the reason the lawyer didn't continue is because you could've counter sued for your perceived losses from a high paying customer and they would've lost more money than what they were probably looking to be paid for
That collections lawyer realized losing $1500 was WAY cheaper than you taking him to court for damaging your reputation and costing you a high end customer. I would get it in wiring or an email the next time they guarantee delivery.
I assume you meant in "writing" not "wiring" but yeah, probably why he was so apologetic, because he realized the company could be on the hook for a lot of money if he took them to court. I guarantee you it WAS in writing as you sign a contract with the carrier for the delivery. He could have legitimately sued them for breach of contract(this would be so obvious he would probably get a summary judgment), loss of business, and damage to his reputation, just for starters. (The fact that the collection agent was harassing people that had no legal obligation to pay the company anything probably would have got them in trouble too, if he bothered to report it.) Merely losing the $1500 for the delivery fee was letting them off the hook VERY easily.
@@dsruddell was probably united road. Or hogan im a car hauler myself but swift do auto transport just they do flat bed with usually 3 cars for Amazon vans.
I’m a high end auto transporter. Very good customer base and all of my business is referrals and repeat customers. I hear some horror stories about other shippers.
Needed to ship quite valuable box of goods to a customer in 2 days, the shipping company didnt answer my calls when it was day late for delivery so I used the tracking number to see where it is and just walked in to some distribution warehouse, picked up the packet from a shelf (I knew exactly what the box looked like) and drove to my customer to deliver it. Most funny part was that the shipping company called me and paid some ridiculously shitty amount of euros as a "compensation" for the package that they thought they had lost.
Had my very bad experience too... I was leaving Germany for another country, for work, and wanted my motorcycle to follow me. I needed a truck to come before I move out, and arrive after I move in, so I can take the delivery. Which was kinda tricky to find (specific place, specific timing...), especially when you're not a professional or used to the process of finding a moving company. Found one, who was already going there anyway on those dates, and seemed really ok with the timing and everything. They were cheap, but not THAT cheap so I would be skeptical. They had insurance, they spoke my language. Seemed fine! The truck arrives. First surprise, it's a truck for CARS, not motorcycles. But the guy says "no worries, I'll unload that car here now, and I have straps." He seemed to know what he was doing, and I had to leave right away, so I left and was like "well, he's a professional. He'll figure.". Wrong. D-Day, delivery time: bent handle bar, left and right fairings highly scratched, huge dent on the gas tank and the custom exhaust. You know how he actually loaded the bike? AGAINST THE SIDE OF A CAR, HANGING ABOVE THE ROAD!!! He never unloaded a car to give space to my bike! It's been bouncing around the whole trip, for a few days!!! They forced me to pay the delivery, pretending it was the only way to get the damages covered by their insurance. Guess what? They never have been covered for motorcycles transportation, only cars! They faked the documents! Name of the company: Deko Group UAB, based in Vilnius, Lithuania. That last precision should have told me there was something wrong...
I am in the trucking industry. So I will pass on some free advice. All of you watching this.... Deal with one man or 2 man shows when shipping something this spendy and in a time crunch. The bigger the company the more people can f up your shipment. Check the " Motor Carrier # " FMCSA Snap shot record (google it). You want to hire a guy with a lot of inspections and very low violations. You can see all their tickets they have had for the last 2 years. Hire a guy with a nice truck. Doesn't have to be new but it should be clean and well kept. If he opens the doors and shit falls out, its your fault for what you get. Ask for referrals and verify the referrals. And always remember that you get what you pay for. Also put a clause in the "rate conformation that stipulates a charge back if they are late. IE they say Monday and get there Tuesday then they owe you 500$ each day. Good Luck!
I worked as a dispatcher for a trucking company and let me tell you, It is a really "LIE ALL THE TIME" job. You constantly have to cover for incompetent drivers that don't feel like they are obligated to call in and answer the phone to their dispatcher, broker, customer. It is a nightmare of a job. Truck constantly "break down" because a better paying job has been found, or because the driver does not pick up the damn phone or because they took a detour they were not supposed to take, they run into "car accidents" or "construction work on the road" all the time, brokers lie about when the cargo has to be at the delivery site, they lie about pick up times. It is a crappy job. Glad I don't work that job anymore.
Cool Maniac what about a decent pay for a decent job? I can understand the point of trying to make money, but any job worth doing is worth doing right. You can have a shitty job but still find something to make it enjoyable.
Holy shit, an honest dispatcher? I'll pay you half of my check every week to come back to being a dispatcher and work on my loads. Almost every new load I'm on the phone for half an hour because none of the info I was sent isn't correct.
I’m a trucker. I’ve worked with some good dispatchers before. It maybe a time or two where communication could break down but if anything I had some issues dealing with some brokers
I know dispatchers lie period , not all of them but many do many make unrealistic promises that are impossible to fulfill and put much stress upon the driver, who often faces many challenges the dispatchers are unaware of, many just don't give a shit.
Troy baden - you must have a short distance to travel to/from school if 5-10 minute videos do the trick. You should download the audio as an mp3 or the video as an MP4 and then not need to use data to stream the video on your journey.
I agree about the trucking companies. I tried getting my BRZ shipped from Pennsylvania to Colorado and after waiting weeks for them to pick it up despite saying they will pick it up in less than 3 days, I told them to pound sand and had my friend drive the car out. Before that I tried another trucking company and they told me their trucker won't go south of Denver. Denver is 250 miles away from me. They couldn't even deliver to my address as they advertised because their trucker was a lazy diva. I can't wait for autonomous trucks to put these idiots with no work ethic out of business for good.
You're going to be waiting a long time before autonomous auto haulers become a thing. We're still in the infancy of the infancy of automated trucking, and it hasn't even begun progressing through legislative red tape yet.
Well yes and no. Transport companies are a real pain in the ass and always try to lie their way through a conversation, I witnessed a logistics manager try to twist someones words but shut up real quick when we offered the solution of never contracting his company again. But in Rob's case he doesn't understand that no one runs a car transport route from New York to California. Financially, it wouldn't make sense. The broker had to stretch it out over various carriers. He's a smart guy, just not in the transportation world, I mean have you seen the flatbed that he built? Simply a money wasting idea.
The collections counsel was probably worried that you would counter for losses related to their bad behavior. Honestly, I would have gone after them for breach of contract at the very least.
A GPS Tracker may be a good investment for when you need to ship a car and know exactly where it is at all times and what kind of progress it's making across the country.. Would have been very handy for that first story to know that it wasn't on it's way to Las Vegas and wasn't in Arkansas either, but rather sitting in Memphis..
The second story about the Porsche, it seems to me like you could of sued for slander as well as loss of income so that’s probably why the lawyer apologized and “fixed it” for you
as a truck driver myself. i would like to appologize on behalf of those shit drivers you have had to deal with. most of us drivers hold ourselves to a high standard but sadly sometimes a few drivers squeeze into the industry or companies into the industry who just dont give a shit. if i might make a recommendation for future deliveries? always check with whom the carrier is. find a good carrier and build a rep with them. then always use this carrier for your shipping needs! you will get better service if you can form a regular shipping/recieving venture with this company and then when you need them they will go the extra mile for you. just make sure you pay well for services given and also keep in touch with the carrier owner on a first name basis. enjoy no more shit fuckery from bad drivers!
I've had a similar experience. Shipped a built Alfa Romeo from Toronto to Portland. Car changed trucks 3 times and was a week late. When arrived, it had a 1 foot dent in the nose and boot tracks all over the hood and deck lid from being walked on. I would NEVER hire transport again. Went back to transport place an chewed them out so bad they had to call the cops for me to leave premises.
He doesn't need to name them, they're all scumbags. Never, ever pay anyone to transport a car for you. Drive it there or if you're worried about mileage, rent a Uhaul trailer and truck, and pay your best friend to drive it there.
As a trucker it sounds all too familiar companies overpromising and under delivering. One has to ask how the company also screwed the drivers too. Now with ELDs in these rigs it's much worse. The reason I no lo get truck full time. Good luck. FSC
Shipping cars is not pizza delivery, thousands of miles with MANY , unexpected situations , traffic , lost time within drop offs , but not paying somebody , did you think they were not gonna call around ?
I had a similar experience with shipping a car. I had worked my butt off and saved up to get a Taurus SHO (wanted something fast but couldn't afford insurance on a Mustang GT) when I was 16. I found the car I wanted at a dealer about 6-7 hours away. I hired a shipping company off of Uship. I got the whole "the truck broke down" story and everything. It wasn't till I threatened to report my car stolen that they got serious. Ended up getting it delivered 3 days late at 3:45AM on a school night haha.
holy hell after hearing these stories makes me think if i had a truck and trailer i'd have endless business shipping cars if the only thing i had going for me was keeping my word on showing up on time.
I work in the food distribution industry, and man the shipping nightmares we have....this is a whole lot worse given that they're exotic cars, but I can certainly relate to the attitudes of the shipping companies and some of the truckers! The vast majority are fantastic, but some....not so much lol
Bacon around the windshield wiper could possibly be = the truckers thought the car had an Arab owner and wanted to send an overt racist message is my guess
@Teodor Gumovsky You are correct, it isn't racist. It is zenophobic. Note: Technically, there is only one race of humans currently on earth, homo sapiens. All human variations are tribal.
I had a similar problem...bought a 650 Msport from Sacramento BMW dealer and shipped to virginia. it will be there 7 days from pick up....when is pick up...tomorrow. called next day...not picked up...because they "couldnt find it". Next day it was some how shipped to a different BMW dealer in California. Third day...its on the truck. Needless to say it didnt arrive on the day they said. It arrived 14 days later.
Yes. We had someone do that we an Aventador once. We encouraged them to cancel the shipment but they insisted. He crashed it into the side of the truck.
I am so amazed that Doug can keep his composure and remain positive while recounting these stories. Just hearing them makes me upset. A company cost him an important client and got away with it! Is there no way to hold these guys accountable for their negligence??

