This one’s really under appreciated. Peter’s growth and journey throughout this movie is REALLY compelling, and that bit after the bridge scene where he just looks at the mask is iconic.
This is the worst adaptation how do you talk about Peter's growth like Natalie said he was cool and cute and had a beautiful woman chasing him down not the Spider-Man we know!
@@blackpowder99 do you read spider-man comics? Because in the original stan lee comics peter wasn’t a shy kid. He was a jerk. His lesson was don’t be a super jerk
I think Andrew actually captured Spider-Man and Peter the best of the three. Peter is not supposed to be really reserved like Tobey was or look dorky. He started off dressing dorky in the comics but that ended pretty quickly. And he always had a chip on his shoulder and kind of an impatient layer that this version has. And the Gwen here is more in tune with the comics as she was with Peter first and is a very smart student. Tobey’s movies, villain, and the rest of his supporting cast were better though.
Came here to say this exactly. I think people have replaced the actual source material with the aesthetics and vibes of the Raimi trilogy. Which I get, but also it kinda screwed over Andrew a bit I think.
I get what you mean but I'm personally not a big fan of the super Chad casanova ladies man who has it all from the 80s-90s of the comics either. There's gotta be a good balance between total dorky outcast and the weird suave gigachad James Dean type we got in those comics.
Suit minus the mask, because I think no Spider-man in history was taking his hood off so often as this one :D Almost every scene you were reminded that this is Andy Garfield Spider-man and not Tobey.
Andrew Garfield was criminally underrated as Spidey and I'm just so glad he's finally getting all the love he deserves. While I enjoy all 3 Andrew's version will always be my Peter Parker!! 🥰
@@Eidlones He definitely is now, but back when his movies first came out it wasn't like this at all. Granted he did get some praise for his Spiderman but hardly any for his Peter, plus people weren't nearly as pointed as they are now about seperating his performance from the bad aspects of the films.
Same!! Might be because that version was the one I grew up with and that I saw in theaters at they were coming out, but although I love all three and think Tom Holland is amazing (I am incapable of saying who "did it best" or rank them etc) and that his version was the most entertaining in terms of Peter being an actual baby high-schooler etc, Andrew's is tone one I'm most emotionally attached to! His version made me ball my eyes out and left me completely speechless on many occasion and I rewatched it so many times (an unhealthy amount)! The Amazing Spider-Man just hits different
I've always felt like the "Peter's too cool" thing is weird because when I was in HS the guys who reminded the most of Peter Parker were like Peter was in this movie. Kinda invisible, treated like assholes but weren't exactly pushovers even if they weren't really fighters. It's a modern Peter and I liked that.
Also Peter in general isn't like a "wallflower, doesn't know what being social means" like Tobey's spiderman. When he gets his power he gains like all the confidence in the world and everything, just look up all the relationships Peter has had and you'll see lol. Andrew's Peter is much more accurate and his Spiderman is played amazingly. (No pun intended)
@Yanpretman True, I was gonna write that but was rushing the comment lol, the first Peter was like hard-core exaggerated nerd, even more then Tobey was.
It has been said that this version of Peter Parker is the closest to the comics version. Also, him and Gwen's chemistry is the best out of the other Peter Parker couples.
@@thefishonland5216 Well Tobey dated Kirsten Dunst and Tom is dating Zendaya. Not to say they don’t also have chemistry on screen, but I think this portrayal is by far the best. It feels the most natural. I also think Gwen in these movies is the most integral and useful out of all the Spidey relationships. Like Zendaya’s MJ helps out and we know her character is smart enough to get into great schools, but Gwen we really see her put those skills to use
@@WTDProductions Tobey & kristen didn't date for long, pretty much broke up when they started Tom and Z just started last year & these two started dating as soon as they saw each other
When The Amazing Spider-man first came out, I remember many people were sceptical about it and some even hated it. But I actually really loved it, Andrew Garfield might be my favourite Spider-man tbh. Idk but I feel like he brings out something different than Toby or Tom. And the chemistry between Peter and Gwen is so good, one of the important things I didn't feel in other Spider-man movies imo.
I feel like the reason why a lot of people didn't like this version of Spiderman was because people were still in the process of getting over loosing Tobeys version (Spiderman 4), while the reason why tom wasn't hated as much when he first became Spiderman was because it was a Spiderman that finally took place in the Mcu/Along side of the avengers .
@@vangler6492 nah, they didn’t hate Andrew’s Spider-Man or Peter Parker, they just hated the script, it was a bad script which made people dislike it. The Amazing Spider-Man 1 was good but imo Amazing Spider-Man 2 was pretty bad. The 2 Amazing Spider-Man movies definitely had the best VFX.
That's ironic you saying that considering the Raimi trilogy used the most practical effects overall by far. After this movie it was pretty much all CGI in ASM2. Whereas, Raimi used as much in all 3 of his movies that he could for time he was in.
Garfield actually looks closer to the way John Romita Sr. drew him in the comics in the 60s. That version pretty much set the way Peter looks from then on. So, he was drawn to be better looking. The Raimi films are closer to the earlier books by Steve Ditko. Also "It's like different realities, you know" Indeed.
It was also a bit redundant with the cranes. Spidey could have swung from the buildings, couldn’t he? There were buildings to swing from from what I remember.
Also, there's a theme of Spidey's villains being animal-based: The Lizard, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, etc. I think the thing I loved the most about these is not only is it more comic accurate, the New Yorkers in the films actually have New York accents.
Half point, if you only reffer to the films :P. Spiderman's rogue gallery includes many animal based villains due to his obvious animal based powers (like Scorpion or Jackal). But some other interesting characters come from animals you'd find in a city (The Black Cat), the organized crime (like Kingpin), serial killers (The Sin Eater), hitmen (Tombstone, Hammer Head, Silver Sable)... a wide variety of themes that underline what a modern city can offer (under that view, the films have missed the opportunity to pair the character with some interesting foes for sticking to animals :P).
