The way Aunt May died is actually realistic. Often times someone who is injured doesn't realize right away the extent of their injuries due to adrenaline in the moment.
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
The thing is we are not used to see deaths "like that" on movies, that's why it feels weird.
Same as old movies when someone dies they close their eyes, and now it is more realistic (eyes open)

Yes and no. She likely had multiple bleeds. With a massive heart attack if a blood clot or fat hit the heart. Or stroke of it hit the brain. Or drown from. Internal bleeding. I hear Terminator 2 had one of the most realistic scene.
I feel like Andrew's spiderman catching MJ was the most heartfelt and meaningful part of the whole movie. It was exactly what his character needed. Perfection.
As long as you have seen and care in the slightest about the original movie. As an event in it's own right, within a movie in it's own right, it's pretty terrible with no emotional connection to anything.
You never find out how she died in the original movie, it just looks like a silly awkward couple of seconds after they land for no reason without that context - of course he caught her, she's a main character and who cares which one of them does the catching.

Requiring seeing up to 20 year old films, 5* of them in fact of which little to nothing will in grand scheme have any bearing on the MCU, just for a cheap nostalgia trip for those that do like it, also does not make it good.
On it's own it is very weak, by far the worst. As a nostalgia trip that requires watching 5* unrelated films being shoe-horned into things it is technically a good film. But even as someone who like the original films, I can still see the relatively speaking weak stand-alone film it represents.
@@wyterabitt2149 nah it's an extremely ambitious crossover event and they pulled it off very well. If that's not what you wanted then no you won't enjoy it, but a lot of people wanted exactly this and it delivered. And the Raimi trilogy is still really popular so a lot of people still watch them
I love that Ned was able to freely use the ring because unlike Strange, he was open the possibility of magic whereas Strange needed to overcome a lot of emotional baggage

Ned was also younger and lots of young nerdy kids want magic to be real. Whereas strange was a grown adult scientist/doctor that only knew/believed in "practical" reality.

Ned‘s mind, being younger, is open more to possibility and imagination, and here, belief. With your thought process, I can now see after the fact that Ned could indeed use the sling ring.
The ending spell didn't change history, it just erased everyone's memories (and presumably all records) of Peter. Everything we've watched in the MCU has still happened, but now there's giant holes in everyone's memories and databases where Peter Parker used to be.

I like to think that Strange still altered the spell a bit at the end so he at least knows who Peter is. I could be entirely wrong on that front but it's what I like to think as we, the audience, don't know the complete spell from the altered version and probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
They didn't really specify that, but I would also assume that anything about Peter Parker on the internet was destroyed along with every physical trace of evidence of his existence.

Exactly, except I don't think there are hole's in people's memories. It makes more sense that there are plausible alternate memories patched over. So for example MJ and Ned were friends with Spider-Man but never knew who he was, got in trouble with MIT because of that, and Peter had the same conversation with the admissions woman except he never took his suit off.
Heck, needing to automatically create those plausible fake memories is probably why a memory spell of all things has to access the multiverse in the first place.
If it did erase Peter Parker from all databases it would explain why he had to make his own suit. His Stark Suits no longer recognize Peter as an authorized user.
Andrew saving MJ and crying after still gets me. And Toby stopping Tom from killing Goblin, no words, just facial expressions, my god it’s amazing. Loved all 3 Spider-Man actors together and glad they didn’t skimp on the screen time!
Those moments alone were worth the price of admission for me, but the movie had _SO_ much more on top of that that it still blows my mind thinking about it.

They said they are gonna continue with a second trilogy with Tom Holland and Marvel. Tom hasn't signed a contract yet though and says he doesnt wanna be Spider-Man at 30

Fun fact: when Willem Dafoe was grinning as he was being punched, it actually scared the WHOLE cast and crew, especially Tom since he was right in front of him. But it just shows how devoted Willem was to the character. He's just amazing!

I personally think May had one of the most realistic deaths in a super hero movie. Adrenaline can suppress pain partially or entirely. You can see May is driven by adrenaline and then, she starts shaking, indicating that her adrenaline level decreases and her nervous system slowly shuts down. This combination gives her the feeling she has to catch a break.
I remember when I was very young I got hit in the head and never realized how bad it was until my sister freaked out over blood coming out of my head.
Now I have stitches in my head and prone to terrible migraines
I really appreciated the way they did May's death with the adrenaline, though I think they could have made it a little more clear by showing a wound.

Also to clarify a few things, the spell doesn’t change past events, it’s simply a memory spell that erases everyone’s memories of Peter (and presumably physical evidence of his existence but that’s something they’ll need to address in Spiderman 4 just to clarify). So essentially certain events that he was involved still happened, they just don’t remember his involvement cuz they don’t know him now. And in regards to sending the villains back, it doesn’t change the continuity completely or retcon those movies. As shown to us by the Loki series, Marvel’s multiverse/time travel doesn’t work in a linear fashion like back to the future. If you go to a different point and time and change an event, it simply creates a branch. So because all the characters were pulled from different moments in time, each of their branches will have different histories now with different variants of characters potentially. So where Norman returns in Spiderman 1, there’s a branch there. Where Doc Oc returns in 2, Norman is still dead. In Spiderman 3 where Sandman returns, both Goblin and Oc are still dead and so on. Meanwhile for Tobey and Andrew, since they’re from the future, everything that happened in their movies still happened. All of this to say, like the ending of Loki showed, it’s a multiversal cluster now lol

When Andrew’s spider man saved MJ… that got me. He couldn’t save his MJ in his world, but he saved MJ in another. Made him feel like he isn’t a failure, he got a part of himself back.

