not too concerned with what the other ponies are doing. Because she's been with the dragons for so long, she might not see herself as a unicorn anymore but probably thinks that she's more of a dragon like the dragons she's been with for hundreds of years and who knows how many lifetimes she's been there.
That might have been the point of Hitch's line in the special (from a narrative perspective): to show that the mane 5 don't know much about dragons and think they are not sapient, even though they are.

overanalyzing and looking into stories like this only really works when the writing has effort put into it, but i doubt g5 is really that deep since the writers themselves don't seem to know or care about g4
Sparky just hatched, so compared to the other animals intelligence, Sparky doesn't have a lot yet. As time goes by it's likely that Sparky will get smarter. Also, Spike's never had wings before G4, and Spike's reason for getting wings is kind of a retcon for his character, while Sparky is a newer character. so it's hard to find an argument for Spike and Sparky's differences. Also also, I think the Rita Repulsa idea makes the alicorn more interesting.

I like to think Spike is still around and possibly even Dragon Lord. After magic was lost he had the Dragon's either go underground or move far away from the pony part of Equestria but once he saw Magic was back (come on anyone could probably see the magic rainbow flowing over the sky) he sent a baby to kind test to see if things could go back to the old ways
What if Princess Misery Business was the one who arranged for Hitch to find the dragon egg? Maybe she's playing gambit roulette and using baby dragons for her nefarious purposes. Remind you of anyone? In any case, we don't even have all the answers for what is the deal with dragons (especially Spike) in G4, so I don't even know where to begin in G5. But it seemed kind of obvious that ponies haven't seen dragons in a long time anyway, otherwise they would be terrified of them, just as they were terrified of each other. And Sunny said in the special that ponies never left their hometowns before the events of the movie, so they don't really know what is out there in Equestria at large.
But the wings could it only mean tht genes just made it happen because genes are weird it changes through centuries and could mean tht they became winged dragons when they r in their eggs and they might want to sell toys too sooo yeah

Interesting theory, but I'm pretty sure the writers are just ignoring continuity and going for a route that'll sell more toys. Being that we've had so few episodes about the dragons to begin with, there really is no reason to completely rewrite them. I think they only gave Sparky wings because making this hideous thing into a toy would look more like a dinosaur and we can't have that if we want it to sell! So gotta slap some wings on it to ensure people know its a dragon

The dragon egg hatching seemed to be triggered by HITCH’S magic, since earth ponies now have their own; and it seemed to react to that
Also the egg came from the sea.. so maybe a sea dragon, rather than G4’s lava dragons? If that’s the case, this opens up some doors to new / different storytelling
The egg hatching randomly makes me think that it's the writers rushing out for Hitch's dad arc to begin. I always assumed that we would have spent some more time with just the egg as Hitch prepares for its hatching. Guess that didn't happen 🤔

Dragons could still be around, after all the Dragon lands aren’t IN Equestria. They’re beyond Equestria, just like Griffin Stone and others. I always considered Equestria just the area inhabited by ponies, not everywhere. Which is also why I don’t think it should even be called Equestria anymore even. Like if any country were to break into three nations why and not be ruled by a single government why would it still be known as “x” whatever that country’s name was before it split? We don’t call North and South Korea just Korea anymore because it’s been split up and has different governments just saying and we do know from the hearts warming eve tale that Equestria is a land like any other country that was founded and there were other such places like Unicopia or whatever before before there was an Equestria. The two sisters don’t rule over everything anymore, why do they still act like Equestria is one big country?
Saddle Arabia is also a place of ponies/horses. Equestria did indeed seem like pony utopia though, the other species were a tiny percentage