Rhino looked so bad. He looked like a transformer or Power Ranger Zord. Why cast an actor that has no muscle. That makes no sense considering the villain in the comics has muscle.
Still to this day the car thief scenes is one of my favorite Spider-Man scenes in any movie cause it just so perfectly captured Spider-Man sense of wit humor and snarky sarcasm
The scene where Flash apologizes to Peter after his Uncle dies is in my opinion the best scene in the film. It’s a small thing that had a ton of impact and did more character building for a side character than almost any other film I’ve seen. It’s also just a good reminder that despite being a bully and making bad decisions in Highschool Flash is a really good person and that shows here. Yet another reason why the MCU adaptation of Spidey is just so poor in comparison, because every side character is there just for comic relief and nothing else.
I was hoping that scene wasn't cut in the reaction cause that's one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. It's just nice seeing Flash come to realize just how much of an asshole he was, and Peter just not having it in him to absolutely wreck Flash.
@@AT_BASE let’s be honest that’s not really a high bar.😂 the first Flash didn’t have any more screen time aside from being a bully and showing up for funerals. MCU Flash was nothing but a prep school bully all the way to the end.
Yeah, it's also worth noting that the comic book version of Flash and Peter eventually become very good friends. Hell, Flash was Peter's best man when he got married!
This is my favorite of the spiderman series. Admittedly I haven't watched Tom Holland's spiderman solo movies yet but between Andrew and Toby. Andrew just gave a better performance that was more grounded and real. Having Gwen instead of MJ was also a great choice, Gwen in the comics was brave and resourceful she was also as quick witted as Peter so she kept him on his toes just like in these two movies. The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was also really believable. Toby and Christen were like watching a pair of middle schoolers in a play trying to act like they were in love.
I’m sorry, but the only thing Gwen was in the comics was bland. You literally just described MJ from the comics. Raimi’s MJ is nothing like comic MJ, and Gwen in this film is way more like MJ, except she also knows science. MJ had way more personality and spunk.
@@lateam9786 Why would it be. The worst part about the Raimi movies is easily Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. She is the worst love interest in any Spider-Man movie and has to get rescued at the end of every movie. One more thing about her I find frustrating is that in every Spider-Man movie she cheats on the one she's involved with. She was dating Flash and then she was in a relationship with Harry for months, after which she breaks up to be with Peter, then she gets ENGAGED to John Jameson and breaks up with him to be with Peter, with whom she is in a very serious relationship, and then she kisses Harry. It's TOO much of a back-and-forth and it gets repetitive and annoying.
@@The_Phantasm I was replying to another comment. I completely agree with you about Gwen and Peter. Easily some of the best parts about Andrew’s spiderman movies.
I always liked this movie. It was going for a darker, more grounded(well, as grounded as this can be) approach to the character. Garfield is by far the best actor out of the three Spider-Men, his chemistry with Gwen was great, and Rhys Ifans was an effective villain. Its biggest flaw is that it's another origin story only a decade after Raimi's first film. Homecoming(which I didn't care for at all) wisely eschewed this and just already had Peter Parker established as Spider-Man(with a huge assist from Tony Stark).
Andrew Garfields Spider-Man is the most comic accurate. He’s great. Definitely my favourite of the 3 Also Gwen and Peters chemistry in both of these movies is so good.
I think Andrew Garfield brought the most to the role out of all the actors. I’m not saying the others were bad because they’re not but In the comics, especially his early years in the Stan Lee Lee/Steve Ditko comic run and Brian Michael Bendis in Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter is very moody, SUPER angsty, frustrated, and has a big chip on his shoulder. Andrew nails his characterization. He wasn’t afraid to stand up to the school bully and was kind of an A-hole at times. A jerk. He’s also got a smart mouth on him too. Tobey and Tom are way too timid and wholesome compared to how Peter was originally written in his early year (it still continued after that, just to a lesser degree.)
@@EricTheKartoonKing That’s his character from the comics. That’s where he grows from. Peter Parker is not sweet and wholesome like Clark Kent. He’s not a happy go lucky boy. I’m glad Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield didn’t shy away from showing Peter how he is regardless of how “insufferable” you may find him.
THANK YOU!!! This is exactly what I have been trying to explain to people! I really disliked the portrayal of Peter Parker and Mary Jane in the Raimi. Because I was a big Spider-man fan of the cartoons and the comics, I couldn't stand the inaccurate depiction of these two characters. So I generally avoided re-watching the Raimi Spider-man films. But I LOVED Amazing Spider-man when it came out. To me, THIS was the Peter I knew from the original comics. I was so frustrated by all the hate Andrew Garfield got and was so disappointed at there not being a 3rd film.
@@cassieberringer7427 Are adaptations that are faithful to the source material really all that matters? I don’t believe a bad adaptation automatically makes a movie bad.
All the relationships in this movie and ASM 2 feel so much more realistic to me than they do in the Raimi films. The chemistry and different dynamics Peter has with Uncle Ben, Aunt May, and Gwen are all really well written and really well performed. Also, I really, really love how Peter doesn't catch the guy who killed Uncle Ben. His whole arc of how he actually becomes Spider-Man is really solid. Even when he gets the suit, he still isn't actually Spider-Man. At the end of the day, Gwen's dad is right during the dinner scene. He isn't going out there defending citizens from criminals, he's just out with a personal vendetta, and that's why it gets under Peter's skin when he says it, because it's true. It's only at the bridge scene where he realizes the kind of good he can do and actively makes the choice to give up searching for the shooter and commit to being Spider-Man for the good of others rather than for himself. As opposed to the Raimi film where his character is kind of passively relieved of having to make that choice as the guy just tumbles out of window on his own (until Spider-Man 3 at least but that's a whole other can of worms).