Keep in mind this (that comes, partially, from the comics): it's not an accident that Andrew's Spider Man used a different technique to save MJ.
Andrew's Spider Man's guilt over Gwen's death is still so present he's been going around in his mind, after all this time, different scenarios in which he can break someone's fall under similar circumstances, without the deadly side effects.
As I mentioned, this is not exactly mentioned in the films, but it has been stated in the comics in different moments (and I think it was cool to, kind of, see it portrayed in the film).
Honestly in this absolute fan-service of a movie, that was my favorite part and I've only watched Amazing Spiderman 2 once. The acting and the scene is just really well done and impactful.
(Gwen Stacy is a separate love interest from Mary-Jane/MJ, but yeah as the love interest who was in the same role as MJ for Tobey-Peter and Michelle for Tom-Peter, the effect is the same)
There was talk of having in Amazing Spiderman 3 Andrew meet the real 'MJ' of his universe and it being the same actress because their chemistry was so good together on screen. That was before they canned ASP3 to begin with. Now, there is talk of their maybe shooting ASP 3 again. Maybe we will see him meet his universe's MJ. We can hope...
My take on the "weird" Aunt May death, is that she was still feeling the effects of the adrenaline spike that happens during fight or flight. At least, that's how her acting portrayed it when she was speaking like she was ok. Her voice was intentionally shaky and not normal. I could tell right then and there she was a goner. That's why they tell you not to move or move someone after a very bad accident, you can make the internal bleeding or damage way worse.

Yeah she was in shock. Displayed many of the textbook signs. I can only imagine that glider did a hell of a lot of damage to her internal organs.
That does happen sometimes but the way she was hit I seriously doubt you're getting up from that. The weight and speed of the glider would paralyze her or probably crush her heart and lungs. It's a spiderman movie so I'm not bothered by it though lol.
Oh yeah it happens all the time if someone is not killed like instantly from something, they may feel like they can go on..but then the internal bleeding catches up, or they go into shock and die at that point. Like yes, it's probably more common for most to die instantly from somethings like what happened to May, but it can also happen the other way like it does in the movie. :(
@@MrPhooey442 maybe 300-450 pounds at maybe 40 miles an hour. People have gotten up from much worse hits than that. Like an accident with a motorcycle at the same speed. From the side (a direction our bodies are made to bend) in the meat of her torso and her getting up is even more likely.
Doctor Strange saying "we... we won't remember you," killed me bro. He's such a serious character but this was one of his most emotional scenes in the whole MCU.
Benedict has been the MCU’s unsung hero since his introduction. Strange has done much more for the MCU than people realize. He saved the world from Dormammu, realistically helped Thor save the people of Asgard so that New Asgard could be established after Ragnorak, and made sure the correct path was taken was taken to beat Thanos. and who knows what he’ll off in Multiverse of Madness!

I think the phrase “with great power comes great responsibility” is an absolute point in time, all variants of Peter Parker needs to hear that to realize the importance and the price of being Spiderman, and it needs to come from someone they love.
It's a good moral, but it's also a terribly heavy weight to hang around Peter's neck, one that has consistently ruined his life in the comics and earlier movies.
You could say...it's a canon event.

About the whole “I love you guys” thing, that lil bit of the interaction was improvised by Andrew, that’s why the other 2 stood there kinda speechless for a second and then said “Thank You” and continued the scene without none of them breaking character…

Something that wasn’t on the script and the actor came up with it on the spot and the director thought it fit nicely and chose to leave on the final product; that’s why it isn’t a bloopers and added to the script in the end
@Ovyto 626 I was about to say that!! "Improvised" doesn't mean they didn't film it a few times after they got the idea in that 1st take! Most of the time they, like you said, say it and then think "hey, that's actually a good idea" and so they do a few more take with that adlib added in
Too many people seem to think improvised means they did it on the spot and took the first time perfectly. It could be something they randomly said during rehearsal, the director overheard and says, "Yes! Keep that!" In fact, the vast majority of "improved" lines are done this way, with everyone on the same page when the line is finally dropped. Sometimes, one of the actors won't be aware so they get a realistic reaction from them. Other times, the script will just say "he says something funny" and then the guy will come up with ten or twenty takes and they just pick the funniest ones during editing. That's done for a lot of improve comedians... like Robin Williams in the genie, from what I understand, 90% of his lines was just "Robin make a funny."
Just watched this on Patreon. The part that got me, the part that just suddenly made me burst into tears at the theater, was when Garfield’s Peter caught MJ and his reaction to that. Like he could finally forgive himself. I had just lost my fiancée a couple of months prior and I would do anything to bring her back. I miss her so much.

Another thing that really hit me in the feels was the look on Happy's face when he drives up and looks at Peter and realizes that.... Aunt May's death was super realistic. Hollywood has convinced people that dying is dramatic and epic. But really it's awkward and comes out of nowhere sometimes. Adrenaline can make your body do crazy things

The spell doesn’t affect everyone throughout Peter’s entire life. Just from the point the spell was cast onward. It’s not that they never knew, it’s that they forgot.

May's death actually hit me harder than most MCU deaths because it wasn't your typical movie death. The awkwardness of how it happened made it more realistic for me. People with fatal injuries CAN sometimes still stand up for a bit.
The reason why Ned was able to open the portal because he actually BELIEVES he has magic. While when Strange first did it, he doubts himself.