Some of the best deals are the sketchiest ones. I can see the issue with the box truck, but at least he actually made it compared to the actual haulers..
Wish y’all would hire me to transport your vehicles. 1.5mil miles accident free. class A driver... if I could get enough business I’d dedicate myself to hauling vehicles only
I'm a retired gearhead with my own collection (C avatar)...maybe I should get a specialized enclosed trailer to help these guys out....and get out of my wife's hair....(hmmmmm)
SuperSpeedersRob finally gave up and bought his own ramp truck. But even at that, if you're shipping multiple cars to different places at different times, it would be cost prohibitive to operate an entire fleet.
It pisses me off when people have a simple job to do and they still find a way to fuck it up. And to top it all off they'll try to hide their incompetence under their sorry excuses.
As a tow operator, shipping cars in box vans is very common. Most movers offer this service, they load your household goods in then call my company and we load your car on the back. I even move cars for Hansen's forwarding. The big car haulers can't go into residential areas, so we deliver them to the customer's door right off the train.
And yes it includes exotic cars. I have even loaded the new models into convention buildings so they could make the elevator ride up to a convention room for their big reveal. The new model is always covered in bubble wrap and cardboard to disguise it's looks.
I had an 18 month ordeal with two of my deceased dad's classic cars coming across Canada. Similarly had to hire a whole other company to basically steal them back and bring them to me. I will NEVER ship another car in my life without first owning a gun...
Doug is always a fun guy to listen to, full of great stories and great at telling them. Thanks for coming back down!
Ed Bolian you should make another story video :)
I'd rather be a fun guy than a fungi!
Amazing channel !