I don’t think you understand Raimi's films. The maturation process takes place from when Peter discovers he has the powers and decides to use them to make money until, through his fault, Uncle Ben is killed. Also, he is struck by the death of the thief, understanding what the consequences of his actions at 360 ° can be (from a great power ...). Same concept, but expressed better and in less time, to then focus on the evolution of history, which TASM does not do. Then the same concept is carried forward also in SpiderMan 2, in a deeper way that not everyone has understood
@@VvaalleeF No, I think I understand it just fine thank you. What you just described is exactly the way I understood his arc too. And I still feel that giving Peter the agency of choosing to stop hunting his Uncle's killer (giving up his own desires for the betterment of others) and integrating that into the larger overall arc of learning responsibility is a more satisfying transformation than Peter simply watching the killer accidentally die on his own and being struck by it. If you disagree, that's fine, you're welcome to your opinion. But maybe learn to live with the fact that at the end of the day that's all it is, an opinion, and that not everyone will agree. That seems like a much better way to live your life than going around accusing people you disagree with as simply not "understanding." You're one step away from the dude-bros who go around saying "You just didn't get it man!"
Fun fact: Every Spider-Man actor ended up dating the female lead in their films: Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dated for a bit, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were an item for a couple of years, and Tom Holland and Zendaya are together now!
I definitely enjoyed the direction this series was starting to take. The character building, world building, and setting a plot for the whole series and not just making it stand alone movies. Really was upset not being able to see Garfield get a third movie and see what their plan was for the series.
Yes!!! Exactly!!! I loved that it wasn't just a superhero origin story movie! It had great thriller-like undertones, I really enjoyed the darker tone. I think that's why it's my favourite version to this day
SO happy you’re watching these! Thank you! While I can agree that these movies aren’t perfect, Andrew is my favorite Peter Parker AND Spider-Man. His beautiful performance in both films really resonates with me, and the entire cast made the TASM duology really special to me. I hope you enjoy them!
13:35 - Connors' motivation might be just to regenerate his arm, but the technology would have far wider applications - like regenerating kidneys, livers, hearts, combatting cancer, etc. Heck, it could lead to practical immortality/eternal youth.
And we find it in the next movie that the Parker blood could potentially do pretty much everything you just suggested, and Peter never seems to realize this.
Peter does tend to wear his web shooters at all times. It's pretty much all over the MCU version too, from the very first scene we see him. He's got them on when he meets Tony and webs him to the doorknob. Just assume unless it's specifically mentioned he doesn't have them that he always does.
The Raimi suit with the metallic web lines is great. The various suits that MCU spidey has had have been really cool and great. But Andrew STILL has my favorite suit. I don't like the eyes as much as Toms, but other than that its a perfect suit.
@山本 孝之 I like that Tom's can change size which makes him seem more expressive while in the suit, and I like the way they incorporated the Stark Tech established by the world building to make that possible. If you were to take them in a still photo, I would agree with you that Andrew's has a better still design. But for watching the character throughout a movie it really helps me engage with Tom more because his eyes give him a range of expression.
Peter isn’t supposed to be geeky. He’s supposed to have some awkward charm and personally Andrews embodiment of that trait is the best. In the scene where he talks to Gwen on the roof we see he’s awkward yet charming. Also I never realised how much I enjoyed Cpt Stacey in this movie, definitely one of the positives to this movie. Alongside the score, Gwen, Visuals, and Spidey ofc.
So for context this film came out at the same time as the first Avengers film. I remember hearing something about Sony and Marvel being in talks briefly about adding an easter egg to some of the wide shots of New York in this film to sneak in Stark Tower in the background but it fell through before the effects were completed and the movie was released. Even back then the idea of Sony and Marvel teaming up was being floated around years before the 2016 appearance of Tom Holland's Peter in Civil War.
I at first agreed that Andrew wasn’t as good a Peter Parker, but I changed my mind after reading some spider man comics. The skateboarding doesn’t actually make him cool, per se. A lot of skateboarders weren’t necessarily seen as that when I was in high school. But comics Peter has a bit of a darker/angstier state of being in the comics. And I think Andrew actually captures that aspect of him quite well. Tobey’s natural energy gives Peter the shyness which makes sense, and is still accurate to Peter, but I think Andrew expands upon that more!
@@Caseytify that’s the thing, I don’t think Andrew played him as cool. I feel people for some reason latched on to that idea once we saw the skateboard
Thank you for realizing that after reading the comics. I think since most people haven't read the comics, they assume that if Peter Parker is supposed to be a nerd, then he must act like Tobey. Because Andrew doesn't come across as that stereotype, they think he's doing it wrong, when he's in fact staying far closer to the original source material. Early Peter had a real anger problem and I loved that was a key aspect of Andrew's character. I was so happy to see Andrew's Peter gave me everything that Tobey's lacked.
TBH I think the reason why Garfield's Peter Parker doesn't come across as "nerdy" as Tobey Maguire's is because that version of a nerd doesn't really exist in the same way anymore? I mean, it was 2014 it was hardly like photography was this extremely weird hobby. He was still extremely socially awkward, didn't seem to have ANY friends whatsoever before Gwen came along, and it's VERY spiderman of him to run into problems with bullies because he can't keep his mouth shut. He's genuinely just got this weird, excitable energy about him; like his brain is just moving too fast for most people to catch up, they really dedicate the time to make it clear how smart he is specifically about science and tech. He technically does still have all the hallmarks of a nerd, but because he just doesn't fit the stereotypes which are rooted far more in like the 60's when the comics started and the 80's with Revenge of the Nerds than anything that's actually true of today. I mean, in the end Andrew Garfield is still hot as hell (and you know, playing a seventeen-year-old at thirty) so not many people are willing to buy the "weird, nerdy loner kid" thing but I really think he did a great job. I really enjoyed his more grounded performance and TBH the personality he showed made FAR more sense for someone who would actually decide to become Spiderman.
That was probably one reason Toby's version was given natural built-in web-shooters; so the movie wouldn't have to explain how he had the smarts to invent web-shooters but otherwise was nothing special inventively.
From my perspective, when a "hero" leaves behind the one they love "for the greater good", it is perhaps easier to "ghost them" for fear that the conversation may be too hard to have that, and the hero might lose their resolve. It's not nice to the loved one, but narratively, it leaves the door open if the words are never really spoken.