The baby dragon could be defected from being stuck in the egg for who knows how long and ended up going into molt in the egg and when magic was restored it finally got the bare minim to finally hatch.
Here is another possible theory; what if Sparky isn't a dragon at all? There are various creatures in mythology that are very similar to dragons, so there is a possibility that the world in which Equestria exists most likely has such creatures, too. Such examples would include creatures like wyverns, as well as 'dragon hybrids' such as kirins.
Of course, Sparky obviously is not a kirin, but it could be possible that he/she might be a wyvern and that Sunny simply confused the baby for a dragon. There are both feathered and scaled versions in myth. Also, let's not forget that Equestria versions of mythological creatures aren't always accurate (ex: changelings and bugbears). On top of this, there have been varying versions of Equestian creatures, such as the variations of kelpies that are found in the comics (there were both finned and land-based ones). Even though wyverns' wings and front limbs are usually portrayed in myth as the same limbs, similar to most natural flying creatures, that doesn't mean that the Equestrian version of them would have such limbs separate, the same as dragons.
Heck, for all we know, Sparky might be an all-newly discovered creature, altogether. How would you react if Sparky suddenly developed a body part similar in function to a unicorn horn at some point in their life, or some crazy ability that is not found in dragons?
(Ignoring the wings 'controversy' as there could be some as yet unknown explanation for this), perhaps this new baby dragon is related to G4's Spike in some way, a direct descendent or actually an offspring of Spike, (if so, the new baby dragon could, later on, be the key to what happened and their whereabouts of Spike & maybe Twilight as well, etc, or perhaps the baby dragon is related to G2's unnamed 'dragon friend', though that would be too obscure me thinks..?) Alternatively, although this will sound a bit far fetched, what if this 'baby dragon' isn't really a dragon at all but maybe something or someone from long ago that's been turned into one and trapped inside the egg for generations, another pony perhaps or perhaps it's sort of a bit of both..?

By everything we've seen of Sparky... there's no show of him being purely animalistic. He's just a hatchling, a baby. This reminds me of the fic "The Bug in the Basement", where an EqG human found a baby changeling and had no reason to believe it was sentient until it actually started talking. I can see Hitch would be in for a bit of an awkward surprise when he realizes his little dragon buddy is actually a thinking, feeling creature... and that, by proxy, he's his dad now :3
And as for why Sparky has wings... I think that, in the before times, there's been quite a fair bit of alteration to the world. Everything from basic magic usage to individual animal species to even entire ecosystems. I would say that it is possible certain species were magically altered thanks to a greater understanding and access to magic. Case in point... I think that the three crystals aren't just a source of magic, but actually a way to access much more magic than was previously accessible - hence why we recently had a much clearer show of earth pony magic. And, perhaps, at one point, with ponies gaining a greater access to magical ability thanks to the three crystals, the dragons wanted the same. As standard of life increased, they weren't satisfied with waiting an odd number of years for their young to gain wings. They wanted them instantly. Magical biological alteration, possibly similar to what we had with flying dogs and raccorns (I think that 'unicoon' sounds better, tbh).
And that could easily be an underlining theme here - overreliance on magic and possibly the hubris of its overuse. With how much they came to depend on the three crystals as a source of potent magic, when they got separated, the ponies then found themselves completely unable to use it. And as for how... it just makes me think of how much the shadowy alicorn is responsible for it. Currently, one theory that's going through my mind is that, at one point, she was on a rampage across the world and it got so bad that someone actually had to use the memory stone (as referenced by that one snip-bit of the ANG movie) to turn the individual pony tribes on one another by making them forget they were friends. Could also explain the lack of data and how hostility ensued against one another... but, if you could find things on the g4 ponies, then there should have been at least some written proof or pictures of the more recent times. Perhaps those were erased as well somehow?
I said it before and I'll say it again - the more one actually prods the fact that g4 and g5 are connected, the darker this world gets.
...though, yeah, I've got nothing concrete for Sparky's egg just hatching like that. Perhaps it's part of Hitch's magic and it had an effect on it? Granted, there was a reasonable outburst of magical energy prior to that. A lot of guessing on our part and not much showing on theirs, sadly.
Also, evolution is a thing.
I mean like how us human changed and became the homosaibiens we are today.

What if the dragons are ment to hatch naturally with wings but a lot of heat/magic quickens the hatching process but not the growing process.

Personally, the obvious answer for the changelings is they just went back into hiding among the public, just seems like the obvious thing to do. Would not be surprised if that turns out to be the case, weather they fully revert to Emotional parasites is anyone's guess.