Strange is shown that magic exists TWICE (both in the big acid trip scene and in a smaller, subtler demonstration a bit later) and it is AFTER these demonstrations that he has the line, "Even if my hands could do that, I'd just be waving them around. How do I get from here to there?" And it's only just after the Ancient One shows him Master Hamir performing magic one-handed and just before she forcibly drops him off at Everest that she tells him about letting go of his preconceptions and surrendering control (while Strange is struggling with the SLING RING, no less!)
Now, Ned isn't as doubtful as Strange was in his debut movie. He's fully in awe of all this superhero stuff, including Doctor Strange's magic, and thinks he may magic as well - "My _lola_ always said we were magic..." - but doesn't dwell on it from there. And besides, opening a portal with the sling ring is a comparatively basic spell, and not necessarily one that he's mastered (he doesn't know how to close it, after all).
So yeah. I thought this made sense, and if you think it doesn't then you really need to rewatch Doctor Strange to refresh your memory (as I did just 4 days ago at the time of writing this) instead of just jumping to conclusions.
Willem is one of the best actors, he’s 67 and did pretty much all of the stunts on his own, he and Andrew were the best actors in this film.
I think majority of them did really well but definitely Willem stands out the most as well as Andrew. Molina was really good as well but to me willem stands out the most out of everyone.
And that's super impressive considering the performance Tom gave with the death of May and when they were consoling him afterwards

Fun fact, it took me a while to realise, but the reason the spell didn't work the first time was because peter wanted 5 people to remember, but Strange said 6. Strange included himself in the list because he cares about peter that much, that's why his line at the end was a bit emotional when he said "All the people that know you, and love you, we ..." and then peter cuts him off.
seeing andrew save mj and getting emotional about it absolutely broke me in the theatre. and still does every time i see it. best part of the movie and such a satisfying conclusion to part of his character arc.
Can’t believe she didn’t include the scene after the “I love you guys” scene… that was my favorite scene of them running together and jumping off swinging together and the landing…

She typically only chooses parts she had a strong reaction to. In this case, she was much more affected, by the Peter’s talking to each other than the Spider-Men swinging

There’s another cameo in this movie that I’m guessing you didn’t recognize. But Matt Murdock aka Daredevil is also in it. He’s the blind lawyer who catches the rock thrown through Peter’s window. Daredevil is an amazing show! One of the best Marvel shows for sure, along with Agents of Shield. I would love to see you react to those shows.

I can't think of better Marvel series' than Daredevil and Jessica Jones. They're just starting to get back into the same ballpark again with Hawkeye, IMHO.
In the comics when Spider-Man is fighting other heros, he has a tendency to win even when outnumbered or outclassed purely because of his wits and quick thinking, so it’s always enjoyable seeing him win against Strange in this movie
mmhmm. Spiderman I think by many is known as one of the strongest MCU (meaning comics as well and other media) heroes. Not only is he just as strong as someone like Captain America, or maybe even stronger by a good amount, he's incredibly smart for his age, great with gadgets and inventions to possibly stop opponents in their tracks and has his Spider Sense that can give him an edge against harder people that would otherwise outmatch him. Probably like literal god like heroes like Thor, Hulk or Captain Marvel (as far as the Movies go) are overall stronger than him in all reality. If Doctor Strange was actually trying to like kill Peter he probably could have as well, but obviously that's not something he wanted to do.
@@CrazeeAdam Spiderman in the comics is REALLY strong. It's been shown in a comic once that Peter always pulls his punches, because if he didn't it would kill a normal human adult. I took the scene in Far From Home where he accidentally knocks that kid out as a kind of reference to this, but that might just be me.
@@CrazeeAdam - Well, Thor and Hulk, maybe would be a tough battle for him, but Captain America, maybe not - remember, he has the exact same strength and power as Bucky, and Spiderman kind of dealt with him pretty easy, and he was even teamed up with Falcon, they still both lost. I think Captain America has a slight edge on Peter due to his maturity, experience, and sheer will, basically his whole " I can do this all day" attitude, that is why he was harder for Peter than the others.
Just my own personal viewpoint, perspective & opinion, others could see it another way.
@@feris3410 - Was it an accident though? I kinda thought that he knocked him out on purpose (if you mean Flash on the bus with the glasses scene), kinda seemed like he meant to do it - he was in a rush, didn't have time to be delicate, killer drones were coming.
@@Arthaius I just rewatched the scene, it's definitely an accident. He was fumbling around try to get the glasses back and wasn't even looking at Flash when it happened. Even if he did mean to hit Flash, the reaction to him being knocked out was pure shock so he clearly didn't mean to hit him as hard as he did
My god dude I love the brother relationship they had and that moment when tobey caught the goblins glider giving tom that look like "don't make the same mistake we did don't end up like us, be better" or something like that got me in the feels again
On the note of him almost killing the Goblin, I loved that he was going to use the glider to stab him. Maintaining the aspect of destiny that the Goblin was going to die by his own tech.