Peter can climb walls with sneakers on because his crawling abilities don't really function the way you'd think they would, it's like he magnetizes to surfaces. Like he could use an elbow to hang from the ceiling.
I actually really like Andrew as Peter because of how believable he is. I’m very much in a similar way where I do things that are socially accepted as “cool” and a lot of people tell me I’m a good looking person (even though I don’t think so) but still remain an outsider.
he's definitely a more modern cool outcast. he's how a couple people at my school was like for sure and reminds me of all the smart people at my school too.
I would highly recommend watching the deleted scenes for the next one. There’s an alternate ending That removed some of Andrew’s best acting. Andrew Garfield was criminally underrated as Spider-Man in my opinion.
It's a shame they cut out everything to do with Conners and his family. Also I kinda envy Nat's ability to just forget things she sees. I see something and it gets locked in.
I remember when this movie first came out I was only 8. So many memories it definitely was a big part of my childhood and now people praise this movie for its quirkiness and for Emma Stone’s, Andrew Garfield’s chemistry.
They released a trailer recently saying No Way Home will be out digitally on March 22 and physically in April (I forget the exact date), so it's only like 3 weeks away. Gwen was actually Peter's first love interest in the comics, so that made a lot of people happy. the scene with Lizard in prison at the end of the movie is actually sort of set up for something they wanted to do, which will be made clearer in Amazing Spider-Man 2. IIRC I think Lizard was also supposed to be the villain of Tobey's Spider-Man 4, so it's interesting that they brought that villain in for this movie.
Vulture was for Spidey 4, with a Bruce Campbell Mysterio cameo. I kind of hope an actual Sinister 6 movie happens with Andrew. Multiverse makes things more fun.
@@Wico90YT I knew about the Bruce Campbell thing. I remember reading back in the day that Lizard and Carnage were planned for Spider-Man 4, but I also have heard Vulture as well, though I guess I applied Vulture to Amazing Spider-Man 3 because sequel reasons (trying not to spoil it for her if she reads this) and because of Lizard showing up in this movie. Not to mention it also would be an interesting flow of "we couldn't use this villain we had planned for the previous movie, so let's use it for this new one we're making". I was trying to be vague about it so as not to spoil things for her in case she does end up reading this, and I know you probably didn't mean it intentionally, just be careful with it.
I love this film, I think it's really good. What's holding it back to being a GREAT film and my only complaint is that the parents storyline is unnecessary and a bit "Hollywood movie", especially when it's Peter's driving force and what makes him get bitten. It's complicated when it doesn't need to be. Other than that I love everything else this movie has to offer, and I'm one of the few that sympathizes with Conners (not Lizard) with his motivations. Is it another Jekel and Hyde? Yep, but so was Willem Dafoe; I think GG had a more electrifying presence due to his personality. Both (and most of Spider-Man's villains) are victims of circumstance, which makes them so compelling. His comic, and various animated renditions are far more interesting because there's a family dynamic: Dr. Conners simply wants to hug his son with two arms. Unfortunately there was a deleted scene that has Connors visiting a son, but was cut for some reason.
Honestly, his parents being spies was one of the few things from the comics that they hadn't bought over to the silver screen, so I understand the reasoning for them doing so, but it was not handled very well at all
ASM2 makes the circumstances behind his spider bite even more complicated, but eh. Also that made me realize that just about every one of Spider-Man's villains have that Jekyll and Hyde type split personality in some way, whether its GG, Doc Ock, Lizard, Venom/Carnage (though it makes sense for them since they're literally two people), Chameleon had it for a time, Scorpion, etc. Might be the whole dual life aspect blown out of proportion.
@@The_winds_of_change its for good reason they don't bring it across. It removes the best part of Peter, that he is a normal kid. He's now the son of spies and intentionally has the special dna that helps him become spiderman... What? 😂
@@Caseytify afraid so. They went through a "make everyone's parents agents of shield!" Phase in the late 2000's. Honestly I love the mcu but marvel comics have lacked creativity for years now
I remember watching The Amazing Spider-Man in 2014, just a week before going to the cinema to watch the sequel. I enjoyed the Raimi saga while growing up, and I LOVED this film and the second one too because I am a Spider-Man fan. I remember just liking this a lot and being so excited about Sony making the sequel. Fantastic movies.
I really wish I saw in theaters the week it came out but I putted my money at the time for The Dark Knight Rises since it came out around the same time, but man when I got to see it after it was an EXPERIENCE. Andrew's heart and commitment to the role is so pure and he brought out the best for his Peter and Spidey, and the chemistry he had genuinely with Emma Stone made me believe in love fr. I grew up with Tobey in youth but Andrew in my teen years and I had mad inspiration from what he displayed in his heroism as Spider-Man. The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 deserved more love before than now just cause of NWH and I'm happy Andrew's getting more recognition than he deserved. Sony: #MakeTASM3
I can't say these are the absolute best Spiderman movies, but Andrew Garfield is by FAR the best Spiderman there has been. I grew up with the Raimi movies, and I really like Tom as well, but Andrew's personality just fits so much better, it's not even close.
Every single Spider-Man movie has some things going for it and some things working against it. None of them nail it perfectly. Having said that, TAS 1 and 2 are my favorite Spider-Man films. I feel they're the most real, the most heartfelt, and the most heartbreaking. They're less silly than either of the other two version and they have the best action scenes, without question. Plus, I really love Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter. His love of the character just shines through.
I really love that the dinner with Gwen's family and the conversation with her dad is what makes him turn from being on a hunt for vengeance to actually protecting people. Someone pointed that out on another video and I really appreciate that now. Also the scene in the tunnels where he makes a big web in each direction is a lot like how real spiders detrect movement and catch prey.
The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise Spiderman was nothing without her
I mean good for you using double spaced text and capital letters. And yes, it is really sad that Ziskin died but Spider-Man 3 is a total mess and The Amazing Spider-Man isn't that great either. So yeah.