I like your theory. Here are a few of mine.
1. "Sparky" as a name or even temporary nickname could imply either fire or electricity. The fact that the G5 baby dragon is born with wings and horns could reflect a similar, but not quite the same breed or species of dragon.
2. There is the possibility that the wings and horns were an artistic choice similar to cutie marks on being on one side with the new 3D style (not crazy about this one, but it is still a possibility).
3. The species not portrayed as "animals" (like ponies and dragons as opposed to birds) in the G4 series had a babbling phase, so this will hopefully change with a little time and effort.
4. The dragons from G4 may have left out of necessity. If they had to leave for a natural disaster or other unavoidable struggle, they may have left without saying goodbye or it was noted in history but was not considered as important compared to other issues ponies and the others were struggling with during or since the event. Kind of like the wendigos being brushed aside unless mentioned in lore or when actually seen.
5. Other species may or may not have retained friendship with each other but chose to leave any area where ponies resided after seeing them fall so far or wanting to avoid being injured from the pony's fight. The three tribes may have had some sense of the others existing, yet were still willing to stay away from each other for the majority of the first G5 film and even believed misinformation about each other based on word of mouth despite having technology like smartphones, so using the same approach with other species doesn't seem that farfetched.
Nice theory, but I seriously doubt that the dragons in Equestria now have the intelligence of a wild animal. If you ask me, Sparky the baby dragon, has the intelligence of a baby, because he is a baby. That means as he grows up he becomes more mature and learns to talk, like Spike did. Hitch isn’t Sparky’s owner because Sparky is not his pet. Hitch is Sparky’s dad because Sparky is his son. So let’s just think about that. And by the way, let’s not forget about Griffins, yaks, changelings, hippogriffs, Discord and other creatures of Equestria that could/will come back.🐴💛🛡🐲💚👶

If dragons has a slowest lifespan then Spike might be alive and even bigger...tougher and his personality might be...different since Equestria changed, Twilight Sparkle and her friends...gone.
You could say that once the ponies started fighting each other the non pony races bailed. Or the ponies drove them out before turning on each other (this sound more likely). Either way the dragons left and haven't returned. That's if they aren't just throwing continuity to wind to sell creepy baby dragon toys
7:28 about that part, not only did photographs exist but the Mane 6 themselves are preserved history wise in stained glass windows. Not to mention the claim that "their interpersonal relationships and personalities are preserved down to every last detail" seems kind of strange, given that the mares were purposefully created with broad and common character tropes (most associated with girls in some way), so the group showed those basic tropes in their play. And all we saw from what Sunny's history says is that the 6 were best friends which, of course that detail would stick in history? It's one of the group's signature traits.
And yet Spike was completely forgotten..

They did give spike a backstory in the cartoons- somewhat. While the origins of his egg are still a mystery we know his origin story as an egg used in twilight's magic test where- in order to be accepted into the princess' magic school twilight had to hatch a random egg they presented. Twilight hatched the egg and- in much later episodes- was shown that spike grew up with twilight as the forgettable brother/pet of the family in the flashbacks of that sibling rivalry episode. I don't know if the comics flushed out his backstory or anything since I haven't read them (you'll have to ask elsewhere).
My theory regarding the possible extinction of dragon kind in equestria had to do with the vanishing of magic as dragons are a heavily magical species. With magic vanishing dragons would likely lose much of their unique abilities- true flight, fire breathing, and even elemental resistances. Most would probably perish due to this sudden change and those that did survive had to adapt to a world they no longer fit in. Thus dragons mutated several distinct characteristics to aid in their survival- eggs hatching more naturally with hatchlings having horns and wings to better aid in their survival. Post magipocalypse dragons likely were rendered as more draconic flying lizards (the lizards that famously adapted to glide like flying squirrels) though only the Dev's know if this is true or not.

Hitch had the dragon egg by a heating lamp for who knows how long about almost a whole duration of the special leading to believe that because it was in The heating lamp for so long it probably most of absorbed like the heat by like the lava or by magic just a slower rate
I think it was from both the heating lamp and magic because like you said, the egg being under the lamp for a long time helped it hatch, but it could have also been from the power of the crystal right after the crisis at the Maretime Bay festival was averted and the power from the crystal could have also given the dragon its wings without the need for The Molt as a bonus!

something i want to say, as a theory on how g4 transitioned to g5, is that at the end of season 9 in fim, all the earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi are divided because of cozy glow and the others, yes they are brought back together, but if some villains came up, after twilight and he friends were gone, its very well possible that they were divided again like that. i do not have the exact episode, but i remember that the pegasi and unicorns had gone their seperate ways and werent letting earth ponies into safety. in the final battle, all species show up to help. if another battle happened with new villains, and they didnt have the guide of twilight and her friends, they may not have been able to fight them off and instead fought each other trying to figure out how to protect themselves and out of fear i believe they seperated and didnt allow anyone else around. as for the dragons, i think after they left the others, something happened and they didt have the help from the ponies anymore, or maybe a poor leader. i think it caused dragons to then split up again and without the help from all the others they eventually died off to just a few.

