I always thought it was part of Xbox Game Bar thing and it looked pretty good. They also slightly redesigned Game Bar in Windows 11 so it looks even better.

A lot of these are desktop environments, not operating systems. It could also be argued that all of the different versions of Windows are the same OS, just different releases/versions.

After years they finally redesigned the volume.

GNOME 42 and onwards now gets away from the Apple style and now has a slimmer appearance for all of the OSDs including the volume OSD

Actually Windows 7 and earlier has The Volume changer. It's on the Notification area. Clicking the speaker icon will open the Volume Rocker