This duology definitely has my favorite Spider-Man couple. Just the chemistry between Peter and Gwen feels so real compared to the other two spider men
I think the overall world-building is the best in Andrew's version! I think that's why it's my favourite, even though I am incapable of ranking them tbh haha Every character feels real and has its own importance! I saw someone else comment under this video saying that, for example, in Tom's version, side characters act as comic relief and aren't really given much depths etc and I think that's what I like about Andrew's movies! It feels more overall real, in my opinion at least! But Tobey, Andrew and Tom all did an amazing job and got really great movies in their own ways, they all brought something very different, which makes it so hard to compare them, they all have their own strengths and weaknesses!
Andrew has always been my favorite Spiderman and for the reason is for all the sounds he makes when he's doing basically anything and for his type of quips! I love this movie and I'm excited for the second one which is my favorite from the 2.
Always love your Marvel reactions, Natalie. Also, since you are nearing the end of Marvel movies and MCU. I think you're gonna love the DC movies as well. I mean you already know Batman, and I m guessing you know about Wonder woman and Superman. I highly suggest the DCEU movies, which don't necessary follow MCU's formula of humor, but it allows for more diversity of tones for different movies. Here is the list for them in release date order, if you're interested: Man of Steel Batman v Superman: Dawn of justice ( watch the Ultimate edition) Wonder Woman Suicide Squad Zack Snyder's Justice League Aquaman Shazam Wonder Woman 2 The Suicide Squad. Sending love from India! ✌
I would like to say Nat as well, Spiderman has had many interpretations. "The Amazing Spiderman", "Ultimate Spiderman" and just plain "Spiderman" comics all exist. And with each comes a new version and interpretation of what Peter Parker and Spiderman are. All have the same general themes and back story, but each alters things in their own way to fit their artists and writers likes "it's like different realities"..exactly, exactly right
This is hands down my favorite spiderman! My favorite spiderman movie, favorite suit, score, favorite swinging scenes. Everything about this movie is GOLD (wink wink lol)
I enjoyed this one a lot, especially the chemistry between Andrew and Emma. The special effects were great and it did a great job aiming for a totally different tone compared to Sam Raimi's trilogy, my biggest complaint would be Andrew is too cool as Peter and in hindsight the parents story/post-credits scene kinda doomed the sequel to be the bloated mess it became
It’s interesting how this film is a reimagining of the story, the only thing I dislike about this story is that unlike every other version of the character where it could’ve been anyone, in this one it had to have been Peter.
Honestly have been binge watching your vids, there very nice to watch when trying to rewatch a movie but dont have the time, really nice to watch on my free time from school
I was always one of those outliers who actually always liked Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man and his first film is not only one of my favorite Spider-Man movies but one of my favorite marvel films period (next to films like the original 2002 Spider-Man, endgame, NWH and captain america the first avenger). To me he just so perfectly captured Spider-Man from the comics and as die-hard marvel fan and comic fan whose favorite hero is Spider-Man as he's the one who got me into marvel superheroes and comics I have to give the thumbs up to Andrew as much as I love Toby being he was my introduction Andrew Garfield is still to this day my favorite and his first film still is 🔥🔥🔥 just so much right with this film the quips and humor the chemistry with Gwen to the small attention to detail on the little and important things about Peter like giving him the mechanical web-shooters it helps that Andrew Garfield went in being a die-hard Spider-Man fan since he was a kid but yeah to me he is Peter ripped straight from the comics and I believe his suit from the 2nd film is just perfect. I do believe why so many people were hard on him which he didn't deserve was cause of toby everyone was just hit by nostalgia so soon that they had a problem accepting something different.
He may not be ‘nerdy’ like Peter is supposed to be, but he’s definitely still awkward. I really don’t think that ‘awkward’ and ‘popular’ are as mutually exclusive as people believe.
Gwen was also one of the alternate heroes from “Into the Spiderverse”, they wanted the sequel to lead to their own MCU set of movies but it made so little money they agreed to let the MCU put Peter in Civil War and Avengers
Andrew Garfield is to Spiderman what Timothy Dalton was to James Bond, underrated, underappreciated but had a film in the franchise that was a hidden gem!
21:05 I realized there’s something tragically noble about the fact that Connors would rather suffer through the test alone than leave other people at the mercy of Oscorp
I loved how witty Peter is in these movies! You can see Andrew really had fun! It's one of my favourite things about TASM! I'll never not laugh at "small knives!! My one weakness!!" (Or sth like that), it's so good 😂😭
Spider-Man is such a important character because he has all this loss. He never really gets to enjoy a win. And he knows it, but also knows he needs to put everything on the line, even though it will cost him everything.
These movies get several things right that the Raimi movies messed up. - Gwen Stacy as his first/most important girlfriend. Who IS both a model and scientist/science student. - They nail his relationship with Gwen. - He builds his own webshooters. - THIS Peter Parker actually shows and explores his EXTREME intelligence and scientific/engineering aptitude. The Sam Raimi movies only ever really paid lip service to Peter's scientific nature - just enough to use as an excuse to let him meet and interact with his superscientist supervillains. - He looks EXACTLY like comicbook Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Peter Parker IS HOT. He's just a bumbling awkward doofus.....until he becomes Spider-Man. Once he becomes Spider-Man he becomes far more coordinated and confident. But yea, Spider-Man has more girlfriends than pretty much any other normal lifespan hero. More than Iron Man. And a TRULY absurd number of them are supermodels, models, and superheroes who could be supermodels.... People who say Andrew Garfield is too hot to be Peter Parker truly aren't familiar with the character. - Garfield acts EXACTLY like comicbook Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Charming, dorky, awkwardly flirty, sarcastic, comical, tormented, upbeat. Spider-Man is constantly tormented by tragedy in his life, but he also constantly stay upbeat and fun to hide it and not be a burden to his loved ones. He's not an endlessly mopey wet blanket, or an asshole, like Tobey Maguire. He's not a "golly gee wizz, shucks Mr. Stark" hokey kid, like Tom Holland. - THIS is Flash Thompson. He's an asshole jock bully. The star quarterback. But he has a soft spot and a good heart...idolizes Spider-Man...and wishes he could be a hero too. Eventually he realizes he's an asshole and he BECOMES heroic. First as a solider, and eventually as a black ops/military/secret agent version of Venom. He's not just an asshole like the Raimi movies. He's not a dorky asshole like the MCU. THESE movies have the Flash Thompson who is written to match the comicbook Flash. But these movies never got the opportunity to go down the route of exploring Flash's potential. And of course...Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are ASTRONOMICALLY better actors... But these movies also get PLENTY of stuff wrong, and make a bunch of hamfisted choices that were forced into the movie by studio meddling....🤷♂️
You should get a medal for writing this comment. I applaud you, and tip my hat to you (If I were wearing one). Thank you for doing the internet a great service and I truly hope many more people see and actually read your comment. The only thing I would add is that I had always noticed Peter's anger in the comics and was happy to see it incorporated well into Andrew's character. Since you didn't have any sort of anger-type word in your list of comic book characterization of Peter, I wanted to add it here.