In my opinion, I think some of the movie’s best moments are when all three Spideys are just talking shop and shooting the breeze. Just talking about totally superfluous and innocuous crap, joking about their backs and web-shooters; in honesty, it’s the kind of stuff that normally winds up on the cutting room floor, but it works because it really establishes their brotherhood.
This part & the stuff between Andrew's Peter and Zendaya when he first shows up is my favorite stuff in the film
Honestly not just those moments but just moments of conversation in general I feel are the best parts of the film whether it’s the villains, Tom’s Peter and the villains or the three Peter’s and the villains during or after the fights
The whole reason I watched the film is the reason I love the film, seeing them together as individuals but the same level of nerd.
Plus how it all ends has closure for the villains and a cliffhanger for each Spiderman which is fun.
I wonder why everyone just skips part where Andrew says that he stopped pulling his punches. People, his punches KILL, he is incredibly strong and every Spider-Man is, they are constantly controlling their strength as not to kill the enemies they are fighting. When Andrew said it I was not surprised but it was welcomed change and it showed that Gwen's death changed him in a way we didn't see in his movies.
I watched a video essay recently that said people typically watch action movies for the action, they sit through the in-between moments to get to the action. Marvel has changed that and people now go to these movies for the in-between moments. The three Peters shooting the breeze. The after party scene in Age of Ultron. Wanda and Vision cooking together in Civil War. These are the kind of moments we eat up as fans and I think Marvel knows that now.
It's weird. You grow up with fictional characters in your life in various iterations of themselves, but them as an idea, a 'person', can often be part of our lives longer than many of our flesh and blood friends. Fictional or not, they can still have an effect on our lives by the emotional impact or lessons they leave behind. I first seriously got into Spiderman while in a military hospital waiting to be discharged. I didn't have enough for a book, so picked up a comic from the shop to pass the time. In it, Spidey had his back broken and was wrestling with how that would affect him as a hero and as a person. Meanwhile me, in a wheelchair, the coincidence of it and seeing him handle the situation... brought me to tears. That lesson of "With great power comes great responsibility" is a famous adage now and he's known worldwide as a role model for many young folks despite not being real. It's just amazing to me how impactful even imaginary individuals can be on our lives when we give them the chance.
Heroes are what we dare to put our hopes in, even if they aren't real.

Always fascinates me when people say "I'm surprised Peter has lasted this long" against Strange. People don't realise how powerful Peter truly is and that he restrains himself an INSANE amount. If he let go there's very few people in Marvel he couldn't tear apart with ease.

Spider-Man def holds back a lot, but there are tons of people “stronger” in the comics.
Dr strange can whip out black holes and alter the fabric of reality, spidey just can’t really compete with that.
The MCU fight only happened because strange underestimated Spider-Man and he thought of the battle more as like a dog running away from his owner with a chew toy. If it was a battle to the death, I think it would end differently.

Cannot lie, I am super envious of your first time experience. That movie in the theater was absolutely insane and almost as good as seeing endgame in the theater. Just the feelings and emotions from now all the way back to when we were teenagers and kids.
I had recently gone through a break up when the movie released. It was an amazing experience to watch in theaters and the overall energy just felt really good :,)
Just an FYI, all the spell did was erase people’s memories of Peter Parker specifically. It didn’t alter the past. This was because the botched spell was contingent on people knowing that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. By wiping everyone’s memory, it cancelled out the original spell and sent everyone home.
in the comics, daredevil did this with his identity. in like government documents or papers where his name used to be turned out blank after the spell. Also, mj still has the necklace Peter gave her!
It had to alter some more stuff though. Because otherwise there would be newspapers and billboards and videos with Spider-Man’s identity all over them.

It erased Peter Parker's existence from the world. And it obviously affected more than just memories because he can't go to school (no records) and he can't use the Iron Spider suit (he can't access Karen anymore). But Spider-Man still exists so anytime Spider-Man was involved that's all people think. That Spiderman was involved they don't remember that Peter Parker had anything to do with it so like for instance, suppose Tony Stark was alive, he would remember that he went to space with Spider-Man, but he wouldn't remember anything about Peter Parker himself. It would have just been Spider-Man.
Is it safe to assume that the final spell only affect Tom Holland's Spiderman or does this also affect other Spiderman?
The bit where Andrew catches MJ got me pretty bad in the theatre. The emotions on his face were so moving. Plus seeing Charlie Cox was a big treat!

@@scottchaison1001 Andrew's Spiderman tries to catch his Girlfriend, Gwen Stacey, as she fell in his timeline. He webs her but her spine breaks/she hits the ground too hard and dies. Saving MJ was a reliving of that traumatic loss... but this time he saved the girl. Not his girlfriend but still Spidey's girlfriend. His tears show how hard the memory was and how relieved he was to get it right this time.
This movie has to be my favorite Spiderman movie ever, and that's including Into the Spiderverse, which I love. It's such a love letter to the character and the history of his films, getting down to the heart of what makes Spiderman a great hero: the responsibility. He always does the right thing, even if it's hard or seems impractical, and this movie is all about that. He's not trying to stop a theft or save a city, he's just trying to give these villains a second chance because it's the right thing to do.
Plus, the way they used the other Spidermen and their villains to send that message was fantastic. I was so worried that they were just going to make fun of the older movies, especially Tobey's because of how campy and over the top they can be, but they respected them and treated them seriously, even making Willem's Green Goblin (arguably the campiest of all Tobey's enemies) the main villain. And they gave Tobey and Andrew screentime and character rather than just reducing them to a cameo at the end. For context I grew up with the Tobey movies as my Spiderman, my little brother had Andrew as his Spiderman, and my sisters had Tom as their Spiderman, and we all left the theatre loving the movie for how they treated all our favorite characters.
And lastly, I like how this took some of the criticism of the Tom Holland movies to heart. I think one of the biggest notes on MCU's Spiderman, and certainly one I agreed with, was that he felt too much like an MCU character and not "Spiderman" per say. He got a bunch of tech from Tony Stark, was going to space and fighting Thanos by his third appearance, and was being set up to be this leader among the heroes like the "next Iron Man." None of this was bad necessarily, but I used to say that Tom had the best "superhero movies" while Tobey had the best "Spiderman movies." But by the end of this movie, Tom really felt like Spiderman to me, living alone, down on his luck, no one knowing his secret identity, and having rent due. That final swing really solidified Tom as Spiderman to me. Such and amazing movie!