I apologize as a 14 veteran I’m sorry for what those did
Jaime Hernandez I agree sir lazy guys like those put us other hardworking truckers in shame.

Agree. When I had my NSX shipped, the driver maintained contact throughout the delivery process. I appreciated his professionalism.
It's kinda funny that the most sketchy carrier is one of the few that did a good job.
Max D never judge a book by its cover I guess.

36 people work at the shipping company
4 more unreliable shippers
673 now lmao
By far the most interesting channel on TH-cam. Such a good concept for a channel 😅
Based in your experience, perhaps I will install a LoJack before shipping my car.
Growing quickly I see! Love the videos these story's are so fun to listen too!
How a car channel actually can be more interesting with less action. Nailed it.
Oh, and I especially liked Doug's generic "shirt" shirt.😎

Edited 'cause I changed my mind towards "none of Your business", titswise, but nice to see You alertly paying that much attention. 😂
It comes as an email ...
Iv been watching alot of the videos on this channel the past couple weeks. Im sold, subscribed!
Doug Demuro just posted a video... but I’d rather watch vinwiki instead. No comparison
But did you read his column on Autotrader?
Oh no, what did he almost crash on a straight piece of road this time?
But does vin wiki come with a bumper to bumper warranty?
Forget Doug
Demuro is garbage
Wow, still cant believe that a few people accidentally hit the thumbs down button. Great story!
Those who hit the thumbs down are truckers. They always have an excuse for being late.
The second story about the Porsche, it seems to me like you could of sued for slander as well as loss of income so that’s probably why the lawyer apologized and “fixed it” for you
This.
" sued for slander" definitely not
"loss of income" maybe but by no means a guaranteed payout
footbalr074 true but enough of a chance for loss of income they’d just forget the $15k tho for sure
Damn, that GT2 story was insane. The guys on this channel tell stories so well. Love it. Subbed.
Thanks!
I have wet dreams about collections attorneys apologizing. It sounds like heaven.
I’ve been dealing with shippers for 3 years now. It’s crazy how much they lie about exact pickup and drop off time. The man is telling the truth!
I love these looks behind the scenes of the car business. Sounds like an epic nightmare.
The quality of this channel will make it blow up to millions of views someday. The stories are intemporel and fascinating.

