    • @RuskiWeldFab

      havent decided yet. most likely would have to be moulds as will need 2 parts inner as well for strenght

  • @travisstaggs1774
    @travisstaggs1774 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Vacuuming a few parts that are on the heavier side will help with the weight, gets you a better resin to Fibre ratio and better compression of the layers. It wouldn't be much saving mind you, but a few grams adds up

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      great tip! i tried it before and it tends to distort the part too much. unless its from a mould. so would rather have few extra grams vs headache once its distorted. also i weight all the resin to fabric to get good ratio anyways.

    Good result....What about speed holes to make it lighter, like the 70's style rally cross cars...I've been using Sikaflex with a primer / activator for fixing the glass into our gravel rally car. It also works well on our poly carb side windows. We were warned about the activator blooming the poly carb, but it seems to be alright. It's the first car we've had that the windows don't leek.

    Not as light as you had hoped but as a percentage it's still about 50% lighter than an already light FG one! You should be comparing it with a full weight steel/glass one

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Been watching all your kevlar videos, inc the Micra videos. They have been very insightful for my Clio race car. Thank you for the detail you have gone to.
    Although when using the OE panel as the mould are you not creating a kevlar part with different dimensions to OE? Surely they would be too large. Using the kevlar as a mould to reproduce the outer skin on the underside of the kevlar unit would produce the same size OE panel.
    Have you run into this being an issue?

    • @RuskiWeldFab
      @RuskiWeldFab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it does but only by the thickness of the panel. in most cases 1-1,5mm. so never an issue

    You can’t win them all buddy sometimes the juice is not worth the squeeze so to speak but it looks great and it came out awesome at the end when you do the doors and whatever you need to do doing carbon Kevlar you should do a total weight of the car compared to stock how much of a Weight savings 🤔😊👍🏽

    • @tedpalmer1537

      @@RuskiWeldFab there are drawbacks but it's probably the next biggest single weight saving once you've re-made all the fibreglass parts in Kevlar. Not sure on your class rules bur you could then remove a lot of the front end metal work.