27:58 I totally felt for Andrew-Peter ("Peter B" as I called him watching this movie myself). In that moment, he was able to save a "Peter's girlfriend" where he couldn't save his Gwen. It was redemption for him. :'

The adrenaline can help with maintaining movement and consciousness through a fatal injury until it fades then unless you're in the hospital or receiving care, it's the last thing the body can do to save itself. The thing about Aunt May dying and everyone forgetting he's Spider-Man is the spell didn't affect time but it did affect everyone who had met him as Spider-Man. Tony first met him that way as well as Happy and all the Avengers. He has no one else, and in an added twist I believe because MJ and Ned met Peter BUT found out he's Spider-Man Strange's spell made them forget Peter entirely because that's what he unfortunately had to do. So now he's basically all alone and no longer with the Avengers he's the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and his story is kind of the reverse of the others.
If you re-watch the Amazing series again you'll notice Andrew really wasn't dorkier here. Hes very aloof, but when he's comfortable? Especially with Gwen? That's how he'd act like he does with his "brothers." It's such good character work and I believe it's part of the reason they really worked to make his depiction get some clear redemption (not just his Peter). They gave him middle brother syndrome with the others as a reflection of his depiction being also treated like the middle brother. And he basically showed with better writing he'd have been remembered more favorably.
Its a era for revisiting roles for some secondary appreciation, first Andrew and then Hayden Christensen.

I really like Willem Dafoe's performance in this film. It was amazing how he had gone from looking old and weak to being so terrifying as a green goblin.
At the ending scene, the reason he made his own suit is because this was his chance to start over, and him making that new suit and having that swing was him having a brand new start at the beginning

As someone who has a lot of mixed feelings on some of the older Spider-Man movies, I think this movie gave me a greater appreciation for them. It's rare that I feel nostalgic for something that I didn't feel overly attached to, which is enough of a reason on its own for me to love this movie
The older movies definitely are dated & some of them are not the best, but what stays consistent & is solidified in this film is Peter’s character/heart. Despite how different they are, the 3 Spider-Men are still very much the same

Maybe because I was young when his movies came out that when I watched them never really clicked and then when I watched TASM I was getting to be in late middle/early high school so I clicked easier with him. To me even though the writing in the TASM movies are not that great he does a phenomenal job regardless.

I mean SM2 is still one of the best Spider-Man movies so I don’t really see how that can be dated at all. If you care about story writing and character writing it’s pretty easy to follow.
The first time I watched this movie I felt weird about aunt May's death too. But now, rewatching it over and over, I understand that adrenaline must have helped her, so she could have one last dialogue with her nephew, even hiding her wounded hand from not only herself but also Peter.
Toby telling Andrew he's Amazing was one of the best moments. And obviously Professor X in the Multiverse of Madness trailer was epic too.

18:45 I really like the way this movie challenges the viewer and Peter alike. Our pragmatic, even selfish instinct is to say “none of the lives of these villains is worth the damage and hurt that’s been caused,” but May and the movie insist that what matters, what “Great Power and Great Responsibility” *means,* is that Peter owes it to TRY and help wherever he can, even if it hurts, even if it’s not practical, even if it means he regrets it later. To be a hero is to try anyway, in the face of all that, to help.
This is the very essence of who Spider-Man is and no other movie has captured it as perfectly as this.

If anything Mays death is actually very realistic. Her adrenaline is keeping her alive and shes doesnt even understand how injured she is at that moment. Peter himself is also in shock at that moment too. The memory thing is not retroactive. People who knew him just forget Peter Parker, everyrthing that happened before still happened.
And at the end when Strange slips up saying “everyone who has ever known or loved you, we..” and then catches himself. Such a suttle writing piece that I enjoyed.
Willem Dafoe insisted he would only come back if Goblin had a solid plotline, and the writers were like "we got you fam" and gave us both sides of the character.
Was pleasantly surprised they did the same with the other Peters. They actually took their past events into account on a personality level and gave them stuff to do here.

so when they made everyone forget peter they didn't take away his past, they literally just made everyone forget peter parker. everything that happened has still happened. everyone still knows theres a spiderman, just not peter.

The spell probably rearanged reality tho, bc if it only erases people's memories of Peter then there would still be recordings of his existence. Or Maybe it also rerwites people's memories, letting the door open for MJ and Ned to still being aware that they are related to Spider-Man. That would explain why Happy still remember that he works with Spidey.

This third movie actually completesTom's Spider-Man's origin story. May's death and the "great power, great responsibility" line are finally given, and at the end we see the real, comic-accurate costume (blue and red as opposed to black and red or armor).
The reason Peter wanted everyone to forget him is the same reason he promised Gwen Stacy's father to stay away from her. Everyone around him usually get hurt or die e.g (Uncle Ben , aunt may, Gwen Stacy and almost MJ)

May was in shock, and probably had compartment syndrome. She didn't know that she had terrible internal injuries, and just thought she had the wind knocked out of her.
The memory spell didn't change the past, it only made everyone forget Peter. Imagine a world wide blind spot where Peter just wasn't there for everyone. Things happened that he was involved in, but you'd only remember other people involved, not him. Memory is already so malleable that it's considered terrible evidence in court. What if your brain just decided that tiny bit of information wasn't important, so it let it go.