@@cassieberringer7427 Yea, stuff can make him angry, but he's never a douche, like the Raimi version. When he fucks up, and is late, or misses a date, or whatever, he knows it, and he's super apologetic and feels bad about it. He's not up his own ass and full of himself. Ever. The only time he becomes an asshole, hostile, aggressive, full of himself, etc, is when he's possessed by the Alien Costume or Doc Ock. Spider-Man TAS created that aspect of the Alien Costume, and it was brilliant, and helped explain why Eddie Brock became such a dangerous sociopath when he became Venom. In the original comics the Alien Costume did nothing but enhance his powers, so it was weird that this journalist suddenly goes full-blown monster. Seriously, it was a GENIUS solution. Just one of the MANY brilliant things Spider-Man TAS pioneered. And the Sam Raimi movies are HEAVILY based on Spider-Man TAS, including integrating the Alien Costume making Spider-Man more aggressive and violent. ....but the thing is that Maguire's Peter/Spider-Man is ALREADY an asshole long before the symbiote comes along. I just don't understand why. I hate it SO MUCH.. ...it's a nice change of pace from his endless flaccid moping though, I guess. 🤷🏻♂️ Andrew Garfield's Spidey is only ever angry for an EXTREMELY good reason, and is only a dick to criminals and supervillains, who he taunts in battle to mess with them - something which is an EXTREMELY key aspect of Spider-Man, and another aspect where Maguire falls waaaaay short.
@@ieyke Fair. I guess I don't remember Tobey's angry moments since I purposefully don't re-watch those films. But I just remember my strong first impression that the emotion from Andrew was far more accurate. And that's an interesting tid-bit about Spider-man TAS being the one that created the concept that the symbiote affected the wearer's attitude. I admittedly never got that far in the comics. I think I only read the first 10 years or so, and then most of them after like 2005 up until the time reset back. So it is totally possible for me to have some of my information based on TAS instead of the comics. Something I am aware of.
Basing on this comment, this movie is the perfect example of how you can be the most comic book accurate and still make a mediocre movie. Not bad. While Raimi with a version of his own, changing various aspects, managed to create a Masterpiece. Wow, just Cinema-Genius…
The things with Peter sticking to walls, like you mentioned earlier, is that this version is more accurate to the comics, in which he sticks to things because of electrostatic forces. In fact Peter's daughter in the comics has this ability to such a greater extent, as she can make others stick to walls.
Exactly! And I’ve never understood the criticism that Andrew is “too hot”. Like… canonically, Peter Parker has dated some of the most attractive characters in all of comic books. It’s not just because of his sense of humor.
Uncle Ben was teaching Peter about the Flash incident that you don't change your character because of someone else. It Leaded up to the "With Great Power come Great Responsibility"

Nothing against Tobey or Tom, but to me, Andrew is the best Spider-Man. The quips, the tech, the way he fights like a spider, idk I just like this one better. May not be the best Peter Parker but definitely the best Spider-Man
Definitely the origin of Andrew-Spidey's signature move of slinging back with something to propel himself into the air, such a badass move! And of course it is brought back again in NWH.
I found Spider-man himself was pretty good but the characters and story around him weren’t super compelling to me, even tho Garfield plays peter and spider-man excellently. Also i’m sat eagerly awaiting the next Avatar episode
I love the amazing spiderman series more than any other spiderman, this series contain all. Action romance chemistry villian cinematography. This is the best in my perspective.❤❤🔥
I really love Andrew's spiderman, but then I love all three, all have their individual strengths and weaknesses. Plus, Tom did design his own suit in Far from home, I know it was his second film, but he did design his own suit.
The basketball scene is a direct reference to some of the comics where Flash Thompson later figures out that Peter is Spiderman after seeing him suddenly become good at basketball.
True but Gwen has way less character but I guess people care more about how pretty she is than the actual character the love interest has. Luckily tho the Raimi movies focused more on writing and character writing which is what Made the movies to good and memorable.
@@Karma-pq9fi I don't know who has less or more character, but I definitely prefer Gwen, and not because of her looks. It's just that MJ was an awful person. So if Raimi's goal was to make me dislike her, he succeeded marvelously.
@@brucesimmons5517 no Raimi’s goal was to make a real character if you hate her I guess that’s your opinion but the characters weren’t made to be perfect. thats kinda the whole point of making a good character one with flaws. This one’s really under appreciated. Peter’s growth and journey throughout this movie is REALLY compelling, and that bit after the bridge scene where he just looks at the mask is iconic.

The bridge scene is where he really becomes Spider-Man.
I totally agree with you dude
Came here to say this exactly. I think people have replaced the actual source material with the aesthetics and vibes of the Raimi trilogy. Which I get, but also it kinda screwed over Andrew a bit I think.
