I challenge you to step out of your digital realm and jump back 50 or 60 years and shoot some large format photography and look at the differences and/or historic growth. This could be an awesome project and stretch your legs by getting back to basics and perhaps checking out a digital back - even though they are hella expensive. Great work and all the best to you!

Im an amateur photographer and shoot on a crop sensor, Canon 77d, and love it. It captures excellent images. When I go shoot with some of my friends that have full frames you can’t even tell the difference.
Great video as always! A small comment from a stickler. FF actually does not result in a shallower depth of field. Since the field of view is larger though it requires a different focal length to get the same field of view resulting in difference in depth of field. A 50mm lens have the same depth of field at the same aperture on FF and crop but since field of view is different you are going to stand at another distance shooting and that affects the depth of field. Wiseass out.
Thanks for sharing this Peter. I have watched so many videos and read so many articles about these basic things but I have never understand it until now. You are the best.

Camera basics videos gets you back to start point if you're facing problems, even after a long time of practicing photography ... and...AND ... finding a solution for them. 2nd. Now i know that this video, should be followed by a tutorial video (you absolutely made the photography world a better place to live in, with those videos back in the days) about editing RAW in Lr or Ps.
Bonus tip: make sure your camera has the option set to take both RAW and JPEG for each shot. Takes up more space but if you quickly need a picture to share can take the JPEG and work with it

6:50 I love his explanation. I want to say “Risk of being closer to a bear (for FF) VS being away from bear but risk of falling off a cliff (for APC)” For nerds, a comment here. At the same distance from the bear 🐻, APC and Full Frame(FF) are seeing with same focal distance. You can think like FF gets extra scene around what APC is seeing. When APC is getting the bear’s face, FF is getting bear’s body as well. That’s why FF user needs to come closer to bear if they want to get a “same face shot of the bear”as APC takes, which has the ONLY face without body. In an opposite way, if APC user wants to get body shot of the bear🐻as FF takes, they need to walk back from the bear. They need to have a risk to fall off a cliff. 🏔🚧 However, someone can think “Then, I can crop FF image to get the same face shot of APC.” Yes, you can because Usually FF has more pixels (6000x4000)than APC (4800x3200). Here, we need to compare the resolution, the number of pixels. FF has more pixels, however, the cropped image, as same size as APC image, is losing the resolution. 6000/1.5 = 4000 (I just used 1.5 to make it easy). The bear’s face is being more pixelized. But FF sensor has a bigger pixel area, the area of photodiode. The photodiode is like a bucket getting lighting droplets. Since FF has a bigger bucket to get light, each pixel and image will have less noise. Cropped FF image will be more pixelized though less noisy.
I've worked as a videographer for years and already knew all this, but somehow Peter still makes me click (really freakin fast) and then watch the whole thing like it's the first time I here about this. That if anything, is magic in my world. Thank you Peter for being such an inspiration!
I got a camera the other day, have been wanting one for years and finally got one. I got the canon powershot sx540 as I was told it is good for beginners. Loving it!!

No really there are lots of advantages with micro four thirds mainly size and features also in a lot of cases in low light they are just as good if not better cause of the 'low' megapixel count of the sensors 16-20 compared to 24 on apsc and 30-40 on full frame

Hey peter, I've been so hooked on your videos lately. anything I type into TH-cam search bar regarding cameras your name always pops up, how nice is that. thanks for sharing. :)
Fantastic video Pete. I do however have one small concern regarding your comparison between Full Frame and APS-C sensors. I like to think of a crop sensor as not offering an increase in focal length but rather nothing more than a cropped version of the scene given the fact if you were to compare the images side by side the details of any objects aren’t magnified ergo the focal length doesn’t really change.
this is the only dude that explains things in a way I actually understand and it stays in my brain. I love this man.

6:50 I love his explanation. I want to say “Risk of being closer to a bear (for FF) VS being away from bear but risk of falling off a cliff (for APC)”
For nerds, a comment here. 🏔🚧
However, someone can think “Then, I can crop FF image to get the same face shot of APC.” Yes, you can because Usually FF has more pixels (6000x4000)than APC (4800x3200).
Loved the info graphic's. You've upped your game yet again. Nice job.

Good to See you getting back to your old routine
Can we have a part 4 now since we all at home because quarantine?
Where is the super energetic “BWhat’s up everyone” that always brings a smile to my face no matter what kind of day I’m having. BTW you are awesome no matter what you present. You rock dude!
“Feels good to be early” ... *sees 200 comments* ...... *blames notifications coming later than everyone else*
How much effort did you put into writing that?
Justin about as much effort as it took you to write yours
sem
*realises it makes absolutely no difference*
You are a master of your fields but moreover you give real values in the easiest way for beginners to grasp. Wish I came across your vlogs earlier.
Again Pete, look at your description cause it still says 2019... just to make sure you keep everything up to date! Even the little things! Love
There's no problem with last year tech, especially when the price drops lower.
It's still February...
DOICES i know but last year tech is probably still available in 2020, so last year tech is this year’s tech as well
Nathan Duarte off what year?😉
@@JBoeveNL then wouldn't adding 2020 make it misleading for last year tech?
So far the best video (series) explaining camera basics PM! Was planning on doing something similar to this but seeing you nailed it all now I’m more than inspired and got an idea how to do mine. Thanks for the great explanation again PM!
1.6x crop if you're a Canon user. For the rest of us, is usually 1.5x.
Or 2x if it's mft
No one shoots Nikon. Lol,jk
Noel Sj Lot of people shoot Sony, though, and their lower end cameras are APS-C. Fuji cameras aren’t too
Hey peter,
I've been so hooked on your videos lately. anything I type into TH-cam search bar regarding cameras your name always pops up, how nice is that. thanks for sharing. :)
It was killing me after I realized that the blue light behind you wasn't centered
Yesss! These are my favorite videos. Very helpful. Please make more. Can’t wait for the fourth installment.
Wow
Edit: just wanted to be early
Thank you SO MUCH Peter. Your videos are always SUPER high quality, SUPER clear, and SUPER informative.
"What's up everybody"....
😨😳
yeaa, what happened?
@@wesolowskimatt haven't really heard it in quite some time
Something's wrong, something's really wrong
Yeah🙄
Ok
Hey Pete, it is very helpful when you include visuals when you are trying to explain something. Great content!
0:06 *shia lebeouf voice* JUST... MAKE... VIDS!
Another amazing video peter for sure one of my favorite series
When it says no views but 14 likes
When you realise it takes .01 seconds to press the like button but 15:07 to watch the video..? 🤦♂️
@@Nootus clicks count as views, and it doesn't require you to fully watch the video.
Fantastic video Pete. I do however have one small concern regarding your comparison between Full Frame and APS-C sensors. I like to think of a crop sensor as not offering an increase in focal length but rather nothing more than a cropped version of the scene given the fact if you were to compare the images side by side the details of any objects aren’t magnified ergo the focal length doesn’t really change.
never been this early lol
Lawren Santos same
stalker status haha
Same. It’s weird to watch enough TH-cam to catch stuff in minutes.
Hala sige magfiesta tayo
same dude can i get an award
For architecture on cropped sensor I bought the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. Most buildings over here can be captured in full at the 11mm setting.