Great stories Doug, they're so infuriating that they're almost comical. Some impressive will power to not name those trucking companies.
He doesn't need to name them, they're all scumbags. Never, ever pay anyone to transport a car for you. Drive it there or if you're worried about mileage, rent a Uhaul trailer and truck, and pay your best friend to drive it there.
You guys better have like a podcast or something cuz every single stories you guys post are fantastic
I’ve found using shippers who use terminals to be the most reliable.
Dave Black as long as they don't use bash

How did the R8 get loaded in the first place?
More than likely a loading dock and some ramps.
Think of the person's mindset releasing this R8 into a box truck! hehehe
"it had a crispy piece of bacon wrapped around the windshield wiper" best line ever.
Last time I was this early, the stereo shop employees still hadn't taken their lunch break.
Wasn't it a camera store?
Great story. I have had many issues with transporters as well.

Gus Kipper what about the 918 spyder?
holy hell after hearing these stories makes me think if i had a truck and trailer i'd have endless business shipping cars if the only thing i had going for me was keeping my word on showing up on time.

Teodor Gumovsky the assumption that Arabs are Muslim is probably racist
So still racist
That R8 story is nuts. At an old job, we took infinitely more care shipping a busted old Ford Explorer than that dude did with that R8.

I love the stories of this guy, I hope to be like him someday
Last time I was this early, I was so fast I got 6 tickets at once..
The last one is the one that blew my mind!
Yes. We had someone do that we an Aventador once. We encouraged them to cancel the shipment but they insisted. He crashed it into the side of the truck.
Ed Bolian That is very sad... poor bull
Last story reminded me of the show shipping wars and how "professional" some of those people are
I cant begin to imagine how frustrating that must have been for you!!
Dealing with truckers is the absolute worst.
I am so amazed that Doug can keep his composure and remain positive while recounting these stories. Just hearing them makes me upset. A company cost him an important client and got away with it! Is there no way to hold these guys accountable for their negligence??
Even worse, the company had the audacity to have their lawyers call Doug. It's like they were instigating their own lawsuit against them
Several small storys yes! More of that!
I love listening to this guys stories but I have to watch them in 1.25 speed hahahaha
What a creative shirt.

Some of the best deals are the sketchiest ones. I can see the issue with the box truck, but at least he actually made it compared to the actual haulers..
I know someone who was having his Giulia Sprint GT shipped to him and it got rear ended on the trailer yesterday😬
Always great to hear from experienced tongue; I'm learning what the ins-and-outs of the exotic car world really entail. Keep up the wonderful videos!
What a shirt this guy has lol
You guys are abselutly amazing.
Having so nuch fun just listening to you crazy stories.
Name these companies! Thanks for the advice but they need to be truly punished..
nathan greer it would be bad practice, not to mention he could possibly get sued.
Yup welcome to shipping! I was a shipping manager. You cannot rely on truckers alot of the times
Wish y’all would hire me to transport your vehicles. 1.5mil miles accident free. class A driver... if I could get enough business I’d dedicate myself to hauling vehicles only
That's a lot of miles!
Love your stories...Especially the R8 story...Thats crazy loco! I am glad it ended well.
Maybe ask doug demuro next as a guest
Work in the industry and have seen farmers show up with flatbed trailers and cheap walmart ramps try to load $60K cars and absolutely destroy them.
Geez. This gave me anxiety just listening to it. I would've lost my mind.
I'm a CPA for a large transport company, and these things just make my eyes burn
A guy dealing with such expisive cars , should have his own truck to take car those stuff
We do have an enclosed trailer for expedited local delivery, but I'd have to own 10 trucks to go all across the country to meet my clients' needs.
This is definitely one of my favorite videos. Great job VinWiki!
I watch all of vin wiki's videos
Thank you!
I can sit and listen to his stores forever....
Should have sued the company
It pisses me off when people have a simple job to do and they still find a way to fuck it up. And to top it all off they'll try to hide their incompetence under their sorry excuses.
Hi vinwiki! Love looking forward to getting off school and watching vinwiki
OMG. I hope I never have to ship my car.
Wow that GT2 delivery story had me angry, I can only imagine the frustration of that mess!
Subscribed. Just found this channel and it is excellent!
8:20 that's because the lawyer realized you could've actually sued them for damages lol.
Thanks for another good day vinwiki
That guy is a great story teller. Good one.
VINwiki deserves more subs than 207k! How are you still only the size you are?
We just started releasing videos last August. Help us spread the word!
ive been with yall since 5K! I just love the channel!
I had an 18 month ordeal with two of my deceased dad's classic cars coming across Canada. Similarly had to hire a whole other company to basically steal them back and bring them to me. I will NEVER ship another car in my life without first owning a gun...