@@tennawan Yeah i agree
I get what you mean but I'm personally not a big fan of the super Chad casanova ladies man who has it all from the 80s-90s of the comics either. There's gotta be a good balance between total dorky outcast and the weird suave gigachad James Dean type we got in those comics.
Imo andrew was the best spiderman/Peter and veat love interest, Tobey had the best villains and I don't have much to say about Tom but he was cool
The swinging scenes, the suit, the score, Spider-Man's humor and the Peter-Gwen dynamic is just too good🥰🥰. I love this movie❤

How is he underrated as Spidey? People shit on the movies, but Garfield is generally praised.
This Peter is based on the ultimate comics Peter if I remember correctly.
Exactly. Peter isn’t supposed to be some nerdy kid. He was always somewhat cool.
I always find the 'Peter isn't cool' argument untrue lol Andrew's portrayal also reminds me a lot of the PS4 game Pete
It has been said that this version of Peter Parker is the closest to the comics version. Also, him and Gwen's chemistry is the best out of the other Peter Parker couples.
I love Peter and Gwen’s chemistry in these movies. They’re definitely my favorite couple in all the Spider-Man franchises!

And the chemistry between Peter and Gwen is so good, one of the important things I didn't feel in other Spider-man movies imo.
Not some hated it almost every one did till NWH people hated it cause it came out way too early after the original.

That's ironic you saying that considering the Raimi trilogy used the most practical effects overall by far. After this movie it was pretty much all CGI in ASM2. Whereas, Raimi used as much in all 3 of his movies that he could for time he was in.
@Diego Santos on the bridge Andrew didn’t do those stunts that was a stunt double swinging.
I would say that Andrew’s Peter is more in line with the comics than Tobey’s and Tom’s. He’s my favorite out of the three.

Garfield actually looks closer to the way John Romita Sr. drew him in the comics in the 60s. That version pretty much set the way Peter looks from then on. So, he was drawn to be better looking. The Raimi films are closer to the earlier books by Steve Ditko.
Also "It's like different realities, you know"
Indeed.
Nah looks more like Tobey
"indeed" Teal'c... that you?
As cheesy as it is, the whole "New York coming together to help Spidey" bit is my favorite part of Spider-Man movies
It was also a bit redundant with the cranes. Spidey could have swung from the buildings, couldn’t he? There were buildings to swing from from what I remember.
@austinjohnsen4430 He was too injured to get there on time with his leg, the cranes gave him a direct path there
Peter and Gwen are 100% unmatched. Their chemistry is just so so good ❤
Also, there's a theme of Spidey's villains being animal-based: The Lizard, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, etc.
Lizard, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, Scorpion, Chameleon, Black Cat...
And then there's Kraven, *the Hunter.*
not just the villains...
Rhino looked so bad. He looked like a transformer or Power Ranger Zord. Why cast an actor that has no muscle. That makes no sense considering the villain in the comics has muscle.
@@biguy617 don't you think he's just like the Vulture? Vulture also got robotic wings in MCU while in the comics, he had like real wings.
Still to this day the car thief scenes is one of my favorite Spider-Man scenes in any movie cause it just so perfectly captured Spider-Man sense of wit humor and snarky sarcasm
This was such a great movie and it’s so underrated. It didn’t deserve the hate it got in 2012 and it’s sequel in 2014. Also, RIP Irrfan Khan.
My main gripe with mcu spider-man is that the high-school setting doesn't have the impact on peter that it should.
I was hoping that scene wasn't cut in the reaction cause that's one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. It's just nice seeing Flash come to realize just how much of an asshole he was, and Peter just not having it in him to absolutely wreck Flash.
Best of the three flashes IMO
The Peter and Gwen relationship is unmatched!
@Diego Santos I meant in Spider-Man movies.
@Diego Santos I hope that’s 🧢
He’s great. Definitely my favourite of the 3
Also Gwen and Peters chemistry in both of these movies is so good.
Agreed, he’s a phenomenal actor, the visuals in the sequel were perfect too. If only the script was just as good.

So glad you did this
I think Andrew Garfield brought the most to the role out of all the actors.
I also think having a teen act like a jerk after getting powers, especially before the “great power” moment, is really realistic.
It may be more accurate, but that doesn’t make it better imo. I find this version of Peter insufferable.

"Your backboard was weak, son." Lmao damn Nat, straight savage 🤣🤣💀
Peter does tend to wear his web shooters at all times. It's pretty much all over the MCU version too, from the very first scene we see him. He's got them on when he meets Tony and webs him to the doorknob. Just assume unless it's specifically mentioned he doesn't have them that he always does.
The music score for this movie is superb. James Horner was a true master, may he rest in peace.
My favourite suit is the TASM 2 suit. It's basically this suit but with big white eyes.
Alongside the score, Gwen, Visuals, and Spidey ofc.
my favorite part of this whole thing is that nat calls the web shooters blasters 🤣
Peter was never as cool as Andrew played him. ;)

Definitely my favorite Spider-Man version, the writing in the movies was kinda mediocre but Andrew Garfield is just so good
TBH I think the reason why Garfield's Peter Parker doesn't come across as "nerdy" as Tobey Maguire's is because that version of a nerd doesn't really exist in the same way anymore?
What I like about this version is Peter is more scientifically minded like he is in the comics. The Toby version was missing this
That was probably one reason Toby's version was given natural built-in web-shooters; so the movie wouldn't have to explain how he had the smarts to invent web-shooters but otherwise was nothing special inventively.
Lol
prob the cringiest comment ive read in a very long time.
@@steverogers6572 Yeah, it actually hurt reading it
he's definitely a more modern cool outcast. he's how a couple people at my school was like for sure and reminds me of all the smart people at my school too.
I would highly recommend watching the deleted scenes for the next one. There’s an alternate ending That removed some of Andrew’s best acting. Andrew Garfield was criminally underrated as Spider-Man in my opinion.