From the movie, it seem like the different ponies have gone so long without seeing any other that they may think those ponies dont exist.
I think there MIGHT have been some sparks but it was mostly a "we live in our own spots."
Also the Wingoes would of froze all of Equestria with that infighting given how little disunity caused the crystals to glitch out, so it would show a mostly fighting free seperation.
Turns out that the dragon's name is Sparky. If you look at the credits for the special, they show the actors five main ponies, and "Sparky." Every other character is just a supporting role.
I have this theory that once the ponies separated, so did all the other creatures, cause the ponies were their inspiration. But it begs the question? Are the other creatures still friends with each other?
To the non-ponies, ponies are more like their overlords.

Maybe evolution? Dragons evolved to just having their wings the moment they are born, like how Pegasus have gained multicolored wings and how all ponies can use hooves like hands. Evolution seems like the best answer when magic is gone nature did its work
could also be that dragon eggs need magic to hatch but apart from that the heat is to help them mature. So if that is true then this baby dragon could have wings due to them being stuck in their egg for so long that they tecnincly went through the molt without knowing it.
I mean baby humans have to be born before we are fully ready for the mothers benafit so its not out of the question that applying heat could have been a thing that was brought to dragon culture after they begain to get together as they might not want to wait extremly long for their egg to hatch.

Well dragons mat have already existed in equestria, they just never came to maritime bay. Something bad happened to Sparks’s parents, they lost his egg, and it washed up on Maretime bay and was found by the main 5. As for the alicorn, she may have been corrupted by so much power to the point where one of the previous princesses had to separate the gems and kill magic to prevent her from becalming too dangerous. She is an alicorn in race and lifespan, but doesn’t have magic
Well, that's because they're two completely different dragons. Good color choices on Sparky, ugli-bad face and stupid full name. Dragons have been around MLP-land in some form or another throughout every generation. Recently discovered G2 had a few.
6:00 it would make sense for there to have had to have been a big freeze because dragon eggs that require less heat to hatch would be more likely to survive a freeze.
Here's my theory
Dragons are of two societal types: Those which live in a village like community and those in isolation. If you've read mlp friends forever issue 14 you'll learn that not all dragons live like garble and Amber, but there's a more sophisticated community in fillydelphia (we also get to meet spikes crush a fangirl named mina). Everyone knows that even though dragons and ponies live in harmony they aren't exactly loyal to each other. I believe when Equestria started to fall dragons may have lent a helping claw at first, but later giving up, they could have also cut all ties with them. And we know these g5 ponies have been more engrossed in hating each other than finding out about their past, coz do you think, changelings, dragons, yacks etc would have just disappeared without a trace?!
Now let's talk about that egg. I have no clue how it got all the way to maretime bay without being damaged, but, I think I can explain the hatching. Did you notice how the egg sparkled when it hatched? Regular dragon eggs simply hatch. The magic that gave unicorns power may have also affected that egg, plus it could have mutated it giving it wings.
I'm just guessing but it's still a possibility.
And what if the big calamity that broke the pony’s apart was the wendigo coming back as pony’s turned on each other, it’s been shown they’ve done something like it before.

As much as I still believe that G4 is only religion/myth/legend in the realm of G5, the ice age idea is so perfect!
Tadpoles, when faced with little food, absorb their trails faster. It could be that environmental stress pushed the developing dragon past the first molt stage. Given it washed up on shore, its development would likely have been uneven in some way, shape, or form. That could cause the effect of a hatchling that has an advanced body-type as it may be an advantage to be able to leave a colder environment sooner. Consider the cycle of locust wings as well.

It is shown on Multiple occasions, that dragons eat gems, and most gems are magical, which probably feeds the dragons, so when the magic disappeared, they would all die out from starvation

What if this isn't a dragon? What if this is a hybrid? Early rumors related to Gen 5 scripts included references to Spike now being the king of the Dragon/ Griffon nation.
How a dragon could successfully breed with a Griffon is beyond me, but Spike was "good friends" with Gabby the Griffon in season 9.