They are the most likely outcomes, but not absolute certainties. A slight turn at the last moment would lead to broken ribs, punctured organs, and internal bleeds without a broken spine.

Otto pairing with peters suit tech actually makes perfect sense as in Spider-Man 2 he references using a form of nano technology to develop the arms, same as peters suit

If you want to know more about Matt Murdock (Peters lawyer from the beginning) check out the Daredevil series currently on Disney Plus. He’s a fan favourite character, and for good reason. It’s far different from anything else in the MCU-more similar to a crime drama than a superhero series. Highly recommend a commentary when you have the time.

My interpretation of why the Erase Peter spell worked is that the first Spell to forget Peter is spiderman borked and started summoning people who knew Peter was spiderman from other universes. But by making everyone in the MCU forget Peter the original spell no longer has one of the key components, knowledge of Peter Parker's existence, so the new spell basically cancelled out the original one.
That's how I understood it.

My friends took me to see this the day after we buried my mom. I went on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, I was excited, and I cried so hard. I had to hold my friend's hands when May died, because it felt like we lost a mother figure. And then when MJ and Ned consoled Peter, I completely lost it because my friends were there with me for my grief. I don't know of any movie that has hit me harder than this. I think this is my absolute favorite Spiderman movie, however, I'm not sure if I'm ready to watch it in full again.

Mays death was probably more realistic than one would realize. The adrenaline is what kept her up and blinded to the critical wound. Also there’s a parental instinct to not show pain or weakness in front of your child so they don’t worry about you and you’re more concerned that they make it out alive than yourself.

Aunt May was running on adrenaline, which is how she was able to stand up and walk around. Unfortunately, she was bleeding out and doing those things accelerated that which lead her to go into shock which is why she kept repeating herself after she collapsed. Also, Tom Holland's Peter hasn't ever had an Uncle Ben that we know of so in the MCU, Aunt May took Uncle Ben's place in the narrative. Since the multiverse is infinite, there is also at least one universe where he had an Uncle Ben that he lost, who wasn't married to an Aunt May. Lastly, the ending spell only altered memories and not history. The bigger question though is how it affected any kind of records of Peter's existence. Like I don't think it actually removed any historical evidence of Peter, so his birth certificate is still on file, his school records are as well (which is how he'd still be able to get an apartment), just that anyone that was involved in creating, editing, and filing those records don't remember ever doing so and the reason why he's deciding to take the GED instead of finishing out his senior year is both so he could keep his distance from Ned and MJ and also because of how awkward and tedious it would be to have to reintroduce himself to all his teachers and the other students.
Uncle Ben definitely exists in the MCU otherwise May wouldn't have been May Parker (as she married into the Parker family), also in 'Far from home' Peter's briefcase had Uncle Ben's initials on it BFP (Benjamin Franklin Parker) May also wears Ben's wedding ring on a necklace around her neck which can be seen sometimes.
Also in the Zombie's What If episode the Peter in that timeline mentions Uncle Ben when listing people he's lost, that Universe is basically the same up until the Zombie Virus was brought back from the Quantum Realm.
So he definitely existed in the MCU and died like the others but unlike the other Uncle Ben's it seems like he didn't teach him the lesson about great power before he died, which may be why the MCU Peter doesn't feel like Peter a lot of the time and feels more like a blend of Miles and Peter (Ned is practically a MCU clone of Miles roommate Ganke Lee in the comics, so much so that 'Into the Spider-Verse' had to reduce Ganke's role in the film.)

Damn lowkey, understanding real life trauma and medical emergencies and how we as humans react it made May’s scene 10x more emotional for me in the theatre, you’re right at first you think yay she’s standing so there’s no death, but she walks shaky, talks shaky, poor balance… then when she collapses and she’s actually bleeding out, oof trust me that human realization hit. I feel bad you saw it with a more innocent understanding 😢
On a cool side note:
Otto’s trick to fool Electro actually was also to stop the electricity for the spidey’s. His arms are resistant so they wouldn’t conduct, once he makes contact he frees them
I think to think of the multiverse as exists simultaneously everywhere at all times. So they can pull from wherever and whenever. I also like to think of Dr. Stranges power in the same way he explained it to wong, the memories just aren't there, not that the party didn't happen. So everything peter has done in his life happened and they knew him then still. Its just the memories of the moments don't exist in peoples minds anymore.
The spell makes everyone forget Peter Parker and any memories they have of him, but not by reversing time or altering history. (Pushing the box's button wouldn't have brought May back to life either. Remember, Dr. Strange cannot reverse time anymore. Thanos destroyed the original Time Stone and Cap returned the other one back to The Ancient One in 2012.) The spell did not undo past events. Everything that happened in the previous films still happened. Everyone still remembers Spider-Man, but all knowledge that Peter is Spider-Man has been wiped from everyone's minds because the spell made everyone forget who Peter Parker was. (Peter's memory was not affected by the spell. He clearly remembers himself, and he's the only one in the world who remembers how things really happened.) The passage of time and the retention of memories are not inextricably linked. People forget shit all the time, but that doesn't mean that the shit they forgot didn't happen. So let go of the notion of reversing time as a means of making everyone forget, that option is off the table.
It's also assumed that any physical or digital data regarding Peter's existence has also been erased. Having the spell affect only people's minds would ultimately be pointless, since all anyone would have to do is watch a Daily Bugle video or read Flash's tell-all book to find out the truth again, though it is unknown if any of those things were completely wiped from existence or if they remain yet have been magically edited to remove Peter's name or any reference to him like a heavily redacted government document.
Anyone who knew Peter personally would probably experience large memory gaps, or their memories were revised to simply not include Peter, again much like a heavily redacted government document. They may still have their original memories, but they can't remember Peter's involvement in the creation those memories. Or perhaps they remember *someone*, they simply can't recall Peter's name or face.
Maybe future films will explore the full effects of the spell in detail. For example, they could have a joke about Flash's tell-all book detailing his "friendship" with Spider-Man containing a bunch of blank pages. Also, Ned does become a supervillain in the comics. So this ending could potentially set up his turn to villainy since he has no memory of his friendship with Peter to prevent him from going down a villainous path. That would make Peter feel guilty for never telling Ned the truth, and he'd feel personally responsible to try rehabilitating Ned.
My theory? It just blocks people from thinking about it. It doesn't need to physically erase the videos and the like if the person watching doesn't retain it, or substitutes 'Spiderman' into place.
Like when you are focused on a task, but listening to an audiobook, your mind might just skip through the last however many minutes of information being read, but you not notice until you realize you've lost the plot.
The mind can straight up make up false memories to fill in gaps, especially if the spell keeps you from thinking about it.
It would interesting if Ned for example still remembers their handshake, but doesn't remember who he did it with, but just doesn't think about it.