That scene is the worst. The acting from the other person is some of the worst acting I've ever seen. I'm so glad it was deleted
@@pesty4 hatin
@@_Xds_ nah mate, Andrew Garfield acted his heart out in that scene, he's amazing but in contrast, Richard Parker is so wooden, it's such a shame.
It's a shame they cut out everything to do with Conners and his family.
Also I kinda envy Nat's ability to just forget things she sees. I see something and it gets locked in.
Same here. I even pretty much stopped rewatching movies. I mostly watch analyses for anything I might have missed after I've seen them and that's it.
I remember when this movie first came out I was only 8. So many memories it definitely was a big part of my childhood and now people praise this movie for its quirkiness and for Emma Stone’s, Andrew Garfield’s chemistry.
Andrew is GREAT at emotional acting! He makes it look so real and believable!
This movie was really underrated in its time. Glad to see it’s getting more love.
What? 😂
@@The_winds_of_change They actually put that in the comics? I knew there was a reason I stopped collecting!
Ret-cons are the hallmark of bad writers.
The _Venom_ films before _No Way Home_ are definitely worth it, so hoping that you get to check them out first!
I can't say these are the absolute best Spiderman movies, but Andrew Garfield is by FAR the best Spiderman there has been. I grew up with the Raimi movies, and I really like Tom as well, but Andrew's personality just fits so much better, it's not even close.
This ones probably the best one right after SM1 (2002)
Every single Spider-Man movie has some things going for it and some things working against it. None of them nail it perfectly. Having said that, TAS 1 and 2 are my favorite Spider-Man films. I feel they're the most real, the most heartfelt, and the most heartbreaking. They're less silly than either of the other two version and they have the best action scenes, without question. Plus, I really love Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter. His love of the character just shines through.
Cant wait for you’re reaction of no way home. Loving the spidey reactions
The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN
It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth
She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off
Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1
Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise
Spiderman was nothing without her
Rest In Power, Laura.
Why does Arad want to distory it? or he doesn’t think he is?
@@yoite70 Avi Arad reeks of ego to me. It's likely he just believes he knows whats best for the franchise but he alienates fans wherever he goes.
@@riolkin Okay i see. Thank you!
I mean good for you using double spaced text and capital letters. And yes, it is really sad that Ziskin died but Spider-Man 3 is a total mess and The Amazing Spider-Man isn't that great either. So yeah.
This duology definitely has my favorite Spider-Man couple. Just the chemistry between Peter and Gwen feels so real compared to the other two spider men
These movies are all amazing. Every spider man is great in there own way. But idk why, Andrew is just awesome. Him and Emma r soooo good
I think the overall world-building is the best in Andrew's version! I think that's why it's my favourite, even though I am incapable of ranking them tbh haha
Every character feels real and has its own importance!
Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spider-man. He is such a good actor, so natural and effortless and constantly making me emotional ;_;
I like how you compared Peter making those webs to Jurassic Park instead of comparing it to...you know...a spider?
Always love your Marvel reactions, Natalie. Also, since you are nearing the end of Marvel movies and MCU. I think you're gonna love the DC movies as well. I mean you already know Batman, and I m guessing you know about Wonder woman and Superman. I highly suggest the DCEU movies, which don't necessary follow MCU's formula of humor, but it allows for more diversity of tones for different movies. Here is the list for them in release date order, if you're interested:
Man of Steel
Batman v Superman: Dawn of justice ( watch the Ultimate edition)
Wonder Woman
Suicide Squad
Zack Snyder's Justice League
Aquaman

I would like to say Nat as well, Spiderman has had many interpretations. "The Amazing Spiderman", "Ultimate Spiderman" and just plain "Spiderman" comics all exist. And with each comes a new version and interpretation of what Peter Parker and Spiderman are. All have the same general themes and back story, but each alters things in their own way to fit their artists and writers likes
"it's like different realities"..exactly, exactly right
This is hands down my favorite spiderman!
It’s interesting how this film is a reimagining of the story, the only thing I dislike about this story is that unlike every other version of the character where it could’ve been anyone, in this one it had to have been Peter.
because his dad couldnt have paid a random woman to be a surrgoate mother to a genetically altered baby. it had to be peter.....
The most underrated spider-man movie now getting some appreciation. i love it
also the swings in this franchise was *chef's kiss*
I think Andrew Garfield really nails the nervous energy and awkwardness of a teenager

He may not be ‘nerdy’ like Peter is supposed to be, but he’s definitely still awkward. I really don’t think that ‘awkward’ and ‘popular’ are as mutually exclusive as people believe.
@Diego Santos I don't speak your language....
Gwen was also one of the alternate heroes from “Into the Spiderverse”, they wanted the sequel to lead to their own MCU set of movies but it made so little money they agreed to let the MCU put Peter in Civil War and Avengers
I do love this movie! Andrew Garfield's interpretation reminds me more of the snarky attitude of the OG Spiderman Cartoon which is fun lol
Andrew Garfield is to Spiderman what Timothy Dalton was to James Bond, underrated, underappreciated but had a film in the franchise that was a hidden gem!
My biggest regret in life is not appropriating Andrew’s Spider-Man when he first appeared💔
"You should've thought of that earlier"
Its hard to believe, but ok
21:05 I realized there’s something tragically noble about the fact that Connors would rather suffer through the test alone than leave other people at the mercy of Oscorp
The best part of this series is Sally Field as Aunt May. I've loved her since I saw her in Smokey & The Bandit back in the day.
The scene of peter saving the kid in the car was the best scene in the whole movie imo. Thats Peter showing himself just being human
This is the closest to Peter Parker in the current comics he'd ever been portrayed. Also pretty witty here, unlike the Raimi version.
Andrew Garfield's Spidey is only ever angry for an EXTREMELY good reason, and is only a dick to criminals and supervillains, who he taunts in battle to mess with them - something which is an EXTREMELY key aspect of Spider-Man, and another aspect where Maguire falls waaaaay short.
@@cassieberringer7427 Not worth remembering.