What would happen if Sparky was from a different Dragon Land across the oceans and not the same one from the G4 timeline? If it's the same Dragon Land, Do you think we will see what happened to Dragon Lord Ember and the other Dragons along with why they drifted away from the ponies?
Some of my theories is that dragons went into hiding after the whole magic fiasco, since the three pony tribes didn’t really travel outside of main Equestria out of fear of being attacked by the other tribes. Sparky either was already close to hatching and it was simply plot convenience or the recent surge of magic that happened in the special caused him to hatch. Perhaps dragons evolved to be born with wings and horns in order to save energy and time so more of them can fly away or defend themselves. The reason Hitch can’t understand Sparky isn’t because he’s an animal but because he’s a baby who can’t communicate in any verbal way yet.
Is Sparky the Dragon going to be treated better in the G5 universe unlike how Spike was treated in the G4 timeline since that Dragon just recently hatched and is just an infant child?

Ya know what would be a great explanation and would make up for the whole G5 so far? If in one ep the main five go to canterlought discover a statue of twilight but it was after test like the tree of friendship gave the other creatures then near the middle or end of the ep the find themselves at twilights statue do a friendship hug or something then the statue begins to Crack then release twilight from her statue then she tells the explanation that someone froze her and possibly spike (or maybe the other princesses or main 6) then they'd have to explore all equestria and maybe beyond to find the other statues. The crystals coudve been a last resort for twilight. . This is a theory aswell.
What I liked specifically was the theory that Opaline made an artificial race of dragons to serve as reinforcements I believe.
What irks my chain is that the Equestria girls are in our current timeframe and connect to the G4 world. Would that mean that humans have advanced in our evolutionary Ascension? Fact is...I don't know if this unicorn at the end is really bad. She hasn't done anything yet which makes me think that she's evil. All she does is says that she needs to get something they've got back. This could be the dragon hatchling. It also strikes me as unique that she's lived for so long. Since all the other unicorns, pegasus and earth ponies seem to age. But this one unicorn has survived for who knows how many generations and without unicorn magic. So she must've made some sort of deal with I'm guessing must be the dragons because their magic wasn't effected. The dragons keep her alive somehow while she does an important service for them. She might be a dragon caretaker, who knows. Or she keeps their location secret so that the dragons can live safely and without worry from whatever happens on the outside. If she is a caretaker and knew an egg had become lost, she probably would've wanted to find it. And in her process of searching for the missing egg she found the earth ponies and kind of learned about what was going on their. Of course her main concern is probably bringing that dragon hatchling back to the rest of it's kind and she's really not too concerned with what the other ponies are doing. Because she's been with the dragons for so long, she might not see herself as a unicorn anymore but probably thinks that she's more of a dragon like the dragons she's been with for hundreds of years and who knows how many lifetimes she's been there.
All dragons must die, including Spike. They're evil creatures bent on burning Equestria until there is nothing left.

That might have been the point of Hitch's line in the special (from a narrative perspective): to show that the mane 5 don't know much about dragons and think they are not sapient, even though they are.

Hi, and my theory Laster Dawn (peuple Twilight's) is mom Sunny
Sparky just hatched, so compared to the other animals intelligence, Sparky doesn't have a lot yet. As time goes by it's likely that Sparky will get smarter. Also, Spike's never had wings before G4, and Spike's reason for getting wings is kind of a retcon for his character, while Sparky is a newer character. so it's hard to find an argument for Spike and Sparky's differences.
Also also, I think the Rita Repulsa idea makes the alicorn more interesting.

I like to think Spike is still around and possibly even Dragon Lord. After magic was lost he had the Dragon's either go underground or move far away from the pony part of Equestria but once he saw Magic was back (come on anyone could probably see the magic rainbow flowing over the sky) he sent a baby to kind test to see if things could go back to the old ways

In any case, we don't even have all the answers for what is the deal with dragons (especially Spike) in G4, so I don't even know where to begin in G5. But it seemed kind of obvious that ponies haven't seen dragons in a long time anyway, otherwise they would be terrified of them, just as they were terrified of each other. And Sunny said in the special that ponies never left their hometowns before the events of the movie, so they don't really know what is out there in Equestria at large.
But the wings could it only mean tht genes just made it happen because genes are weird it changes through centuries and could mean tht they became winged dragons when they r in their eggs and they might want to sell toys too sooo yeah