There’s an episode of Doctor Who where one of one of the characters has a staircase that leads to a second floor of his house (the house is only one story,) but he never noticed bc there was a perception filter that made him not think twice about random stairs that showed up. Since nothing can get undone from the past, mj and Ned probably have messages and photos from Peter, and the daily bugle still have evidence, but if they come across it they won’t think anything of it, just kinda skip over it like it isn’t there

- My opinion of what would probably be the biggest Gap/Strain for the loss of Peter awareness would be this ::
Ned was "The Guy in the Chair" - he would remember being The Guy in the Chair, but wouldn't remember knowing who he was working with, or why, and even if his awareness of that was fuzzy, other people would remember that Ned was The Guy in the Chair, so the fact that he was working so closely with Spiderman, but not know or remember how he got that position, would cause some strain/cracking of the memory block. I feel like most memory blocks would hold, but a few would be weakened, like Ned. The only person I can think of who would have had a higher likelihood of cracking open the blocked memory, would be Tony if he were still alive, I think it would only be a matter of time before he figured it out/remembered. Yes it is a spell, but Magic was used to mind control Clint, and eventually the magic weakened and he broke out of the spell. So I think some people could remember, but most of the world not having had any close relationship with him would not ever have a chance to remember.
Personally, I would have asked at least Dr. Strange to quickly tell him something that no one else besides him would have known, so he could go to him later and get his help, even if Steven still didn't remember him, he would believe him if the information was good enough and help him.
This of course, is just my personal thoughts. That's how I would have wrote it, but hey... I'm Not Stan, and it's his Universe. Speaking of which, I sure hope that they don't completely ruin all future Marvel movies - Multiverse of Madness isn't giving me much hope, but maybe it was just a fluke, and they'll be good again, knock on wood. But Stan is gone (RIP) and so "No Way Home" might have been that last good one.
I watched this movie a month after my mom suddenly passed away, It was probably the first time I came out of the house since.
I cried so hard during "that scene" in the movie I almost couldn't finish it,it just felt too real, to close to home way too soon, I couldn't even watch, I still skip through it but it's still an amazing movie and one of the best Spider-Man in my opinion.
I can relate. I lost my dad in september and I finally dragged myself out of the house to watch Shang Chi the last weekend it was in theaters. seeing and relating to so much of the father/son dynamic in that movie really took a lot out of me.

I know it’s such a small part, but it almost makes me tear up when the MIT lady realizes that Peter is a hero after all of the bad publicity he gets. Just imagine doing the right thing all the time only to have people make up stuff or think you were the bad guy all along.

It's crazy to think that the Goblin was right about that for all of them in the first Spider-Man. As he said after capturing Spider-Man and having the 'heart to heart', "In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually they will hate you." Granted, that's largely about media spinning the truth for viewership and it always seems like the people actually love him. But they're all impacted by media hate at some point.
He said "forget" not "erase their memory." The spell's memory wipe didn't go back in time, it just went on from that point like forgetting something would work irl. You just don't know it anymore. That's what the spell did at the end of the movie.
For those who are wondering about the spell: Bascially it erased everyone's memories about Spiderman real identity. All the events still happened, they remember there was a fights. They know about Spiderman. MJ, Strange, Ned, Happy, even the Avengers know Spiderman. As i said, all the events in the MCU still happened. But now they don't know who's behind the mask, that's all.
But that gets messy with Happy then knowing Aunt May. He met her through Peter as a direct relative.

