    I will always remember the episode of the Cosby Show when Denise wanted to buy a car and she had 1,600 in the bank and Clare said no, you are not buying that car...and Denise mouthed off about this being America and she could do with her money as she pleased. Clare told Denise,that if she ever talked to her that way again that she could take her money and go discover America.....LOL!! That was brilliant to me.

    I agree with her 100%. I don't even watch any of the new sitcoms because they're so awful. Everything revolves around lust now. And when there is a decent show, it doesn't last. This next generation will not know what good television is.

    • @LegionIvory
      @LegionIvory 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Very few shows captivates an audience for years on end.
      Even fewer sitcoms manage to have that kind of effect. The Cosby Show was a powerful display of both fiction and reality, and it taught the world a great deal about life and what it can hold. There will never be another show like it, especially today.

      *Cosby show was real to Black Professionals who lived that lifestyle*, but not so real to lower working class blacks Or those in the Ghettos who struggled to make ends meet. There has always been 2 parent homes with both Black Parents in the Professional world earning great income. Even back in the 50's and 60's. The problem is with the negative Stereotypes and stigma that is shoved down America's throat about African/Black Americans that non-blacks and the lower class blacks are prone to believe.

    She still looks nice. Aging very well. She said something very profound and poignant! She said that Drama appeals to the emotions but Comedy appeals to the Intellect. As an intellectual that warms my heart because I can make a person laugh just by telling my daily experience and it's so easy to me but I can't always engage that person into an intellectual debate or discussion about science! The reality shows of today are intellectually draining and indoctrinizing bullshit into the minds of simple minded people who can't decipher reality from fantasy!

    Now putting Bill Cosby aside (and as I am a Christian it is NOT MINE to judge his guilt or innocence but only God) - I do believe that this was a wholesome show compared to truly sinful shows such as Modern Family, The Family Guy, (which I didn’t like BEFORE I was a Christian so there LOL) and particularly Roseanne (which I DID like before I was a Christian but no longer watch). This show did not have to have violence, swearing, pre-marital sex (although it MAY have contained some I’m not sure) but overall compared to TODAY (2018) The Cosby Show was wholesome family entertainment and genuinely funny.

    • @rochyns8567
      @rochyns8567 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was genuinely funny but there was some hidden sinfulness such as feminism and emasculation of the men on the show.

I'm not black and i never even thought of the Huxtables as a black family.. I just thought of them as a big american successful, funny family. Have to agree that it takes intellect to come up with funny lines or rather a quick wit. I love the Dean Martin roasts and the funniest lines were absolutely brilliant. I was lost with the last part on meditation. Don't know where that came from but I think she wasn't talking about a spiritual process as much as it was about creativity. She is basically reflective and uses that process on her craft. Most professionals do or should anyway.

    I watched the Cosby's with my dad growing up and I understand the social and historical relevance of the show, but I think ppl over estimate how comical it was. Bill Cosby is very hokey and has grand dad humor. He is an observation comic like Seinfeld. His brand of humor is charming but not gutt busting funny.. I know that he has a tendancy to be preachy, which is why Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy werent fond of him. Because Bill has this philosophy that all entertainment is supposed to cater to children and middle America. But not realizing that life is not that 2 dimensional.

    I used to watch it just to see what outfits they wear. One of the kids would ask to borrow 10 bucks and the parents would say no. The whole time everyone(youngsters included) were wearing designer outfits worth hundreds of dollars. There were some detachments from reality. No one was allowed to drink, they lived in a multimillion dollar home and had 1 average car, and somehow they had 2 light skinned kids.

    • @bicarbonat1
      @bicarbonat1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I still laugh at how people think light-skinned children born to darker-skinned parents is some kind of phenomenon. I mean, the real hurdle to get over should be the fact that none of them bear any physical facial likeness, but that's the world of television. It happens all the time. My aunt was so light as to seem mixed, but her whole family is Nigerian - all of her siblings are medium- to dark-skinned. _She_ later married a very dark-skinned man, and her first child is as light as she was - and was Denise's (Lisa Bonet's) color as a child. Meanwhile, her other two children are medium-toned.
      Genetics is funny like that.

    • @aniella4ever
      @aniella4ever 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My mother is darkskinned ... so is my father.... my brother is lightskinned I am not. My mothers mother was lightskinned... and my father's mother was light skinned. Oh and remember they added sandra after the first season they didnt initially have her on, she was added in the second season.
      Also initally they were suppose to be a poorer family but they changed it as the show progressed.

    • @jens1639
      @jens1639 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      aniella4ever if you live somewhere where there's a lot of heat and sun, people tend to become darker in skin, eyes and hair, because dark skin apparantly protects better against getting too much sun. It would be natural for black people to become lighter, if they moved further north, because instead of getting too much sun, they would get too little. Some theories suggest that europeans are descended from people, who travelled north from Africa, meaning white people originally descended from black people.

    Much respect to Ms. Rashad, very classy lady. I agree that sitcoms are different today. I think in many areas of life and vocation, and many other areas, people want to take shortcuts. I think meditation is great, except, all I need is to meditate on Jesus! I believe meditation on things of God, with His Word as the standard is more than sufficient. ~~Jesus is Lord~~ Amen.

    I loved The Cosby Show and was a big fan of Bill Cosby for decades, until learning who he truly is. People who give him a pass because it’s so sad and hard to accept his evil deeds, are in denial. The Allen sisters are very talented, extremely hard working women. They fought tooth and nail for their much earned success. I don’t know how Debbie feels about Cosby now, but it’s incredibly demeaning and degrading how Phylicia publicly stood by him. What was her message to the black community? And would she have felt differently if the majority of women Bill drugged and raped had been black? I hope she asks herself those questions and more, as she continues her decades long meditations. As of now, she disgusts me nearly as much as Bill does. The abuse cycle in our community needs to STOP.

    • @skmmmonae9323

      FIRST OF ALL. You didn't learn anything. You HEARD ALLEGATIONS that were not proven. Secondly Phylicia is a very close friend to Bill and his family. What makes you think she want gonna still love him through tough times just like the rest of his close friends did? THAT'S HER RIGHT. Thirdly, she never stood by what he was ACCUSED of she was happy he got released from prison because the law was broken to put him in jail and he was never suppsoed to be in jail in the first place. The same law that you voted for was broken and later upheld as it should have been. So according to the law that you voted for Ms. Rashad said nothing wrong. So you can take your fake digust else where because Ms. Rashad will be forever loved.

    American comedy rarely appeals to the intellect. It's nothing compared to British comedy.

      No, not even close. Claire would never have protected her husband after she found out her drugged and raped women. Phylicia, however, would, and did protect Bill, and even blamed others for his disgusting and criminal acts.

      I sure hope not. Claire was a jezebellian feminist who emasculated her husband to the point of where he was a spoof and led the kids to do it as well!