Except the new spell erased everyone's knowledge of Peter Parker. That is why his friends had no idea who he was at the end. It would be a bit wonky when thee person that are erased from your memories are interconnected to other people in your life and/or integral to important moments in your life, but it's Magic!
@@Maratonkata No, he wouldn't know she had a nephew, that's the point. Peter effectively doesn't exist as a person, according to people's memories, any legal documentation, etc. It's why he needed to get a GED, because he wasn't enrolled in the high school anymore.
The spell that Doctor Strange casted in the end did not alter the past in any way. It just erased everyone's memories of Peter Parker specifically. Everyone only knows that Spider-Man exists, but they do not know that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

That moment where Peter calls out Norman was because he could sense his heartbeat speeding up compared to the others. Norman's dark side was already in control and knew Peter was onto him in that moment.
The suit at the end was a mix of all three suits tobey,Andrew,tom and the classic ditko/Stan lee frm the comics
May isn't stealing Uncle Ben's line, MCU Peter didn't have the Uncle Ben moment really, and I thought it was clever they gave it to May and after so many films with her, building that bond, it hit way harder. I think the task of reacting had you so focused trying to spot stuff that the impact of it missed you. The last act was a rollercoaster ride for me, the 3 Peters were funny and heartfelt and then MCU Pete just taking L's. Post Wipe, He was never existed, hence the GED books so he can get that diploma, never built relationships with MJ and Ned, May is dead so . He is literally alone in the universe, it is a huge bummer and I am excited to see how they reconcile it in his next stand-alone film, whenever that is.
The wonkiness of the Peter's erasure gives them more options in the long run. I think it was also a chance for Sony to try and decouple Spider-Man from MCU again so they have more freedom to tell their own stories. They could have the Holland Sony films, and then a different MCU Holland SM as well, with separate continuity. They could even have the SM that Venom is going to find in his world be Andrew Garfield if he was into it. Or they could introduce a live action Miles for Hardy-Venom's SM.
Fun fact, in the comics Uncle Ben didn't originally say the line, it was just a in a text bubble.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that Aunt May was quoting their universe's Uncle Ben in that moment. Something about the way she says it leads me to believe that it was a phrase their Ben may have lived by it as a personal motto, and she's referencing him in this moment to reassure Peter that he'd been doing the right thing.

People could function normally for some time with internal bleeding. Just because they are up and walking around doesn't mean they are automatically alright. People get head trauma, walk around for hours, and can just instantly drop dead. So Aunt May's death really wasn't that weird
Watching this movie in cinema, specifically the Andrew and Toby Reveal is something I will never forget.
When Tobey blocked Tom from killing Norman, that was a call back to the start of it all, since Tobey’s couldn’t stop it
someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but may's reaction to being mortally wounded is actually pretty realistic. the shock and adrenaline of the moment distracted her from the immediate pain and helped her walk for a bit, and then in the moment of peace her brain caught up with her body and she collapsed.
You are correct, internal bleeding from a crash and the shock wave form an explosion that close affects internal organs and that would be unnoticeable until it's too late and depending on how severe the internal injuries are you could last several minutes or seconds, specially if you are in shock and with adrenaline pumping. And it's not like her "brain caught up with her body", she just bled out internally, so she was basically slowly fainting into her death .

My problem w/ May's death is that at the speed she was hit by the goblin glider, I think her back would've snapped immediately and in essence, killing her immediately as a result. It seemed very unrealistic to me when I watched it.
So mad she skipped the Matt Murdock scene from this video. I get she hasn’t seen Dadedevil so she wouldn’t have recognized Matt. But still, it was such a cool scene :(

Specially with the brick catching scene, which got them curious to who Matt was. I guess Nat just didn’t find it impressive and left it out.

Fun fact: when Andrew’s Spider-Man saved MJ, the reason he looked at the ground first and not her was because he was afraid that he wasn’t able to save her in time. He was too scared to look at her Incase he wasn’t able to save her. Andrew said this in an interview.

I always loved the MCU's subtle unspoken treatment of Uncle Ben's death & "with great power" (like when Aunt May freaks out about Peter going missing in Homecoming, or when Tony tells Peter he's officially an Avenger in Infinity War) but it worked so well in this AND it totally subverted expectations. The writers had everybody like "OH NO!!!...lol nvm ofc not...WAIT OHHH NOOOOOO!!!"
Yeah, it seemed like the were trying to say it without saying it… just trying not to be redundant. But then when she dropped it in that scene…. I was like Ohhhh. And then “oh, yeah, she’s dead.”
Can we take a moment to appreciate the writing during the scene where Toby was telling Andrew to work on his self-talk and that he was "amazing," as in, he was from The Amazing Spiderman movies? (Note: It was cut from this reaction... along with Murdock /cry)

Miles Morales does in fact exist in the MCU, his uncle talked about him during Spiderman: homecoming. Donald Glover played the criminal Peter unsuccessfully tried to interrogate Aaron Davis. That does give a possibility of doing an origin story for Miles in the future.
Aaron definitely mentioned his nephew. personally I was really happy with how they treated Miles in into the Spider-verse so I'm not too keen on seeing yet another original story for Miles. I think it would be interesting since he is presumed to travel dimensions/universes the version we follow can be the one to show up in the future if they go that way. And if they definitely do I think it would be cool having Shamiek Moore as live action Miles.

I'm confused as to how May's death scene was confusing or bizarre. She was bleeding out, standing up and trying to move would have accelerated that, makes sense to me.

Exactly. It was most likely adrenaline that let her stand up as long as she did afterwards.
Yeah, it was actually a very realistic depiction of shock and severe internal bleeding.
Yeah, it's been known to happen irl - particularly in heated combat situations when adrenaline is high and a lot happens all at once. As an example, a soldier on a battlefield can be mortally wounded from a gunshot and not even notice he was hit until it's too late to help him.

alot of people dont get the ending with him having the new suit , he has the new suit because the old suit doesn't work anymore for him because the suit doesn't know who peter parker is, so the stark technology wont activate for him and with his new suit he is finally becoming spiderman because in these mcu spiderman movies he was really iron boy so the next movies tom Holland wont be iron boy anymore and will become the spiderman
